Dancing in the Streets At the Hop aims to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for the most people dancing “The Twist” simultaneously — bringing up to 5,000 people onto Broad Street, and bringing the record back to Philly, where The Twist was invented!

Thanks to these musical legends for coming out to help us break the record! • Dee Dee Sharp • Frank Maffei of Danny & The Juniors • Billy Carlucci of Billy & The Essentials • The Thymes • Jerry Gross of The Dovells

“The Twist eventually topped the Hot 100, thanks to Clark’s constant promotion and — as Checker has noted ever since — the accompanying dance move. He’s described the twist as someone toweling himself off while grinding a cigarette butt with his toes, and that’s about perfect. It was a simple dance that didn’t require touching, or even a partner: perfect for kids looking to cut loose. The dance was so popular, in fact, that after “The Twist” left the charts, twisting stayed on the floor."— Brad Shoup, Billboard
