On October 13, 1932, Her Majesty, Jane Mitchell entered this world to James and Agnes Boozer in Marianna, Arkansas. She was the youngest of her siblings preceded in death by both parents and siblings. Jane moved to Chicago, IL in 1940 with her aunt Ola Thomas affectionately known as Madea, she attended Chicago Public Schools and later graduated from Dunbar High School. In 1946 Jane was baptized at Liberty Baptist Church Chicago by Reverend D. Z. Jackson. On June 3rd, 1959, Jane Married her sweetheart Norman Mitchell Sr. (Deceased) Out of that union seven beautiful children were born. In 1970 Norman and Jane moved their family to Harvey, IL, and Joined St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leroy Taylor where she Served faithfully on the Usher board later joining the Missionary Board and because of her delicious recipes was often asked to volunteer in the kitchen. She maintained her membership at what is known today as St. Mark Cathedral under the Leadership of the late Bishop Willie L. Jordan. In 2012 Jane, joined Nehemiah Christian Center Ministries under Bishop Ronnie L. Lee where she attended faithfully until her recent health challenges. In 1995, She retired as Head Chef from the Jewish United Federation located in Downtown Chicago where she is highly remembered for infusing soul and kosher cuisines that are still favorites today. Since retirement she served as the polling judge for the Village of Burnham, IL. Jane was known to many as “Granny”! She possessed such an amazing personality that loved and cared for everyone she encountered. No one was ever a stranger. Jane and her husband often opened their doors to other family members and close friends in need. She always made sure the hungry were fed (As long as you left the chicken breast alone) and provided shelter for those in need. Our Matriarch was always ready for a good family function. A party, a cookout with good, delicious food or just a house full of family, friends, and Drinks! Granny would always be the life of the party. She will be remembered for her loving spirit. On Saturday, January 15, 2022, Our Matriarch left this earthly place and now rest in her new home in Glory. She leaves to Cherish her memory, seven Children; Danarvis Mitchell, Ronald Mitchell, Donald Mitchell (Bernadette), Norman Mitchell Jr., Michael Mitchell, Lorita Bass (Victor), Latara Watson (Berlin), fifteen Grandchildren; VaShawn, Tyrice, Tionna, Kynneisha, Ronald Jr., Latasha, Donald Jr., Monique, Deanna, Deante, Darius, Michelle, Deaira, Kristopher II, Michael Jr.; One Grandson Darnel who precedes her in death, ; eighteen greatgrandchildren; Nephew Marc Boozer and family, a host of nieces, nephews; a community of friends and extended family.

Mama I love you and I hope I told you enough but if I didn’t mama I love you so much, forever, and always. Mama thank you. Thank you for your unconditional love, your selflessness, your prayer, never turning your back, and for always being the light. I will forever cherish the bond we shared. I thank God for letting me borrow you for 57 years of my life. Missing you is an understatement; I think of you every day. This is not goodbye. I’ll see you later Mama but until then the memories we created together will help me through. The fact that you’re no longer here will forever cause me pain, but I will continue to hold you in my heart.
