LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
DEAR FRIENDS, What an exciting time — our first concert of the 2014-2015 season! We are filled with gratitude for your continued support and interest in our NEW Philly POPS. We enjoyed a very eventful summer, starting with our “Christmas in July” parade at The Kimmel Center, when we unveiled our plans for I’ll Be Home for Christmas Spectacular – A Salute to the Military and First Responders, an invitation-only event taking place on December 5th, opening night of our Christmas Spectacular concert series. Thanks to the help of our sponsors, we are giving away 2,000 free tickets to the military through Liberty USO and to members of the Philadelphia Police and Fire Departments as a way to thank them for serving our city and our nation. Of course, we have eight more concert dates of Christmas Spectacular, and we hope you’ll bring your family to share in the celebration of this joyous season. In August, our Philly POPS Brass Ensemble performed in the city parade honoring the Taney Dragons, who showed such determination in this year's Little League World Series. We were proud that Mayor Nutter gave his speech outside the Kimmel Center and even donned a Philly POPS hat for the event! And now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the biggest hits of the '70s in the Era of ABBA. Our featured guest vocalists, Rajaton, are joining us direct from Finland, and we know you'll be dancing in your seats as they sing the songs that made Broadway's Mamma Mia! a worldwide sensation. My best wishes for a wonderful season,
Frank Giordano, President and CEO Encore Series, Inc., The Philly POPS
P.S. There’s still time to Create Your Own Subscription for the 2014–2015 series. Don't miss out on your favorite shows!

CHRISTMAS COMES TWICE IN 2014! Christmas arrived a bit early this year — July 10th, to be exact! To announce I’ll Be Home for Christmas Spectacular – a Salute to the Military and First Responders, we held a holiday parade on the Avenue of the Arts stretching from the Union League to The Kimmel Center. Attendees included the USO (United Service Organizations) and many dignitaries and members of the military, mounted police, and Philadelphia Police and Fire Departments — as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus! For more information on this event, see the Letter From the President on Page 4.

But more than that, it's the memories the band created that have ensured them a lasting place in the musical firmament. Maybe it was a junior high dance ... a first love (or breakup) ... or just the sheer joy of hearing their happy, smoothly blended voices on a transistor radio (or a newfangled Walkman); ABBA was truly the soundtrack for a generation. Eventually, the music stopped. The band's last performance was in December 1982, and despite near constant rumors of a possible reunion,

In addition to their pitch-perfect rendition of the ABBA canon, Rajaton also manages to bridge the gap between classical and popular music, stirring audiences to rapturous applause around the globe. Their most famous original song is called "Butterfly." In a neat twist for a band that covers ABBA, "Butterfly" has been covered by hundreds of choirs all over the world.

THE ROBERT H. ROSEN MARKETING INITIATIVE: A COMMITMENT OF $50,000 Dear Friends, For over 20 years, my family, friends and I have reveled in the excitement of wonderful concerts and fun times. I love our new Philly POPS! Let’s keep the music coming! Recently, I asked the Philly POPS what we could do together to keep the quality of our orchestra strong and to expand our audience for the future. We decided to create a campaign for the POPS – one that will use existing marketing activities, including a subscription campaign, telemarketing, direct mail, traditional advertising, e-mail communications and social media. I ask you to join me in this exciting venture by helping to raise at least another $100,000 in contributions for this project. Our success will guarantee that future generations of concert goers will continue to enjoy the gift of the Philly POPS.
"Let's keep the music coming!"
Thank you.
Robert H. Rosen
