A Spectacular Christmas Destination This winter, Yorkshire’s stunning Georgian cloth hall - The Piece Hall in Halifax will be transformed into a spectacular Christmas destination like no other. For seven weeks the courtyard will be home to a stunning Christmas tree and a sparkling Nordic Tipi where you can enjoy food and drinks in the Après-themed surroundings. A Christmas Fair showcasing some of the region’s favourite independent craft stalls, artisan makers and pop-up food and drink traders will feature for a festive shopping weekend, while the surrounding shops, cafes, bars and restaurants will be open throughout the season to pick up that special gift and stop for a bite to eat along the way. 2

The season continues with our magnificent circus-style Spiegeltent, returning for a fantastic 24-day programme of family shows, live music, stand-up comedy and late-night cabaret. An array of creative Christmas workshops give you the chance to get crafty and learn a new skill, while outside street performers, brass bands and choirs bring the place to life with festive cheer. The season will come to a close with a grand finale on New Year’s Eve, when we bring in 2019 with an outdoor Courtyard Party for an evening to remember.

S P I E G E LT E N T

Enjoy a fun-filled day of festive entertainment around Halifax town centre, with carol singers, brass bands, community performances, kids’ activities and seasonal food and drink. Take part in the World Record Attempt for the most people dressed as a snowman and gather at the town centre stage, as we light up the town for Christmas.

Discover the magic and wonder of our Spiegeltent as it once again takes pride of place in our courtyard for our seasonal festival. Adorned with stained glass, glittering mirrors and a luxury velvet-draped ceiling, this magnificent wooden structure from the Netherlands houses a central dancefloor and provides an intimate space to enjoy over 60 performances. The 24-day programme includes something for everyone with family shows, live music, stand-up comedy and late-night cabaret, attracting new internationally-renowned artists and returning favourites to Halifax.

CABARET AN INTRODUCTION TO BURLESQUE WITH TEMPEST ROSE Be introduced to the art of burlesque. This fun session will get you moving like a showgirl, teach you some tricks of the trade, how to be confident in your body, to move in an elegant, sensual way and will finish with a short routine. The class includes an introduction to the history of burlesque and is taught by an industry star.

BADLY DRAWN BOY It was June 2000 when the Mercury Prize-winning, seminal The Hour of the Bewilderbeast, announced the arrival of the badly drawn genius of Damon Gough. It’s been a curious, wonderful, inimitable, unpredictable career so far of major prizes and minor incidents, all possibilities and magic in the air. Since then he’s released four subsequent studio albums and three film soundtracks, including the critically acclaimed soundtrack to the 2002 film About a Boy. Now the Manchester native brings his signature dulcet tones across the Pennines to the Spiegeltent for his Halifax debut.

Whether it’s a glass of fizz to mark the holidays or a sit-down meal for your family get-together, you’ll be spoilt for choice here. There are wonderful independent food shops to browse in too, perfect for those special gifts and edible stocking fillers that add a mouthwatering dash of magic to Christmas.

If you’re quick, you could be one of the first to eat at the newly opened Piece Hall Restaurant this Christmas. This family venue is great for your Christmas gathering or treating the kids. Impressive industrial design contrasts cosy booths and comfy seating, while Scandinavian interior styling conjures up a wonderful wintry feel. A Christmas menu showcases quality produce from local suppliers, with dishes like pork fillet with butternut, gnocchi, capers and carrot top pesto. There’s a cool bar for cheeky afternoon cocktails and also a dedicated bakery with freshly made breads, pastries and Christmassy treats. Spogs and Spice is a good old-fashioned sweet shop packed with all those favourites we saved up our pocket money for. SCULPTURE EXHIBITION

BLANKET BY DAVID MURPHY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH YORKSHIRE SCULPTURE PARK We are delighted to announce a newly commissioned sculpture exhibition for Spring 2019. Artist David Murphy will present Blanket - a large scale sculpture, suggestive of a magnified textile weave, a warp and weft of merged lines made from steel. Centrally located in the courtyard it will present a focal point and meeting place for visitors, with further work from the artist on display in the building. Accompanying the exhibition will be a programme of events and activities for all ages.
