The Charity Classic Car Show graciously hosted at the Country Crescent Hotel on Saturday 19th March brought a sense of nostalgic elegance to the town. The stalls, pony rides and art exhibition added extra fun to the day. All were enthralled by the many amazing cars on show. Thank you to Graham Yendall and his team for organising what we hope will be an annual event. On Saturday the area was also treated to a sumptuous lunch at the Peppermill in aid of Kids of Kurland. The beautiful voice of Miss M accompanied by the Piano Man added a wonderful touch to a great occasion. Thank you. There was also great music at Kwano ... Youth action in Kranshoek and much more Read all about it in this edition. Holidays start this weekend. Enjoy! Don’t miss the fabulous 1 night only performance of the Rondebosch Boys Concert Band on Tuesday 29th. Dreams, still TYRO was represented again by Sekshin who caused a havoc with his single from his coming album called Kwaito Royal Blood the song that is inspired by the love of Plett is called Bitou ePlett (Apho ndiphuma khona), it had made everyone to bounce up and down as they can’t control themselves from the excitement of the song that gave them an ownership. The crowd called for more after Sekshin finished the song, even the strict program director could not play by his own rules as the crowd shouted “we want more” on its repeat everybody was singing along in the chorus, even now in the streets of KwaNokuthula kids are singing this chorus. After this performance I talked with Sekshin who said this is why he believes the Bitou slogan that says “let’s be the best together” lets support local initiatives and entertainment, corporate business because our young people are becoming respected entrepreneurs and the growth of development is therefore inevitable. After Sekshin the man who is the mastermind behind the sound of Tryo, the young DJ Menzaizo takes on stage. It’s a sad day I travel regularly between Plettenbergbay and George and recently when passing Kwanokathula I saw at the entrance of the township that a Bottle store has been opened-the entrance to a township and it’s a bottle store-why can we not erect two huge crosses at the entrance.....maybe if we put God first we can overcome some of the ills of the world - I don’t for one minute take offence against the botte store. They saw the opportunity and took it, if they didn’t someone else would - but the first thing you see going into the township????. Now I believe our great government wants to change liquor laws-make it a requirement that you need to be 21 to buy alcohol, but to change the legal age for consent sex from 18 down to 12....so if you arrive home drunk as a 21 year old and rape a 12 year old child it’s no longer considered a minor......so was it consensual or not....even if it is rape it’s not with a minor. I think it’s time we found a political party that puts GOD and the morals of human beings first - let’s get back what we have lost and build South Africa into a GOD run country. Wayne

STREET DELIVERY POSTAL PROBLEMS. Up until November 2009 our mail was delivered by a cheerful postal worker called Hendrik, who unfortunately left Plettenberg Bay due to the high cost of housing. Hedrik was replaced by a worker from New Horizons, but from December 2009 no mail was received for the ensuing 4 months. After making many complaints locally, with no response, we took our complaint to George and they eventually took action and found piles of undelivered mail dumped in the postal workers back yard, but unfortunately most of this mail had been destroyed by rain. This postal worker was subsequently arrested and charged with theft of mail. Unfortunately, since that date the majority of our mail has still gone missing and it was only taking our complaint to Port Elizabeth that magically we are receiving mail once again. On questioning the postal delivery man about our missing mail, he stated that we are not the only ones complaining. If you have not been receiving your post to your street address may I ask you to contact me so that we can advise the authorities. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off.. They practically run you over as they speed off in your car. Do you ever notice yourself dwelling on a negative event from the past? Have you ever obsessed over a past fight with a sibling, a falling out with a friend, losing out on a promotion, or of course, your past relationship? Somehow it seems the larger negative events from our past get seared into our minds and we often return to them over and over again to....to what? To fix them? Why do we do this? I will tell you why: Sigmund Freud. Almost a century ago, Freud purposed that every single psychological event in our lives was determined by a negative force from our past. The idea caught on and Freud and his legions of followers would spend every precious second of a therapy session trying to fix a traumatic childhood (even if their patient didn't have one!) Freud's theories made sense at the time - "I must be messed up, because bad things happened to me in the past - now I'm just damaged." Unfortunately, much of what Freud proposed was never put to a scientific test. Modern mental health professionals have now culminated years of research and here are the results: if your parents divorce when you're young, it only has slight disruptive effects in adulthood; if you are born as a first child, your IQ is on average only 1 point higher; a parental death will result in only slightly increased depression in adulthood. What does this all mean? One thing - your past DOES NOT determine your future. What has happened to you in your past is part of you who are, but

does not determine who you will and can be. What you've done in the past at work, with your family, and in relationships does not dictate what can be in the future - it is scientifically proven. So, what does determine your future? Two things: 1) Your ability to dispute your negative thoughts and 2) Your ability to be optimistic about your future. Next time you catch yourself stewing in past negativity, remind yourself that event is a part of your learning and growth experience. Next time you have a negative thought about yourself, have an argument with yourself and dispute your thoughts. Finally, learn to be more optimistic. Learn? That's right, optimism can be learned. Did you know that positive psychologists have determined that optimists think of good things in their lives as permanent and pessimists think of good things as temporary? If you receive a bonus at work and you are an optimist, you say, I deserved it, because I am awesome. If you receive a bonus at work and you're a pessimist, you say, it was a fluke and probably won't happen again. Young Athlete Inspires

It’s wonderful to see in our town there’s young people who are busy with something just like Theopelus Nophulula who is an athlete. He started running at the age of 15 years at East London at Haarmanus stadium, where he won a silver medal. He came to Plett 2008, went to run at Knysna forest club, win again silver medal after that he went to Mosselbay, bring home a gold medal. He did not relax, went to run at Sedgefield, showed he is still the best, winning a bronze medal. On 23rd April he will show his carrier at Cape Town that he’s the best of the best when it comes to a marathon. Theopelus loves running, he believes, trusts himself he will do whatever it takes to make sure he will always win. I asked him what is your encouragement to young people? He said: Know what you want in life, be involved in sport keep away from finding yourself in problems, sport is very good for young people, there is a lot of things in sport, young people must keep themselves busy with something positive just like him. Theopelus is looking forward through athletics, to him nothing is difficult. I wish you man success at Cape Town on 23rd April 2011, show them u are still the best. You can do it. Services at municipal clinic My Gardener went to the clinic having toothache. He was diagnosed - abcess come back in June. Needless to say when he came to work face badly swollen I went to the local pharmacy and got him antibiotics and analgesics– doubt whether he will be back in June. Last week my lady that works for me told me her grandson age of 12 went to the clinic with toothache . Reply- come back in May. No treatment . My query : How does a child of age 12 put up with toothache for 2and a half months. I then made an appointment with a dentist which would have cost them +- R200.00 Excuse me where were they to got that amount. End of story Dr removed the two teeth causing his discomfort+ duly supplied antibiotics. My lady expressed her gratitude. Grandson now without toothache. Would love to have some reply from Plett Municipal Clinic. What is their view Do they really care The impression I have is a great big No. On health services empathy for those that need attention. Ist Plett Surf Micro Nipper`s Camp

As the Nipper season draws to a close,one of the hi-lites of the year must surely be the Micro Nipper`s Camp held at Keurbooms Lagoon Caravan Park over the start of the long weekend. Coach Roberto Boni, Gerhard van Huyssteen, Chris Fermor & many Micro Nipper parents organised a camping night Plett Surf Micro`s will never forget. Micro Nippers are the `little ones` in the Plett Surf Club, aged between 6 to 8 years old. They still practice just as hard as the older Nippers, aged between 8 & 14 years, and love competitions just as much .The Micro nippers team has grown from 25 children, in Oct 2010 to 65 to date. On Saturday morning the Micro Nippers had their own Club Champs at the Lagoon. Micro`s fiercely competed in Mali Board, Body Board, Beach Sprints, Long Run, Swim & everyone’s favourite Flags. This has been a very busy 2 weeks for us with all our performances as well as preparing for the KKNK Arts Festival in Oudtshoorn… This week is Water Week and as one of our most vital resources it is so important for us all to understand why it is so important and how to conserve it so we have teamed up with the Eden District Municipality to perform our water conservation show, The Last Drop, for 5 schools in their area. Classic Car Show

The inaugural Classic Car Show at the Country Crescent Hotel held on Sat 19 March attracted some 60 classic cars and 15 motorcycles as well as trade exhibitors. Orginiser Graham Yendall said he was happy at the level of participation of this event. Latest Plett News & Photo updates THE WESTERN CAPE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HOSTED TB LAUNCH AT THE BOSSIESGIF HALL The Western Cape Department of health in partnership with Bitou Local Aids Council hosted TB Launch at the Bossiesgif Hall on the 16th of March 2011. The launch was mainly aimed on teaching the community about tuberculosis, its symptoms, the Multi-Drug Resistant TB, Extensive Drug Resistant TB, how to treat and prevent. The TB launch was honoured by the presence of the Executive Mayor, Mr. Lulama Mvimbi, the Deputy Mayor, Ms. Monica Seyisi,

Sister Gwen Majavie from Plett Community Health Care Centre gave the audience an overall outline of TB, the types of TB and its medical costs per person. She said about 200 patients with normal pulmonary tuberculosis had been successfully treated for 6 months and that the treatment costs R300 per patient. She also said if one had TB before and is later re-infected, then the medication doubles the costs from R300 per patient to R600. Sister Majavie also said TB cure rate is 88, 9% from December last year. According to Sister Majavie they have 24 MDR patients who are usually admitted at the TB Health Care Centre in George. She said the MDR treatment takes longer and it costs R60 000 per patient. Sister Majavie continued to say the

However, for XDR TB, the duration is 2 years if it is successfully treated, its treatment costs R116 000 per patient and the cure rate is 5%. She also acknowledged the enormous contribution made by their stakeholders towards strengthening infection control in all TB General Hospitals and Primary Health Care Facilities. Sister Majavie also urged the community street leaders to support the primary health care in making sure that teenagers do take their TB treatment on a daily basis. The Bitou Executive mayor, Mr. Lulama Mvimbi acknowledged the importance of the TB launch as TB is one of the opportunistic diseases. According to Mr. Mvimbi, TB is also caused by the conditions the community is living in, hence the role of the municipality to ensure better services for all is imperative. He also urged the TB patients not to be discouraged by the number of tablets they have to take on a daily basis. The Executive mayor highlighted that one of the reasons, which leads to the high default rate is the brunt of poverty in our communities. Mr. Mvimbi also

encouraged the community to create sustainable projects that will provide care and information to people infected and affected as well as those that will eradicate poverty. The Deputy Mayor, Ms Monica Seyisi also applauded the Department of Health for hosting the TB launch at Bossiesgif. She encouraged the community to go to the primary health care for the TB tests and take take full treatment when diagnosed with TB. Ms. Seyisi also made a wish to the nursing staff for the mobile health care vehicle for Bossiesgif and Qolweni. The program Director, Mr. Nkosiyabo Lose said they all have a responsibility to go out and teach the community about Tb, its symptoms and the importance of taking the full treatment until it is successfully treated. As witnessed through the launch of TB on the 16 March 2011, this shows the commitment of the Department of Health. Snippets for the Week

Another hectically busy week. Spaying and removing unwanted, sick, manged, and homeless animals. Strange how we experience the worst of the worst, sort out and move on. I went through my records on file for the past 2 years and couldn't sleep. Can't believe how much has happened and what I have witnessed since we started with this project. It is just so difficult to understand how humans can be so absolutely cruel. Grateful thanks for the support we receive. Without your help, we would not be able to make a difference in helping these animals and ensuring that they also can experience a better life. There are so many dog packs in Kwanokuthula. I have counted up to about 20 dogs together at one time. They chase cars, bite the bumpers and tyres, even jump and grab onto the side mirrors. I witnessed an elderly lady walking in her street today, when 3 dogs came

out and tried to bite at her legs. Within seconds she was surrounded by dogs and no one even tried to help her. She managed to grab a small branch from a tree and hit them off with this. You can just imagine what could happen if this was a small child. The only way to sort this major problem is to remove these unruly animals. We have tried homing the more placid ones, but this is unfortunately just not possible, as the dog is so set in his ways and even with love, patience and understanding, you cannot remove the "wild side". Our burial ground for the euthanized animals is a great concern and needs to be addressed urgently. I was devastated when I went to the burial site last Tuesday, with a bakkie load of dogs in black bags, and found that they had covered the trench with a bull dozer. After making a dozen calls, I eventually managed to speak to Sulani and the matter was sorted within minutes. We will continue to remove animals until such time that the areas are under control. I estimate there will be about 300 dogs that need to be taken from Kwanokuthula. Only then will the residents be safe to walk in the streets and only then can we practice Pro-life!
