Homeschooling stilll needs regulations Pennsylvania used to maintain some of the strictest homeschooling laws nationwide. But in October 2014, Pennsylvania greatly relaxed its homeschooling regulations. Accompanying this is a nationwide trend of states deregulating standards for home education. Although state educational curriculum mandates, such as common core, as well as an over reliance on standardized tests, can often be burdensome to educators and students, the State must maintain moderate regulations for homeschooling to ensure that each student, regardless of background, obtains a proper education.

Breaking down ‘elite’ QBs

Turn on ESPN, and you’ll hear an NFL analyst say, “You need an elite quarterback to compete in the NFL.” But what does elite mean anyway? We hear the word so much that it loses meaning. Is Joe Flacco elite because he plays well in the postseason but average in the regular season? Is Matthew Stafford elite because he posts great numbers but doesn’t perform in the postseason? You can use whatever facts or figures you want to bend an argument and make the case that nearly any competent NFL quarterback is elite.

WPU backup generator down

Opening the door to Cuba

Men’s basketball: Panthers vs. Eagles

A emergency power outage forced the William Pitt Union to close on Tuesday at 6 p.m., according to WPU management. “The Life safety generator in the William Pitt Union is not working, and we are in the process of getting a rental until we can get a permanent replacement,” said University spokesman John Fedele in an email. The Life safety generator serves as the backup generator for WPU. The backup generator powers the fire alarm system and the emergency lighting, Fedele said, if the main generator were to ever malfunction.

The column lends support to America’s renewed diplomatic and economic ties with Cuba. Barnes argues that the more than 50 year long severed relationship between the two countries has not proven beneficial for either of their citizens. Moreover, he draws on Milton Friedman’s idea that economic freedom is necessary for political freedom. Therefore, easing economic relations and allowing the Cuban people to see economic freedom at work is the first step in inspiring efforts for both economic and political liberty in their country.

After losing its first ACC game of the season to North Carolina State on Saturday, the Pitt men’s basketball team needs to improve to stay competitive in the conference. Last night, the team continued its road trip by traveling up to Boston College with a match against the Eagles. Boston College was 7-5 entering the game and had lost its first ACC game to Duke, 85-62. The last time Pitt lost its first two conference games was the 2012-2013 season.
