BUYERS SHOULDN’T GET TOO COCKY It’s strange isn’t it how we make sweeping generalizations about a particular group of people and judgements about what they do? Why is this so? Is it jealousy? Resentment? Fear that causes this disparaging attitude? If that’s the case we must really start to take a look at ourselves… Now we all know that the perceived status of Real Estate Agents generally is not high - I think we are down there somewhere with Sex Workers. Pretty unfair really, seeing as, generally, they only work nights. So let’s take a look at this. Okay, I know what you’re all thinking… How does it go… “Those darn Real Estate Agents, they make a fortune, and what do they do? Take some photos and put the house online, sell it, and bingo! They get paid $20,000! Just like that! They never went to uni, or got a degree, half of them never even finished school - it’s crazy! And look at the fancy cars they drive - it’s so wrong… etc etc”.
"
be unexpected twists and turns when selling your property that weren’t predicted but if your Agent has covered all the bases in the first instance, then these will be minimized, and the process is a lot more likely to run smoothly, and not be stressful. So, the moral of the story is… be nice to your Agent, don’t blame them for every little thing that goes wrong - you’re on the same side, you both want the same result and they don’t get paid until they get you a result. The successful Real Estate Agent is only successful because they do care, they do have your best interests at heart, they do want to get you the best result possible and they have the experience, knowledge and ability to do this, if you take their advice, and work with them.
Don’t blame them for every little thing that goes wrong - you’re on the same side.
Well, let me make the first point - if an Agent these days is only in it for the money and doing “deals” - they won’t be in it for very long. The second part is the ‘average’ real estate agent makes around $49,500 a year. But yes, like any industry, the ‘cream of the crop’ make good money - but they have worked for it, they’ve worked long and hard, rarely if ever had a weekend off and knock themselves out trying to get a top result for their sellers. Now I know you all wonder what we are doing all week when you don’t see us - you’re probably thinking we are ‘out to lunch’ or ‘playing golf’ - well some may be, sure - but generally no - we are talking on the phone constantly, following up on leads, carrying out inspections, offering advice and guidance, creating databases of buyers so we have the contacts to sell your property, meeting stylists, photographers, attending building inspections, negotiating well interested parties, copywriting, preparing marketing materials and generally ensuring that everything goes smoothly and is a positive experience for all parties. Now it doesn’t always go like that - obviously there will always
So, when choosing your Agent, take a look at what they are doing in your area - how quickly they sell the homes, how knowledgeable they are, how you relate to them, how they behave at home opens, how well they present their properties and how comfortable you feel that they will do the right thing by you.
"
So please, choose your Agent for the right reasons, not just because they come cheap, or because they’ve quoted you a price you want to hear, or if they’ve said to just present your home as it is, because buyers can “see past that” - because all those things are going to cost you money and a good Agent is there to make you money - and a good Agent definitely will do that… if you let them…
