Every year, the Rotary Club of Placencia hands out dictionaries to Standard three students. This project is made possible through the financial support of the Parkway West Rotary Club and in memory of Thomas Diffendal.

Earlier this year, Club member Linda Cazin worked with acting principal Mr. Palacio at the St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Primary School in Seine Bight to put together a proposal for 28 Kindles for the students. Working with the local chapter of the Parrothead Club, this joint venture was able to come to fruition. At the beginning of October, the Rotary Club of Placencia and the Parrothead Club of Placencia were able to present the school with

28 Kindles (loaded with 75 educational programs) along with headsets. The children were very excited and are looking forward to using the Kindles to help with their learning.

Our weekly seniors gatherings on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. inside the Placencia Community Centre continue to be a popular event entertaining the elderly with a wide variety of activities including arts and crafts. To help support this event, every Friday night there is an action-packed Bingo at the Flying Pig where players have the opportunity to win BZ$500. October saw popular fishing and tour guide, Ivan Leslie of Placencia Village as the big winner!

Ivan Leslie presented the winning BZ$500 prize at Rotary's Bingo, proceeds of which support the Club's weekly Seniors Program.
