“The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life.� William Morris This lookbook documents the work of my second semester of my third year at the Australian National University School of Art. In this collection I am inspired by the movement captured in the silhouettes of trees and the patterns created by branches when foliage disappears in Autumn and Winter. Placement prints have provided the freedom to create a range of different designs and translate large ink drawings and artworks into garments, encompassing the themes of movement and intricate patterns in nature. Organic curves and circles are continually manifested in these garments as they depict the way I look up at the sky through the overlapping trees. When translated into a garment they flow naturally, their movement on the body reflecting movements in nature. Natural fibres are important in this work as I am echoing the raw characteristics of my subject. Printing onto sheer well-draping fabrics provides a sense of shadowing and layering and when worn on the body moves with the wearer. I have introduced wool and knitted viscose fabric in this collection for the qualities of drape and warmth. I believe good design and beautiful art should be able to be celebrated by all in an everyday context. In this collection I hope to create a romantic link between the wearer and nature.
