May WOW Award Winner! This month we celebrate Zacky Keldoulis. Zacky has been nominated by her friend Leeanne Moriarty, who describes Zacky as a selfless person who is always giving of her time and has been supporting many family members who have been having challenging times recently. “Zacky is one of those people who is a doer ... give her a job and she will do it, without complaining, on time, on budget and to a high level. But no one really thanks her, they just rely on her, and assume ‘Oh, Zacky will do it’. I would love for her to have a surprise just for her, to show her she is valued and we are grateful for all she does. Somehow a simple ‘thank you’ just doesn’t cover it for all she does.” We love hearing your stories! We are taking nominations for the WOW of the month for June. Nominating the special woman in your life is simple, email us at admin@thepeppermintgroup.com.au and tell us what makes this woman so special and why she deserves to win. Nominations close on the 3rd Sunday of every month. We’ll contact you for further details if your nomination is successful.

Dear Reader, Welcome to the May issue of Infused. Thank you everyone who nominated a special person for our Woman of Worth Award. This month, we have chosen Zacky Keldoulis to receive a special pamper pack. You can read more about Zacky’s moving story on page 3. Don’t forget to nominate the woman of worth in your life for her chance to win a pamper pack in June. This month we celebrate our mums, who have their day on Sunday 12th May. We’ve got ideas for baking Mother’s Day treats (page 8), we introduce you to our High Tea Party team, who are all working mums themselves (page 6) and we give you our inaugural Mother’s Day gift guide for some fabulous ideas for spoiling your mum (page 12). We also have a handy guide to the most useful things for mothers to keep in their handbags at all times to help them win at life (page 16)! And, if you’re lucky enough to get flowers on Sunday, we give our recommendations for arranging and preserving your beautiful bouquets (page 10). As always, we’d love to hear from you if you’d like to see something in our e-magazine or if you have something you’d like to share, so get in touch at admin@thepeppermintgroup.com.au. Five ideas to bake If you’re thinking of baking something for your beautiful mum, here are five ideas she’s bound to love. You can share a cake after Mother’s Day lunch or bring her some caramel slice she can enjoy throughout the week with her morning tea or coffee. Just remember the essential ingredient: love. 1. Butterfly cakes – for that retro look and a bit of delicious fun, you could try some butterfly cakes. This is a good one because you could bring a few extras for Mum to enjoy later in the week by herself. 2. Coconut and vanilla naked cake – this one is a nice twist on the old “rainbow cake” that kids love, but there’s a more sophisticated colour scheme here when you cut the cake. A great showstopper for a party. 3. Strawberry slices – I like this idea, which is taken from the Victoria sandwich and made bite-size. Perfect for a Mother’s Day afternoon tea. 4. Coffee cake – who doesn’t love a coffee cake after lunch? Make sure Mum gets to save some for Monday! 5. Caramel Slice – Donna Hay to the rescue with her delicious caramel slice recipe available here online. Nobody says “no” to caramel slice.

TOP TIPS FOR GORGEOUS FLOWERS
I’ve always considered flowers lovely in and of themselves, a bunch of pretty colours in any kind of glassware a fool proof way to brighten any room, and I still hold that to be true. But there’s no denying that a few tricks of the trade will keep your flowers fresh for longer and have them looking gorgeous. 1. Always trim the bottom of your stems at a 45-degree angle as soon as you get them, before putting flowers in water. This will ensure they absorb maximum water. Trim every few days to prolong their life. 2. If you’ve got a pouch of flower food, add that to the water. But if not, add a teaspoon of sugar or a little bit of sugary soft-drink. Flowers love it. 3. Some people also add a few drops of bleach to the water, to inhibit bacterial growth. 4. Trim any leaves that might touch the water, to minimise the rotting 5. If you’ve got more than one bunch, consider breaking them up and making an arrangement of one colour. Different flowers in the one hue really makes a statement. Keeping flowers to a colour theme is always elegant. 6. Got lilies? Trim off the pollen onto a tissue and discard to avoid having it drop onto a table cloth or brush onto clothes, where it will stain. It could also drop onto the petals and prematurely age them. 7. Florist’s foam can be a beautiful way to keep your flowers in place. Just soak it for 15 minutes in water before adding your flowers, and remember to keep it wet. 8. Alternatively, make a grid on the top of the vase with sticky-tape and use it to arrange your flowers. 9. Keep your flowers in a cool place, away from vents, direct sunlight or heating or air-conditioning. 10. Experiment with different coloured-glass vases or jars. Splitting your flowers up can look really funky and spreads the love around the room!

ten things to keep in your handbag at all times 5. 1.
Mini sunscreen – Sometimes you find yourself (or your children) outdoors when you thought you’d be inside all day. A small tube or roll-on of sunscreen will ensure nobody needs to get burnt.
2.
Hand sanitizer – maybe you want to pat a cute puppy dog in the street and then go out for lunch. Maybe there isn’t soap in the ladies’. Maybe there’s a cold going around and you want a little extra protection. Maybe your kids are … well … gross, in that kid-way. For a multitude of reasons, carrying a small bottle of this stuff can put your mind at rest.
First aid – band-aids, antiseptic cream, headache tablets. Carrying a couple of Panadols or Nurofens in your purse is a really great idea, especially if you’re prone to headaches. It’s not so practical to carry around a bottle of children’s pain relief and measuring cup, but a bandaid can cure a multitude of ailments and all the little people you help out will think you’re a superperson when you produce one.
6.
Small notebook and pen(s) – Firstly, it’s great for jotting down shopping lists or to-do lists. Secondly, if you are accompanied anywhere by a little person and you want to keep them busy, get them to draw pictures for you. It’s a great way to distract them while you have a coffee with a friend.
3.
Safety pins – useful for quick fixes of hats, clothing, shoes, bags. Just really, really handy.
7.
Small pack of tissues – if you have children, the uses for tissues multiply exponentially.
4.
Hair-ties – if you’ve got long hair or you have children with long hair, this is really a no-brainer. You’d be surprised how often it comes up.
8.
Small bottle of water – I loathe buying water, but with the absence of bubblers these days you need to be prepared for when your child announces that they are dying of thirst.
9.
Phone charger – You never know when you might be called into an emergency situation in which you need to make lots of calls and wait around (therefore need to play games or read books or check social media on your phone). Trips to the hospital are made easier with a portable phone charger.
10.
Earphones – If I’ve got a long walk, a long train ride, or I just don’t want to listen to other people on public transport, I pop the earphones in and tune into a podcast or my music. I don’t go anywhere without them.
Sofi Spritz is an all-Australian wine cocktail inspired by the Italian-style of aperitivo, balanced with sparkling water, citrus & herbal extracts.
