LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Friends, What a season this has been! And what a high note to end it on as The Philly POPS presents Sixties Hits featuring the electrifying Midtown Men, the original cast members of the Broadway smash hit Jersey Boys! Along with your favorites from the Four Seasons, we’ll be performing charttopping hits from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Motown, and many more. The 2013–2014 season has been sensational beyond our wildest dreams. We have so much to be thankful for — our Music Director Michael Krajewski, and the incredible musicianship of our POPS musicians and chorus. In fact, our recent concert series featuring the music of John Williams set a Kimmel Center attendance record for the POPS! But mostly, we thank you. Because without your support, this successful year could not have happened. On behalf of the musicians, our staff, and our Board of Directors, we are deeply grateful to you. Next season, the energy continues to flow with an extraordinary series of concerts. We will be featuring the music of ABBA, Frank Sinatra, the Bee Gees, Carole King, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, just to name a few. Be sure to buy your subscriptions early so you will get the dates and the seats that you want. In looking ahead, don't forget to save this date on your calendar: September 17, 2014. That’s the date for our 2nd Annual POPS Ball. Imagine dancing to your own Philly POPS Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Michael Krajewski and accompanied by the acclaimed singer/pianist Tony DeSare. It’s Philadelphia’s social event of the season! For the most up-to-date information, please visit our website, phillypops.org, for concert subscriptions and to order your POPS Ball tickets. And now, it’s showtime! Best,

HAPPY TOGETHER: THE MIDTOWN MEN BY STEVE HOLT
Sixty years ago, you could have stood here at Broad and Spruce, pointed in almost any direction, and found a street-corner vocal group. North, South, East, and West; black and white; Philadelphia was alive with the sound of young men harmonizing. That unforgettable vocal tradition lives on today with the incredible Midtown Men, joining conductor Michael Krajewski and The Philly POPS for a foot-stomping, heart-racing romp through the greatest hits of the Sixties. The group's backstory is truly a case of life

Who are the Midtown Men? They come from all across America and bring a staggering mix of skills and experience to the stage.
Michael made his Broadway debut in the musical hit Hairspray. He's appeared all over the world in shows ranging from West Side Story to A Chorus Line — and even played an animated character on Dora the Explorer. As the eighth of nine children, Daniel was probably born knowing how to collaborate! He’s made his mark in everything from the satirical musical Forbidden Broadway to My Fair Lady and Fiddler on The Roof. Christian won Broadway's highest honor, a Tony Award®, for his portrayal of Tommy DeVito in Jersey Boys. His TV roles include Law & Order, Ugly Betty, ER, JAG, as well as the legendary soap opera series All My Children. He also holds the world record for "Most Character Voices in an Audio Book" (Would you believe 241 separate voices? That probably makes reading to his five kids a snap!). In addition to Broadway (Jersey Boys and Next to Normal, for which he won a Tony® nomination), J. Robert is an actor, producer, and director for

independent and environmental films. But his first love is music, and he’s thrilled to be on stage with his fellow Midtown Men. Despite their close association with The Four Seasons, The Midtown Men are most definitely not a one-band tribute act. Their repertoire is a goldmine of '60s hits: “Happy Together” (The Turtles); “Up on The Roof” (The Drifters); “California Dreamin'” (The Mamas and the Papas); “The Time of The Season” (The Zombies); and a nod to that other famous '60s quartet, “Can't Buy Me Love” (The Beatles). Of course, no show would be complete without a huge helping of Four Seasons classics, and The Midtown Men are sure to perform your favorite. Who knows? As you leave the Kimmel Center, you just might break into “Oh, What a Night!”

THE MIDTOWN MEN
"THE MIDTOWN MEN have arrived." — Stevie Van Zandt
The Philly POPS' Sixties Hits reunites four stars from the original cast of Broadway’s mega-hit Jersey Boys. Tony Award-winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and Tony Award-nominee J. Robert Spencer, star in this one-of-a-kind concert experience celebrating the music that defined the Sixties. These talented entertainers shared the Broadway stage for more than 1,000 performances in Jersey Boys. Now, as The Midtown Men, they have thrilled crowds on concert stages and symphony halls across the continent, and have delighted television audiences with performances on Good Morning America, Access Hollywood, Katie, and The Chew. Additionally, the Men collaborated with rock and roll icon Stevie Van Zandt on their first radio single, "All Alone On Christmas," featuring Van Zandt and members of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. The group also had the distinct honor of opening the National Tree Lighting Ceremony at the White House.

IN THE MEDIA: MAESTRO MICHAEL MAKES SPROUT TV DEBUT Maestro Michael Krajewski made two appearances on the 24-hour preschool network, Sprout, on Friday, March 28, 2014, teaching young viewers about the job of an orchestra conductor. As part of Sprout’s Music Week, Krajewski appeared with everyone’s favorite chicken, Chica, and co-host Carly of The Sunny Side Up Show, the only live daily morning show for preschoolers. Michael’s warm sense of humor made him a natural for television. Watch the clips on YouTube by searching for Maestro Michael and Chica or visit bit.ly/1ivTY4N in your browser. Known for his entertaining programs and clever humor, Michael Krajewski took the helm as Music Director and Conductor of The Philly POPS® with the beginning of The POPS’ 35th season in October 2013. Other international appearances include performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and the Ulster Orchestra in concerts in Belfast and Dublin. 12 • ENCORE! • The Philly POPS
His musical collaborations are just as creative and extensive. One of The Philly POPS programs — The Sounds of Simon & Garfunkel, which took place in February — was developed by Krajewski in partnership with touring artists AJ Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle. He will take this concert all over North America. Among the list of internationally respected artists and groups with whom he has collaborated are flutist James Galway, mezzo soprano Marilyn Horne, pianist Alicia de Larrocha, guitarist Angel Romero, and pop artists Roberta Flack, Judy Collins, Art Garfunkel, Kenny Loggins, Ben Folds, Doc Severinsen, Patti Austin, Sandi Patty, Ann Hampton Callaway, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Chieftains, Pink Martini, Rockapella, Cirque de la Symphonie, Classical Mystery Tour, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Michael is excited to share his sense of the unexpected and theatricality with the audiences of Philadelphia. “I think I have good instincts of what will work with Pops orchestras,” he explained recently. “I enjoy finding artists who aren’t playing with symphonies and working with them to develop programs that would be welcomed by the Pops audience. I seek them out and make new collaborations. It’s the creative process that I value most, cultivating new works for Pops audiences — like when I encouraged James Stephenson to compose the ‘Concerto for Cell Phone,’ which we performed in Philadelphia in April 2013.” Michael looks forward to many years in Philadelphia, a city he is appreciating more with each visit. Michael Krajewski lives in Orlando, Florida, with his wife Darcy. When not conducting, he enjoys travel, photography and solving crossword puzzles.

THE ROBERT H. ROSEN MARKETING INITIATIVE: A COMMITMENT OF $50,000 Dear Friends, For over 20 years, my family, friends and I have reveled in the excitement of wonderful concerts and fun times. I love our new Philly POPS! Let’s keep the music coming! Recently, I asked the Philly POPS what we could do together to keep the quality of our orchestra strong and to expand our audience for the future. We decided to create a campaign for the POPS – one that will use existing marketing activities, including a subscription campaign, telemarketing, direct mail, traditional advertising, e-mail communications and social media. I ask you to join me in this exciting venture by helping to raise at least another $100,000 in contributions for this project. Our success will guarantee that future generations of concert goers will continue to enjoy the gift of the Philly POPS.
"Let's keep the music coming!"
Thank you.
Robert H. Rosen
