is a talented up and coming artist. He holds a BMus degree from Wits University, with piano and vocal performance as majors. 3rd Annual RoundTable Plett 255 Bowls day

Sunday the 30th May was the date set for Plett 255’s 3rd annual fun bowls day! The entire table, including the Pipe-liners, geared up for the challenge of arranging everything needed for the day - sponsors, teams, prizes, Jagermeister, referees, waiters, sufficient Jagermeister, braai meat, salads, enough Jagermeister, tickets, posters, flyers and of course a few bottles of Jagermeister, just in case. After weeks of organization and many confusing emails, everything came together perfectly on the day, including the order for good weather! After 2 days of rain and cold, Plett managed to deliver a beautifully warm and sunny day for the event! The response from the

lunch for all the players while the ladies were hard at work in the kitchen preparing all the salads. After 16 ends in the sun, the players took a well deserved rest in the clubhouse and devoured around 150 Prego rolls, 6 platter sized salads and almost a tabler’s hand or 2! After lunch, teams were reorganized for another 10 ends. Some rare creatures were spotted on the greens during the afternoons play including the “whiskey-spotted, SA flag-caped, vuvuzella-crested bowling dragon” (please see attached photo of the mythical creature). Even the “slow- moving, red-eyed, Stormer-rooting disc jockey” woke up and started chirping. The players moved swiftly through the next ten ends and then headed inside for prize giving. The bowls club pro’s explained the rules for 16 ends of 2 ball trips, teams were given their lanes and score cards, and after a few practice rounds the games were on! Right from the start one could spot the serious “ringers” from the more casual Sunday drinking bowlers! The Plett Tablers were armed with trays and did a splendid task keeping the players well hydrated on the greens as well as braaing

Van Der Merwe and then it was over to Dion Weerman to hand out the prizes. The prizes went all the way down to 13th place but walking away with the top 3 prizes were: 3rd Place: Plett Sports winning 3x 2night vouchers for 4 people @ Beacon Island hotel. 2nd Place: Pick n Pay winning 3x 2night vouchers for 4 people @ The Drakensberg Sun. And in 1st Place: Rocky Road who won 3x 2night vouches for 4people @ Cabana Beach in Umhlanga! The specs: 101 players; 50 spectators; 1100 drinks sold;

Presents Chun Wang (piano) People’s Republic of China Monday 14 June, 2010 Chun Wang was born in Fuzhou in 1990 and started his basic musical education at age five. He began playing the piano at the age of eight. He entered the Music School attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in 2003. As a child prodigy, Chun Wang was the winner of numerous prizes in The People’s Republic of China , but became the object of international interest when at the age of 14 he was awarded 3rd Prize at the 1st Franz Lizst International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Weimar , Germany . Further awards; He won in 2006 in the Villa-Lobos International in Brazil and the same year he became only the second Chinese pianist to reach the finals in the prestigious Hamamatsu International in Japan . Chun Wang achieved 2nd Prize at the 10th Rencontre Internationale des Jeunes Pianistes in Paris and 3rd Prize in the 11th UNISA International Piano Competition where he was awarded the Marc Raubenheimer Memorial Prize . His studies continue at the Juilliard School of Music in New York . Letter via the Editor Shameful Bikers! The bikers who descend upon our beautiful and peaceful village seem to think that they can hide behind the fact that they raise some money for charity which in turn gives them the right to behave like absolute hooligans!! The charity they supported is PAWS, yet they never gave a thought to the unbearable noise they created with their incessant revving of their bikes right through the night! The poor animals in the area were so traumatised as the bikes were back-firing like massive fireworks. I have nothing against anyone having good, clean fun, but surely to goodness there should be a reasonable cut-off time so that everyone living in homes around the caravan park can get some sleep. We suffered through the polluted noise last year and again this year and would like to get an assurance that there won't be a repeat next year! It's simply not acceptable! A Greener way to a blue pool

In the 1990’s chemical engineer turned estate agent José Carreira found himself much in demand with his neighbours when their pools turned green while his sported a sparkling blue. Having tried all the conventional products, they would beat a path to José’s front door begging he give them some of “his magic stuff” – a mixture of chemicals purchased from his friendly pharmacy. Word soon spread and José found himself making up to 24 packs at a time, only to be telephoned the following day by a lady asking to buy all 24 packets. Then a gentleman phoned and asked if he could have an agency for the magic pool stuff – “He became, and stayed our agent, for many years” says José. “At this point we took this all seriously – we improved our formula and rented a factory”. The new formula was one that does no harm – José would sometimes put the mixture in his mouth to show off its safety features, but concedes “it did change my taste buds for a while”. “Pool Magic” was patented along with the well known little yellow feet logo. The thriving business was sold in 2009. Always needing a new project on the go, José explained he had been “itching to make fully eco friendly pool chemicals.” His wife, Jackie, was a driving force behind the launch of “Aqua Magic” dubbed “the green way to keep your pool blue”. Letter via the Editor Questions for the municipality Dear Municipality I have spoken to a number of people in and around Plettenberg Bay regarding the following questions. Could you please clarify some of the following. Your answers will be greatly appreciated. Q1. Why are greater Plett residents not allowed to have prepaid meters in their homes, And if they can, how can we obtain them. Q2. What on earth is the reason for the more than 14 pedestrian crossings in mainstreet? And why are there so few designated delivery zones? Q3. Why does Plett not have its own traffic testing facility where people can write learners licenses and be tested for their driving licenses? Q4. Who approved the construction of a shopping centre at the entrance to kwano on a busy N2? Q5. Who is in charge of tourism and what is this person doing for Plett? Q6. What is the deal with the Plett airport? Why has it been more than three years without a clear response from the municipality as to

More Wedding Belles at the Crags

We had 5 more couples getting married at St Michael's Crags, it was a joyous occasion as the two sisters of Titus family who married in February Valentine Day also tied the knot with their long time partners. The church was abuzz with expectation as the five couples arrived shortly after each other. They were beautifully dressed in white with veils and made a wonderful picture of the joy and greatness of marriage. Revd Pam Berning married them and shared the reception with them. The church hall was decorated in pink and white and was such a warm sight. Thank you to Daphne Barnardo who made a cup cake wedding cake, and thanks to Ann Holmes and anonymous donor for their contribution which made the decorations and wedding cake possible. Thank you to all those who worked hard from the Crags Community to make this such a special day. Thank you.

Letter via the Editor Plett Council Having just read the article in the CXPress of the 2 June 2010 regarding the municipality’s vendetta against Councillor Johan Brummer, I have come to the conclusion that as we know, everything that happens in South Africa is politically motivated, our Council is top of the list. Spending R1M on legal fees to try - by any means - to rid themselves of a thorn in their “large” sides, but they can’t spend R1M to keep the fuel supply running at the Plett Airport to supply charter aircraft bringing much needed tourists to our town and surrounding areas. This letter won’t have any affect, but at least allows me to express my frustrations. W.Stapleton
