Now the pre-season fever is really setting in... The coffee shops are quieter, the telephone calls shorter and the students more serious as the final exams are being sat. The shops are also filling up with fabulous new stock! Now is the time to get the pick of the crop before most of the visitors arrive and before the mid season frazzle! There is an air of anticipation for the Student Rage which starts next weekend... Time to shake off the judgement and join in the fun of recollecting what it was like (for some of us waaaaaay back!) to be young and carefree and ready to tackle the world with the confidence that our generation would indeed right the wrongs of the generation in power. What a wonderful attitude to recultivate ! And we pray that they do make the world better for us all. We trust that they will be considerate and not treat their bodies too badly and have a wonderfully memorable time in our area. Have a fabulous fun-filled week.!

Letter via the Editor On Sunday 7 November at 2.15pm Joan Sandberg and I were attacked in her home in Bowtie Villas. The assailant kicked and punched us, stole Joan’s handbag and fled. The police arrived in minutes, together with an ambulance which attended to Joan’s head wound. The assailant was caught in the Industrial area holding the empty stolen bag. We cannot praise the police enough for the prompt and efficient way in which they handled the case. Shirley Jacobson

PLETT MOVIE HOUSE TEL: 044-533 3952 EAT PRAY LOVE Drama, Romance : Based on a best-selling memoir, this is a woman's voyage of self-discovery. After marital problems and a failed affair, a woman decides to take time off to find herself and regain her balance. She plans to spend time in three different countries (Italy, India and Bali), rebuilding a side of herself in each. She has various adventures and meets some interesting people, all the while soaking up tons of local wisdom about life. Cast: Julia Roberts, Billy Crudup, Viola Davis, Javier Bardem, James Franco, Richard Jennings
LIEFLING Musical : Liefling, die Movie was conceptualised in 2008 by Paul Krüger. Pre-production of the film started in 2009 and the movie is due to be released this summer, on 19 November 2010. It is a South African first on many levels. The first Afrikaans musical to hit the big screen in over 30 years, it also includes the cream of the crop of South African production crew, artists and actors. The film was shot over a period of three months, its primary locations situated in and around Hartbeespoort Dam in the
North Western Province. Liefling, die Movie features 24 Afrikaans songs which have been adapted and finely honed by Johan Heystek and choreographer Raymond Theart. The song and dance explosion is directed by Brian Webber.
Plett Geared for Thousands of Students
The tourism department of Bitou Municipality in Plettenberg Bay is once again gearing up to receive thousands of visitors during the annual Plett Student Rage. More than 16000 students from around the country are expected to start arriving in this beautiful coastal town from Friday, 26 November till the first week in December. Various municipal departments in conjunction with law enforcement and tourism roleplayers have been working together to create a tourism plan that will appeal especially to these teenagers. According to Bitou Tourism CEO Dianna Martin, age-appropriate strategies have been put in place to ensure a safe environment for the students. “We have worked very closely with the local police and traffic departments as well as various transport operators in town to ensure that there is safe transport available to the students 24-hours per day. All transport operators are carefully scrutinised and appropriately accredited by the relevant transport authorities. These shuttle services will be running around the clock along various routes from accommodation facilities, to the beaches, popular night spots and town centre. This service is operated to absolutely negate the need for the students to be driving anywhere. Martin explains that local police will be taking a soft approach, yet maintain high visibility at all times. Acts of vandalism and any abuse of substances such as alcohol and drugs will however be treated with absolutely zero tolerance. Law enforcement will also monitor the occurrence of drinking and driving very carefully. The entertainment line-up for the 2010 Plett Rage is once again a reflection of all the unique offerings of Plettenberg Bay and surrounds. The festival schedule includes amazing events and activities staged at the
beaches, an exciting line-up of music and performers as well as the myriad of natural attractions that Plett has to offer. Fabulous brand activations will be staged at Central Beach, while music talent include Jack Parow, Lady Lea, Roger Goode and DJ Fresh. “We would advise students to contact the tourism office on arrival to enquire about special student packages, student passes as well as great offers from participating restaurants, pubs, accommodation facilities and tourism attractions. We would like to make Plettenberg Bay and environs as welcoming as possible to the students as we truly value their custom and see this as an investment in our tourism future,” states Martin. For more information, visit www.plettenbergbay.co.za or phone 044 533 4065.

A question to you all, do you condone the state of the dump? Do you know that one can barely get onto the surface of the dump to unload and there is not a dozer there to level (as of 12 October)? Greenwood Independent School Too Cool for School
That’s right, five children from Greenwood Independent School are too cool for school. So cool, in fact, that they were flown to Johannesburg to take part in the annual Eskom eta awards; the youngest contestants in the event’s 21 year history. The Grade 6 and 7 class, represented by Nicolas Reid, Kharma Rossi, Azi Ngumbela, Heather Anderson and Teva Shneor, designed an evaporative refrigerator, which is basically a tub surrounded by wet sand and held together with cloth and plastic mesh with a lid on top. Amazingly this device, made from scraps found around the home, lowers the temperature of its contents quite dramatically making electricity quite unnecessary in refrigeration. The simplicity and practicality of this little fridge caught the eyes of the
judges who were surprised at the youth of these inventors and were impressed with their understanding of the broader issues of sustainability. The famous five were feted at the event and a great fuss was made of their age and expertise. They were given a special award for their project in the Young Designers Category; other contestants were all from high schools. The children owe their greatness to Susan Donald who is the facilitator for WESSA’s program for Environmental Education in the Bitou area. Susan works closely with Greenwood Independent School to include these kinds of projects in the everyday curriculum. Unfortunately she was unable to accompany the young inventors to Johannesburg as she is currently in Sweden for a month as part of an award for her efforts in environmental education!

The Stray Cat
Dear God, please send me somebody who’ll care. I’m so tired of running and sick with despair. My body is aching and filled with such pain and dear God I pray, as I run in the rain that someone will love me and give me a home ; a warm cozy bed and food of my own. My last owner left me alone in the yard. I watched as they moved, and God that was hard! So I waited a while, then went on my way to rummage in garbage and live as a stray ; but now, God, I’m so tired and hungry and cold and I’m so afraid that I’ll never grow old. They have chased me with sticks and hit me with stones while I run the streets just looking for scraps. I’m not really bad, God, please help if you can for I have become just a “Victim of Man”. I’m wormy, dear god, and I’m ridden with fleas and all that I want is an owner to please. If you find one for me, God, I’ll try to be good. I won’t scratch the carpet, I’ll do as I should. I’ll love them, play with them and try to obey and I’ll be so grateful if they’ll let me stay . I don’t think I’ll make too long on my own, ‘cause I’m so afraid, God, that I’m going to die. I have so much love and devotion to give that I should be given a new chance to live so dear God, please hear me, please answer my prayer and send me somebody who will really care! A Whole New Ball Game!
New Garden Route Sport makes waves at International Sports Business Awards. If ever there was justification for use of the expression “a whole new ball game” then this is it. When Knysna based sporting events company Magnetic South submitted their concept for adjudication at an international Sports Business Awards, the ISPO Brand New Awards in Germany, they were not prepared for the level interest the concept attracted. Just a day after submission the team now has its hands full fielding enquiries about the game from all over the world. 360 Ball, as the name of the game alludes to, is a racquet and ball game played in a circular court and was developed right here in the Garden Route. Although the game in a circle has its origins as a back yard contest between brothers Mark and John Collins who used to bounce a ball of a circular wooden disc, it is today hardly recognisable from its original format. Although a version of the game does come designed for backyard recreation or play on the beach, it is at the top end of the game, in the specially constructed “Pro Court,” the real competitive sparks fly. Behind the high spec poly carbon walls, sporting action that rivals tennis, squash or volleyball in every aspect takes place. This fast paced game produces rallies that are as exciting to watch and as they are exciting for the players. Playing 360 Ball involves striking the ball off a centrally placed concave disc and it differs markedly from other ball games firstly, in that players of the same team may pass the ball to each other between strikes, and secondly and perhaps more revolutionary, in that there are

Play rotates 360 degrees around the central disc. Although the rules are slightly more involved than this, it is, like most new inventions, essentially a very simple concept and many observers are left wondering why it has taken mankind so long to invent this game. The agency responsible for managing the Brand new awards on behalf of the ISPO was not however surprised by the interest Africa’s only submission attracted, noting that it was the first time that a whole new sport had been considered for these awards. The ISPO, hosted in Munich, is the world biggest sports business fair and takes place in February each year. The ISPO Brand New Awards, as the name suggest, feature the latest cutting edge sporting concepts in
equipment and apparel. An international panel of sports experts adjudicates the submissions and will decide on this year’s winners at the end of November. Knysna Tourism CEO Shaun van Eck confirmed that he will donate one 360ball board to one of the local schools for underprivileged children if 600 or more votes come together for this invention.

Over the past couple of weeks sightings have been made of a rare visitor to South African waters – the Southern Elephant Seal. The individual has been seen hauled out amongst the Cape Fur Seals on Robberg Peninsular, and can be easily identified by her silvery grey fur and significantly larger size. Elephant seals are the largest of all seals, males reaching up to 3500kg in weight and 6m in length. The animal sighted in the Robberg seal colony was identified as a female, since she is lacking the trunk-like proboscis that is characteristic of male elephant seals. Normally found in subAntarctic waters, elephant seals are solitary animals and spend 90% of their underwater in open ocean, only coming ashore to breed and moult. Unlike other seals, which moult year round; elephant seals undergo a ‘catastrophic moult’, meaning they lose all their hair at once. It is thought that this female has hauled out at the cape fur seal colony to moult, and will soon head back south to her sub-Antarctic feeding ground. Capable of diving over 1000m deep for up to 2 hours, elephant seals are remarkable creatures which we are privileged to have visiting our shores. A Thought for the Week.
Genesis 8:20 [MKJV] “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.” Most of us know the biblical story of the Great Flood, evidence of which is there to be seen in abundance and even non-Christians will have to admit to that. Here, in the verse above, we find Noah immediately after leaving the ark busy building an altar so that he could offer sacrifices to God and worship Him. It is important to notice that after having lost his home and virtually all his earthly possessions Noah does not immediately get to work building a place to stay or preparing to plant a crop or seed the land. No, the very first thing he does is to seek the Lord in prayer and worship. This makes me reflect about my own life and my priorities. What is it that keeps me occupied every morning when I awake and enter into a new day – almost like Noah begun a “new life’ on that particular day. Do I immediately get involved with all the “important” things in my life that demand my attention or, like Noah, is it my first priority to have communication with my Heavenly Father? It is said that Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States [1861-1865] would not start a day without first seeking the Lord in prayer. The story is told that one day he had an important visitor coming to see him. However, as the appointed time arrived the man was kept waiting for quite a while when finally he was admitted and, as he entered the room Lincoln said: “The affairs of State are so grave that I just had to spend an extra hour in prayer this morning.” God is eagerly waiting for us, His children, to meet with Him first thing in the morning to enter the new day with us and to assure us of His presence, His love and guidance.

HAPPINESS:
A Guide to Developing Life's Most Important Skill It is important for well-being to have a sense of direction. Direction gives rise to diligence and joyous effort arises as you get closer to your goal. If you lack direction in life, then it is easy to get discouraged, despair and feel hopeless. If you have meaningful goals in life, like trying to become a better human being, then this gives rise to hope and happiness. When we know the benefits of cultivating good qualities, then we get motivated to do it. Compassion gives rise to confidence and courage, whereas pride and arrogance make us very vulnerable. Inner transformation is arduous in the beginning, but it becomes more and more fulfilling as you go along. You get a sense of accomplishment, and positive results bring enthusiasm to continue. Whereas with mundane activities, they are nice in the beginning, but often lead to frustration and disillusionment. We waste so much time. Simplify your life. This doesn’t mean that life becomes less colorful – it actually becomes more meaningful, because you don’t waste time on things that don’t contribute to well-being. You prioritize and create a hierarchy in your life. You give up things that are not important. You renounce things that are not meaningful. Time spent studying our minds and generating positive emotions is so valuable. We have the potential to realize the basic nature of our minds, our enlightened essence. We must find ways to actualize our potential, to become better human
beings, to help and serve others. This goal gives rise to realistic optimism, not naïve optimism, simply thinking that all will be fine but not doing anything constructive about it. We can gradually transform our minds, reduce and eliminate mental toxins that cause us misery. We can cultivate wisdom, loving-kindness, compassion, altruism, inner strength, peace, and freedom. We are not born with these skills but they can be cultivated through mind training. If we see the
advantages of doing things, then we do them. To understand how our mind works, and to develop our potential is one of the most enriching and fulfilling things we can do with our lives. Extracts from HAPPINESS series, Thursday evenings at SAT CHIT ANAND BUDDHIST CENTRE. There is a retreat this weekend which will be based on this series and will teach some of the skills of cultivating happiness.

We have had the following letter written by Gareth Cliff forwarded to us for inclusion in the What’s New in Plett by a number of people… so here it is to share with all our readers.
12th October, 2010 Dear Government OK, I get it, the President isn't the only one in charge. The ANC believes in "collective responsibility" (So that nobody has to get blamed when things get screwed up), so I address this to everyone in government the whole lot of you - good, bad and ugly We were all so pleased with your renewed promises to deliver services (we'll forgive the fact that in some places people are worse off than in 1994); to root out corruption (so far your record is worse than under Mbeki, Mandela or the Apartheid regime - what with family members becoming overnight millionaires); and build infrastructure (State tenders going disgustingly awry and pretty stadia standing empty notwithstanding) - and with the good job you did when FIFA were telling you what to do for a few months this year. Give yourselves half a pat on the back. Since President Sepp went off with his billions I'm afraid we have less to be proud of - Public Servants Strikes, more Presidential bastard children, increasing unemployment and a lack of leadership that allowed the Unions to make the elected government it's bitch. You should be more than a little worried - but you're not. Hence my letter. Here are some things that might have passed you by: 1. You have to stop corruption. Don't stop it because rich people moan about it and because it makes poor people feel that you are self-enriching parasites of state resources, but because it is a disease that will kill us all. It's simple - there is only so much money left to be plundered. When that money runs out, the plunderers will raise taxes, chase and drain all the remaining cash out of the country and be left with nothing but the rotting remains of what could have been the greatest success story of post-colonial Africa. It's called corruption because it decomposes the fabric of society. When someone is found guilty of corruption, don't go near them - it's catchy. Making yourself rich at the country's expense is what colonialists do. 2. Stop complaining about the media. You're only complaining about them because they show you up for how little you really do or care. If you were trying really hard, and you didn't drive the most expensive car in the land, or have a nephew who suddenly went from modesty to ostentatious opulence, we'd have only positive things to report. Think of Jay Naidoo, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi and Zwelinzima Vavi - they come under a lot of fire, but it's never embarrassing - always about their ideas, their positions, and is perfectly acceptable criticism for people in power to put up with. When the media go after Blade Nzimande, Siphiwe Nyanda and the President, they say we need a new
WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 18 NOVEMBER 2010
Letter via the Editor
piece of legislation to "make the media responsible". That's because they're being humiliated by the facts we uncover about them daily, not because there is an agenda in some newsroom. If there had been a free press during the reigns of Henry VIII, Idi Amin or Hitler, their regimes might just have been kept a little less destructive, and certainly would have been less brazen and unchecked. 3. Education is a disaster. We're the least literate and numerate country in Africa. Zimbabwe produces better school results and turns out smarter kids than we do. Our youth aren't usemployed, they're unemployable. Outcomes-based-education, Teachers' Unions and an attitude of mediocrity that discourages excellence have reduced us to a laughing stock. Our learners can't spell, read, add or subtract. What are all these people going to do? Become President? There's only one job like that. We need clever people, not average or stupid ones. the failure of the Education Department happened under your watch. Someone who writes Matric now hadn't even started school under the Apartheid regime, so you cannot blame anyone but yourselves for this colossal cock-up. Fix it before three-quarters of our matrics end up begging on Oxford Road. Reward schools and teachers who deliver great pass rates and clever students into the system. Fire the teachers who march and neglect their classrooms. 4. Give up on BEE. It isn't working. Free shares for new black partnerships in old white companies has made everyone poorer except for Tokyo Sexwale. Giving people control of existing business won't make more jobs either. In fact, big companies aren't growing, they're reducing staff and costs. The key is entrepreneurship. People with initiative, creative ideas and small companies must be given tax breaks and assistance. Young black professionals must be encouraged to start their own businesses rather than join a big corporation's board as their token black shareholder or director. Government must also stop thinking that state employment is a way to decrease unemployment - it isn't - it's a tax burden. India and China are churning out new, brilliant, qualified people at a rate that makes us look like losers. South Africa has a proud history of innovation, pioneering and genius. This is the only way we can advance our society and economy beyond merely coping. 5. Stop squabbling over power. Offices are not there for you to occupy (or be deployed to) and aggrandize yourself. Offices in government are there to provide a service. If you think outrageous salaries, big German cars, first-class travel and state housing are the reasons to aspire to leadership, you're in the wrong business - you should be working for a dysfunctional, tumbledown parastatal (or Glenn Agliotti). We don't care who the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces is if we don't have running water, electricity, schools and clean streets. You work for us. Do your job, don't imagine you ARE your job. 6. Stop renaming things. Build new things to name. If I live in a street down which the

People aren't as stupid as you think we are. We know you sit around laughing about how much you get away with. We'll take you down, either at the polls - or if it comes down to the wire - by revolution (Yes, Julius, the real kind, not the one you imagine happened in 2008). Careless, wasteful and wanton government is a thing of the past. The days of thin propaganda and idealized struggle are over. The people put you in power - they will take you out of it. Africa is tired of tin-pot dictators, one-party states and banana republics. We know who we are now, we care about our future - and so should you. G

Our Tshisa Talent artists are really Hot!!!
Just less than 2 months ago saw the finals of Tshisa Talent taking place at the Whitehouse Theatre. This Bitou Tourism / Lunchbox Theatre initiative saw the top 8 artists from over 150 applicants battling it out or the coveted title of Tshisa Talent Artist 2010. And now these artists have gone on to shine their creative lights on other platforms. Miche Collison, Ammori Sass and The Unlimited Band have all gone through to the next round of the ABSA KKNK Artist Development Program. According to Clive Twalo from the Artist Development Program: “100s of artists from across the Eden District Municipality auditioned to be part of the program but only 20 were selected to go through”. Bitou can be really proud that all 3 of our applicants succeeded in getting through to the next round. They will attend workshops in Oudsthoorn on performance skill, recording contract deals, marketing and the music industry as a whole. Once the
workshops are complete they stand a chance to perform at the KKNK 2011 and then go on to attend mentorship programs. Further news is that the line up for this year’s Bitou Tourism Street Festival on the 16th Dec and the Candlelight Christmas Concert on the 19th Dec will both be made up of only local artists and most of those will be sourced from the Tshisa Talent process. The program is looking very exciting with a diversity of performers for both events. Expect to see Hip Hop, Pop, Gospel, Soloists, choirs and dancers. Our Tshisa Talent website in currently being developed by Insite Solutions and will feature many Tshisa Talent artists and a range of WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 18 NOVEMBER 2010
other local performers. The site will be launched by the end of this year and will be marketed to hotels, restaurants, event organizers, wedding planners and the likes. We are in negotiations for a bigger better Tshisa Talent in 2011 and we are sure that many more artists will be auditioning when they see the huge benefits that this year’s artists are gaining. So Tshisa Talent is still HOT!!! And the opportunities for Tshisa Talent artists are still rolling in a plenty. 2001 JEEP GRAND Cherokee LTD 3.1 TD 4x4 AT Diesel, Automatic, 167000km, very good & clean condition, black, sunroof, electric leather seats, electric windows, Netstar tracking R79000, call frank 082 826 1989 LIFE DALE Ministries The Crags Primary Room 41 every Sunday. Ectiva and reductil to be withdrawn from SA market.
Abbott Laboratories has agreed to withdraw the drugs Ectiva and Reductil from the South African market. The medicines, which contain Sibutramine, were registered in 1999 for weight loss and weight loss maintenance in obese patients. Patients with a Body Mass Index of 30kg/m2 or higher were considered obese and as well as those with a Body Mass Index of 27kg/m2 or higher in the presence of hypertension, diabetes and dyslipaedimia. In a statement by the Medicines Control Council, a post marketing study was recently conducted as part of the registration requirements of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to look at cardiovascular safety of Sibutramine. "The results of the SCOUT study have shown that patients using Sibutramine have a higher risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, resuscitated cardiac arrest or death compared with placebo treated patients," said the council. It said on this basis, the council entered into discussion with Abbott
Laboratories on ways to mitigate risks. Abbott has since decided to withdraw the drugs and the council will take appropriate action in this regard. The use of Sibutramine, which is also available in generic forms, is contraindicated for patients with a presence of, or history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, tachycardia, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, arrhythmia or cerebrovascular disease and uncontrolled hypertension. "Members of the public including patients taking Sibutramine are advised to consult their doctors for any concerns regarding this matter," said the council. -BuaNews EXCLUSIVE HAND PAINTED xmas cards now at the Shop—Market on Main MDAZANE FUNERALS Come join free transport to home cnr Nkqubela str 083 404 9687 come join CAR FOR Sale Jetta2 1.6 R20k neg reo 082 787 6492 DIGITAL PRINTING Kodak 533 5510. Municipal By-Laws Dogs on Beaches
The law Enforcement Unit of the Bitou Municipality will prosecute any person permitting any dog in any public open space or public road that is not on a leash. I now will face R500.00 fine if I go and play with my dog on a public open space and throw a stick or a ball for him to fetch. Where can I go and play with my dog? I accept the restricted beaches and picking up the poo, but there are kilometers of open beaches and my dog must be on a leash. This is insane. The Bitou Municipal Law Enforcement unit will also have to go to Kwanokuthula, New Horizons, Kranshoek and track the owner of every dog in the street, that is not on a leash, and fine the owner R500.00 Should I be fined, I will go to court and request a list of people fined in the above areas. If this is not a substantial list, as there are hundreds of dogs running free in
these areas, I will sue Bitou Municipality for Racial discrimination, as we are all equal, according to the law of the New South Africa. Dog Owner

I see that our municipality have decided to have a blitz on businesses operating from residential premises. I trust that the Municipality will not only target Plettenberg Bay but will include all residential areas and close down all illegal businesses, spaza shops and shebeens in Kwanokuthula and the informal settlements. Fair is fair. Roger Davis.

Gospel The Most Selling Music
Back then we use to define gospel as good news about Jesus Christ, as you must have read or heard about the gospel of the likes of Luke, Matthew, John, etc, Mr Kunene the ex Murray High Biblical Studies teacher could even go as far as talking about synoptic gospel which was defined as similarly gospel as it was the story that was told by those who were with Jesus at the same place and time. Nowadays we have the most popular music genre called gospel music which is most sang by Christians to praise the word of God. Almost everywhere everybody loves it, I mean worldwide, which makes it the most selling music in today’s music industry where technology and piracy had taken over and made it very difficult for the musicians to make money out of selling CDs, bus gospel still stands on its own. Christians have used the power of

this music to praise and spread the word of the Lord through this genre as you must have noticed many pastors and church choirs who had released gospel albums as well as those who have the calling of healing people through music and it had benefited them a lot in terms of financial support, the main thing that makes everybody wants to sing gospel, a thing that has left me wondering if whether it is still about good news or money making music. People who am I to criticize, but here I am saying the truth as it is, as we have seen a lot of artists on TV saying good things about their lifestyles and gospel music associating themselves with Christian religion as they want people to believe that they live what they say on their songs then later we hear or read negative things about their behaviour. I’m talking about the life of Lundi Tyamara, the legendary gospel artist everybody know and loves. The question is the likes of him, are they doing gospel for the love of good news or just making money out of a genre. Before. There were criticisms when artists from other genres used gospel songs in their albums, artists such as Zola, Jub Jub, revelution, etc. and it worked well for their albums to move units as those gospel songs become hits and ended up being played in each and every street corner of the townships. Remember Jub jub’s hit tracks ‘Ndikhokhele and Phindukhulule’, at churches they loved it, at taverns they played it and sang along with it. The question is, are our gospel artists practicing what they preach, you don’t have to answer it. FESTIVAL SEASONAL PLAN...Plettenberg Bay is a highly sought after holiday destination which attracts high numbers of visitors and tourists over the festive season. This unfortunately creates various challenges such as opportunities for criminal activities, traffic control as a whole, more emergency calls to fires and accidents and an increase in waste removal. It was therefore necessary to plan ahead by means of compiling a Festive Seasonal Plan which would in essence mitigate the impact of the drastic increase in population and potential increase in hazards and risks. This plan covers the various sections of the municipality. This includes 'inter alia' departmental staffing over the season, identified planning, time frames as well as cost involved. The key functional areas are Traffic Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue and Disaster Management, Security Enforcement, Waste Management, HIV and AIDS, and Beaches. The name of the person responsible for each dept. can be obtained from the municipal offices. The traffic
department will appoint an additional 15 temporary traffic wardens and the planned shifts will cover the whole day and night. The law enforcement will need an additional 20 workers to be deployed in the respective hot spots such as Market Square, the beaches, CBD area etc. Additional staff for beaches includes 45 life savers. 10 to 15 members will be provided by Vodacom for the clean up campaign -hopefully at no cost to Council! Seasonal promotional activities will be hosted by the Tourism department from 15 Dec. 2010 to 5 January 2011. An excellent time to relax and ENJOY! Greetings, Ald. Pierre Koep

Hunter’s Country House Celebrates 21st Birthday
16 November 2010 – Hunter’s Country House, Plettenberg Bay, established in 1989, the first Hotel established by the Hunter family, proudly celebrates 21 years of service excellence this month. From its original 10 rooms, today Hunter’s Country House boasts 18 luxurious suites and is internationally acclaimed for its fine cuisine, award-winning wines and comfortable luxury experience. To commemorate this significant event, Hunter’s has decided to invite its chosen charity, Masizame Children’s Shelter located in Plettenberg Bay, consisting of a total of 26 children to join the celebrations. Over the years, Hunter’s has regularly donated monthly food parcels, toys and support to the children. The Tea Party held at
Every second Friday Special package deals for state dependant Pensioners and the Disabled.
Cub’s Corner presented the ideal occasion for the Hunter’s Team to present Masizame with a cheque for R10.785.00, a generous gift from Hotel guests, Robert and Carol Pepper who recently stayed at Hunter’s. The Pepper’s came across the Hotel’s Community Outreach photo album whilst staying at Hunter’s and requested to pay a visit to the Masizame Children’s Centre where they spent all afternoon with the Children and were inspired to assist them. This incredible donation with assist the children in much needed funds for schooling. States Inge Johansen, General Manager: "Back in 1989 Craig and Jill Hunter opened the doors to one of the Garden Route’s first boutique Hotels. It’s a privilege to work at Hunter's with such an amazing team and to be a part of the tapestry of memories, enchanted evenings, special moments and legendary care and warmth of the staff that make Hunters what it is and indeed the entire Hunter Hotels Group. A staggering 35% of our staff has been with Hunter's for 10 to 16 years and a further 30% from 5 to 9 years. There is something irreplaceable about revisiting a Hotel and having someone remember the details of how you enjoy your breakfast or exactly the proportions of your gin and tonic at sundown. Certainly a huge thank you to Craig and Jill for starting this journey and for laying the foundations of a company based on care, generosity and enthusiasm which now provides employment and career opportunities to over 150 South Africans." Appropriately, Hunter’s Country House was recently honoured with the Diamond Award at the 2010 Diners Winelist Awards and Sage Restaurant, located on the Estate, is the proud, recent recipient of the American Express Platinum Card Fine Dining Awards in the Renewed Awards category. 2010 sees Hunter’s Country House celebrate its birthday along with two of its sister properties Tsala Treetop Lodge and Gorah Elephant Camp both of which have become proud members of the Relais & Châteaux Association and 5-star accreditation.
