happens when you’re in the moment. When you’re savoring a mouthwatering meal, a special glass of wine, or a cold brew. When you’re watching a breathtaking sunset from the shores of the Appomattox or James Rivers or shooting the rapids in a kayak or watching eagles from the bow of a boat. When you’re singing along at that lively concert or being inspired by a work of art. When you feel the adrenaline rush that comes with your bike leaping over the trail, or sliding through mud to the finish line, or the racecar speeding by at 200 mph, or flying across the zoo on a zip line. When you hear the crack of the bat, see the drop of a perfect putt, feel the splash of hooking a large mouth bass, or cheer on your team in fierce competition. When you pick up an antique that takes you back to a favorite childhood memory or reminds you of a time long past. When you are brought to speechless pause as you gaze across a battlefield where thousands fought and died. During your visit you are guaranteed to find LOVE because LOVE happens in The Best PART of Virginia!

“TURN: Washington’s Spies”
The Revolutionary War spy drama “TURN” returned to Petersburg recently to film its fourth and final season.
Little Hollywood The Best PART of Virginia is building on its reputation as a little Hollywood, especially for history-related film productions. Petersburg has hosted a series of film production crews working in the area. “Mercy Street” - a PBS series on the medical field during the Civil War has been the latest production to fill Old Towne Petersburg with crowds of costumed actors and actresses. Other major movie productions are Meg Ryan who directed the movie “Ithaca” in Petersburg, “Loving,” a biopic about Richard and Mildred Loving, that was filmed almost entirely in and around Prince George County and “Imperium” - a crime thriller filmed in Hopewell. In addition to the full-length movies, the list of television productions is almost too long to list, and includes “Killing Lincoln” and “The Abolitionists.” Hollywood has come to The Best PART of Virginia in a big way, and it appears they aren’t leaving anytime soon.
“Lincoln”
It really started in 2011 when filming began in Petersburg for Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” and has continued with other major movie productions. Photos courtesy of Mercy Street & Loving.
