I’m Tricia H. Eaton, of THE Photography. If you are reading this, it means you are either thinking of hiring THE Photography, or already have booked your session. Either way, I’m incredibly excited! This guide has all you need to know about your experience with THE Photography. You’ll learn how to prepare for your session then on to what to expect during your session. There is also information on the fun client reveal night! My goal through this entire process is that you have the full service portrait experience you deserve.
Session Experience What I love about photography is its ability to capture emotion and a story in a single snap. No words necessary. They can preserve time. My goal of our session is that you enjoy our time together, we capture memories that you can treasure for years to come and that I make the entire process stress free for you. How many of you have files on your computer, or perhaps CDs and flash drives of pictures you’ve never printed and never look through? Well, no more files being stashed in a drawer only to be forgotten. About two weeks after your session you’ll have a reveal night where you’ll get to see all your images for the first time. That night, we will work together to create amazing products to showcase your entire session. From wall art to albums, THE Photography has a full range of products to meet all your needs! I know what you are thinking, “I still want digital files”. I understand. I too value digital files. That’s why THE Photography offers several collections that include digital files along with quality products for your family to enjoy. That way you can have quality prints and digital files. Planning Your Session Are you just dreading planning your session? The outfits, location, getting them to smile. I’m a mom of two with a third on the way, so believe me when I say, I know how you feel. When it comes to planning your session, let me help. Everyone wants their portraits to be amazing, including me. Lucky for you, all those are my specialties! Here are a few tips as we start planning your session. And remember, I’m here with you through the entire process so just relax and let things flow. Location, location, location. Have a meaningful spot? Or a favorite place for a quiet walk? When you have a spot that your family loves and can be themselves in it really helps. Even a backyard works. Wherever it is, we’ll make sure to capture your family being your family and having fun! What to wear. I have an entire section dedicated to this later on. Don’t be afraid to shop your closet first. Just keep in mind when little ones are involved, be prepared with a plan B in case of accidents. Concerned that your kid(s) won’t cooperate and smile? I promise I’m on top of this. The best thing you can do to help make this happen is relax and let me handle it. I’m completely used to handling the uncooperative kid and will bring my “A game”. If possible, keep smiling and playing. I’m all about having fun and adapting so we can bring out those special moments in your portraits. My style involves a lot of candids and I always have ideas to relieve the stress.
What to wear
I’m going to be honest, I know that deciding what to wear for your session can be a huge chore. Following these simple tips will help you choose the perfect outfits with ease! And remember, don’t forget to check your closet first! Coordinate, don’t match. Choose your color theme on where you want to hang these portraits and find a color scheme that matches. Be careful, don’t focus on matching everyone. Everyone doesn’t need to be in jeans and a white shirt. Coordinate outfits with complimentary colors. Try not to go beyond two main colors in your portrait. Less is more. Layer without too many patterns. Scarves, blazers, sweaters, even jewelry, all add great texture and visual interest. However, avoid layering patterns. They can become too busy and distracting. A little can be great, too much can be not so great. If the shoe fits, think about it before you wear it. Pay attention to what is on your feet. A pair of sneakers amongst fun boots and shoes will stick out and be a distraction. When it doubt, go with neutral shoes for the family. Say no to logos. A logo on a shirt can also call attention away from where you want it. It is best to leave your attire with large logos, sayings, teams etc at home for your session. Keep your comfort in mind. You want to be you, and not stiff and uncomfortable for your session. Wear something you’re good with standing, moving and even playing in. Oh, and above all, DON’T OVER THINK IT! Is there a theme or feel you are trying to match? Share it with me and I can try to coordinate that with the location and any necessary props. For instance, want a wintery feel for a Christmas card, I can bring a few props and flannel blanket. You bring the hat, vests and scarfs! After your session I know you will be anxious to see your portraits. Two weeks after your session we will have your Reveal Night. We will schedule this at the same time that we schedule your session so you can see your pictures as soon as possible! At your Reveal Night you will see all your pictures from your session for the first time. It is a very exciting and fun time! That night I’ll come to your home and I’ll show you a custom slideshow of your session images. This will be a very casual event, feel free to be in your jammies even. After going through the slideshow you will have some time to go through your images and take a look at all the product samples. This will give you a sense of what products you like most. The collections on the following page have been put together to give you the best quality professional products for the best value. The collections are available for reveal night only. If the products in the collection don’t fit your needs, don’t worry, all products are available a la carte as well. The goal of reveal night is to finalize your order so you can get your prints and products as soon as possible. I suggest you take a look through all the different products and collections before your reveal night. That will help the evening be stress-free and run smoothly. Once you actually seen your images you might change your mind, but it’s a great starting point. When all the fun of your reveal night is over you’ll have a short wait before you’ll have those images in your hands! Digital files will be made available within 48 hours and you can expect to have your prints and products within 2-4 weeks. When all your products are in, I’ll call to schedule a time that is good to bring them to you so they arrive safely!
I couldn’t be happier with my experience. Not only did the pictures turn out wonderful but Tricia was a joy to work with. She was very helpful and professional before, during and after the shoot. She made sure to get my preferences and personal “must-haves” for the shoot before the date. During the shoot she was calm and patient, a must with a newborn!
