Develin's Has Relocated After 50 years
The Pharmacy Network story began in 1969 when the first Develin’s Chemist was opened in Canberra by Patrick (Pat) Develin, the current owner’s father. Pat was a pharmacist for 56 years and was at the forefront of the campaign to keep pharmacies open and thriving in Canberra.
Coming from four generations of pharmacists, it is no surprise that Matthew Develin and his sister, Anne, followed the family tradition. Pat’s son Matthew now owns and manages the four Pharmacy Network stores in the ACT, in partnership with local ACT Pharmacist of the Year 2021, Christopher Lawler.
For many years, Develin's pharmacies have been a neighbourhood gathering place for bumping into friends and family. Our pharmacies play a vital role in keeping our Canberra City community connected via our patients, customers and many employees working across the four pharmacies in the group.
As we fold Develin’s City Chemist into The Pharmacy Network and move it around the corner on Bunda Street, we are nostalgic about closing the store in Garema Place. There has been a Develin’s City Chemist in that location for over 50 years, and the family has had front-row seats watching Civic evolve into a vibrant city centre. However, a larger store is needed to deliver the range of services now expected from a community pharmacy.
