Pre-service teachers upbeat
BY LOUIE REY VILLEGAS
opeful for a relevant practicum setup, the majority of the graduating SEd students expressed their eagerness for an in service practice teaching experience next semester.
In a survey conducted by The Reflection last September 15, 2022, the majority of the 94 Field study students want to have Face to Face practice teaching next semester primarily because they want to be trained well and experience extensive teaching in the outside world.
Most of the reasons stated by the students who prefer face to face practice teaching are because they want to learn how to interact with the students because face to face schooling is gradually coming back
Joan Aquino, a Science major student said, “Although I'm having a little difficulty in having the necessary gadgets to be used both online and face to face, I still want to experience face to face practice teaching. I believed that it will give me much in depth training on how to be a teacher.”
The rest of the students either prefer online or are torn between the 2 modes of practice teaching considering their unpreparedness in teaching after having been locked in their homes for the past 2 years.
An English major student, who requested anonymity said, “I am not yet confident with my teaching skills. We've been stuck in an online teaching setting for 2 years. Shifting to face to face practice teaching may hone my skills and expertise. It is a bit nerve wracking and a lot of adjustments, but I think this is for the best if the situation will allow a face to face class.”
The students were also asked how was their face to face observation so far and most of them said that they are having fun but it is quite exhausting. Students are however slowly adjusting to this setup.
Despite this, a Bachelor of Physical Education student expressed her thoughts about the extent of what they are learning in the observation. She said, “It is so much better than online

observation. Our face to face observation is different from the online setup. Online setup is more on the discussion of the lesson/topic. But in face to face classes, the students were just given a task or activity and the teacher is not discussing anymore. As a student teacher, the way how the resource teacher teaches the students is the one that we should be really observing for us to learn how to discuss a certain topic/lesson.
The 4th ed their face Scheduled date last September 5 9, 2022. But when they were asked about their preparedness, students were divided into 3 answers: 35.9% were ready, 18.4% are not, and 45.6% of them are still not sure.
In an interview with Dr. Alma M. Natividad, the Dean of the School of Education, she revealed that the decision for the face to face practice teaching would be according to the schedule of the Junior
High School and Senior High School Departments of Holy Angel University whereas the students majoring in Special Needs Education will still have their face to face practice teaching outside the campus premises.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Holy Angel University, SEd council, orgs, and fellow Angelites!”
Further to that, Sean Valencia, an aspiring Filipino teacher stated, “It actually felt like my first day of school. I was so excited because after many years of quarantine I have never been into a lot of interactions with my classmates. It was very fun!”
The organization that participated in the said event are the Association of General Education Students (AGES), Education Mathematics Club (EMC), Human Kinetics Society (HKS), Inclusive Education Society (IES), Kapisanan ng mga Mag aaral sa Filipino (KAMFI), League of English Language Teachers (LELT), Scienzophiliacs (SCIENZO), Society of Empowered Religious and Values Educators (SERVE), The Social Studies Circle (TSSC). The Reflection also presented its AVP but is not a participant in the AVP competition.
TSSC, KAMFI commemorate history, language month
BY LEAH AMOR MANALO
The Social Studies Circle (TSSC) and Kapisanan ng mga Mag aaral sa Filipino (KAMFI) celebrated Philippine history and the Filipino language by conducting a two part webinar, on August 31.
With the theme, “Kabaldugan, Pagsisid sa Yaman ng Kasaysayan at Kalinangan,” said event of the two SEd organizations had a total of 70 attendees via Zoom.
The organizers pulled off a roundtable discussion together with the three significant speakers namely, Noriel C. Navita, Mr. Joel S. Regala, and Karlo S. Tolentino who talked about fake news, historical distortions, and nation building.
Furthermore, the topics discussed were concerned with the current situation in which most Filipino citizens rely on opinion and one of the trending issues of actress Ella Cruz’ s statement about histor. It was the statement in which she compared history to a "chismis," that further sparked various opinions and disappointed historians.
The speakers also challenged the attendees to be careful and competent in teaching history and social studies so the students can learn more and break the stereotype that these subjects are “boring”.
“
As a future teacher, you should give the guide I must admit, it’s very challenging. Ang hirap magturo ngayon ng social studies kase, in the face of disinformation. Unlike before, nagtuturo isang version lang. So if kung tinuro mo yan, that's what you get. But now, because of this misinformation and historical distortion, medyo mahirap siyang ituro. So, malaki ang hamon diyan.”, said Navita.
[As a future teacher, you should give the guide I must admit, it's very challenging. It's hard to teach social studies today because, of
disinformation. Unlike before, only one version is taught. So if you teach that, that's what you get. But now, because of this misinformation and historical distortion, it is quite difficult to teach. So there is a big challenge there.]
In the second part of the webinar, a discussion led by Nestor C. De Guzman, an educator, and expert in Kapampangan and Filipino languages, spoke about “Ugnayang Wika at Kultura sa Pagtuklas at Paglikha”.
The main point of. De Guzman’s talk was that Kapampangan, once the unique language in the Philippines, is now slowly fading away due to a lack of use, posing a serious threat to culture and identity.
He also argued, how can we defend our culture if it is not being taught in our schools. “So isipin niyo na lang, kung walang wika paano natin maeexpress yung mga kulturang ito at mga paniniwala natin?”
[So just think, if there is no language, how can we express these cultures and our beliefs?]
In addition, the webinar became entertaining as he set some examples and thoroughly discussed the Kapampangan language, and joked about the missing and additional letter “H” whenever the Kapampangans speak.
For De Guzman, the social effect of language can eventually lead to the extinction of culture and tradition, and before the talk ended, he left a quote for everyone stating, “Save a language to preserve a culture.”
The webinar concluded with a discussion that if we don’t want our native language to vanish, we must use it in our everyday situations because our culture is inclined to the language we use.

The first batch assisted the children during the confirmation practice last Oct. 15, 8 11 am. Then, the last batch served during the actual sacrament of confirmation, which took place on Nov. 5, 1 3:30 p.m.
The children who were about to be confirmed were grouped based on their schools and were provided with name tags. The confirmation was commemorated together with the bishop.
Along with the catechists were the three Theology professors namely, Lorna Tyson, Rowena B. Sibal, and Maylin Bayza who also assisted during the event. The children were also guided by their parents and sponsors.
In an interview, Joemar Wells, the President of the Society of Empowered Religious and Values Educator (SERVE), shared how the program became a success. He said, “We have a continuous contact with the church we are assigned, and we are always updated on what will happen at the event. Then all the days we are teaching children are well organized. We taught the children smoothly and no problems occurred.”
Wells also shared how his experience reminded him of his former adviser who made him realize that being a catechist is worth it. He stated that the said experience is life changing because it motivated him to continue his catechism up to this point in his second year.
The Catechists participated in an one hour general orientation last Oct. 14 at the second floor of the Sr. Josefina G. Nepomuceno Formation Center where they tackled their program. Second year Eduk students were initially divided into three groups. Unfortunately, the second batch joined Batch 3 due to the weather conditions during their schedule.

Sean Andrei Valencia from freshmen and Estine Regine De Jesus of friendship and the crown inside the department. She said, “Life is full of uncertainty, I did not expect to be the next Ms. SEd because I am there to enjoy and use the practice, photoshoot, training, and the pageant proper as a ground for me to open new friendships and get to know other people inside SEd. In addition, my co candidates also fight for the crown vigorously. Honestly, I lose hope and competitiveness in competing because the week before the pageant I got sick and my body cannot respond well; therefore, I cannot be able to attend my training in terms of my pasarela and talent portion. But, thank God, before the pageant, I gained the strength and brought back the energy I needed to represent my house, Braille.”
Besides the crown, De Jesus also brought home some minor awards namely, best in talent, best in casual (Teacher) Wear, and best in Formal
She competed with other candidates namely Leah Amor Manalo and Girlie Villanueva who served as the first and second runner ups, respectively. Manalo also brought home minor awards namely, best in advocacy and Ms. Photogenic.
On the other hand, Valencia, the Mr. SEd 2022 also brought home the following awards: Best in Talent, Best in Advocacy, Best in Casual (teacher) wear, and Best in formal wear.
Valencia, a neophyte to pageantry, also did not expect to win the competition. But with his eagerness to explore new things, he decided to take the chance and gladly won the competition.
In his Facebook post, he stated how the pageant boosts his confidence and why teacher education students are not just Education students He said, “Despite these titles that I have won, I believe that the most valuable award that was given to me is the experience. This is an experience that I consider a stepping stone in boosting my confidence in my career in teaching. These awards are a manifestation of not just the combined blood, sweat, and tears of the people around me, but also of hope, dedication, and service. I intend to use this title to persuade my fellow Eduk students about the lesson that I've learned in this venture, which is to aspire to inspire. Let me tell you frankly, HindiKaEdukLang!.”
Rafael Bienedict Ocampo and Dave Semsem won as the first and second runner ups, respectively. Ocampo was also acknowledged as the Mr. Photogenic.

OWLS ARE BACK!
SEd days celebrated in campus after 2-year hiatus
BY KYRYLLE OCAMPO AND RACHEL RODRIGUEZ
For the first time since the lockdown brought by the pandemic, the School of Education (SEd) of Holy Angel University lighted up the stages, virtual rooms, and campus grounds in celebration of the SEd’s College Days, Oct. 19 21.
The three day event has its year’s theme, “ECLAIRE: Dawn in Traversing New Grounds for the Next Rays of Future Educations,” and is composed of different competitive and participatory activities.
This paved the way for three great houses Lumiere, Flambeau, and Braille to compete in various competitions. The official SED days of 2022 started with an online salvo titled “Voyage Lumineux.”
On the first two days, October 19 20, virtual competitions were held via Zoom Conferences and the HAU SED Student Council's Facebook page, beginning with the online publicity material making
competitions (REKINDLE), TikTok competitions (AMELIORER), and audio visual competitions (CONQUISTADOR). These were accompanied by participatory events like Online Kumustahan and Zoom Bonding sessions participated by Eduk students, faculty, and alumni.
In line with the virtual celebrations, Eduk students had their first ever face to face activities on the third and final day of SED Days, October 21. Talaturus graced the morning with loud chants and cheers as they paraded around campus, preceded by participatory events like Zumba, Amazing Races, Laro ng Lahi, as well as competitive events such as Ball games (Ballon D’or: Clash of the Educators), Eduk’s Got Talent, and Mr. and Ms. SEd (La Bella Magnifico), held in the Immaculate Heart Gym and HAU’s Covered Court.
The night will not be settled without the future educators gracing themselves with furbish and a
black & white attire in celebrating the OWL'S NIGHT: Culminating Activity wherein a set of awards were given in every event category of the SED Days from online to face to face competitions. The houses of Lumiere, Flambeau, and Braille give their shoutouts and pull out their competitiveness to their team as they receive their awards gleefully and with honor to their houses.
There are also a set of performances happening including the frisky production of the School of Education Student Council in honor of the SED Days event, to the faculty, and to their fellow future educators.
With all the extra miles of each house and students, the night was finally concluded with the magnificent and superb House of Braille being hailed as the overall champion, whilst House of Flambeau won being the 2nd place, and House of Lumiere being 3rd place.

be the children's future hands and paths. The student teacher is the next person who will shed light on students. But since quality education is important, how can a student teacher provide a quality education given the setback they experienced in an online class?
Some aspiring educators lack the necessary expertise. It is disappointing to discover that the lack of alternatives for online learning has left some prospective educators deficient in knowledge, abilities, and other assets because there is a slim chance of gaining appropriate knowledge given the sparse interaction in online classes. It is not a lie that online learning will provide endowments, particularly in technological competence to be a suitable future educator. Unfortunately, the problem is that the knowledge of student teacher obtained in an online class is inferior to the knowledge

they acquired in a face to face class. According to Saricoban, “the first problem in teaching is the student teachers need to perform certain teaching skills that they are lacking”. So student teachers can not fully employ the necessary teaching techniques if an online class. UNICEF for Children also stated that another disadvantage of online learning is that "Students are not acquiring real, long Student teachers are still students who need to be honed in a better way. It is essential that they have sufficient expertise to give the quality that every child deserves.
In addition to that, the future of education is not lined up with online classes. Student teachers are not adequately equipped to teach in person due to a lack of experience. No one will hide that student teachers are qualified and competent enough to teach effectively in an online environment, but still, the experience in person that they must learn is one of the keys to becoming a better future teacher. Young Education Professionals said on their website titled “Why Do Teachers Need to Have Experience?”, that “A teacher who has more experience in the classroom is more effective because she has had extended time to test procedures and lessons on several cohorts of students”. Demo teaching, discussions, observations, and other activities for student teachers must be done in person for them to avoid culture shock as well as experience the real world situations that will help them learn and develop. We have all been stockpiled for several years which makes us not experience a personal class session and several activities. So we need to already have a face to face class, especially the graduating students since they have to learn enough regarding classroom management first hand. The online setup hinders their chances of becoming competent teachers who can really understand and manage their classes well. Therefore, students must also have face to face classes not only for their laboratory classes. They also deserve a kind of teaching that will help them reach their highest potential.
Aside from that, student teachers need physical experience because they will need it to learn how to
communicate effectively with their students to leave a lasting impression and impart transformative learning. In an interview with CNN Philippines, one of Teach for the Philippines' advocacy members remarked, "if our teacher fellows look into one single eye, this student would know that my teacher has personal connection to me”. One of the most important skills that every teacher should possess is interpersonal skills because communicating with students will promote a positive learning environment and student achievement. Nevertheless, student teachers will not fully acquire these abilities because communication on online platforms is difficult.
By no means do think we think fresh graduates are underqualified. We just believe that the dynamics between managing both online and f2f classes are very different. However, we understand that newly graduated education teachers will never adjust properly unless they teach f2f classes. But as for the rest of the education students, they should be given the chance to have f2f classes in order to aid in the adjustments of both teachers and students for the future. A face to face setting allows students to study effectively, communicate with their instructors to explain concepts, and engage in physical activities to help them learn and grow. Yes, education students during online classes are most likely equipped and have sufficient competence to teach well in an online setting. But still, they are not genuinely gaining knowledge because the online setting limits them with experience in a real classroom scenario.
Students should have equal opportunities to learn. Yes, it is hard to keep up with the current learning setup but we have to step up and fight for our right to quality education. We also deserve to go back to school just like those students in the public schools. We also deserve to take our courses and learn what we cannot learn in the online learning modality just like the students from other departments and colleges.
To shed light on others, these student teachers must also get light from others. Student teachers are one of the keys in saving education in our country. Thus, for them to become a good help in the education sector, they must learn in a traditional learning set up because online learning is detrimental to them. Face to face classes in both minor and major subjects must be held physically, not just for those who use laboratories. Students are accountable for their own learning but the education department is also somehow accountable for how the students will use their highest potential.
Women are bound by a chain that serves as justification to live in the shadow of rights. Society's treatment and viewpoints of several women are incredibly substandard, which is a deeply unpleasant fact. However, the outdated manual of society's disapproving attitudes toward women must be obliterated permanently. It must be remembered that a woman can bloom with power. Each of us is free to act morally and ethically in accordance with our own moral and ethical principles. Gender is only a physical characteristic that identifies each individual. Nevertheless, as each person is endowed with equal rights, gender has no effect on a person's abilities. But, how come women face gender inequity and discrimination at the hands of some humans who are gender stereotypes?
During the early times, women were subjected to unequal treatment. They were limited to performing tasks as males. Gladly, society today has become more open in inviting and accepting females in doing the job of males. However, the majority of wom-
RINARDS PAMINTUAN
en still consistently face unfair treatment in the workplace due to sex discrimination. In Republic Act No. 6725 Discrimination Against Woman, it says “Favoring a male employee over a female employee with respect to promotion, training opportunities, study and scholarship grants solely on account of their sexes”. It indicates in this law that women shouldn't be put down by men, especially when it comes to employment. We must change some Filipinos' perceptions that women need to stay and serve at home because they wear a crown of strength and power. Women have the right to pursue work in any field they want because they can shine like stars.
Aside from that, some women face violence at the hands of men because some men believe that women are
weak to the point that they will abuse them below the belt. According to Gustavo Gonzalez, “In the Philippines, where 73 million Filipinos or some 67 percent of the population use social media, the internet is a platform for cybercriminals preying on women and young people”. Some women suffer violent abuse, particularly on the internet because some males exploit their power to abuse and destroy every woman's crown. The idea that "women are weak" needs to be disproved and eradicated forever since they are not weak and hold a level of power. Remember, women can fight back and stand up just to raise their flag and protect their rights.
In addition, women are highly valuable in the world because they can make anything easier. Junie del Mun-

do once said, “Having more women in power will not only minimize the gender gap and eliminate bias. It will also pave the way for the government to serve the public better, especially the disenfranchised. Holding up the sky is a massive undertaking, but the job becomes easier when we let more women pitch in.” Women can do whatever men can do, thus they can be a tremendous help to the world. Women are women because they are the world's pearls symbolizing confidence, prestige, and personal strength that can give worth to everything while also making the world a better place.
Moreover, let us open our eyes and not forget the prominent females, particularly in the Philippines, who have tremendously contributed to the country's growth and development, such as Former Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Risa Hontiveros, Hidilyn Diaz, and Maria Ressa, who have given pride to the country. One of the pieces of evidence where we can prove that women can stand up and can play an active role to help Filipinos is also spurred on by Atty. Leni Robredo's Angat Buhay. It is a non profit and non governmental organization that aims to promote an all encompassing and integrated strategy for combating poverty. It is clear that
Atty. Robredo's significant contributions to the Philippines are commendable.
In a manner similar to former vice president Leni Robredo, senator Risa Hontiveros, a sitting senator with more than 11 years of experience in Congress is a prime example of how a woman can make a significant impact in dealing with a pressing issue of the Filipino people. Senator Risa authored numerous historic laws regarding mental health, healthcare, women, children, and people with disabilities, such as Senate Bill No. 1345, often known as the Philippine Mental Health Bill.
Don’t be chill, the woman's power does not end there because the spotlight in sports isn't just for men. Remember, women can also win sports. Therefore, who said only men can lift weights? Hidilyn Diaz, who became the first weightlifting gold medalist for the Philippines at the Olympics, is one of the women who caught the public's attention. Diaz has strengthened the power of a woman's skill as she reached the Women’s 55 kg division in 2021. Furthermore, women can also write as clearly proven by Maria Ressa, a well known journalist in the Philippines who opened everyone's eyes to the fact that
women can be the voice and eye of the Filipino with truth. Ressa was included in Time's 2018 Person of the Year, which featured a group of journalists from around the world who are actively battling fake news.
These women greatly impacted our country in terms of the economy rising, uplifting the lives of the poor, giving pride to the country, and spreading the truth. The women's banner is on fire because it shows and gives a fist sized slap of realization that they have equal power over everyone. So, despite all of the evidence, are some individuals still prejudiced against women?
Gender is merely a physical identity for everyone, but it should not be a barrier to everyone's rights. Gender stereotypes must be burned and washed away by water for the betterment. Therefore, the Philippines must treat women with respect and uphold both equality and humanity because, without these principles, the country will struggle to cope. The chains of negative society on the woman's neck must be free. Unlock the chain and door to let in the light of liberty, equality, and prosperity because no one is free until women are free.
The Horizon PHILIPPINE EDUCATION UNDER RENOVATION

The school year 2022 2023 started with a bang as students are finally back on campus after almost 3 years of distance learning due to the pandemic. As of August 2022 this year, there are more than 28 Million recorded enrollees in public and private schools to attend classes. However, there are still schools in the country that will implement remote or distance learning. The opening of classes this year undoubtedly received harsh criticisms as they shout for a call of ‘unpreparedness’ despite not being vacated for more than two school years. The gaps, issues, and challenges in Philippine education have always remained unchecked. From the lack of classrooms to the shortage of textbooks and teachers. More and more are still emerging, as if they will never come to an end. At this rate, there is for sure an urgent need to reopen the schools as the students “learn lesser” with the current learning setup. As the Vice President and secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) have mentioned, “We can no longer keep COVID 19 as an excuse to keep our children from schools,” but are the schools really ready?
First phase of learning the venue
The transfer of knowledge in schools happens inside a classroom. This serves as the second home of the students. But what if they reached school without their homeroom? Where are they going to attend classes? The opening of the academic year 2022 2023 remarkably showed a lack of 91,000 classrooms. In addition to that, the 40:1 ratio is not also followed. Currently, there are classrooms that fit 68 students in a classroom. With the risks of the COVID 19 pandemic, that is not an ideal number for the health protocols will not be followed. To address the issue, the government opted to conduct shifting classes, which is undeniably the best supplementary when there is an infrastructure shortage. However, will the students learn what they ought to learn in a given short period? In addition, DepEd is partnering with the private sectors and LGUs to use basketball courts and tents to serve as temporary classrooms. Are these places conducive enough to promote learning? Should there not be distractions when classes are taken outside the school premises?
Second phase of learning the materials
The list of what is lacking with the opening of the school goes on, with the next salient ingredient in teaching the students. Learning resources and materials have been an unending issue in the education sector in the Philippines. Some schools still have a ratio of 2:1 when it comes to textbooks. This hinders students from acquiring knowledge as they have shifting schedules when it comes to textbooks. Recently, there has also been an issue regarding the “shortage” of armchairs in a school in Manila where the students are seen sitting on the floor. This viral issue was then backed up by the school principal stating that they have sufficient chairs since they borrowed from the neighboring school, and that the students seen are only doing a school activity. Meanwhile, accepting that reason, if they do not have a shortage of armchairs, why did they borrow in the first place?
Third phase of learning the teacher
The teaching and learning process will not happen without the main source of knowledge and facilitator of learning, which is the teacher. This year’s opening of classes also shows how some schools in the country face a shortage of teachers. This is proven by the principal of a school located in Negros Occidental stating that they stopped accepting students due to their teaching force is not enough to cater the students. Moreover, the teacher shortage in schools is a serious wound that greatly affects the quality of learning in the country. If a teacher will handle more than the normal student quota, there is a huge possibility that the focus will not be given sufficiently to students. Not only that, public school teachers already accept more workloads and handle more students than the expected ratio. Some teachers exceed the limit of handling 6 sections having 40 students in a class only. Just imagine the extra papers and school reports they have to accomplish considering their minimum salary grade is still stuck on salary grade 11 (Teacher 1 ₱25,439).
Despite the numerous challenges in the field of education, Duterte seems to be focused on eyeing mandatory military
service among students. According to her, in doing so, ‘… we can develop Filipino youths who will persevere to reach their full potential as individuals,’ which is not what we need during these times and as a country that does not regularly engage in wars, unlike countries who mandate the military training such as South Korea and Israel. There are plenty of gaps that should be focused on rather than training the students to become “disciplined” through mandatory ROTC. It seems that the abovementioned circumstances did not bother the secretary at all, considering the country even ranked lowest among 79 countries in Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) where 15 year old students failed reading comprehension, mathematics, and science assessments in 2018. Should the department really focus on the things that do not contribute to the growth of the students? Does strengthening them improve the quality of education in the country? Hopefully, these questions can make people reflect on whether to agree or not to the mandated ROTC.
Opening of classes should be fun and full of excitement on the part of the students, but if these challenges will welcome them for the school year it will be difficult to determine how they will feel. As Vladimer Quetua, The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) chairperson mentioned, “The most basic needs so that classes can be conducted classrooms, chairs, and teachers are poorly met,” was intensely felt in different schools in the country.
If we are to inspect even the narrowest road and streets around the country, emerging challenges will still occur that is concerned with the welfare of the students. Undeniably, after 2 years of isolation, the students deserve better treatment and let them feel excited again about going back to school. How will they be eager to learn and become the learners of the 21st century everyone expects them to be if these problems coexist in the field of education? These are just some of the factors that the government should look up to if they want to promote “quality education” and expect that the students will perform well in class.

“The decision of PBBM is clearly an insult towards the health professionals who spent years just to be able to work in a medical field. But more than the expertise, how dare they appoint someone who authored Oplan Tokhang under the Duterte Administration? The DOH undersecretary should be someone who has respect for human’s life by protecting their health and safety. They should appoint someone who truly cares and are ready to face the demands of the health workers and the rest of the Filipino people.”
Mary Joyce Dizon
“I think this is just deja vu, appointing a leader who doesn't have experience in a specific field. I can say that I feel sorry, especially for health workers, that the undersecretary has no knowledge of management regarding health. They are neglected, considering that someone who holds a high position in DOH is a former PNP chief. Also, I am concerned for my fellow Filipinos and wonder how they will be assured that health and safety can be achieved in their lives under this type of management.”

What is your take with the move of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. of appointing Cascolan as DOH undersecretary?
“I am against the appointment of Camilo Cascolan as the DOH undersecretary. Doctors and other medical professionals took years to master their chosen profession and be good at it. How can we let someone lead the Health Department of our country without any experience with health matters?
I agree with what the Akbayan said, this is “not a job for amateurs and first timers." We are still under Covid 19 and haven't yet fully recovered to it. How can a former general lead us to the right path in this battle? A battle where guns, grenade cannot be used to win, but a competent person with years of experience is what we need.“
We have all witnessed how the world, specifically our country changed in terms of technology, fashion, economy, and politics over the years. I am not born yesterday so I can tell how the country changes depending not only because of its countrymen but also because of the government that handles it.
Not long ago, the decision of the concerned law enforcers was made to keep the Philippines safe from terrorists. Or maybe it is their way to make them safe from the woke netizens? Students, especially the little ones, are taught in School to be honest. Plenty of the students grew up with the saying, “Honesty is the best policy”. Even though some of them did not finish their studies, their integrity is what they can be proud of.
But how come those people who have a profession and who are educated seem to find it hard to stand for the truth? Witnesses are always asked to tell the truth, especially in the courtroom. Then we have the media who is ready to always speak for the truth, but they are being shut down for some reason.
“I don't believe that the DOH will benefit from or be able to make a sensible choice by choosing a retired law enforcement officer. For the welfare of the citizens of our nation, the position of undersecretary should go to someone well known and knowledgeable in the field of health.”
Two years ago, on the 3rd of July 2022, the Anti Terrorism Bill was passed by the 18th Congress and signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte. After 15 days, July 18, marked a day of anguish for many Filipinos. According to the Republic Act No. 11479, Section 2, the Anti Terrorism Law has declared the State's policy to defend life, liberty, and property against terrorism. It is to condemn terrorism as hostile to the country's national security and the welfare of its people. It is also to make terrorism a crime against the people, humanity, and the Law of Nations. Unfortunately, the same law that has been protecting the people is the same policy that destroys, and worst takes the life, of the people who just want to speak the truth all along. The truth that they did not just hear but witnessed with their own eyes.
And you know what? I sincerely condemned how we are all asked not to call out the trash that we are witnessing in their governance. If the television artists who just want to give entertainment to their viewers are being called out for what they do, why do you expect people not to call out the dirty works of the people inside the government? These so called leaders should not only be listening to us but should also serve us in the most transparent and safe ways.

Anti Terrorism Law is like a cage that does not allow the people to actually speak for themselves and for their fellow Filipinos because it can red tag them. Then, here are some of the policemen from the Philippine National Police who are being a puppet to the government. It is disappointing that some of them who should be protecting the people are protecting their image in the face of the higher officials instead. We cannot deny that society’s mindset over policemen as a hero had already changed so long ago especially ever since the start of Extrajudicial killings where some of them are falsifying evidence to justify the killings in the “ war on drugs”.
Now, the group of people that are once declared a hero is the ones who are acting like a villain in this society. Then the teacher can now be victims and tagged as territories just by teaching and fighting for the rights of the students with Education.
WHO DO WE BLAME FOR THIS?
In early 2022, on February 24, people have been crying for justice for the New Bataan 5 who were mercilessly killed by the military. Two of the five victims were volunteer Lumad teachers namely Chad Booc and Jurain Ngujo. These were teachers who had to ensure the quality education of the indigenous people despite their unfortunate situation. These were brave volunteers who offered their lives for the youth, given the perceived dangers and risks.
Dr. Raquel Fortun, a Pathologist expert, revealed that the military already had the intention to kill the five victims. In an interview with the Inquirer, Fortun said, “There was an intent to kill. They sustained multiple gunshot wounds and on top of that, it looks like many things are being concealed.” Fortun stressed that there should have been an automatic investigation because of the violent incident but none was conducted. Fortun was puzzled by the absence of information surrounding Booc and his colleagues' deaths. She claimed there was no trace of information as to where the supposed encoun-
EMPTY PROMISES
BY JOHN MICHAEL DAVID jodavid@student.hau.edu.ph
Promised pay hike for teachers is withheld.
Teachers are one of the most vital roles to be played in society. They hone our future engineers, doctors, policemen and many more, yet compared to other profession they have one of the lowest salaries where Teacher I only gets P25,439 per month, Nurses P35,097, and a Patrolman from Philippine National Police (PNP) gets P29,668. You can argue that nurses and policemen keep people safe and healthy thus they should be paid more. However, considering that teachers teach lessons, make lesson plans, get buried in paperworks, and they are tasked to ensure their students develop properly. It is not that teachers earn less compared to other professions, they just have a low salary in general. All is good though as it was promised that Public Teachers would be getting a raise by the start of next year (2023) or so we thought.
During the election period the now elected President Marcos has made a promise to raise the salary of public teachers by 2023. Finally giving justice to the hardships and effort our teachers go through to educate the future of our society. This was promised alongside fixing any problems we have when it comes to our education system. Promises that have not shown any signs of coming to fruition. Surely these promises were made with a plan in mind right? Or were they empty? simply colorful words just to sway the votes of the people.
Vice President and current Education Secretary Sara Duterte has shown some reluctance when it comes to raising the salary of public teachers. During the House Committee on Appropriations' hearing on the proposed P710 billion budget of the Department of Education in 2023, on September 14, 2022. She stated that raising the salary of public school teachers will only force or pressure private school teachers to migrate to the public sector. Her concern is that this exodus of private teachers will then result in private schools shutting down. While of course there is some truth to this, however this does not change
ter occurred nor how the dead were discovered at the crime scene.
The spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Colonel Ramon Zagala said that a few members of the NPA surrendered and witnessed the participation and involvement of Booc in 2010. Brigadier General Jesus Durante III, commander of the Army's 1001st Infantry Brigade, also insisted that all five dead were members of the NPA's Southern Mindanao Regional Committee's Regional Operations Command. However, the Save Our Schools (SOS) Network, a nongovernmental organization that provides non formal education to indigenous peoples' communities, revealed that Booc and his companions were on their way back to Davao City after visiting a community in New Bataan.
Villagers also testified that there was no clash between the military and the NPA in Barangay Andap, New Bataan town on February 4, the day that the five were murdered. Even to this day, the root causes remain unclear and concealed from people’s eyes. But one thing is for sure, what happened to them is a case of homicide.
In the middle of the fight against the Education crisis, these teachers who we see as consistent heroes were killed just for dedicating their time to our fellow Filipinos who live in a place and a situation where Education is out of reach. Who do we blame for this? Who should be accountable for their lives? Who should be accountable for the Philippines losing dedicated teachers?
More questions ran through my head. Why they did not let those teachers teach? Why don’t they just listen and address the issues that people are calling on them to fix in the Education system? There is just one answer that I can only think of. They are afraid for the people to be educated. We should never settle for this kind of situation. We deserve the truth and we have the right to speak. We should stay woke because we deserve better. We deserve better than this. The government should listen to this: Just let them be. Just let us be.
the truth that teachers are underpaid.
ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro, has shown some disappointment with the statements the Vice President has made, saying that Private School teachers themselves are overdue for a pay raise. Additionally she has stated that the salary of Public School Teachers should be the base mark on the salary of Private School Teachers not the opposite. Further hammering the point that raising the pay of Public Teachers would reap benefits not only for the public sector but for the private as well.
As more time passes, pressure on our teachers keep piling up. With inflation showing no signs of slowing down, as evidence of the past few months it will only get more brutal for our teachers. Even if we say that the starting pay of P25,439 per month is enough to make ends meet, what happens when they encounter unforeseen circumstances? Is their life just left to lady luck? Not to mention that we are also going through a learning crisis. It just shows that the budget isn’t allocated with much planning behind it. If the point of withholding the raise is to ensure the number of teachers in private schools stay healthy by giving them equal pay, what happens when being a teacher either public or private simply isn't enough? Wouldn’t that mean that teaching as a profession would die? The current office has made a promise that may determine the livelihood of many people. Surely this wasn’t some empty promise, We can only hope so.

suicide attempts. In order to prevent suicide attempts and deaths brought on by the COVID 19 pandemic, it is important to take into account domestic disputes and violence, financial loss, anxiety and depression, and pre existing mental health condition (s).
The Covid 19 pandemic is regarded as one of the most significant global catastrophes in history. Pandemic has disrupted many people's daily lives, affecting the social, healthcare, and global economies of countries, as well as business, world trade, tourism, and education. The Philippines' economic development slowed in 2020, with the country seeing negative growth for the first time since 1999. I can say the Philippines was devastated during those times especially Global poverty was shown during the pandemic, whereas manufacturers and workers stopped production and families were waiting for public funds from the government. This leads to financial disparities and inequality between educated and uneducated people of a community, since educated people has given the opportunity to continue their work in their home or mostly known as Work from Home, while uneducated people fired from their work.
The said pandemic affect the learning economy, this also slows down as learning meets the new normal which includes self learning while teachers discuss on online platforms such as Zoom or other video conferencing sites. Learning losses for students are anticipated to be significant due to school closures and issues with distant learning delivery. The management of Coronavirus (COVID 19) patients, a burden that is straining the healthcare system, is likely displacing the provision of critical medical services. The collapse of our economy during the pandemic affects the mental health of many people including youths. The COVID 19 pandemic may have caused unanticipated behavioral changes that may have led to the upward trend in reported
On the other hand, between January and September 2022, the Philippines' average inflation rate was 5.1 percent whereas 4.2 percent last September 2021. According to economists, inflation is brought on by an increase in the money supply relative to the availability of goods. Cost increases make saving money more challenging, which drives people to utilize riskier investing strategies in an effort to increase or merely maintain their wealth. But what about those families with modest incomes? How are they going to survive in our economy if prices keep rising?
In the third quarter of 2022 according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (9.1%), financial and insurance operations (7.7%), and construction (12.2%) were the key drivers of 2022 growth. Agriculture, forestry, fishing, industry, and services all had positive growth, with respective growth rates of 2.2 percent, 5.8 percent, and 9.1 percent; Household Final Consumption Expenditure (HFCE), a measure of demand, increased by 8.0 percent in this quarter; Government Final Consumption Expenditure (GFCE), which increased by 0.8%; gross capital formation, which increased by 21.7%; exports of goods and services, which increased by 13.1%; and imports of goods and services, which increased by 17.3%; and Gross National Income (GNI) increased by 10.5 percent thanks to a 94.6 percent increase in Net Primary Income (NPl) from the rest of the world. For this we rank second among ASEAN member with the available GDP growth rates for this quarter.
However, According to PSA, the greater yearly growths in the indices of food and non alcoholic drinks (7.2%), housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (8.0%), and restaurants and accommodation services (4.2%) were the main causes of the acceleration of inflation in Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR) in September 2022. It was also written by Wulandari and Kintu in Capital.com, published last November 2022 that the Philippines' annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate increased, rising to 7.7% in October 2022 from 6.9% in September 2022. With this inflation, the average annual inflation rate in the Philippines from January to October 2022 was 5.4%. The inflation rate was recorded at 4.0% in October 2021.
The COVID 19 pandemic quickly halted the country's high growth pace, casting a large shadow over its future prospects. Due to the country's extended lockdown and failure to adapt to a more efficient containment policy, over an uncertain and poor recovery every time a COVID 19 spike threatens to overwhelm the country's health system. It would be harsh if we all blame this to pandemic, besides Philippine economic model looks to be more prone to disease outbreaks.
I must say the Philippines is still growing, even though we made improvement in comparison to the third quarter reports from the prior quarters, things are still improving. Filipinos need more, we are hoping for economy’s fully recovery, According to a new report released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) last April 2022, the Philippines' economic recovery is anticipated to pick up steam this year and the following year, supported by rising domestic investment and consumption as pandemic restrictions eased, allowing for more manufacturing and construction activities. We need a sincere Government initiatives to aid in the revival of the economy. We Filipinos don't settle in less, we want more.

What is your take with the move of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. of appointing Cascolan as DOH undersecretary?
“As everyone is aware, Camilo Cascolan formerly served as the Philippine's top police, yet the current Philippine president chose to appoint him as the undersecretary of the Department of Health (DoH). How is it possible for a police officer to know anything? So, I disagree with his personnel selection because we need someone who has sufficient expertise as well as experience in relation to the position or what they lead in order to have the power to steer objectives in the right direction. A person with knowledge as well as a background is preferable since they understand the work environment and can give a clear path to help people.

The controversy over wearing school uniforms is not a new issue to us. In fact, it has been long raged among educators, parents, and students. Although it’s been the talk of the town for many years, there isn’t much beef going around since it has been a policy in most Philippine schools to force learners to wear uniforms. I guess I could say that the “controversy” is just about the students complaining about their uniforms and not following the proper grooming, and teachers calling them out for it causing a small, yet common argument. I mean, it’ s normal in our country; you’d never encounter a school where all students will obediently adhere to following the proper set and guidelines in wearing uniforms.
However, the controversy on wearing school uniforms that’s going around in our current year is different. Last July 18, 2022, Vice President Sara Duterte announced that uniforms would not be required for public school students under the Department of Education (DepEd) for the school year 2022 2023. And this, dear readers, reignited the question, “Do we need school uniforms?” As usual,
there are parties happy with VP Duterte’s decision and there are those who disagree. As for me, I disagree. I disagree with the question. The question must be, “Would there be an effect if school uniforms were removed?”
The current VP and DepEd Secretary's main reason for implementing this policy was to help students and parents adjust to the country's “inflationary demands.” Again, inflationary demands VP Duterte is aware of our rising inflation rate, yet she implemented a policy that is anti poor? Wearing civilian clothes every day is far more expensive than wearing school uniforms truly a joy and relief.
Not mandating students to wear school uniforms is anti poor, since parents will have to purchase additional clothing for their children, whereas washing and wearing the same uniforms save money and laundry costs. In addition, making the school uniforms non mandatory isn’t enough to make education accessible for all students and it won ’t adjust the demands of high rates since these

“Since Cascolan is an ex PNP chief with no prior experience working for the said department, I must admit that after reading the news of his appointment as the new USEC for the DOH, I got disappointed. We know that DOH is one of the executive departments of the government in our country, and I think that the individual who will hold that position should at the least have knowledge or background of the organization or have a profession that is relevant to it to carry out his/her duties without having a doubt. There are other people such as health experts who are more qualified than him.”
“I totally doubt the decision of our current president about appointing Cascolan as DOH's undersecretary. As some are saying, we are expecting someone better for the position, someone who really is expert in the field of health and is willing to serve the needs of the country in terms of well being. It’s like our president just keeps on appointing individuals to a higher authority in which they don't deserve because of their lack of expertise.”
students and their parents need financial aid, as tuition and other miscellaneous fees is also constantly rising.
Let’s face it, if DepEd really wants to reduce the burden on the students, then stop the rising costs of tuition and other fees. Remember, people, we are still in the middle of the pandemic and families haven’t fully recovered yet. Thus, removing school uniforms will just be another burden to them.
Let’s also be real, the administration is talking about school uniforms when there are a lot of bigger issues that needs immediate attention and solution in our country, and I thought that this was just another band aid solution to the on going education crisis. Before emphasizing the problem with school uniforms, is in it more appropriate to think of a solution how to address the issue in poverty? Come to think of it, why think about the dress code when there are still more problems in DepEd that needs to be addressed?
For instance, there are shortages in classrooms, there are shortages in materials, and worst, some schools are even facing shortage of teachers. These claims came from the school opening initiative (Bantay Balik Paaralan) of Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines where they have said that large class sizes and classes with no classrooms and teachers hound the first day of school, and textbooks and modules are “sorely insufficient”, and the concrete plans on how learning will be conducted are still not rolled out.
What a joy and relief it is to have the uniforms removed, huh?
“When we look for leaders or at least people we give authority to, we look for people who are qualified. Assigning someone who isn't a doctor or has no medical background to a position concerning medical issues is not a great idea. We've seen what happened when the pandemic reached us, we struggled to adjust. Who’s to say another pandemic can’t hit in the next couple years? If we will have him in the field of medicine, it is a waste of a position.”
“The news that Cascolan was appointed as Secretary of Health was unexpected to me. He was an ex policeman, and he has neither the experience nor the skills to be qualified in this field. The PNP chief has nothing to do with DOH. It's like appointing non combatant personnel to fight in a war; it is outrageous and unacceptable. So I'm wondering what made President Bongbong Marcos think he was fit for the position, especially in this time of pandemic where professional and skilled doctors and health workers are needed.”
“
A hit and a miss, that is how I see PBBM's decision of appointing Cascolan as DOH undersecretary. After months of being vacated, it is great to see someone will sit in the office, but appointing an underqualified one is a miss. It is undeniable that Cascolan does not have sufficient background related to health and it is visible that he is not the best choice for the role. Therefore, I do not agree with this decision since the department carries vital concern in the country, so it should be handled by an effective and more qualified leader.”

SERVICE a word that pumps in the heart and circulates to the blood of the SEd student leaders.
Some student leaders just want to thicken their curriculum vitae. But there are some who genuinely want to serve. No matter the modalities, these people will serve. Even during the peak of covid, these people will do something for the people.
What do you think will they get from bottomless coffee, late night sleep, and burning their eyes in front of their gadget’s screen? Nothing. They would not even gain money from this. The only payment they will have is their satisfaction from helping those in need. Just like what Keanu Malig, a third year college student leader of the School of Education once said,
Actually po siguro yung pinaka driving force dun, sila din po, kung sino yung pinagsisilbihan natin noh, or, and my Eduk family, yung eduk community, angelite community, and yung outside community natin
[Actually my driving force are those people whom we serve, or my Eduk(c) family, the Eduk(c) community, the Angelite community, and our outside community.]
Keanu Malig is just one of the promising student leaders of the department. Malig is a former council of Eduk Council and the current president of Rotaract Club of HAU (RACHAU). Keanu is known not only for his voice and interpersonal skills. He is also known for his wit, intellect, and his dedication for service.
Just recently, he won as The Angelite of the Year XV. He was also one of the three representatives of RACHAU for being a finalist for the Student Organizations Category.
Awards and Recognitions are truly a pleasure for one’s hard work and sleepless nights. But these things also serve as proof that our student leaders are working hard not for themselves, but also for society. However, admit it or not, not all of their hard work is recognized. But it did not stop them from serving because they are so focused on their goal of becoming a change to a community or even one person's life.
“Nakikita ko yung reality noh kapag babad tayo sa community noh, yung struggles talaga na, ahh ito yung real life, hindi siya puro kasiyahan lang noh kung tayo siguro noh sobrang bless natin na ahmm nakakakain tayo ganyan pero kapag nasa community ako especially with the kids noh kapag nagtuturo kami, parang feel ko ahm yung simple na ginagawa kong yun parang we’ re giving them another step noh, parang kung na pag akyat sa ladder yan sa kanilang mga pangarap, maibigay ko man lang yung isang step para makapag, makapunta sila doon sa parang goal nila and destination nila.. “
[I am seeing the reality, if we are in the community, the struggles of realizing that this is real life. It is not just pure joy. We are so blessed that we
can eat, but when we visit a community especially with the kids. When we are teaching them, I feel like that simple thing that I am doing for them is like giving them another step. Like when they are trying to reach their dreams, I want to give even just the very first step so they can reach their goal and destination…]
Real leaders inside or outside the school should have one goal and it is to uplift the community and even one person one at a time.
Malig is just one of those SEd student leaders who are ready not to just serve inside the department but also outside the premises of Holy Angel University. The Eduk student leaders and the other students who are working and studying hard may also become the next leaders of the world.
It may be through teaching the next generation since teaching is serving.
Real leaders are those who do not give up despite the suffering they are going through from the obstacles, especially the negative comments of the other people and the state of education program in the Philippines. Instead, they use this to gain strength to do better and to serve well. They do not give up because they have a heart of gold with the eyes to the goal.

These are some of the things which students missed in school when the COVID 19 virus strikes the Philippines. Some people may remark, "I miss the old delight". The delight of good times, not the financial difficulty, not the students who were left behind during the pandemic, and not even those some students who opted to commit suicide because of academic adversity. COVID 19 virus has been present throughout the world, including in the Philippines since 2019. Moreso, since the pandemic began, numerous people have stopped what they are doing to the point where they have missed a lot; missing the cozy environment as well as the classroom. When one hears regarding the CoronaVirus, it can not only arouse fear in them. It can also bring the past pouring back and reveal the chances that some students missed in school.
This pandemic was brought into everyone's life by the current virus, known as the CoronaVirus. The virus consists of a protein spiked lipid sheath surrounding a genetic core. The protein spikes, which resemble crowns, gave rise to the virus's name, corona, which is also the name of the Latin word for crown. The Coronavirus is a horrible virus with a crown that reigns as the block's queen because it hinders the way that must be taken and prevents the return of the good old days, which have been lost since the outbreak.
The pandemic makes the students miss their old best days. Maria Angelucha Hebres, a current Head of Multimedia Arts and Creatives Committee of the School of Education Student Council at Holy Angel University, stated “I certainly missed how I enjoy being tired yet excited during face to face (FTF) classes and how me and my classmates bond. There's something special about ftf classes, and it's how we can be free and enjoy our wonderful times with our friends and classmates despite the exhaustion that follows. It is something that online classes could not give us, and I cannot wait for things to get back to normal so that we can seize and cherish our remaining moments as students''.
Without the pandemic, there will be plenty of memorable days, especially inside the school. Furthermore, one of the most vivid days in each student's memory at school is when they would support one another while ranting about unforeseen circumstances brought on by their professor. Given how challenging it is to converse and make friends in an online setting, this is what the students missed the valuable connections with their classmates.
Not only that, but students also lose their chance to learn. Students have no choice but to take online classes because of the pandemic, which makes the situation more difficult. Students in online classes are not truly learning because they have limited communication with their lecturers. "Your message has been seen," is what most students receive during online classes, setting them up to lose out on learning opportunities, lose in the world of life, and lock themselves in a room of loneliness.
This online class is particularly challenging for students whereas in FTF classes give them more time to learn and develop while receiving a high quality education. In contrast, students in online courses have fewer opportunities to learn and grow because they will just search for information via social media and are unable to study comfortably owing to a lack of equipment due to financial difficulty.
Students squandered their chance to escape the breakdown room. Professor Carmel Abao stated in an interview published by the Ateneo School of Government that "Aside from the issue of accessibility, remote learning also had an impact on students’ mental health." Every school in the world, including the Philippines, has co curricular activities to help pupils improve their physical abilities and reduce emotional breakdowns.
According to Kajal Sharna, “Co curricular activities are intended to bring social & intellectual skills, moral, cultural & ethical values, personality development, and character advancement in students.
It includes athletics, social occasions, Library activities, science lab activities, classroom (study hall) activities, creative arts, meditation, and so on.” Co curricular activities are beneficial to all kids because they allow them to have fun while learning and growing. But due to the pandemic, these opportunities were lost. Even though there are activities available online, they are not as effective as in person activities. The odds of triumphing in the fight between happiness and melancholy are dwindling like a bubble.
Every person's ears are filled with dread as a result of a global epidemic.
The Reflection
The Editor in Chief of The Reflection shared her story on how she found her path to the end of the tunnel. “I was just a normal student who complied with her academic tasks during my freshman and sophomore years. But one thing I know, I always have a heart for writing. I always wanted to join REPLE since my freshman year but I never had the courage to do so. Then here comes the pandemic which consumed my energy physically and mentally. I needed something new to end my suffocating routine on a daily basis. Until one day, my fellow student encouraged me to join the publication. I thought about it for a day and now here I am still enjoying my new home. The publication is still helping me to have a breather from my academics and worries,” she said.
*Kriiiiiiing!* (School bell rings!)
The graduating students of the academic year 2022 2023, left the school premises, during the latter part of their freshmen year. Then, they now came back as the senior of their department. It is sad to think of it because it is the reality they have to face.
Some of the students are sad underneath the pandemic's crown. However, every student must tap their self back because this pandemic will end soon. Keep moving in the direction of your objective while holding yourself accountable. Don't allow the crown of virus to pass you by; instead, wear the crown to prove that you're the real highness.
Let us do our best to be a better person in the middle of this health crisis. Let us look up to the student leaders of today that fought their way to end their agony in the darkness that the pandemic brought in the lives of everyone.
Wake up! Now, it is your time. Do not give up on fighting for what you love. You have a new academic year to conquer. In this new academic year, I challenge you to also come back stronger. There is still time; you have much time left. Do the things you love while you are ruling your life. Do not let the pandemic hinders you from what you want and can do. I know it can be tiring and draining to reach the other side of the tunnel. But do not stop because the pandemic will soon end. We will once again go back to what we used to be in school.
You can rest and stop for a while, but still choose to take back your crown. Little fighter, I see you trying. Wear your crown and own your story.

Someone is calling. Should you answer the phone?
Along with the current technological advancements, calling someone does not require the use of landlines or writing letters that took years before arriving at the intended recipient. With just one tap, we can ring someone ’s phone as they can also dial our phone numbers. Aside from this fact making communication even faster than the speed of lightning, emergencies can now reach us even when people are miles away from each other. But have you ever received a call from someone who is in need of someone to talk to during their difficult times? Who do you usually contact when you want to vent out when you are having a melancholic day?
With just a simple gesture of picking up the phone, chances are it can save lives. Without a doubt, suicide incidents increased in 2020 by 25.7%, specifically when the pandemic started to kick in. Studies show that being with someone and asking them directly about their thoughts of suicide does not add to their suicidal thoughts. In fact, this can help someone in addressing what they genuinely need. In an online article written by Nancy Schimelpfening, there are numerous reasons why people commit suicide. Some of them include traumatic stress, fear of loss, hopelessness, feeling like a burden to others, even cry for help and the list goes on and on. Isn’t it alarming how these people give up their lives because of the mentioned reasons? Wherein people surrounding them can help them overcome what they are going through.
In 2020, the Department of Education in South Cotabato recorded a student
who committed suicide due to difficulty catching up with the modular learning mode.
According to the mother, her child's last mention is that he will be quitting his studies and asking his mom to return the modules to their teacher. He never mentioned any other problems, but he may also be depressed with their current state of living. This incident is preventable if we know how to access help.
We can always check on someone, be kind, and know how to communicate our feelings. Keeping it all inside is a difficult thing to master. Letting them know that someone is willing to listen to them and cares for them is already a great relief.
*Phone Rings*
Press 1: ANSWER THE PHONE
“Hello?” is maybe the farthest common introductory sentence in answering a phone call. Followed by the question “How are you?” in casual conversations. The common misconception is that this question always equates to the answer “I’m fine, and you?” How fine really? Maybe that is what the caller wants to know. It is okay to vent out, it is okay to feel down, and it is perfectly okay to feel sad. This is a valid emotion, and do not feel like oversharing with someone, in conversations, always keep the ball rolling for it can brighten up the mood and atmosphere.
Press 2: LISTEN and be HEARD
With the outgrowing number of suicide cases, the call for help was answered by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) in their World Suicide Prevention Month campaign started in 2003.
It is highlighted every 10th of September each year, providing awareness to organizations, government, and the public by imposing how the stigma can be put to an end. The theme for this year is ‘Creating Hope Through Action.’ As WHO mentioned, “This theme is a reminder that there is an alternative to suicide and aims to inspire confidence and light in all of us.” The answered phone now bursts a voice that seems to be the light at the end of the tunnel among Filipinos. In a more localized lens, the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) partnered with WHO to promote holistic mental wellness in 2020. The DOH initiated the foundation of mental health programs across different settings, particularly in workplaces, schools, and communities seeking attention for those who suffer from depression. In addition to the project, they also developed the 2019’s NCMH’s Crisis Hotline “Kamusta Ka?, Tara Usap Tayo” under National Suicide Prevention Strategy psychosocial services, which is available every day at any time of the day that provides initial psychological first aid. In addition, RA 11036, or the “Mental Health Act,” serves as a solid foundation that ratifies the provision of suicide prevention services and response strategies across the nation.
As Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe stated, “We are not facing this alone. With compassion and understanding for others, we can recognize the signs and educate ourselves how to access help. We all have a critical role in preventing suicide by socially connecting with affected people and connecting people to mental health services or medical care.”
PRESS 3: CHECK ON YOURSELF AND SOMEONE ELSE
Before dropping the call, tell them that you always got their back. With that said, to participate in World Suicide Prevention Month, provide help to those truly in need. If further assistance is needed, conference with another friend who is available 24/7, or reach the NCMH Crisis Hotline at 1553, 0917 899 8727(USAP) or 7 989 8727 (USAP).
Be part of ending the stigma; always remember to answer the phone if someone is calling, but never ever forget to ring their phones too.

“Am I going to be okay?”, is the question patients ask the doctors if they are terminally ill or sick. However, let’s change the perspective into our world, “Will I be okay”
4.5 billion years is what it took for Earth to be formed, 3.7 billion years old is the earliest living organisms ever being recorded, and around 5 7 million years ago were humans first appeared. Our world we call Earth has gone through a journey where different living beings co existed and multiplied. But wait, let me put you back in the present the year 2022… Flashbacks aside, let us talk about the “ now” of our ever changing world.
Let’s do a checkup at the beginning of 2022: disasters, environmental threats, warming of Earth, human carbon footprint, fossil fuels.
While we are still on the edge of a Covid 19 pandemic, several events continue to destabilize, endanger, and make the world more susceptible. To begin, the average global surface temperature in January 2022 was the sixth highest since global records began in 1880. Whereas much of Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa had higher than average temperatures. Furthermore, this month has seen some of the most catastrophic catastrophes on the planet, much like Colorado wildfires, African swine disease, and Brazil's flood and landslides, which killed and displaced many people.
Although the Earth is still suffering from the global pandemic, we can't deny that as we walk outside our doors or turn on the news, we've become more aware of our surroundings and other issues such as the Earth's warming, storms becoming stronger, temperature rising, glaciers thousands of years old melting, floods occurring frequently all over the world, wildfires becoming more dangerous and threatening wildlife habitats, and All of these things are happening in our world and are anticipated to continue.
Human actions and habits have clearly been the principal cause of climate change; mountains are becoming bald due to mining businesses which impacts the ecology, deforestation, greenhouse emissions due to fossil fuels, and so on. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration assessed the carbon dioxide (CO2) level on Earth in June 2022, and it is already more than 50% higher than the previous year's record from 2021.
As global warming has been a problem for decades, a viral video featuring a NASA Data Scientist named Peter Kalmus who protested in front of a Los Angeles bank with some other scientists has lately gone viral. "The world's scientists are being ignored, and this has to stop... we're going to lose everything, and we're not joking," stated Peter Kalmus, who is aggressively warning everyone about the danger of climate change. According to one of his conversations, individuals in higher positions just disregard research and scientists and are unaware of the climate threat.
Protesting through civil disobedience, they have spoken out and want to prohibit banks from financing the fossil fuels business and fossil fuels pro-
jects, or else the Earth would die. This was now occurring and therefore quite concerning, or rather, we should have been concerned some years ago due to the long term and short term implications of global warming.
Silver Lining or a Threat?Atwhat cost? Atemporarypainkiller.
It’s been more than 2 years since Covid 19 first frightened the normal lives of the people. While everyone lives in quarantine, human activities were reduced, and transportations and establishments were slowed to keep the spreading of the virus. Before the pandemic, pollution was already a national and world issue, it may be air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, and other harmful materials in the environment in which that need to be addressed. As Covid 19 began, everyone's movement was restricted. The pre pandemic period was a nightmare for everyone, as people tried to adjust and adapt to the so called "new normal." However, researchers, professionals, and even ordinary residents observe changes in the quality of the atmosphere's air. Here in the Philippines, it has been stated that the atmosphere has been clearer under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), and you will never see the dark polluted smoke in the air. This demonstrated that during the epidemic, air pollution fell dramatically around the world.
Cases of Covid 19 are still being reported today, and we are aware that the pandemic is having an influence not only on human everyday life, but also on the global ecosystem. Now that individuals
have been vaccinated, are returning to their usual lives, and many sectors have been restored, the certainty of post pandemic results isn't quite as secure. To make the long story short, experts have already said that the pandemic's positive influence on the ecosystem is just transitory. The pandemic may be over, but how certain are we when everything will return to normal and various sectors' motions will resume? Certainly, the end of the epidemic was a plus, but our planet will once again suffer as a result of human actions and other factors.
Pass the Earth to the next generations
Our Earth certainly provided us with the necessities for survival and life, but could we answer its questions?
Earth: Am I going to be okay?
“Sorry to tell you Earth, but you are not okay.” Is whatweallhonestlysay.
Truth be told, our planet is in bad shape; each day, fresh records of various changes in the environment and atmosphere are being recorded, making the situation worse, and it's not good.
Earth: But can it be prevented from getting worse?
Humans: Yes, as long as we keep uniting and helping you to be healthy again.
Truthfully, we can assist our world to endure, avoid, and ensure that the beauty of our planet is passed down to our next generations.
Even in our little dwellings, simple waste recycling and water conservation are beneficial. We may consider it as a minor gesture, but when small things are compacted, they have a large impact of advantages. Combating climate change is more difficult than we realize. As a result, there are several strategies to assist our planet if we truly want to make it whole again. "It needs to be now!" as Mr. Peter Kalmus said. We should listen to specialists and not disregard the harmful consequences of the fossil fuels industry, which harms our precious Earth. Decreasing our carbon footprint is one way of assisting our lovely planet. As experts say, minimizing our carbon footprint is critical since this reduces the effects of global climate change, improves community health, promotes globalization, and conserves ecosystems. You and I can ensure that subsequent generations have recourse to cleaner air, water, and food by lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Educating ourselves by seeking for methods to help is admirable, as it ensures that even when the epidemic is over and people's lives restart, we will continue to strive for a greener and safer Earth. Because that is what we aim to do, and it is our obligation and/or responsibility, to make our planet happier and healthier.

THE NEWS YOU SHOULDN T READ
Nowadays, some citizens accept everything that they hear or read on the internet without validating the information they received. They are becoming persuaded by the creative sounds, edits, and convincing voices of different influencers. It is why individuals of all ages are being deceived by misinformation. They were now abusing their own right to speak by spreading fake news, harming the lives of countless individuals and even our generation's future. Fake news can impact not only our future but also the future of the next generations. “It won’t”, some would say but oops.. fake news already became one of the biggest issues that we face during pandemic.
Generally speaking, disinformation is a major concern for democratic countries. According to the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) poll, seven out of ten adult Filipinos feel that fake news and its dissemination on the internet is a big problem, especially in the Philippines where disinformation, misinformation, and mal information are rampant. Believe it or not, we are once victims of this. Fake news is regularly used to manipulate public opinion. It also threatens the stability of governments and their institutions. Even after they have gained the proper knowledge, fake news never stops hoodwinking them.
The spread of fake news is a sort of evil because it gains credence and inspires others to believe or act maliciously without knowing the real story.
Gladly, there are plenty of citizens who are still with us in combating fake news. Some of the people who are already awake to
the truth in our society, especially the students, spend most of their time finding credible sources on Google because lots of websites are incredulous and most published articles are seen as examples of misinformation, disinformation, or malformation. Finding the right sources of who to vote for during the election is one of the actions they did. They are also ready to educate those who are unwilling. However, we cannot avoid the trolls who negatively affect our country by deceiving our fellowmen through ridiculous claims.
If this continues, the darkness brought by it can reach the next generations. Would you want your children and the next generation to be blinded by false information because of your pride and unwillingness to be educated? If not, you have to step up and speak if you know the truth. In order to avoid speaking about fake news, you always have to fact check. Remember that all that you do and decide not to do can affect the future of our country and the people in it.
In the time of constantly growing technology and social media platforms, disinformation is becoming prevalent for lies and rumors that are spread to ruin one person or group to a wide public. During the recent election, we are inundated with emails, messages, and publicity materials containing different candidates for elections, their fake credentials, and other netizen exposed candidates who buy our votes. With the advent of photoshopping
and politicians who refuse to reveal the truth, it's frequently impossible to know what to believe. The presidential candidacy, many TikTok influencers did a campaign video to support their chosen president and vice presidential candidate. Tiktok was flooded with pieces of information, and digitally manipulated images. Some influencers might even get paid for their partisan content. As written in one of the articles in dot.la, Snyder stated last May 2022 that the fact that Marcos Jr.'s campaign paid social media stars to openly back him shows the effect of TikTok content in advancing him as the nation's next leader. TikTok’s lack of transparency on the amount of misinformation and how it spreads content greatly affected the recent election. As a result, many people believed these issues without fact checking their sources of information. However, many people are becoming more aware of what misinformation does to people's minds and made them become more cautious of what they read and watch on television, social media, and even news reports.
The speed of spreading rumors on social media is just a snap of the fingers. It is because it can reach thousands of media users within a second. Undeniably, social media platforms are used by the political
candidates and influencers in spreading their campaigns. But the danger in this is that fake news can easily be spread and hard to stop. Disinformation has long been regarded as a global danger to liberty and democracy because the use of digital media makes misinformation a more significant issue.
Psychologists who study fake news warn that it will be a difficult struggle that would eventually need a global collaborative effort by scholars, governments, and social media companies.
“The fundamental problem with misinformation is that once people have heard it, they tend to believe and act on it, even after it’s been corrected,” says Stephan Lewandowsky, Ph.D.
It is not simple to win the hearts of the other people but don't be discouraged. All things will turn out according to plan/or His will. Inform them like how an educated person should do. With that, please know that the proper way to combat fake news is you being responsible in making sure that what you believe in and communicating with others is factual. You must absorb and speak news that is supported by credible sources. There are so many ways we can determine if the information is reliable.
There are various reliable articles on the internet that can help you be knowledgeable about a topic before you make
choices. As social media consumers, and youth living in this generation, we should know how to combat this kind of misleading piece of information. If we read or hear a story that is most likely a rumor, we should call it out. We may report the author, speaker, or page. In this way, we may reduce the number of individuals who will come into contact with the aforementioned deception. Furthermore, effective education regarding false news will assist individuals, particularly the youth, in contrasting the information they encounter. If you internalize learning more about an issue or idea before judging other people and spreading the news, you can help stop the spread of fake news.
If there are numerous ways of spreading fake news, there are also a variety of strategies for promoting timely, accurate, and civil conversation in the face of fake news and misinformation. There are many ways to address the scourge of fake news and disinformation, everyone has a responsibility. Let humanity win while making the truth dominate.
As a citizen of our country, get involved, be a voice, and start making actions. As Abraham P. Sarmiento stated before “Kung hindi tayo kikibo, sino ang kikibo?

“
Palagi po akong puyat, Sa umaga may work, katapos ng work, mag aaral. Minsan nagaabsent na sa school kasi pagod from work.”, pahayag ni Trisha Denise Dimabuyu, mula sa ikatlong baitang na kumukuha ng medyor sa English.
“
Sobrang hirap noong naguumpisa pa lamang ako. I experienced late submission on my school requirements.” saad ni Gywneth Lee Mangaliman
“Kahit mahirap magpatuloy lamang kayo. Huwag kalimutan huminga, at kapag mabigat na, halika, i kape natin ‘ yan.” pahayag ni Dimabuyu “Marunong rin magpahinga sa nakakapagod na mundo pero huwag kang hihinto”, payo ni Cordova
“
Huwag mawawala ang focus sa purpose mo kung bakit ka nag work habang nag aaral. Be proud of yourself, you ’re tough as you might think”, pangaral ni Mangaliman
“
Maaring nakakapagod, nakakaubos, at nakakastress but at the end of the day we get the fruit of labor we deserve.” payo ni Venzon
Padayon!

THE MORNING RUSH TO SCHOOL
The hearts of the students are filled with both excitement and worry. Some students agonized that they might bring the virus home. Some students are excited to brave the COVID 19 virus. Nonetheless, students pulled off their first face to face examination at Holy Angel University after two years.
SCAN YOUR I.D ENTER THE SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY
When the COVID 19 pandemic struck, everything changed and became odd for everyone. Schools were closed, and hallways became silent. Everything has been turned upside down, and that’ s why stepping again to campus brings back a wave of memories for many students. Given that the worst of the pandemic appears to be behind us, Holy Angel University (HAU) has finally announced the resumption of face to face exams for the academic year 2022 2023 after a two year hiatus. Therefore, School of Education (SEd) students made a fresh start and got to relive the joys and excitement of going to school as they returned to on campus exams for their preliminary exams.
FINALLY, A PAPER AND PEN & NOT MY ANTI RAD GLASS AND LAPTOP
Last August 25 27, 2022, the Saint Joseph Hall building was filled with SEd students, the hallways became lively, and the classrooms were full of a spectrum of emotions as students trooped back to school marking the first time most of them had taken face to face exams in over two years. Students' memories of taking face to face exams flashed back to them when they reverted to campus after being locked up on online exams and alternative assessments. Almost all SEd students took their prelim exams in paper and pencil format, with the majority of these being major subject courses.
After taking the exams, various comments were made by some SEd students. A range of thoughts and expressions has been shared as they finished their exams throughout the day. Alleth Cunanan, the current second year representative, mentioned that the return of the face to face exams was nerve racking,
“For almost two years, exams were being held online. Now that we had taken the exams face to face after two years, I felt nervous and excited. I was nervous because I did not know what to expect. I felt like I was a freshman again since we did not take face to face set up exams last school year. Nevertheless, I was excited since I was able to see my block mates!” she said.
Torculas stated that she favored face to face exams because from her perspective as an aspiring teacher, face to face exams will be highly beneficial in preparing for the LET board exam in the future. “Face to face exams are much better than online exams because we are observed by our professor during our exams to prevent cheating, whereas online exams have many advantages for cheating, which is wrong and should not be tolerated,” she added.
More so, as students return to face to face classes and exams, reports of petty crime have surfaced, and they are now viewed as a new risk. As a result, some SEd students are concerned about the current state of affairs. Nonetheless, as the University attempts to gradually transition to traditional classes, they are continuously doing their part to ensure student safety. Consequently, based on the results of the interviews, SEd students are at ease taking exams on campus.
They had a lot on their plates, which is why preparation for their prelim gets in the way. Reviewers again appeared on the scene, and valuing time management became their top priority. As Joemar Wells, Rector of the Society of Empowered Religious and Values Educators (SERVE) has said, “The ability to manage time is required for exam preparation. Everything is doable if we complete tasks on time.”
On the other hand, the return of face to face exams posed a challenge for some SEd students, who encountered issues during the process. It caused students to consider a lot of factors, one of which is travel time, as some of them must get up early due to the long distance between their homes and the university, as well as unpredictable circumstances such as traffic. “The only adjustment I made was to travel from home to school because during online exams, we simply sit and take the exam on our devices, whereas during face to face exams, we must prepare ourselves and travel to school,” mentioned by Jewelle Torculas, President of the English major sophomores, in an interview.
Bouncing back to campus sparked a discussion about the distinction between face to face exams and online exams. Numerous opinions have been expressed after opening the door of opportunities for SEd students to explain their main differences, leading them to conclude that face to face exams are still preferable to online exams.
The spread of COVID 19 has sent shockwaves throughout the educational system. But as the pandemic nears its end, the resurgence of schools that have been trampled by it for the past two years increases. This prompted HAU to reopen the university and resume face to face exams, starting prelims. Some SEd students experienced excitement and anxiousness at the same time inside the bubble of on campus exams. Even so, the return of face to face exams provided SEd students with a fresh start a new learning experience and a fresh journey to embark on. Despite the challenges, they looked forward to more face to face interactions, such as classes, rather than just exams.
As an education student, you must always keep the torch burning as you start the process of beginning anew. Never allow negative forces to dominate you. Instead, continue to self reflect and appreciate your own and others’ strengths, as well as develop an awareness of your social vulnerability in order to adjust to the new normal. As a SEd student, do not ever forget to spread your wings and be an illumination to the entire SEd community to empower others to unite in the face of adversity. And since SEd is indivisible, everyone must bounce back and recover.
“
Time is up! Pass your papers forward.”
by Kyrylle Jane Ocampo
The sudden shift in the learning environment pushed SEd students to enter the room of adjustments.

A brain child of Reple’s Editor in chief Mary Joyce Dizon, Lathala 2022 was successfully celebrated for the whole month of Aug.
The event comprised two activities: the webinar entitled, “KAMULATAN: Ligtas, Makatarungan, at Matatag na Pagbalik sa Eskwela” and the GAWAD PARANGAL 2022 of 3 competitive events Liham: Pagsulat ng Tula; Guhit: Paggawa ng Poster Slogan; and Kasukdulan: Pagtatanghal ng Talumpati.

Walang maiiwan, walang masasawi.

The School of Education’s Dean, Dr. Alma Natividad, expressed her gratitude and comments for this event. She also

I trust you not, how could such obscurity be a superstar
Never in a thousand lifetime I would fancy that I
There we are, you became my shadow as I was your light The eclipse of my every hushed toil to the radical conquest The gift of the eternal Astraeus from the abyss of soaring
No matter what, you have followed me like a caring overshad-
Even when the light becomes dim Darkness cannot be avoided Treat your heart as an asset Give your best where you’re headed For this night isn’t the last yet
Trials will plague this life of ours But the darker the night The brighter the stars
The more we fight, the brighter the light.

Boses ng masa, boses ng bawat isa.
Filipino ka? Filipino siya? Lahat tayo’y mahalaga.
Nabago man ang kilos, pananamit, lengwahe at kultura.
At maraming nasawi, nangulila, naghirap at nagdalamhati pa.

Break na kami: Paano mag move on?
Basahin mo muna ‘to hanggang dulo bibigyan kita ng tips kung paano mag move on.
Sabi nga nila "Cry until it hurts no more".
Kung dati laging siya ang iniisip mo, this time, focus on yourself sizt! I spoil mo ‘yang sarili mo!
Pangapat, tanggapin mo na! Kaya ka nahihirapan at nasasaktan dahil marami ka pang "what ifs". Huwag ka na umasa na magkakabalikan kayo. It's a big NO, sizt.

As part of the face to face activities in celebration of School of Education (SEd) Days 2022 last Friday, October 21, 2022, the ball games have finally returned to the court, and one of these is volleyball, which was played by representatives from the three great houses the House of Lumière, the House of Flambeau, and the House of Braille who gave their best serve, attack, block, and dig at the Holy Angel University covered court starting at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 n.n.
The competition was called Ballon D’Or: Volleyball, which translates to “Golden Ball”. The game is classified into two categories: female and mixed. The House of Flambeau was hailed champion in the female category, while the House of Braille remained unbeatable, winning the mixed category in straight sets.
The game began with the mixed category, and the first two houses to match were the House of Braille and House of Lumière, followed by Lumière and Flambeau. In the championship round, Braille clashed with Flambeau and triumphed in both sets. For the girl category, the House of Flambeau players work extra hard to maintain their momentum and protect their records. Despite their exhausting series of matches, they managed to keep the torch burning and defeat Braille, making them champions.
Almost the entire HAU court was filled with loud cheers and shouts as each housemate, along with their supportive housemasters, showed unity and sportsmanship by cheering for their respective teams.
Some Eduk Councils serve as game scorers, assisted by volleyball experts and referees. The game was the third face to face activity and one of the most highly anticipated segments of the SEd Days. It also became a good way to start the morning as it aided the players to work skillfully and collaboratively as a team. And the half court was buzzing with adrenaline from both the competitive players and the supportive audiences.

for the last round. Still, Braille triumphed with a score of 18 16.
The final game of Basketball Boys' Braille against Flambeau was close since Flambeau outclassed Braille but Braille gradually chased after star player Khyann Santero's shots, one after the other, until finally, they became champions.
The members of the winning team are Rafael Ocampo, Dexter Gomez, Khyann Santero, and Ethan Dimatalo.
Santero, a second year student, was hailed as the game's best player, scoring overall 34 points in the whole game. Being a neophyte player during his College Days at HAU, he said, “I am glad for myself and my teammates that we became champions and I didn't waste the opportunity given to me by our housemaster. I saw their perseverance to win the championship. They give their best on every possession,"
Braille was also the champion in the basketball girls with a total score of 16. Lumiere got 1st place scoring 10 while Flambeau got 2nd place with a score of 4, respectively.
The first game in Basketball Girls pits the House of Braille against the House of Lumiere, and Braille wins 8 4. The second game is Lumiere vs. Flambeau,
and Lumiere wins by a score of 6 4. The final game for the females is Flambeau vs. Braille, which is won by Braille 8 1.
The members of the said team are Amber Franco, Samantha Argcaoili, Jewelle Torculas, Ancolyn Dizon, Jennylou Gatchalian, and Marae Gueco. Amber Franco was the game's best player, scoring 16 points throughout.

Seven reasons why Owls are Gamers
The Reflection polled 30 gamers in the School of Education community on September 11 about their thoughts on online games, answering a Google form .
Based on the gathered data, online games helped them deal with stress and gave a rating of 62.1% helpful rate. It was also revealed that 37.9% were playing Mobile Legends, 24.1% playing Call of Duty, 13.8% playing Valorant, and 24% on others.
What do you think might be the reasons why students are playing online games?
School gamers state that they play to unwind, relieve stress, and avoid boredom. They think that it is fun, helpful to exercise their brains, interesting and pleasing, which helps to alleviate tension.
When I am stressed with my academics, I turn to playing online games. I get to play with my friends there. "And that is how I relieve my stress," said Jennifer Lugue, a 2nd year student.
Most of the time, the students play team based strategy games in which two teams try to conquer the other team's base, as well as a player versus player shooting game in which players fight on a battlefield.
