Reple triumphs in UPC 2023

The Reflection, the official student publication of the School of Education, Holy Angel University, garnered five awards from the recent University Press Conference 2023 (UPC), held on March 8-9 at the Peter G. Nepomuceno Building.

The UPC is a two-day journalism competition between HAU’s college publications, with the theme, “Defend Press Freedom: Strengthening Campus Journalism as a Catalyst for Social Change.” The first day was the competition proper while the second day was the awarding ceremony.

The Reflection brought home a total of five awards. Three Reple staffers were recognized individually for their outstanding performance in their respective categories. Kyrylle Jane Ocampo, Marae Yvonne Felicity Gueco, and Leah Amor Manalo won the Champion awards in the categories of News, Literary, and Sports Writing, respectively.

The staffers' combined efforts also earned them a group award for Collaborative Desktop Publishing, where they secured the 2nd runner-up spot. The said award was given to the team of Mary Joyce Dizon, Michaela Noreen Elizalde, Jessale Joie Pandato, Rinards Pamintuan, and Louie Rey Villegas. Aside from the individual and group awards, The Reflection also brought home one major award: Overall 2nd Runner-up.

The other representatives are Rachel Rodriguez for Photojournalism, John Michael David for Editorial Cartooning and Humor, and Trisha Denise Dimabuyu for Science and Technology.

The Angelite, the official student publication of Holy Angel University, spearheaded this year’s competition. The Reflection took part in the UPC alongside other college publications namely The Access Point, The Enterprise, The Nexus, and The Solution.
