Deacon Eddie Donald Woody was born in Stroud, Oklahoma on September 19, 1934. He was the only son of Helen Woody Asher. As a young boy, Eddie was showered with the love and attention of his family, which included his beloved grandparents, Alex and Mattie Woody, as well Uncles and Aunts. Eddie graduated from Stroud Independent High School, where he was a great basketball player. He attended Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma with an emphasis in Agriculture. However, as his mother's charge of caring for his grandparents became challenging, Eddie opted for an early exit from Langston to assist her in the task. Eddie possessed a powerful work ethic from an early age, which was never more evident than when he secured employment at Oklahoma City's Skirvin Hotel during the height of racial tensions in Oklahoma. Eddie forged his way as a successful and hard-working man, despite the stresses of the environment. Those who knew Eddie knew that he absolutely loved fishing. As an avid fisherman, he obtained and enjoyed a life membership in the American Fisherman’s Club, and was always proud to wear his American Fisherman’s Life Membership leather jacket. He was also an avid gardener who loved to till and fertilize the ground, care for his lawn, and grow flowers, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, and grapes. In 1966, Eddie moved from Oklahoma to Denver, Colorado. After establishing himself there, he eventually met and married Joyce Elaine Carey Woody in September of 1977. Together, the Woodys traveled extensively throughout the country, by motor home and car, often accompanied by family and friends. While in Denver, Eddie would attend church services around the corner from his home. One day, after hearing the gospel message, he decided to make his way to the altar to rededicate his life to Jesus Christ. Joyce followed him there, and

together they began a new spiritual journey. Eddie, was a faithful member of the Wayside Community Temple, Church of God in Christ, and served under the leadership of the late Supt. Charles Scurles. He was eventually elevated to Head Deacon, and was highly instrumental in the church's acquisition of and movement from its former location in Denver to its current location in Aurora, CO. Another of Eddie's loves was barbecuing. He was known throughout Denver as a barbecue "connoisseur," and would often use his unique gift to bless many in the church and community, as well as family and friends. Eddie and Joyce were inseparable. They lived as pillars of their community and worshipped the Lord together until she became ill and could no longer care for herself. Eddie lovingly cared for Joyce until she was called to Glory in November, 2012. In 2018, after becoming physically incapacitated and in need of care, the difficult decision was made to relocate Eddie to Connecticut to live with his eldest daughter, Delois, and son-in-law, Bishop James B. Walker. The beginning of 2022, he returned to his home state of Oklahoma where he would be able to receive additional care from family and friends. On July 3, 2022, at the age of 87, Deacon Eddie Woody answered the eternal call to Glory, and went home to be with the Lord. Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Mrs. Helen Asher, his faithful and loving wife, Joyce Elaine Woody, and his wonderful sister, Mrs. Florence Rose. He leaves to mourn, one son, Steven Ray Norwood; three daughters: Delois Woody Walker (James), Annette Barnes (Joseph), and Eddress Lynette Woody; four stepchildren: Elvin Johnson, Suzette Harris, Marc Wesley, and Davita Wesley Vaughn; lots of Grandchildren; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
