WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 4 AUGUST 2011
Psalm 27:4 [ERB] "I ask only one thing from the Lord, this is what I want most: "Let me live in the Lord's house all my life, enjoying the Lord's beauty and spending time in His palace.' We live in a time of hustle and bustle when everything needs to be done in a hurry and, except perhaps during a holiday, few take the time to sit quietly with a book or enjoy a beautiful sunset or the early morning singing of the songbirds. There are even fewer who set aside some time to spend in the presence of their Creator. King David, however, was someone who discovered early in his life the wonderful blessings of spending time in the presence of the Lord, first as a young shepherd boy looking after his father's sheep and later as the king of Israel. Do you realise what you miss if you neglect this wonderful privilege of being able to spend time with your Father in Heaven. We can come to Him whenever we want to and wherever we are and He is always there and ready to talk to us. In God's presence we get to know Him, as He really is - a God of unconditional love, of patience, of peace, of goodness and faithfulness, Someone who will never fail us. Spending time with Him by studying His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to impart wisdom and knowledge helps us to strengthen our faith and to face each new day, in spite of what might confront us. Most of us will readily agree that we can do with some extra strength and support in our lives - the only place where this can be found is in the presence of the "life-giver", the living God. David, in verse 14 of the same Psalm says: "Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage and He shall strengthen thine heart, wait, I say, on the Lord." [KJV] And Isaiah confirms this wonderful promise when he writes: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint." [KJV] Are you tired and caught up in the rat race of life - then take some time each morning and, like Mary come and sit at the feet of Jesus and be strengthened in your spirit, soul and body. In the story of Martha and Mary we are told how the former was so busy serving [the Lord!] that she had no time to actually sit with Him, but how Mary, chose

Listen to what Jesus said about this: "Martha, Martha, you are getting worried and upset about too many things. Only one thing is important, Mary has made the right choice and it will never be taken away from her." [Luke 10:41-42] Question: Are you a Martha or a Mary? Henk. COTTAGE TO let in Wittedrift. Letter via the Editor Open Prayer For Bitou Council
We hold up in prayer before you the mayor, Memory Booysen and the men and Women of the Bitou Council who are in positions of authority in Plettenberg bay. We pray that only the upright shall be in this council Father and that all the wicked and corrupt shall be exposed and cut off and the treacherous rooted out. We stand in the gap for this council and repent of all sins, injustice, corruption and ask for forgiveness in the merciful and mighty name of Jesus. We ask for skillful and godly wisdom and discretion to enter the heart of the mayor, a spirit of discernment to be upon him. Father you said in Gen 11:6 “Behold they are of one people and they have all one language and this is only the beginning of what they will do and now nothing they have imagined they can do will be impossible to them” We pray in the mighty name of Jesus that all Bitou councilors be in perfect harmony and full agreement in what they say, that there be no dissension or factions or division among them, but that they be perfectly united in their common understanding and in their opinions and judgments. Holy Spirit, teach them how to think and conduct themselves in a spirit of humility in serving the community, patience and tolerance of opposing opinions and above all respect for one another speaking with a view to peace and harmony and benefit for the community. May they commit in the name of Jesus to be united in spirit, courteous, disciplined with self control and above all humble, never returning evil for evil or insult for insult, dying to pride, vanity and selfish ambition, striving
only for your will to be done in Plettenberg Bay as it is in heaven. We ask this in the mighty, merciful and precious name of Jesus and declare that Jesus is Lord over Plettenberg Bay. 1 Tim 2:1-3 ; Prov 2:10-11, 21-22 1 Cor 1:10 ; Ep 2 4: 2-3 ; 1 Pet 3: 8-9 ; Math 6: 10 Concerned Christian Ratepayer LOOKING FOR responsible couple/ person to housesit home & pets in Harkerville 10-22 Aug 0445327594 1974 MGB GT sports car bargain R35K 0445335357 PHOTOGRAPHY - All occasions Still and Video. WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 4 AUGUST 2011
Life in Plett
HOUSES FOR SALE AND PARROTS Our next door neighbours, who were renting, sadly, moved out a couple of weeks ago. The owner came to town and tried to rent it 'as is' but not a single person showed any interest as the house needed the general maintenance it had lacked for four years. He tried painting the inside first - a lovely cream colour my favourite calico, and mowed the lawn. Still no luck, so he re-painted inside white - my worst colour. Then the next thing, serious bakkies started to arrive, plumbers, electricians, tilers, plasterers, more painters, guttering people etc. Fierce work went on for a week and then the newly beige with white trim went on the market FOR SALE. By the way beige is my third worst colour for a house so suburban . I thought we would have a stream of people pouring in to see the "New on the market" house, but no - just a trickle and I mean drought days trickle. Unfortunately on the day that an agent car plus luxury Jhb car appeared, was also my day with the gardener. He first unpacked the garage onto the driveway for cleaning the garage. In between there was my car. I had made him clean my car until it shone and explained the reason why to him. I wanted to spray some black duco on the very chipped front underside of my car. The tin says the item must be very clean. When he called me down to do the job I was still in my pyjames and had curlers in my hair. I thought nothing of that, as the whole estate already knows my sleeping kit, as that is how I feed the guineas and peacocks every morning. Anyway there I was with Bongani, me bent over double, bum in the air and Bongani holding a piece of cardboard in places where I might miss the chips and repaint my car. It was a very noisy business with dogs barking, actually yapping flat out as they saw mom doing funny things. I also had Bong yelling higher, lower, more to the side etc. So you can imagine the family from out of town, Mom, Dad and the two little kids looking upon this

scene. They did not stay long and now the house is once more "TO LET". You know people can be odd about their neighbours to be. I rang my daughter in Jhb last night. She had an African Grey parrot that she got when he was 10 weeks old. So cute, she had to feed him mushy stuff every night - as she is a teacher and is away all day. So together with her twin boys they would feed this parrot full every night and then play with him until they all collapsed exhausted. He did everything parrots do, he chewed everything possible in her house but he never learnt to speak, not a peep. He was a very sweet bird but did not like anyone but my daughter and the twins. He even came to Plett on hols in December but talk about the hand that feeds you.. . . Anyway he had a very sad demise when my ex husband’s Yorkshire terrier got hold of him. Many tears by everyone even me. She eventually got another African Grey called Timothy and he was 8 weeks when she got him. I never knew that same species birds could have such different personalities. He is six months old now and besides eating all the wires in her house, kettle, stove, heater, TV, and all the kids shoes left out of the cupboard, he also has learnt to make noises (bird speak) . He wolf whistles at her whenever he sees her - not the boys, just her. For the last three days because he has been outside with the warm weather, he now speaks fluent Hah dee Dah. Bear says last night he screeched Hah dee Dah noises all night. She was bathing the twins and she has a sliding door bathroom door. Last night it was just an inch open and she and the boys watched in fascination as Timothy tried to push the door open. He had just one
eye and a beak visible to them. All the while trying to coax Bear out with his wolf whistles and when that did not work he screeched Hah dee Dah. He even talks under his duvet cover at night and this morning he was still Hah dee Dahing flat out as they drove off to school. Thats all for now darlings, love CHATTERBOX FIND IT SA is looking for both full time as well as part time agents in Plett, Knysna and Sedgefield. Every day a Mandela Day
The Plettaid Foundation, want to thank those gorgeous, smiling and humble men (who did not want any publicity) so very much for being there at Plett's own Hospice, with paintbrushes, paint and polyfilla, making the outside of Trinity House totally healthy! The Plettaid Foundation also have a shelter for abused Women and their children on the edge of Kwanokathula and who should we find there but four beautiful women who usually are responsible for keeping our roadsides clear, but there they were, joyfully cleaning the inside of the Shelter. Thank you, thank you, we were just blown away and comforted by the value you place in the support you can give to others in the caring field. The Plettaid Foundation wonder whether we couldn't make every day a Mandela day.!!!! We are longing for those who support our Hospice shop in the Melville Centre by donating clothes, and household goods to know that we couldn't have our shop without you. We also have a huge need. A wish List in fact. Volunteers, volunteers, volunteers! An afternoon, a morning, a full day which is 9 to 5 or an hour or two ,to help us run the shop. In return we will support and love you and make you realise how valuable you are to our organisation .We will fully induct you into the Plettaid Foundation's function, pallliatively caring for the sick in our community. Please call for a chat and to find out more.... 044 533 5190 or 044 533 5616. Dee Pelham-Reid.

Is Heaven Real?
Prof. Stephen Hawking, a world renowned scientist and cosmologist, has recently proclaimed that heaven doesn't exist, or as he put it : heaven is a fairy tale for people afraid of the dark. He believes that the brain is like a computer which will stop working if its components fail. He ended by saying that there is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers. I, on the other hand, disagree. I believe there is a heaven. I believe our souls, not our brains, go to heaven if we die. I have no scientific theory to prove my beliefs, only faith. Snippets for the Week
What a very busy week! On Saturday afternoon I was asked to help a dog in Kranshoek, which had been slashed with a very sharp object, accross her face. Thank you to Dr van Reenen for stitching her up and also a huge thank you to PAWS, for paying partly towards the treatment. The owner took a day off work, went into the Police Station to report the injury and wanted to open a case of Animal Cruelty, against the offender. He was told that the dog needs to make the case herself! This is unacceptable and I will now open the case and make sure this person receives the punishment he deserves! I was asked to remove a dog from Kwanokuthula which was extremely constipated. The owner had no funds to pay towards his treatment and the family said their goodbyes. When I arrived at the vet, I couldn't help but notice in what a beautiful condition he was in and also couldn't help but notice how he wagged his tail. Thank you to Paws for saving this animal’s life. He is now back home. You cannot imagine the joy on the owners’ faces when I returned him. On Thursday afternoon I received an anonymous call and was told to listen to a dogfight in New Horizons. Thank you to the Police for their immediate response. We were able to put a stop to a fight between a vicious Staffi and a Retriever type. The Retriever was treated for a broken toe, puncture wounds to the foot, a sliced open paw, a bad cut through the eye, as well as another deep gash on the body. They had already fought two Pitbulls. One, I was told, had a severed leg and the other a ripped face (which I have now been informed, are lying dead in the bush). We found a "kierrie" on the scene which was covered in blood. This was used

By now, everybody must have heard that “The Beacon Island Life Style Resort ” will be closing from the 16th July to 1st October 2011 for renovations. GOOD NEWS for the locals... Jiwu Salon and Spa will be operating as normal. We’ll have access through the bottom door. SPECIAL The Brazilian Blow Out” from 27th June till 1st Sept, less 25% ( depending on thickness and length of hair).
SPECIAL JIWU SPA is offering a once off special, book a basic Dermalogica Facial for R390 and bring a friend and get the second Facial for FREE!!! ( we are open from 8am till 6pm every day). to seperate the dogs. There were also several dogs tied to trees. How very frightened a little brown "brakkie" was when he was released. He just didn't know in which direction to run. I cannot imagine what his fate would have been, had we not intervened. So sad to say that most of the children taken in for questioning were between the ages of 15 and 16 years old. What a fine example the adults are setting for the youth! Please report dogfighting in your area. This is the only way to put a stop to gross animal abuse and cruelty. The dogs really suffer at the hands of their owners and this practice is totally unacceptable. I appeal once again to please have your Pitbulls sterilized. Letter via the Editor letter in response
to Laurent’s letter in the previous issue: I was shocked when I read your letter in last weeks edition suggesting a ban on boat based whale watching. Your letter was obviously sparked by the recent uprising of the Jet Ski race which I chose not to involve myself with. At the end of the day, it was handled professionally and as you mentioned, not an ideal time of the year but hey, all went well. Didn’t notice any complaints after the competition… I personally have no problem with Jet Ski’s as long as they are operated properly and the riders are aware of what is happening in the water. I watch jet skis and private boats way closer to whales than the legal 300m distance which is required by law. Yet we as legal operators have to pay huge permit fees and adhere to so many requirements for the privilege. The problem is lack of education and policing as well as disrespect by the owners of these crafts. Instead of bitching amongst one another, maybe we should stand together and police the waters, with a proper channel of communication to the right people. The fact that you spend so much energy focusing on the whale watching only confuses me. What sparked this?? Your sudden concern for the whales after all these years or the busses that don’t have the time to go on a shopping spree?? The BBWW is the only sector of water activities with such strict conditions that don’t only focus on the way we approach and handle the whales but also on how we run our companies and our adherence to every statutory requirement including extremely high passenger and public liabilities. There are other commercial water activities running in our bay none of which get a mention?? By the way for those reading who do not know, the colour of the boats mentioned in Laurent’s letter differentiates the two whale watching companies licensed to do close encounters. Ocean Safaris owns the blue boats and only have two boats. A 12 seater and a 30 seater (the larger one being built at a great expense to minimise the number of boats being used, thereby minimizing the impact on our marine life and the environment). Depending on the number of clients, we use either or to conduct our cruises. The law states that only one boat from each company can watch whales with the close encounter permit. If you see two of the same colour boats on the water and close to whales at the same time, then there is a problem. Regarding your comments about your
previous employees, company policies and the way skippers are required to conduct their trips is in-house and since you have never been employed by Ocean Safaris, you would have no idea what our in-house policies are but I can tell you that we value the permit we have and we feel that adherence to the rules is very important. Our livelihood as well as the staff’s depend on it. Your comments regarding the decrease in whales are also off base. Some research is necessary here on your part before claiming that there are fewer whales due to the impact of whale watching. Aerial studies have proved differently over the years and not to mention that there is a general westward movement of the Southern Right Whales which is not a result of our boats but for other reasons which are still being researched. It is expected that we will be seeing more Humpback Whales in the future and less Southern Rights as the westward movement continues. Hawaii has many boats watching whales over the season and research over there shows an increase in the number of whales??? I also don’t know what your issue is with busses coming in to do whale watching, the mention that no one in this town benefits by this is utter nonsense. We employ staff throughout the year (using our income from whale season and loans); they spend their money in this town. We pay our bills and rates and procure locally whenever possible and at the end of the day, we still have debt…. (This is a business that we barely survive on and not thrive on; we work hard and are a local business just like everyone else). These busses also fill their tanks at
the local petrol stations; many eat at restaurants on the beach and do other activities in the greater Plettenberg Bay area. This is income into the town no matter which way you look at it. These people are on a strict itinerary so cannot spend hours on a shopping spree but at least they have had a chance to see what a lovely place we live in and might spread the word for others to visit or return themselves. We often have guests that say they are in Plettenberg Bay particularly to see the Whales, staying here, eating here etc, without the BBWW, the guesthouse and restaurant would not have benefited from these clients, not to mention the local retail stores. I get internet queries about when the best time is to come to Plettenberg Bay to see the whales, I often have to recommend places to stay and other activities to do… We have spent a lot of time and money in marketing our product. In order to do this we have had to sell Plettenberg Bay as a town to visit. How much is everyone else doing to bring people here? Take Hermanus for example, their little town thrives on the Whales and it is known around the world as the best whale watching destination in SA. This is because everyone sells the destination as a Whale watching destination and they all benefit by doing this. Plettenberg Bay actually has the best whale watching, not to mention the fact that our bay has an abundance of marine life throughout the year.. Why not make this town work by working together?? Have some type of public participation or something so we can make some decisions. If anyone would like information on the Whale Watching regulations, you can contact me by email: info@oceansafaris.co.za or 082 926 6664. Thank you Pamela Bates : Ocean Safaris

Stop Being Abused talk
given by Mignonne Weiner was dedicated to all in her life that had helped her to learn self love. Abuse is a form of communication that causes displeasure, insecurity, fear, feelings of not been cared for or violates the belief of a person. Abusive living is not taking responsibility for one’s life and how one treats others. It’s the inability to give freely of ones self, accept ones self and allow others to do the same without control or manipulation. Abuse is holding back the truth, being dishonest & not forthcoming when required to be. It’s the inability to be caring of the feelings and opinions of others equal to ones own. Abuse is demonstrated by the way we live our life and how we handle our thoughts, words, deeds and what one values and what one believes in. It’s the power of negativity and self worth. Lunchbox Theatre update.
A busy July saw all at Lunchbox Theatre celebrate our 3rd birthday, host our AGM and head on tour to the Langkloof. Our AGM was held at Surf Café on the 21st and an enthusiastic group of Lunchbox supporters caught up on all our amazing achievements over the last year. Delicious snacks were provided by the venue followed by a couple of ‘death by chocolate’ cakes. A great event to celebrate and reflect. We are very proud to announce our new board members: Charmaine Wild, Su Lubner, Leigh Dunn, Stuart Palmer, Mncedisi Ncedani, Kim Weyer and Cindy Lee Cloete. We look forward to taking Lunchbox Theatre to new heights with this inspiring team. Welcome! In the last week of July a team of 5 headed over the mountains to the beautiful Langkloof for a tour of our brand new show “Die Groot Eden to Addo Avontuur”. We are very proud to have teamed up with the Eden to Addo Corridor Initiative to create this educational theatre show that explores ways in which people, plants and animals can work together. We performed to 6 schools and over 1300 learners in 3 days and received some very affirming feedback: “They learnt a lot without even realising it. Bitou Horse Rescue Welfare
On Saturday, 23 July a group of friends and I rattled tins at the Saturday market for the Bitou Horse Rescue Welfare. The Welfare is an amazing organization that helps horses that have been hurt or abused. Asking for donations was an interesting experience. Some people were friendly and told jokes and others just pretended that they didn’t see you and walked past. It was wonderful to see how generous some people were. Your donations are going to a very good cause. I want to thank everyone who donated so generously. Thanks to Jenny Pope and Lisa Incendiario for organizing the bibs and tins and for allowing us the privilege of helping. Thank you for all your hard work. Letter from the Mayor 1 August 2011 In July I had the privilege of meeting with many of you during my five report-back meetings, but at the rate things are happening, we decided we need even more communication. Therefore we intend to write a regular newsletter to keep you informed of what is transpiring in the council and administration of Plett. As many of you know, due to continuous disruptions caused by the bad behavior of certain councillors during the council meeting commenced on 29 June and continued on 1 July and again on 5 July, it became necessary to obtain a high court order to force the councillors to abide by the rules and order by-law of the municipality. A court order is very expensive – we estimate over R300 000 – but I want to assure you that this cost will not be borne by our ratepayers and will be recovered from those who broke the law, opposed the application and caused the expense. Municipal Manager. One of the fallouts of the ANCs desire to make Plett ungovernable was that a number of senior managers refused their co-operation. As a result, at a special council meeting on 14 July, council suspended the Municipal Manager for his role in the “mutiny” and disregard for council instructions. He remains on suspension for a maximum period of 60 days. An outside specialist investigator has been appointed to investigate the allegations and supply him with a detailed charge sheet within 30 days. A disciplinary hearing will then be held. During the interim we are fortunate to announce an acting municipal manager, Martinus “Duppie” Du Plessis, who assumed his duties on 1 August. Duppie is on loan from Premier Helen Zille’s office. He is a turn-around expert and most recently turned around Stellenbosch. He is an expert in organizational structures. Provincial government has loaned us several financial and management experts and is giving us invaluable support during

these first months. Sorting out the problems left us by the previous council is a high priority for the Premier and the Province and we appreciate all their support. Financial Crisis. After six weeks we finally accessed Plett’s financial situation and were able to get a picture of the crisis our former council has left us. It’s far, far worse than feared. We are “bankrupt” with a deficit of at least R32 million which is growing daily as chickens come home to roost. The municipality is bloated in size, we’re paying consultants who don’t consult, legal fees for frivolous cases, expensive contracts for services not being adequately performed, and we are suffering the aftermath of big parties and reckless over-spending. I can assure you that all of this will be reviewed as quickly as possible and corrected. We have experts already assisting us, and have taken expenditure authority away from the municipal officials. We are basically under self-imposed financial administration. We are working to get back on track as soon as possible, but projections are that it will take at least a year. So the big expenditures for events during Womens’ Month and other major projects will have to be carefully reviewed since the reckless level of spending we have had in the past cannot be sustained in a community our size. I request your patience and support as we sort through our cash flow crisis, unblock the stoppages that have held us back and start Plett moving forward again. Whilst this is going on, we are also working on priority issues, such as the airport and waste management, and will keep you informed of our progress. Community Involvement. We have received numerous offers of help from our community and are aware of the tremendous untapped expertise that is available to us. It is our intention to form various committees to assist the executive mayor with advice, and allow for volunteers from outside council to contribute their expertise. The committees are generally linked to a municipality’s overall organization structure and to dedicated projects. It is too early to say exactly what committees will be formed until we restructure. We request people who would like to participate on a committee to provide their CV and indicate their field of expertise. Please forward your CV to Cllr Charles Dreyer at charles@nothando.com and as soon as we are able to form these
committees we will contact you. Another way you can be of assistance is to let us know of irregular tenders or networks of corruption in Plett. We intend to investigate all of these. You can either email our municipal manager at duppie.duplessis@pgwc.gov.za, myself at booysenmemory@hotmail.com, drop us an anonymous letter, or make an appointment to see us. Other matters of interest. Carte Blanche was in Plett last week filming an episode which was aired on Sunday night. Unfortunately at the time of shooting we were not yet in a position to supply them with much of the information needed. The “bad press” continues to harm our town, but in order to keep you fully informed we have to be open and transparent. There is a strong possibility that Carte Blanche will return and that we will then not only be able to give them a better insight into what caused our problems, but also be able to show them progress in rectifying matters. I would like to congratulate our councilor, Annelise Olivier, who has been selected as a member of Mayco in Eden District. Annelise is one of three Bitou representatives. This is an important and strategic position for us as funding for projects from Provincial Government is channelled through Eden District, so having a representative on the committee can be very beneficial to us. Lastly, at our 5 July council meeting, council voted to disarm our local law enforcement officials. There have been complaints of them brandishing their weapons on the beach and at other inappropriate times. Note that the unit is a separate division from traffic police and SAPS and have very limited powers. They have no powers beyond enforcing municipal by-laws and may not carry out traffic duties etc. They may arrest people only for schedule one offences as may any peace officer and indeed any citizen. It appears that their formation, appointment and existence are illegal. The issue is currently being dealt with as a matter of urgency. You have entrusted us to turn around Plett and make it a premier destination holiday town once again. It is going to take a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but I am convinced we can do this. Letter via the Editor I would like to congratulate and thank Wesley McQuillan on a wonderfully successful bodyboarding contest AND jet ski race. I think it is wonderful that there are people who are willing to stand up and bring new and exciting events to Plett and not buckle under the pressure of a select few who really don't need to make money in order to survive in our beautiful town. I'll admit that when stories started circulating about 45 jet skis racing around our entire bay I was also concerned about the whales that come into our bay at this time of year, as well as whether it is really safe to have that many jet skis racing at once? But I wonder how many of those who joined the protest and signed the petition even bothered to find out the facts before putting pen to paper or how many of them hung around afterwards to see the race in progress? For those who didn't stay to watch, you certainly missed out! The race was superbly organized with many marshals and officials making sure that everything was done safely. The area that the jet skis raced in was really quite small and close to the shore making it really exciting to watch! The entire beach was alive and buzzing with people in a time of year that it would otherwise be pretty empty. And all these people needed a place to stay, ate out at restaurants and probably took part in some tourist activities while they were here - what a great source of income for Plett! I am a nature lover myself and certainly don't want to do anything to harm or chase away the beautiful whales from our bay either, but certainly a one day event once a year wouldn’t have such a dramatic effect. And I believe the very next day after the
race that 5 groups of whales were spotted in the bay!! I was also told that during the race there were some dolphins spotted in the area and the race was stopped until they had moved on - so nature was given the right of way! What a wonderful thing to hear!! With regards to jet skis not being in the "Vision for Plett", why not add them and show everyone how, with proper rules and policing in place, there is no reason why we all can't still have fun and enjoy our oceans without impacting on the beautiful creatures that live there. That would certainly make us the Nature Sports Capital! Two thumbs up on a job well done! Hope to see this event again next year. Letter via the Editor from a non voter……. Horrors most will say how can you not vote its people like you that are destroying the country and not concerned about our future…. The reason I don’t vote is because No One has any answers only PROMISES that never happen and until the HATE is gone no one will Ever have any answers:- Black hate Black.. Black Hate Whites never to forget the OLD regime WHERE many whites HATED what was happening’ Colourds Hate Blacks and vise a versa – Division amongst the Colourds English Hate the Afrikaners and so on and so on. So at last the DA is in by ONE vote at last Mr. Brummer you have some measure of Control, this constant rangling between Mr Brummer and Mr Mvimbi is Enough. Memory Booysen seems a real concerned person for the people and hopefully also for those that are affiliated to other Political Parties including the ANC. Lets work towards a Peaceful South Africa not in the importance of ME and trying to win favour by continual bickering and Power Seeking. No Person in the Political Field works for Peanuts - all are receiving healthy remuneration for the office, please I am stating under correction. There are few if any Mother Theresa’s in the world today, she slaved every hour of every day for the Love Care and Aid of the Poor Starving Masses. Of which we have so many in the Bitou Area. Do we really ever think how it must be to wake up every day with your children Wanting food and there is not a Cent in the
pocket and looking just over the road TO THE EMPTY MANSIONS of the Rich and possibly famous maybe the only answer would be crime so to feed my loved ones. I am dealing at the present with a Black Man not at all learned but who gave 15 years of Loyal Service to People that are Born Again Christians and after been Extremely ill and been hospitalised for 4 months and on his return was told sorry NO MORE WORK for you, and so he was turned away no further income nothing for his children just Charity from whoever felt so inclined. I certainly do not profess to know my bible so well but certain passages always stick in my head. Love Thy Neighbour as thyself …Do unto others what you would want done unto YOU…..Christ turned no one away no matter how good or bad they were. How he must look down on this earth and Weep for what Man has become……. We are all so POSSESSED by MONEY. If we have NONE we want it …If we have it we just want MORE & MORE. Bury the hatchet Mr Brummer and Mr Mvimbi work with Memory for the people of Bitou OLD & YOUNG and especially the POOR. With special Love for all the 4 legged creatures that are Hungry Abused and actually just give UNCONDITIONAL LOVE…..Gods Perfection there just must be a SPECIAL place for them after they leave this Planet….. which Man is not so slowly destroying because of GREED. Whether this is submitted for printing or not I have at last got off my mind the things that have been bugging me when I have to read about Mr. Brummer and Mr Mvimbi. Repair collapsing RDP houses, fix potholes especially Piesang valley Road, look at salaries that are being paid to
workers in this area, no money in Plett just exploitation of People trying to SURVIVE. No such thing as a Minimum Wage here, not able to Strike because they would have no work at all. The Epic Tales of Bahia Formosa by Arne Olaf Meyer
INTRODUCTION There is a little bay, some say an Eden - a paradise - just around the corner from the Cape of Good Hope and the southern Tip of Africa. This is the tale of the recent past of this alluring little place. It has been known by many names... but its most enduring is perhaps the Baia Formosa - Bay of Beauty. Named for the dominating peak Formosa which in majestic counterpoint to the Ponta Delgada - the Dolphin Peninsula now called Robberg or Seal Mountain, which together define the sanctuary of this bay. This little place has a far more interesting history than most who now have the privilege of living in its environs or others who visit it realise. The Embarkation: "For it was also from the caves and kloofs of this habitat that the human journey itself commenced several millenia ago. It is in these caves and forests, along this shoreline, and along the great valley that ends here that the spark of the human imagination caught fire, a glow that would come to light the world as the torch as it were was carried on the epic journey if our people. It is also a place that teaches us that we are all brothers and sisters and are all of the same root; leaves on twigs on branches from the same tree trunk. A tree of humanity, that was and is rooted and planted in Africa, like the majestic Baobab.
And that wherever we may find ourselves, we are all, originally and in essence:African". The Voyagers: "On the other sides of the earth, which on those days was flat, only a few peoples - who had millennia ago themselves migrated out of Africa - had developed the means to (re-)discover the land of their birth. Great fleets were imagined and floated in the eastern Land of the Sons of Heaven in a Forbidden City. Long ago sailors also ventured forth from the dry desert lands of the Star-Pointed Stone Mountains where the sacred river spilt into the deserts. And the trolls on the Dragon ships of the ice lands in the North. And eventually, in an unlikely venue; the dry arid lands of Iberia and Lusitania, a parched arid land, which had been so far good for growing grapes. Suddenly the pioneering flash to discover and explore those ends of the earth - and perchance to fall off the ends - flickered and took flame in the lamps and candles of the great brigs from these sea-faring cultures. Much as the glow from that ancient African fire would launch the human spirit to land on the governor of our oceans, much gazed at by our ancestors: the moon. A journey of discovery and exploration that defines us and is our best hope for the future, for as a thinker once said, even as we are in the gutter we still can look at the stars. Those stars guided the fleets of the prodigal sons, descendants of Africa, to return to her shores once more. Africa: "We learnt to walk on these rocks. We learnt to make fire on these rocks. We learnt to love on these rocks. We learnt to paint on these stones. We trod them as we learnt to survive using these very stones. Thus, is it rumoured, that when the rocks of Robberg and Matjes River Cave confide

Sea Turtles: Soon to be Extinct?
Due to hunting, human negligence, and development, all eight species of sea turtles are being pushed to the brink of extinction. The adult sea turtle faces no natural predators except that of man, but now without our help, these incredible animals will not last another fifty years. One of these species is the Green Turtle. This particular turtle lives in areas thriving with sea grass beds, and are considered symbols in longevity, because no one knows exactly how long they live. These poor animals are now being infected with Fibropapillomas disease, which is a disease that attacks the limbs, immobilizing the turtle. Since this disease has only just been reported recently, it is blamed on pollution. It is because of the human race that these sea turtles are dying off, and since we caused the decline of these species, it is our duty to put our best foot forward and save them. Letter via the Editor Wow its been such a long time since I wrote something in our community newspaper. I trust that the Team are doing well. I just had to write something for this week. I was watching Focus and felt so sad about the crime and drug wars in PE, and how the Police are calling out to the church to get involved. I thank God for the local churches, community leaders and roleplayers who are so actively involved with the SAP in combatting this Evil. The Main thing is not to grow weary or tired, but to keep on pushing and pressing forward, to hit on this nail until we get a breakthrough. As leaders we need to use the momentum and energy created by our first community march, and run with it!!!!! The women leaders of different churches has come together and decided on hosting a Mother and Daughter day for Womans Day on the 9th August from 9h00 in the New Horizons civic. This event promises to be life changing. we saw the need for relationships to be restored and healing to take place. We therefor invite all woman whether you have a daughter or not to come and see the hand of God move between mother and daughter, woman alone, daughters alone and every woman out there. I also want to invite all who are interested in dancing for God to come and join me at The New Life Centre in Saringa Road New Horizons on Monday 5th September 18h00. All ages and gender welcome. I have this dream to take children of the street and occupy them with different types of worship dancing.Every child has got the right to feel beautifull and have selfworth.....dance can do that!!! As for our fight against Drugs....................WHATCH THE SPACE!!!!!!!!! we are not dead and gone.............WE ARE CREATING PLAN B!!!!! THE DUST HAS SETTLED...we hope. Last Wednesday's Special Council Meeting was well attended and well behaved! compared to the previous four meetings. The Executive Mayor, in terms of a delegated authority bestowed unto him by the Council, has appointed Mr. MP du Plessis as Acting Municipal Manager until the suspension issue, of the previous manager, has been resolved. We all hope that he gets the support of Council and staff and the people of Bitou. It was the first time since the local government elections that votes could be taken on items on the agenda . It was NOT the first time that I felt somewhat frustrated by the party political system. The party in power invariably wins the vote by having the majority of councillors with the result that the opposition has virtually no say and its councillors are there merely to make up numbers. The brother of the previous President, Thabo Mbeki, was interviewed on the election process. He felt strongly that the party political representation councillors system should be done away with and replaced by elections of councilors by the communities. I concur with that suggestion. Last Sunday Bitou was featured on the T.V programme

'Carte Blanche' with councillors having a go at each other. There is a saying that there is no such thing as bad publicity but when the previous Mayor had to appoint security guards for protection and the present Mayor has to have a bullet proof vest as part of his regalia, such a T.V item will make people, local and overseas, think twice about visiting our area. Tourism is virtually what we live on and every tourist contributes to a better living environment for all our people. If we continue in vain to promote such scenarios we might as well 'switch off the lights'- blackouts will help in this instance- and move to 'Greener pastures'... if there are any left!
