PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELVES. B: My name is Boomboom, I’m 18 and I’m a senior. M: My name is Minnie, and same as him. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER. B: For over 13 months. 13 months and 5 days to be exact! HOW DID YOU GUYS FIRST MEET? B: It was during the AP Chem lab. She was asking me questions about the lab. M: I don’t remember! WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT EACH OTHER? B: She’s nice… sometimes. And she looks cute all the time. M: His height! But most importantly how he’s willing to help me no matter what happens. WHAT ARE SOME THINGS ABOUT YOUR PARTNER THAT ANNOY YOU? B: She gets annoyed and irritated very easily. She never listens to me too. M: His fashion and all of his bad habits. He’s overprotective, likes to complain, way too talkative, and selfish too.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES? B: Our first date. It was NYE and we just sat and talked until the new year started. It was very romantic. M: When we went with a big group of friends to Pattaya. I got a bit sick, and he took care of me the whole time. IN SPIRIT OF TRIPLE T WEEK, WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO YOUNG COUPLES WHO FACE TEMPTATION? B: There are distinct boundaries you must set yourself and you must keep each other accountable. It’s perfectly fine to be in a relationship without falling into temptation. 10
THE QUILL
M: Be respectful not only of others but of your partner as well; meaning don’t get touchy in public. WHAT DOES A PERFECT DATE LOOK LIKE TO YOU? B: Having fun; preferably with the view a nice sunset and getting to know each other more.
M: ANYWHERE WITH HIM IS FINE.
WERE YOUR PARENTS ACCEPTING OF THIS RELATIONSHIP OR NOT? B: Yes, my parents didn’t really mind as long as I stayed responsible academically. M: At first, my mom didn’t want me to be in a relationship. But after meeting Boomboom, she accepted him and was okay. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER HIGHSCHOOL IF THERE ARE ANY? B: It depends on where we go. If we aren’t together, then I’ll try to meet her as often as possible. M: We’ll try to keep talking if we’re not in the same area, but we’ll see how it goes.

IS DATING IN HIGHSCHOOL HARD? IF SO, WHY? P: A bit, there’s a lot of stuff going on and work and we generally make a lot of stupid decisions during this time. K: Kind of, I guess. Obviously there’s school and senior year, which means college applications and everything. WHAT ANNOYS YOU ABOUT EACH OTHER SOMETIMES? P: She likes to not answer me or my questions. K: Sometimes he’s just too much on certain things. IF THERE IS ONE THING YOU COULD CHANGE ABOUT EACH OTHER WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE? P: Don’t scream as much. K: To stop feeding me things - I don’t eat that much

When did you first meet each other? Stephen: It all started in 8th grade. Minki: Stephen was wearing this blue shirt on the first day when Joseph introduced us. He was really short. What were your first impressions? S: Minki didn’t really like me. M: I thought Stephen was a teacher’s pet. The only class we had together was Non-Thai, so I didn’t know him very well. S: I thought Minki was okay. He thought he was kind of too cool for everybody. But he was pretty cool, so I sort of looked up to him. When did you get close? M: I think it was in 9th grade, when I

started going over to Stephen’s house to swim. It was only in 10th grade where we actually began talking about life and other deep stuff. S: Sometimes I felt like Minki was only there to use my pool, but over time we got closer. Do you have any memorable episodes that happened over the course of your friendship? M: I feel like every day is an episode. There have been too many episodes to count. S: A funny thing that does happen is that we say things at the same time a lot. M: Definitely. S: That happens a lot. M: Which is crazy.

How do you think you managed to maintain your friendship through all these years? M: Stephen and I have never fought, and we never even had any arguments. We have our differences. Well, sort of - most of the time we’re like the same person. I think the reason why we’ve been able to go so long in our friendship is because Stephen is such an understanding person. I also try to think about things in Stephen’s shoes too, rather than only considering my perspective. S: Minki’s a really understanding guy too. Also, I think just whatever we say to each other is coming from like a place of love. We’ve both come to respect each other a lot, and that helps a ton - especially when we’re really open and honest with each other, it all helps to build each other up and get closer and all that.

WHAT DOES VALENTINE’S DAY MEAN TO YOU? Valentine’s Day is obviously a pretty cool concept. I mean, people actually get flowers and love letters and stuff on that particular day, so it probably means a lot to many people. It’s a great day to appreciate your special someone. For me, though, it’s just like any other ordinary day. Last year I completely forgot what day it was until my mom asked me if I got anything. I have a pretty sad life. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A PARTNER? Honestly, I don’t know. I have no life anyways. But no, seriously, I think a good sense of humor is important to me because I’m the one who is completely quiet and bland in a relationship. I find people who can open up and talk about their thoughts pretty cool. I just like people who are honest and don’t keep their feelings to themselves. If you’re mad, show it. If you’re sad, tell me!

Are you single right now? I am very single right now. How do you feel about being single. Is it better than being in a relationship? I think being single is not a bad thing at all. I have noticed that love doesn’t have to come from a romantic relationship but perhaps good friends, family members, and even teachers. How has your dating life been? Sadly, I don’t have a dating life, and I’m not looking for anyone to date. What’s your type? I just need a girl who’s able to trust and care about me at the same time.

Do you have any advice for people actively looking for a partner? Just be loyal and think about how the other person feels if you make a mistake. Both partners must put themselves in the other’s shoes for a better understanding of each other. Do you think guys should always ask a girl out? Explain your reasons Since women want the same rights as men, shouldn’t they be responsible for asking too? What’s wrong with a woman asking a guy out? How would you describe your ideal date. My ideal date is to go to a freezing area like Russia and camp at a forest or somewhere in nature.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY? My friends say that even though I am somewhat of a crazy person, I am the “mom” of the group. Being the youngest child, I acquired my older siblings’ maturity at a younger age, and this influenced me to prefer more mature people. I enjoy being with an independent, yet inviting person, who can support me without being a burden.

IF YOU HAD A SIGNIFICANT OTHER, WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM DATE BE LIKE? Just casually hanging out with each other. WOULD YOU RATHER BE SINGLE OR TAKEN? I don’t mind being single right now because I don’t really need someone that bad. With that said, I think it would be good to have someone to rely on, encourage me and also wouldn’t distract me from pursuing my life goal: studying and exercising simultaneously.

WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A PARTNER? Well, I look for a person who I can connect with. Someone who is trustworthy, understanding and kind. Simply, somebody who I would enjoy hanging out with. WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE SOME OF YOUR BEST QUALITIES? I consider myself to have an objective view of the world. This is because I try to have my views unaffected by personal bias. Also, another great quality I have is that I am willing to make sacrifices for those who are close to me. Lastly, I value a deep relationship and seek to make them with those I interact with daily. WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT VALENTINE’S DAY? It’s entertaining to see people around you have fun. You get to watch them enjoy their lives with their significant other while you have some time for “self-reflection”. DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF TO BE A ROMANTIC? No. Not from my past experience at least. WHAT WOULD AN IDEAL DATE BE LIKE TO YOU? An ideal date for me would be something where I would enjoy my time with my significant other for the entire day. A date where we have the day together and enjoy each other’s company. DO YOU PREFER BEING SINGLE OR IN A RELATIONSHIP? Given that I haven’t been in a relationship yet, I can’t really say. However, having someone to accompany you seems entertaining and I think it would be an interesting experience.

WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING TO DO AFTER YOU GRADUATE? I always wanted to travel around the world. Since I dedicated my time to academics, I did not have an opportunity to experience a more diverse world. Particularly, I want to visit France. I’ve been studying French for years now, but I find it ironic and useless that I never had a chance to use it in my daily life, except for getting grades. DO YOU HAVE A “DATE FANTASY”? Yes, for sure. People view me as a girl who would only study and not care about guys. But as a matter-of-fact, I am still a girl who wishes to be the princess of a prince. I daydream every day about meeting my destined person, yet I quickly come back to reality with a realization that I am still a student who should fulfill my task of a student to study hard. WHAT DO YOU PRIORITIZE IN YOUR LIFE? No doubt, my family. My parents have been working hard for years after years for me to enjoy and obtain these wonderful opportunities. Not only have they been helping me with monetary issues, but also they were the ones who helped me psychologically during my hardships. I attribute my parents for my firm success so far and all of the things I am capable of doing. It is really devastating to think about moving out to an unfamiliar world without my parents. I will surely miss them. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? As surprising it may sound, I love to box. By that, I don’t mean measuring a box using dimensional weight or other “study-related” things. In fact, I love boxing and other martial arts. I have been practicing Taekwondo and recently joined Mr. Dayton’s Judo class to develop my skills further. Even though these activities do not seem to fit me a nerdy girl - there is a reason for practicing them. In the world we are living in now, there are a lot of risks that could threaten our lives, especially the weaker girls. Girls are generally weaker than guys, so it is true that we, the girls, are at a higher risk of being threatened in some manner. I do not want to be threatened or killed. To protect myself from the things that could jeopardize my life, I started learning martial arts, which, I believe, strengthened both my physical and psychological attributes.

You know you love someone when you’d cross oceans, Just seas and seas of devotion. You’d rescue them from a deserted island, The floor blanketed with miles of sand, Each grain representing your insecurity of letting them go, So you left yourself stranded, resisting to follow. That way, they won’t have to jump a single puddle, You gave them all you had, but they wanted double, And so, they sailed away, back to shore, To someone else, who they’d cross oceans for.
