PINNACLE
Best of the best high school seniors celebrated The Record
he pages of this special section are filled with portraits and names of the highest-achieving high school seniors in San Joaquin and Calaveras counties. Many are naturally gifted learners. Others excel through pure determination. All of them are hard workers who put in hours of study while finding balance with other, non-academic areas of life. And all of them have more
to their résumés and academic profiles than just good grades. Some are musicians. Others are athletes. And there are those who have worked on social justice issues or political campaigns. Yet, they have a sense that the world is bigger than they are but they can help determine its course. They are looking not only beyond high school but beyond themselves. They are, truly, the pinnacle of success for the Class of 2016.
This is the 21st year The Record, working with the San Joaquin County Office of Education and the University of the Pacific, has honored a select group of students from San Joaquin and Calaveras counties with its Pinnacle Award winners and a second group of Distinguished Students. The 91 Pinnacle students are the top 1 percent of the collective Class of 2016; the 286 Distinguished students make up the next 2 percent.
The 2016 Pinnacle team was honored May 3 with a reception at the DeRosa University Center Ballroom at Pacific. The honorees have been recognized for their achievements in three areas: academics, extra-curricular activities, and citizenship/ community service. Certificates in both categories are presented by The Record at students' awards ceremonies. Most of these students area already preparing for
their entry into college this fall. Many will achieve even greater things ahead. They are likely to become tomorrow's leaders, tomorrow's volunteers, tomorrow's voters. This special section is dedicated to what they have already achieved. We honor their commitment to learning and their outstanding careers as high school students. And we look forward to the accomplishments they have yet to achieve.
