MONSOON SKIN CARE
Although you may thank the rain gods for respite from sweaty summers, your skin might not! The damp and humid weather in monsoon is bad news for all skin types. Due to the dampness in the air, fungal infections also become a common phenomenon. Men might like to think that since temperatures are cooler, it shouldn’t really affect the skin. But truth be told, rains bring with itself a whole set of problems including greasy skin, flaky itching skin and acne. Fret not as we bring you some useful skin care tips for the monsoon season. DRY SKIN You need to be more cautious in this season if you have dry skin. Dryness is a sign of dehydration and lack of skin repairing vitamins. And the problem only worsens in rainy season. Cleansing and moisturising becomes very important during monsoon. The skin care tip for handling dry skin is using a cream based cleanser and a good moisturising lotion to keep your skin healthy and nourished. Moisturiser increases the water content of the outer layers of the
26
skin and it’s always advisable to finish up the regimen by using an alcohol-free toner. OILY SKIN Summer heat is gone but facial skin tends to more oily because of the humidity or genetically determined hormonal changes. So, one must clean the face at least twice or thrice a day. Also, scrub your face thrice a week and apply a lightweight moisturiser after scrubbing. This will help unclog pores and remove dirt and grime from the skin. Don’t go overboard when cleaning your skin because too much washing stimulate skin to produce more oil. You must also wash your face with warm water because oil can be dissolves faster with warm water as opposed to lukewarm or cold water. Combination Skin This is a tricky skin type and since it combines both dry and oily skin, it should be treated as if it were two different types of skin. This is usually classified with the
T-zone as oily and the remaining portion being normal or dry. The dry area requires regular cleaning and light-weight moisturising whereas the oily part needs deep cleansing, scrubbing and toning. Monsoon skin infections Sad as it may be, skin infections, primarily bacterial and fungal infections are very common during monsoon season, which means one can get rashes, ringworm infections, skin discoloration due to UV rays from sun and sometimes-eye infections as well. The skin care tip is to use antifungal powder on all body folds to avoid infection from sweat. Also, bathe twice a day and switch to cotton fabrics as it allows your skin to breathe. Use mosquitorepellent creams to avoid infections caused from mosquito bites. The intensity of infections may vary from person to person. If the condition persists for more than a week, then visit a dermatologist immediately. TQC
