activ launches new franchise management platform A brand new franchise management platform named ‘The Keep’, has been developed and launched to benefit and provide additional support to the team of franchisees at activ Digital Marketing Franchise. Established in 2008, activ Franchise offers budding entrepreneurs the opportunity to run their own digital marketing agency, straight out of a box, with full head office support during the business setup process, providing initial and continued training as well as an ongoing resource. Meet Charlotte Maggs – Franchise Support Manager at Harmony at Home

Founded by Norland-trained nanny and mother, Frankie Gray, it has been providing high quality childcare services for parents in London, the UK and internationally since 2004. We spoke to Charlotte to learn more about herself, her role with Harmony at Home and what the business aims to achieve in the future. 1. Who are you and what is your role with Harmony at Home? I am Charlotte, and I am the Franchise Support Manager here at Harmony at Home. I support our founder, Frankie Gray, and all our current franchisees across the country, to ensure their success.

Alongside this, I also perform discovery calls and recruit new franchisees and support them as they begin their journey with us. 2. What does Harmony at Home do? We have developed a simple and successful model, to enable our franchisees to work flexibly from home, running an employment agency, which provides a profitable source of income and a guaranteed Harmony at Home level of childcare provision to local parents and households. Our household staff recruitment agencies find staff for private households. The agency is not the employer but provides a fullservice including job advert creation, interviewing, and screening applicants, matching applicants to the client’s requirements, setting up interviews for both parties, and interview feedback. An introduction fee is charged to the client upon their decision to employ an applicant introduced by the agency.

9. What has been your best achievement in the past year? Having worked with Harmony at Home for a year, my best achievement as Franchise Support Manager has got to be onboarding 3 new franchisees together as a small cohort in May. We have seen huge benefits of bringing new franchisees into the network in a group as they have supported each other as they each began to set up their own businesses.

Bringing the network together for the Annual Conference 2022, alongside Frankie, was also a great achievement for us. The first ‘inperson’ meeting for the network since the pandemic saw lots of franchisees and team members meeting for the first time. It was a very special moment for us this year. 10. What are your interests and hobbies? What do you do to relax? As a mother to two small children, I am always run off my feet, but working for Harmony at Home has given me the flexibility to be there for them when needed, alongside giving me the opportunity to work from home. I love to be outdoors with my husband and children, and we recently enjoyed a twoweek camping trip in France. We are looking forward to teaching our children to ski, and when I find the time, I enjoy yoga and tennis.

From coffee machine salesperson to business owner Gregory, who'd spent over 30 years selling high-end coffee machines to business up and down the UK, became owner of The Cat Butler Bromley in November 2021.

Former coffee machine account manager Gregory Deaton launched The Cat Butler Bromley in November 2021. The franchise serves Bromley, Keston, Beckenham, Chislehurst, Orpington and other areas within the Greater London district. What did life look like for you before you joined The Cat Butler? Gregory: Before COVID-19, I'd spent 30 years selling high-end coffee machines to businesses across the UK. As the country was plunged into lockdown, I soon found myself in a situation where demand for these machines dried up. With offices closing and more people working from home - even now - the demand for these coffee machines plummeted. The pandemic really knocked the stuffing out of the industry, and it just became untenable.

Why cat sitting? Gregory: After spending 30 years in the businessto-business sales world, it was quite daunting to be starting something new - and I wasn't sure what to do next. I looked at all sorts of options, including HGV driving opportunities - ultimately, though, I knew this would take me away from my family for large stretches of time, so it wasn't right for me. I wanted to do something for my family and for me. I'd long dreamt of working for myself, but the timing had never been right. Now, though, the stars were aligned.

Read This If You Unable Find A Suitable Franchise!

If you are looking to become a franchisee, you will no doubt be searching high and low for the best franchise opportunities out there! It might seem like there are endless options and your initial search probably asks more questions than gives answers, however, you are eventually going to make a ‘considered’ purchase rather than an impulse buy. Take your time, get all the facts and figures and be ready to make an informed decision when the time is right for you. Look at getting the right franchise for you, at the cost that is sustainable to you, in the sector that interests you the most, and only at a time that suits you. Never feel like you are being pushed into a certain franchise because it suits other people than you!

Buying A Franchise Is A Considered Purchase It is fair to say that a franchise has a much higher chance of success than any other business format, proven to be the case from an independent study a few years ago, which reported that in excess of 90% of franchised businesses perform compared to the industry wide reported figure of 40% of independent business not surviving beyond two years. This short report though does not suggest that everyone should be looking to buy a franchise, indeed, franchising is not for everyone! I bet you did not expect to read this from someone who is heavily involved within franchising, but it is a fair point, if anyone does get this element incorrect then it can be short term gain for long term pain, ask anyone who is already in franchising and they will tell you that nobody wins in these scanarios!

We had the immense pleasure of welcoming The Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Sabri Ozaydin, would took time out of his busy schedule to visit Cake Box and introduce himself and discuss his mayoral charity “You Are Not Alone”. This charity aims to raise money to help those experiencing difficulties and to support local NHS and Covid-19 related causes during his Mayoral year. The Mayor started his mayoral year in the midst of the worldwide pandemic. With this in the forefront of his mind, he wanted to make a difference in the community of Enfield and spread a message of love, humanity and inclusion in a time of uncertainty and great worry for the nation. His aim was to raise funds to support those who have been directly affected and also to share thanks to the many frontline workers, without whom many isolated

Wilkins Chimney Sweep franchisee wins at Scottish ex-forces business awards Kris McLernon (33) owner of the Lanarkshire franchise of Wilkins Chimney Sweep, was a winner at the 2022 Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards recently, in the ‘New Service Leaver’ category. The New Service Leaver category recognises men and women who left the military less than three years ago.

Kris left the army in April 2020 after 14 years as a recovery mechanic with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) and bought his Wilkins Chimney Sweep franchise in September 2021. At a black-tie event held at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow, Kris was announced as the winner of his category and presented with his award by Lt Col Lorne Campbell, Edinburgh Garrison Commander and ex Royal Marine, BBC presenter and Invictus Games Gold Medallist, JJ Chalmers.
