LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome, American Heroes! On behalf of The Philly POPS and our Board of Trustees, I welcome you to I’ll Be Home for Christmas Spectacular! — A Salute to the Military and First Responders. Tonight marks the premiere of our Christmas Spectacular! concert series, which runs through December 20th. This evening is all about you — the men and women in uniform, the first responders, and all those who serve. Your dedication to our country is an inspiration to us all. We are indebted to the many corporate and individual sponsors who came together to make this celebration possible. With their help, we were most pleased to provide 2,000 complimentary tickets to the military through Liberty USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey, and to police officers and firefighters through the Philadelphia Police and Fire Departments. This event would not have been possible without the additional help of some very special individuals. I would like to thank Sal DeBunda, the chairman of Encore Series, Inc., presenter of The Philly POPS, the Honorable Mayor Michael Nutter, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, former Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers, current Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer, and Joseph Brooks, President of Liberty USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. We are also grateful to Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Thomas Lynch for serving as the event chair, and to board member Sandra Muller of Muller Beverage Company for inviting Miller Brewing Company to become tonight’s title sponsor. So, to our honored guests, tonight is your night. We thank you for the selfless service you provide without hesitation or expectation, day in and day out. You are truly America’s sons and daughters, and we could not be prouder of you. Enjoy the concert! Sincerely,

Frank Giordano, President and CEO Encore Series, Inc., The Philly POPS

Peter Richard Conte was appointed Choirmaster and Organist of St. Clement’s Church in 1991. Since then, he has established an internationallyacclaimed ensemble of 18 professional singers which performs an extensive repertoire of music in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. Each Sunday, and on special feasts of the Church year, the choir offers a full setting of the ordinary of the Mass, including the Credo, several motets, and the Propers for the Mass, sung in Latin to their original Gregorian tones. The St. Clement’s Choir has recorded several compact discs on the DORIAN label, all of which have received international praise.

In addition to his duties at St. Clement’s, Mr. Conte is Grand Court Organist of the world famous Wanamaker Organ in Macy’s in Center City Philadelphia. He performs on the six-manual, 28,500-pipe instrument twice daily, six days per week. The Wanamaker Organ is the largest fully-functioning musical instrument in the world; Mr. Conte was appointed Grand Court Organist in 1989, and is only the fourth person to hold that title since the organ first played in 1911. Mr. Conte is highly regarded as a skillful performer and arranger of organ transcriptions. He has been featured several times on National Public Radio and on ABC television’s Good Morning America and World News Tonight. His monthly radio show, The Wanamaker Organ Hour, airs on the first Sunday of each month and can be accessed online via WRTI.org. He performs extensively throughout the United States and Canada under the management of Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, and was a featured artist at the American Guild of Organists’ National Convention in 2002, and at the International Organ Festival in Aosta, Italy, in September 2004. currently consists of 58 spirit filled, energetic, and anointed musical ambassadors of song. With

evangelism being a very important factor in the choir’s ministry, the St. Thomas Gospel Choir shares their music ministry at over 100 services, programs, concerts, and celebrations every year.

WALT BLOCKER, music director Walt Blocker is the minister of music and director of the gospel choir at the historic Episcopal Church of St. Thomas in Philadelphia. Under his leadership and God’s grace, the St. Thomas Gospel Choir (STGC) has made three CD recordings, which display his and the choir's diverse styles of gospel music. Walt and STGC have traveled as far as Costa Rica, won numerous competitions, and regularly sing and write music with The Philly Pops and for The Washington National Cathedral.

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS

SILVER BELLS

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Dressed in holiday style

Everywhere you go

In the air, there's a feeling

Take a look in the Five and Ten

Of Christmas

Glistening once again

Children laughing, people passing

With candy canes and silver lanes aglow

Meeting smile after smile

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks

And on every street corner, you'll hear It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Toys in every store

Silver bells

But the prettiest sight to see

Silver bells

Is the holly that will be

It's Christmas time in the city

On your own front door

Ring-a-ling Hear them sing Soon it will be Christmas Day

FROSTY THE SNOWMAN Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul With a corncob pipe and a button nose And two eyes made out of coal Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say He was made of snow but the children know How he came to life one day There must have been some magic in That old silk hat they found For when they placed it on his head He began to dance around Oh... Frosty the snowman Was alive as he could be And the children say he could laugh And play just the same as you and me

RUDOLPH THE REDNOSED REINDEER Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer Had a very shiny nose And if you ever saw it You would even say it glows And all of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names They never let poor Rudolph Join in any reindeer games Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say Rudolph, with your nose so bright Won't you guide my sleigh tonight? Then all the reindeer loved him And they shouted out with glee Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer You'll go down in history
