Texas Wesleyan University Student Development Fund

Deeply Disturbed by the current state of the Texas Wesleyan University Student Development Fund, hereby referred to as “The Fund,” including, the lack of a coherent process, insufficient publicity of the Fund, the absence of a full student board, and overall unproductivity, Concerned about the current discontinuation of funding of student activities, including but not limited to conferences, events, and scholarships, Bearing in Mind the fact that over ten (10) weeks have passed since the establishment of the Student Development Fund with minimal to no apparent progress, Urged by multiple students, staff, and faculty members to seek a solution, and Confident that the Texas Wesleyan University Administration, hereby referred to as “Administration,” will regard this issue with great importance and take action in an appropriate and timely manner, Be it hereby resolved that the SGA: 1.
Compels the direct supervisor(s) of The Fund to revise the online eligibility and application process with special emphasis on the following items, a. Investigation of why, per the outlines criteria, graduate students are not eligible for The Fund, b. Revision of the ambiguous and repetitive description between “Summary of Funding Use” and “Use of Funds Statement,” c. Revision of the current rubric to be reflective of the mission of The Fund and the Texas Wesleyan University mission.

Oblige the supervisor(s) to immediately cease any deliberation on applications with the absence of a full student board;

Asks that a full student board is immediately assembled to begin proper review and deliberation on student applications, a. SGA is given the money until the previous recommendations are completed. Recommends that the student board be made of students who are selected using the process below, a. University advertises the vacant positions on the board to the student body for at least a week, b. Student interested are encouraged to apply through an online application constructed by Student Affairs, c. Interviews are conducted by Student Affairs staff and faculty members to select qualified students to serve on the board, d. The student board be made up of at least 4 members, from different majors and classifications. Requires the Administration, in conjunction with Student Affairs, to initiate strong campus-wide publicity of the Fund through any or all of the following, a. Send campus-wide email to all registered students, b. Create print and online advertisement posters to be published on all campus billboards and social media sites, c. Employ a special Advisement in the University newspaper, The Rambler.
