Maifirstapproachedusaboutherprojectin2004:She plannedtosupportartisansfromnorthernVietnamsothat theycouldmarketandexporttheirproductsthemselvesin ordertoachieveeconomicindependence.Thegoalof preservingandpromotingtraditionalcraftsarebothequally important.Thus,shefoundedacompanythatensuresthat thecraftbusinessesproduceaccordingtoEuropean standardsintermsofsocialbenefits,safetyandquality.
ThankstoherGermanandforeigntradestudiesandher socialcommitmentinamajoraidprojectinVietnam,shehas allthenecessaryskillstosuccessfullyimplementthistask.
WithoutMai'sdedicatedworkonthegroundinNorth Vietnam,wewouldnotbeabletoproducethesebeautiful collectionsinsuchasustainable,fairandexcellentquality andofferthemtoourcustomersworldwide.
Makingof
albertL.(punkt)Bamboobowlsaremadebyhand intheirtraditionalway.First,thetrunksarecut andquartered.Then,beforethebamboocanbe processed,ithastobestoredinwaterforseveral months.
Afterdrying,thebamboopiecesaresplitinto squaredlumberandthencutintostrips.Each stripiscuttosizeandpressed.Thisallowsthe craftsmentobendthepressedstripsintorings, whicharethenputtogethertoformdiscs.These arethenbeatenintoabowlshapeusingastone template.
Theresultingrawproductisfilledwithriceflour inseveralpasses,primedwithacryliclacquerand carefullysanded.Thisprocedureisrepeatedat least12times.Finally,thetopcoat(matteorgloss) isappliedinseveralcoats.Intheend,eachpieceis unique.
