Nov. 24th brought with it the grand re-opening of the hardware section of MnM Hardware & Service Station on the main road in Placencia Village. First opened on Sept. 1, 2003 as a sister store to the original in Independence Village, owners, Dora and Alan Duncker, are keeping up with the needs of a growing Placencia Peninsula over 15 years later.
Balloons and fanfare marked the opening, as Peninsula residents were treated to a table of snacks, packaged homemade cookies and beautifully displayed merchandise laid out by talented locally-based design consultant, Penne Sommers. The major difference shoppers will note is that what was formerly an over-thecounter shopping experience is now convenient self-serve. Renovations had been taking place for a year and a half and now, villagers can finally walk the aisles to find inspiration among the store’s impressive selection of merchandise.
Beautiful signage, printed in country by McNab Design of Belize City, makes finding what you’re looking for easy, and an engaged and knowledgeable staff will be there if more assistance is needed. Most of the staff has been with MnM's for over a decade, and they’ve been training with independent leadership coach, Mandy Marshall of Mandy Marshall Coaching in Maya Beach, twice a week to take their customer engagement to the next level in preparation for this re-opening.
From finding the perfect color of Sissons paint mixed to the right biodegradable disposables, browse the aisles of the revamped hardware store and for motor needs, visit the service station that also recently underwent major improvements.▪
Home hardware is still the Duncker’s core business, but they saw a need for good quality building and home improvement products that people have been needing to procure in Belize City. Eager to meet Placencia’s needs, MnM will still carry all the nuts and bolts they always have, but now shoppers will benefit from an upgraded caliber and an expanded portfolio of accessories including home decor, kitchen appliances and a hotel and restaurant line of goods.
