This Blandings Turtle is a threatened species. In the Kawarthas, we have more turtles than anywhere else in Ontario. This is the place where there’s hope to recover the population. During the peak nesting season, which is now, you need to be careful to avoid turtles on the roads. Join in the Turtle Walk on June 15 in Fenelon Falls. Visit turtlewalk.ca for more information.

Legion Thanks the Community
City of Kawartha Lakes Council met for an hour and 10 minutes on May 21. Many items were briefly discussed, and a number of community deputations were shared.
The Royal Canadian Legion Bobcaygeon Branch recently had their elections. Executive Members who have worked so hard this past year and all agreed to stay on to continue our success story. I am pleased to announce that I am the new President and I am extremely proud to take this honour on mostly because I have such a great team to work with. The Legion as you know serves Veterans and we are commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day Normandy on June 6 with an Open House. Another important event we are having is our Honour & Awards Night on June 23 at 4pm. This year we are inviting members of the community to say thanks: Caygeon Cove, Rockland Motel, Egg Smart, Just for the Halibut, The Kawartha Promoter, Margaret from Royal Lepage, Shirley from the Kinettes and the Off the Street Band, along with many individuals from the community. This is just the short list! Many others have come forward to support us and we want to take this opportunity also to say thanks to them and to anyone who donated items to our auctions. Remember, the Legion is there for the Veterans and the community. We are always welcoming new members and we also need volunteers to come forward. Margaret Cameron, President Elect Royal Canadian Legion Branch 239
Red Boat May Return
The red boat at Red Boat Lane and County Road 24 in Dunsford was put up 35 years ago by the Reid family. After 35 years, the red boat has fallen over for the last time. It had fallen down and was propped back up several times over the years. Every time it fell down, people would ask that it be put back up because it has been a landmark for locals and visitors of the area. We have already had requests to put up another boat which we hope to do by mid-summer.

Notices from Council
Deputy Mayor Doug Elmslie shared that on June 8 Fenelon Falls will be hosting a “Wool and Fabric Day” at various locations around the village. More than 80 exhibitors will be present, and the event starts at 10am. Councillor O’Reilly announced that on June 15 and 16 the Kawartha Antique Power Association will be hosting its annual show at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds. Massey Harris equipment will be featured this year.
Deputations LEX
Harry Stoddart and Len Dawson from the Lindsay Agricultural Society provided an update for the City on what was going on at the Fairgrounds. One of the goals of the their new five-year strategic plan is to diversify and expand the number of offerings available at the Fairgrounds throughout the year. In 2018, the Fairgrounds hosted 40 events that attracted close to 150,000 people. In the last three years, they have paid down their debt by more than $300,000, and invested another $200,000 into fairground improvements. With the International Plowing Match coming in 2020, the Agricultural Society is looking to provide the infrastructure for campground usage right on the LEX property. They hope to have their plans into the City early next month and will ask the City for their assistance with some minor zoning variances moving forward. The presenters suggested that the Plowing Match would bring as many as 80,000 people to Lindsay who will participate in and enjoy the show.

Ontario Waterpower Association
The Ontario Waterpower Association, that represents all the public and private hydro-electric dam owners in Ontario, shared up-to-date data with Council and hoped to get Council to sign onto their charter which is pushing for an expansion of clean hydro electrical generation. Of the 224 dams province-wide, there are three hydro dams in the City of Kawartha Lakes and its environs – two powered by Elliot Falls and one in Fenelon Falls. Council voted 9-0 to sign the Ontario Waterpower Champions Charter.
Boys and Girls Club Kawartha Lakes
Officials from the Club updated the City on the construction of their splash pad facility. Construction has begun on the accessible facility that will be able to accommodate 270 individuals at a time. There will be no charge for the public to use the Club splash pad. The splash pad will be open during Club hours, and the Club will further improve the splash pad at their own cost by providing benches and shelters for pad users. The Club will also pick up all insurance and maintenance costs for the facility once open. The presenters then asked if the City would help subsidize the Club to keep it open in the evening and weekends when Club staff are not present. They estimate the cost to be $15,000 per summer. The possibility of supporting the Boys and Girls Club was referred to staff for a report to be delivered sometime in June detailing the legalities involved and the possible precedence this may set for City support of civic organizations.
Michael Bryant – Dromoland Orchard and Stable
Mr. Bryant returned to Council chambers to plead his case regarding hosting weddings on his rural property. Bryant wanted to remind Council that Premier Ford has said “the Province is open for business”, he believes that the City “is behind on their attempts to codify rural zoning” and that all of this is standing in the way of entrepreneurship in rural Ontario. Councillor O’Reilly asked Bryant if he was willing to meet with City officials again and Bryant said he was. Bryant stated he was open to all discussions “that would create jobs on farms in the City.” Mayor Letham asked Bryant if he was willing to serve on the committee being crafted to rewrite CKL zoning bylaws. Bryant initially hesitated but then accepted the Mayor’s offer and will be one of the volunteers helping the City craft a new set of universal bylaws starting today.
Petition to Resurface Kennedy Bay Road
A number of Kennedy Bay Road residents were present in the visitors’ gallery hoping that the City would move up the reconstruction of their road from 2020 to 2019. Councillor Ashmore asked if Council would consider moving Kennedy Bay Road to the 2019 work schedule funded by the capital reserve, with money returned to the capital reserve by the Roads Department in 2020. Town staff shared that the resurfacing project would cost approximately $250,000 to repair and improve the 2.2 kilometre stretch of road. Mayor Letham recently drove Kennedy Bay Road and agreed with Ashmore that the “road had failed” and that the repair “was clearly justified and needed.” Despite the City approving the repair for 2019 by a vote of 9-0, there is still a chance that the road may not be completed in the fall before the weather turns too cold to do road work. Work will likely begin after the Labour Day weekend.

COMMUNITY ROUND TABLE
By Kirk Winter
Janet Clarkson, the Mayor of Trent Lakes, is inviting residents of the Township to a community round table on June 1, 2019. There will be several key topics up for discussion including garbage/transfer site policies, short-term rentals and rural transportation. There will also be the opportunity to look at other issues of municipal importance that the assembled would like to discuss. The meeting will begin at 9am with an hour set aside for 10-minute presentations from concerned citizens groups, and then the round table discussion will run from 10am to 12pm. The meeting moderator will be local minister Reverend Roberts who is well skilled in these kinds of sessions, and hopefully the discussion will be fruitful and meaningful for all. Mayor Clarkson said, “Information gathered from this session will be very helpful to Council, and it is my hope that we will see more of what is similar in our
very spread out municipality than what separates us.” Clarkson asks residents “to set the date aside and to join in building ideas and relationships (across the Township).” For more information about this meeting please contact the Township offices at 705-738-3800.

BARC, The Bobcaygeon and Area Refugee Committee, is excited to report that a second Syrian refugee family -- mother, father, and four-year old daughter -- have arrived in our community. We need caring drivers, interested in another culture, who can take two to three adults and perhaps one or two children to Peterborough for English as a Second Language lessons. At present, this would be Friday mornings, returning about noon. Drivers will also be needed to take family members to doctor’s appointments in Fenelon Falls and/or Peterborough. Reimbursement for gas is available. As a community, we have provided a haven for these families and their five young children, safe from the horrors and danger of life in Syria. Now we want to help them thrive in their new lives as Canadians. To volunteer, or for more information, please contact Susan Cameron by email at bobcaygeonsusan@hotmail.ca.

Aquarius (Jan. 21 to Feb. 19) Let the sun shine in, Aquarius! It’s Spring -- and almost Summer – and it’s time to get out and enjoy the natural world. It’s a world that will do you “the world of good”. Pisces (Feb. 20 to March 20) Those with the Pisces sign are said to be the most sensitive of all signs – in touch with their emotions and overstimulated by too much activity. This is nothing of which to be ashamed! Indeed, it also means they care deeply about others and always wish to do their best by them. Aries (March 21 to April 20) Let go of thoughts that are not serving you, Aries. They only complicate life, and who needs that? Surely, you know which ones we’re talking about! Taurus (April 21 to May 21) Do not let money come between you and friendship and family during this phase, Taurus. Take heed and plan ahead for what could be a minor blip in your financial situation. Gemini (May 22 to June 22) It may seem like the odds are against you now, Gemini, but take heart. Why not view the hand you have been dealt as a challenge to discover new ways of delivering success? Cancer (June 23 to July 23) You must work hard at “love”, Cancer. It takes integrity and strength to keep the flame burning – every single day. Don’t take your loved one for granted! Leo (July 24 to Aug. 23) “Deferred gratification” – a term used to describe putting off good times in the present by working towards future gains, knowing there will be a pay-off in the end. to extend their gratitude for the day-to-day and lifelong commitments these doctors make. Local businesses are encouraged to show their support throughout the week by displaying words of thanks and encouragement to family doctors on their organization’s signage. A simple acknowledgement of the week, such as “Family Doctor Appreciation Week, June 3 to 7” or other special words of thanks such as “Thank You to Our Family Doctors” are some suggestions being offered by KLHCI. We also encourage all City of Kawartha Lakes citizens to show their support by thanking their family doctor for the professional health care they provide. KLHCI will be sending letters of appreciation to all family doctors. KLHCI has recognized two family doctors with gift certificates for a weekend get-away for two at any Ontario Inns and Spa. Cindy Snider, Recruitment & Retention Coordinator for the Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative presented the certificates to Dr. Graham Loeb of Lindsay (pictured top left) and Dr. Jane Clay of Omemee (top right). KLHCI is a non-profit, charitable organization whose mandate is to recruit and retain family doctors for the City of Kawartha Lakes. KLHCI is directed through the work of a volunteer Board of Directors that is actively engaged in attracting new Board members from the community. Should you wish to support the organization and their efforts, please contact Cindy Snider, Recruitment & Retention Coordinator at 705-328-6098 or csnider@ rmh.org, or visit the KLHCI website at www. kawarthalakesdoctors.org.

THANKS, DOC
Even though I don’t live in the City of Kawartha Lakes, where the 10th annual Family Doctor Appreciation Week is going on June 3 to 7, I’d like to add in my Trent Lakes two cents. When John and I moved from Toronto almost 20 years ago, I was concerned about finding a good family doctor. We had been blessed in the city with a great doctor and access to any number of specialists. We heard horror stories of living “in the boonies” miles from a hospital or, for that matter, ambulance service. We started our lives here with a doctor in Bobcaygeon, who got us through the first few years. Then, lo and behold, in the small hamlet of Buckhorn, the Buckhorn Regional Medical Centre was opened, with two doctors. Since we were residents of Trent Lakes, and our physician in Bobcaygeon had decided to retire, we anxiously awaited approval to become patients in Buckhorn. We had been chosen as patients of Dr. Scott Ferrier, who at the time was also an ER doc at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Over the years, Dr. Ferrier got to know us and treated all of our various aches and pains. He was easy to talk to about anything. As the years passed, and certainly John’s health declined, Dr. Ferrier was always there ... at the end of the phone line if I needed him and just a hop, skip and jump from our home. He was beside us for the slightest elevation in blood pressure to the onset of
congestive heart failure. While he was still on call in the Emergency Department at PRHC, he was a friendly face to see during some scary times with John’s health. In John’s last few weeks, Dr. Ferrier became a lifeline for me. Rather than panicking at the smallest change in John’s condition, I was able to rely on not only Dr. Ferrier, but the entire medical team at our local office. We got to know Dr. Jonathan Mallory, another family doctor and the palliative specialist at the BRMC for a short while before John passed away. Dr. Mallory was compassionate, understanding and a calming influence. We are blessed to have such exceptional family doctors in this area. They are more than our physicians, they become our friends and family. Thank you!

WALK FOR THE CAUSE
Bigley’s isn’t just one of the major retailers in Bobcaygeon, they’re also one of the major supporters to local causes. On Saturday, June 8, they’re holding their annual Walk for the Cause, a 5km walk through the town to raise money for the Kawartha North walk-in clinics in Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls. These clinics are not funded by the Ministry of Health, therefore, it’s important that we come together as a community to help keep these clinics open. The fee for the Walk is $30 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 14. Collect pledges for your walk and for every $100 you collect, you’ll be entered to win a pair of New Balance running shoes. Health & Wellness JUNE IS ALS MONTH
By Kirk Winter
Imagine a disease that little by little steals your ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and eventually breathe. There is no cure, and medical professionals are still not completely sure what causes it. This description of an illness is not the product of some new dystopian fiction. It is the reality of living and dying with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS. The illness is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, after the New York Yankee great who died of the illness at 38. June is ALS Month across Canada, and one of the hopes of the ALS Society is to raise awareness of what the disease is and how many people suffer from it. The ALS Society of Canada and its nine provincial associations hope to raise the millions required for research into this neurological killer that affects 2/100,000 people. They encourage Canadians to buy a cornflower to support those suffering from this devastating disease. According to als.ca, potential early symptoms
Caygeon De ture ture Caygeon De
include “feeling weak, fatigue, and muscle cramping or twitching. Over time the muscle weakening will continue to spread throughout the body, eventually causing difficulties in breathing, swallowing, chewing, and speaking.” As ALS progresses, the association shares that the some symptoms become commonplace, including “difficulty breathing, coughing when eating or drinking, difficulty forming words or projecting your voice, fatigue caused by muscle exhaustion, reduced food intake and weight loss, insomnia caused by discomfort and either excessive salivation of dry mouth.” Between 30 and 50 percent of people living with ALS will experience cognitive and/or behavioural difficulties. There is a very good chance that their thinking or personality may change. While some people have lived with ALS for more than a decade, it is a terminal illness where most die between two to five years after diagnosis. What is most frightening about ALS is that less than 10 percent of the cases are hereditary. ALS strikes both men and women randomly and effects people from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. ALS can strike the very young or the very old, but it is most commonly diagnosed in middle aged individuals. There is no effective treatment or cure. For more information, please go to www.als.ca, an excellent website that should answer many questions you might have about this serious and deadly condition.

ELDER ABUSE A GROWING PROBLEM
By Kirk Winter
On May 14, 2019 a story appeared on one of my news feeds suggesting that Spiderman creator, Stan Lee, may have been a victim of elder abuse at the hands of his former manager. Keya Morgan, Lee’s last manager and personal advisor “was charged with five offences, including elder abuse, false imprisonment, fraud and forgery of both signatures and artwork.” While most seniors in Ontario are not as wealthy or as famous as Stan Lee, the rates of reported elder abuse are sky rocketing across the province. According to Elder Abuse Ontario, between 2 and 10 percent of people over the age of 65 are victims of elder abuse. Potentially 200,000 seniors living in Ontario are being victimized by a caregiver, family or friend yearly. The World Health Organization defines elder abuse as “a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person.” It is believed that the most common form of elder abuse in Ontario is financial abuse. This occurs when the primary caregiver takes full advantage of their power over the senior and uses the wealth accumulated by the older person as their own, often forging signatures on mortgages and wills that will ultimately benefit the caregiver.
The Government of Ontario says there are a number of warning signs of an elder being abused, including: •C hanges in mood (depression, fear, anxiety or detachment) •C hanges in behaviour (social withdrawal) •P hysical harm (unexplained injuries) •N eglect (lack of hygiene, food or clothing) • F ailure to meet financial obligations or unusual bank withdrawals •C hanges in living arrangements (people moving in or being forced out) If an older adult tells you they are being abused, be patient while listening to their story, believe them, do not judge them, understand that making efforts to change an abusive relationship is extremely difficult, do not deny what is going on, do not confront the perpetrator yourself, educate yourself on resources available and encourage the person to seek help. By 2036, 24 percent of Ontarians are going to be over the age of 65, double the number that currently exist. Given the significant growth expected in the seniors population, it is imperative that we take action to prevent and assist seniors who are at risk and are experiencing abuse. As a society, we know the abuse is going on. There are laws to punish the guilty and we know the warning signs to look for. It is time we take this epidemic of abuse more seriously, and deal with it in a forceful manner to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Good Stories from Curve Lake First Nation
CHIBWAAMIN
As told by Doug Williams to Julie Kapyrka
It seems to me that we have forgotten certain things in ceremony that were important to our people. And one of those is fasting. We call fasting in the language: CHIBWAAMIN. And this word talks to us about dreaming. Dreaming of a protector that would protect us all our lives against harm. Fasting, remember, is also done by the Christian community although I see that perhaps it has been forgotten there too. But it is very central to receiving a spiritual companion who will stay with you for all your life and who will guide you through those things that will present themselves as being quite difficult to deal with. When I was a child, I spent much time with two of my Elders who went through these ceremonies to gain their CHIBWAAMIN. I asked them about it and they said they could put me out in the bush to be alone for one night in order to experience what it would have been like to fast. So one day they decided, when I was about 10 years old, to put me on Squirrel Island in the north part of Buckhorn Lake, and they would wait on the next island over called Flat Island where they would sit all night and keep a vigil and see that no harm would
James a. Goodliff
come to me. I didn’t quite understand fully, and it’s one of those experiences that stays with you all your life and you begin to look at it as a process of maturing spiritually. Anyway, they put me on this island and they made me comfortable. I didn’t have anything to eat for two days and they put me out overnight. And they encouraged me to dream. They said whatever comes to you in that dream will be an important being, usually an animal – that will help you, will protect you, and will guide you. And I said OK. And they wanted to do this for me. Nobody else was doing this and nobody else did it after a certain age group in Curve Lake. I was one of the last ones that I know of. So I remember the physical parts of the fasting – that is: the darkness, the quiet, the water. I wanted to drink water so badly but yet I wasn’t allowed to, even though the water was right there beside me. But they said I would be okay. They assured me I would be okay and to concentrate on the dreaming. “Make sure you sleep,” they said. So I trusted them. Bright and early the next morning I woke up. I had beautiful dreams of animals and then the two old men soon arrived to pick me up. They took me over to their fire and they put tobacco down on the fire as a symbol of prayer, of appreciation for what had just occurred. And they talked to me and they wanted to know what I dreamt of. So I talked to them for about an hour about all the

things that I dreamt about. And they said to me: Your protector is ‘this’ (this animal). And they told me not to let anybody know the name of that animal – because it would weaken its ability to protect me. So to this day I don’t talk about this but what I do is I speak to this guide which would be called a prayer in Christianity but we don’t use the word pray. DIIGANOONA – means I speak to that spirit for protection. I give that spirit animal tobacco everyday as those old men instructed me to do. And to give thanks particularly for all the work that the spirit has done for me over time. So I carry this with me and I hope someday that our children will return to that activity as a form of rejuvenation and revitalization of the culture. I remember another fast when I had a conversation with an osprey…but that is another story.
BPS WATER WALK
By Glenna Burns
Recently, Bobcaygeon Public School (BPS) senior students have been studying water and reflecting on its value to all life. Under the leadership of Curve Lake First Nation elder Dorothy Taylor, the grades seven and eight students have planned a ceremonial walk honouring the water. The walk begins at noon on Monday, June 10 from Henderson Park (near the Bobcaygeon dam on Front Street), on to Beach Park and back. The walkers invite others who would like to join their prayerful journey to honour the water to meet them and walk with them. This BPS water walk was inspired by the Water Walks held over the past 10 years on Mother’s Day weekend. In 2019, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people walked and prayed around Rice Lake. That walk was nearly 100 kilometres in length over three days. This BPS walk will be much shorter and will include similar ceremonies along the way as the Rice Lake walk. Truth and Reconciliation Community Bobcaygeon can be contacted for more information by email at TRCBobcaygeon@gmail.com. Trent Lakes Public Library celebrated birthdays and royalty in honour of Victoria Day during Story Time! After reading “Spot’s Birthday Party” by Eric Hill, the children coloured pictures and ate cupcakes. Pictured right is Library CEO Stephanie McPherson with Charlotte Stewart in her favourite princess gown to celebrate Victoria Day. Story Time is held every Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Buckhorn branch of Trent Lakes Public Library. Everyone is welcome to attend this free program and no registration is required.

Countess Maria Elizabeth Cziraky (nee. Andrassy) “Vivi” as she was known by family and friends, passed away on May 14th, 2019 in her 97th year. She was a remarkable lady who led an extraordinary life. She and her husband fled from a castle in war-torn Europe to a peaceful farmhouse in Nogies Creek. Vivi was a familiar sight in Bobcaygeon as she pushed her walker to the stores, post-office and cemetery. Vivi was extremely private and insisted on living independently. She is survived by a son, three grandsons and a great-grandson. She will be laid to rest in Verulam Cemetery. A celebration of her life for her close friends and family will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sturgeon Lake Minor Hockey Association. Friends may send condolences or make donations by contacting THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, MONK CHAPEL, 6 Helen Street, Bobcaygeon at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-738-3222.

SETTLERS’ DAY
If you’ve never visited Kawartha Settlers’ Village in Bobcaygeon, there’s no better time to do it that on their annual Settlers’ Day. This year’s event is on Sunday, June 9 from 10am to 4pm. It’s billed as an “Old Fashioned Country Fair” with carnival games and prizes, a petting zoo and pony rides for the kids, local vendors, music and entertainment. They’ll also celebrate the grand opening of the Discovery Trail. Admission is by cash donation, so grab the family and take a step back in time.
UNLOCK THE SUMMER
The annual tradition in Bobcaygeon of welcoming summer takes place on Saturday, June 8. This year, it’s an 11am start with music in the Gazebo and a bouncy castle for the kids. The bouncy castle will be open until 4pm. Shops and restaurants in the Village will be open for business with lots of great deals and tasty delights. Movie night starts at 9pm at Lock 32. Bring the family and enjoy some popcorn, drinks and the beautiful night.
MUSIC COUNCIL NOTES
By April Scott
Is Summer on its way? The Music Council hopes so. Concerts in the Park are just around the corner and this year the lineup looks wonderful. Last year, the weather was kind to us and all systems were go every week. Hopefully this year will be a repeat performance. We have our permit from Trent Severn for the use of the land at Lock 32 and we have acquired our

faithful sound man, Roy Craft. We’re looking for some students who need their volunteer hours to help with setup every Thursday. Some of the members of Council are involved with the Choristers and have been busy with the upcoming concert. Be assured, however, they are still very involved with the Music Council to bring you the very best of entertainment all year. Kudos go to our Artistic Director, Kathryn Terry, for the work she does to procure the artists for all the concerts. Thanks also to Bill Fry and Ken Boyd for acquiring donations, advertisers, posters and flyers for all concerts. Next time, we will spill the beans and let you know some to the concerts in the offing.
CHORISTERS CORNER

The Choristers are ready to give some details of our upcoming concert. It is fitting that we present ‘Songs for a Summer Solstice’ on Friday, June 21 at 7pm. As usual, it will be at Trinity United Church in Bobcaygeon. We will be welcoming our return guest Patrick Manahan with his saxophone and look forward to hearing what he has in store for us. There will be a mini-concert for the residents, staff and visitors at the Retirement Suites on West Street the week before. This is a big thank you to everyone at the Retirement Suites for their generosity and support for the Choristers. Some of you may not realize that they offer a room and piano for our practices and the kitchen staff very kindly produce coffee and cookies every Tuesday night for us. Tickets for the concert are now available. It’s only $15 for a great night followed by refreshments and a chance to meet Patrick and the rest of us, too. Tickets will be available at the door, of course, but if you would like to have them in advance and you know a Chorister then contact them, they have tickets already. Our Treasurer, Ron Cook, is our Box Office and can be reached at 705-738-0015.

MARKING D-DAY
As part of the Legion’s mandate to help Canadians remember the sacrifices of our veterans, Branch 239 will be holding a D-Day Commemorative Event on Thursday, June 6 at the Branch in Bobcaygeon. This is being held to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the beginning of the Normandy Invasion. D-Day was the largest seaborne invasion in history and the operation began the liberation of German-occupied France from Nazi control. More than 150,000 Canadian, American and British forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The Normandy landings, part of Operation Overlord, marked the beginning of the end of six long years of conflict between Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany and Allied forces. John Maker, a Second World War historian at the Canadian War Museum, has said, “D-Day embodied the courage and determination to prevail in that war. It was fought over issues that are still alive today — such as ideology, nationalism, and injustice. It was an operation in which Canadians took a major central part in the war. For these reasons and more, it’s important to keep the memory of D-Day.” The Commemoration at the Legion will start with a Veterans’ Lunch at 1pm. Veterans are asked to call the branch at 705-738-2710 to confirm their attendance. Please call before May 30 if you are interested in attending. At 3pm, there will be a Legion Ceremony to which the community is invited. There will be some static displays inside and outside so the public can learn more about the importance Canada played during this time in the world’s history. From 4pm to 7pm, the L’il Big Band will be playing and hamburgers and hotdogs will be available. You can find out more information by calling the Branch at 705-738-2710.
PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE TOURNAMENT
