Mother Pearl B. Lucas was born on February 21, 1924 in Winona, Texas. She was the oldest of two children from the union of Mr. Robert and Mrs. Roxie Terrell. Reared in the Methodist tradition she would begin her scholastic journey at one of two schools for blacks in Winona. In 1935, following the passing of her mother, Pearl would move to Elk City, OK. There she would live with her Uncle Nathan and Aunt Fannie Copenhaver. She would continue her studies at the Douglas High School in Oklahoma City where she would graduate and pursue cosmetology. Having returned to Elk City to live with her aunt and uncle she would begin to attend their Church which was Pentecostal. Before too long she would get saved and baptized with the Holy Ghost. Pearl would go on to meet and marry Mr. Tommie Williams in 1946. To this union they became the proud parents of four daughters; namely, Janice, Dorothy, Linda, and Gerald. During this time the family would be pastored by her uncle in the Church of God in Christ. She would embrace many opportunities to serve her local church as well as her district. She would serve as the Sunday school secretary, the local YPWW president, the district YPWW president, a teacher of Sunday school and the president of the local Bible band. Further, she would visit nursing homes on certain days and participate in worship services. Pearl would also have a dedicated prison ministry where she would write letters to the incarcerated and off er words of encouragement. She would later go on to marry Johnathan Lucas, Sr. and to this union would come two daughters; Sandra and Goldie. She would also take great pride in rearing her grandson Maurice Tranail Lucas. Not only did Pearl serve her Church, but many opportunities would present themselves for her to also serve her community. She would serve on the Community Affairs Organization. Further, she would
become part of the hospitality department at the community hospital. Pearl would be appointed by Elk City Mayor Tom Johnson to serve with H.U.D. which was a pack committee. She would go on to be instrumental in getting the first intergraded daycare in Elk City. Moreover, she would work on a committee to renovate and build new homes in the black community. In the years to follow she would work for several area doctors and an insurance agent as well. One of those doctors; namely Dr. Leebron, became a close and valued friend. She would become a caretaker for his three children; Mike, Andy, and Jack. Pearl would serve her Church faithfully until her health required her to move from Elk City back to Oklahoma City to live with her daughter. She would join the God's Powerhouse Ministries Church of God in Christ under the Pastorate of Elder Joseph Marzett. Pastor Marzett would honor and distinguish her as the official 'Church Mother'. Mother Lucas is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Roxie Terrell; her sister, her brother Samuel Jackson; three daughters Sandra Lucas, Goldie Oneil, and Dorothy Williams. My Grandmother Mrs. Pearlie B. Lucas In our family, she was often the smallest person of the bunch, yet the largest person In the room. No matter the c !!! She had a superior strength and knowledge that was easily recognizable and most often appreciated. Her clarity on life, Her sure presence, supreme confidence, and complete approach on life could only come from I !!!!!!! Without fear, she boldly locked in on her goal to live for God and to allow the Lord to chart her path. She prepared well and became well prepared. With her bags packed, the only thing left was to be called home to God. Going home became her life's plan, so today I'm confident she can finally unpack her bags. Granny completed her journey and has made it home So, on this momentous day, let's express joy in celebrating a job well done. Granny ... you will be missed, but not soon forgotten. With Love, Your grandson,
LaRon
