Applied Learning — Continued from page 1 — “I think there’s a lot of potential here, and [that’s] the thing that I want our campus community to know,” Rogers said. “We’re here and that we’re ready to help, and we have the potential to do awesome things.” During the series of speeches, White announced the introduction of Internshop, a software program that the Center for Applied Learning will be adopting to aid students looking to find reliable and relevant internships. The program uses algorithms that pair students with particular interest fields with corresponding employers looking
for interns. Despite the evolution of the center, it has not lost the parts that students used before the move. Despite the changes, the core of what “applied learning” means has not shifted. As many in attendance reflected, the Center for Applied Learning represents a development of serving students in more meaningful ways without sacrifice anything from the transition. Rogers said she encouraged students to “not be intimidated” when visiting the center. “It’s still Toby White and Krista LaVack answering your questions the way they always have,” she said, “and we’re just going to try to do it better and more conveniently.”

College Receives Support Grant SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher has announced that the university system’s Investment and Performance Fund has awarded $4.6 million to SUNY campuses in the North Country region. The fund facilitates SUNY’s completion agenda by enabling the scale up of evidence-based campus programs to reach more students. “SUNY campuses in the North Country have a unique strength and capacity for systemness that is evident in the collaborative projects funded by these awards,” Zimpher said. “Whether it is reaching out to former SUNY students to help them return and finish their degree or ensuring that current students are prepared for career success through SUNY’s first Center for Applied Learning, the North Country initiatives are a remarkable sample of what the Investment and Performance Fund
is accomplishing for our students.” From these monies, SUNY Potsdam will receive $750,000 to support SUNY’s first Center for Applied Learning. This will expand the research, development, testing and implementation of applied learning in collaboration with colleges and universities throughout SUNY. “SUNY Potsdam is grateful to have our leadership on applied learning — as the first campus within the State University of New York to found a dedicated center for high-impact learning experiences-recognized with such significant support from the SUNY Investment and Performance Fund,” said President Kristin G. Esterberg. “This funding will allow us to build scalability, so that models of success for applied learning can be developed here at Potsdam and replicated throughout the system.”
