On Tuesday January 21, 1958, Leighton and Mary Evelyn Calloway welcomed a baby boy who would be named Charles Michael. He became the seventh son and the 10th child completing the Callaway family. His mother called him Charles. Other family members and friends called him Michael or Mike. No matter how you addressed him, you were always greeted with the truth, a witty remark, an explanation, or justification regarding his Raiders, or that bright smile accompanied with a laid-back laugh. While growing up in Mount Hope, West Virginia, Michael participated in sports, was a member of first Union Missionary Baptist Church, and graduated a proud Mustang-class of 1976. Michael could also be seen riding his yellow 10 speed with Lobo (the family dog), hanging out with friends in town, running errands for neighbors, and on a few occasions “hopping” a coal train. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed both stateside and abroad. Charles Michael Calloway served the United States Army for 10 years and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1986. He earned three Certificate of Achievement Awards, two Good Conduct Medals, two Army Service Ribbons, two Noncommissioned Officer Ribbons, a Mechanic’s Badge, one Mechanic’s Driver Track Badge, a Weapons Badge, and one Overseas Service Ribbon. He was stationed in Germany and Hawaii. After an honorable discharge he decided to make Lawton, OK his new home. While employed at Fort Sill Defat, Mike provided in homecare for his dear friend Curtis Tillotson; who preceded him in death. He was employed at Goodyear tire company, He was still employed by Hanza’s Soldier Express, LLC and he was a contractor for Fort Sill Chenega Facilities Management administering test and issuing driver’s licenses upon his death. In 1992, Charles Michael Calloway met the love of his life, Veronica Warner of Lawton, Oklahoma. They showered each other with love and married on February 14, 2006. Charles and Veronica would do anything for one another and kids. He loved all the kids and accepted everyone of them until the end. Mike was well known for providing great barbeque while educating the youth on old school music and life. On January 15, he was surrounded by his wife, friends, and family in the comfort of his home as he transitioned in the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ. To this Union there were four children who he called his own: Cari J. Warner of Duncan, OK, Cal J. Warner, Camillia J and Andre Smith of Peyton, CO, and Samario Warner of Colorado Springs, CO. There are eight grandchildren: Giovanni, Samantha, Jasmine Mejia, Maya Warner, Cari Warner Jr., Brehane Smith, Kelile Smith, and Landyn Warner and one great-grandchild Evelyn Mejia. One grandchild, Samantha Mejia preceded him in death. Michael was preceded in death by his loving parents Leighton and Mary Evelyn Calloway, brother Leighton (Petey), sister-in-law Mary, brother John, William (Bill), sister-in-law Jean, brother Norman, sister-in-law Cil, brother Duane, Sister Nancy McNeil and sister-in-law Portia. Son Cal J. Warner and granddaughter Samantha Mejia. Left to cherish brother Leroy Calloway (MD) sisters Judy Gamble (VA) Mary (Warren) Armstead (OH) sister-in-law Hazel Calloway (OH), a host of children, grandchildren, son-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
