Regents Talks: Growing Minds by Spreading Ideas By Laura Butler, Growing Minds Coordinator

Morgan - My eyes don’t work – what’s wrong with me? A detailed look at Irlen Syndrome where Morgan shares her personal experiences in an effort to educate more people about this condition.

Estelle - Is technology ruining our generation? In this talk Estelle argues that technology is ruining our generation by minimizing creativity and destroying human relationships.

Na Hyun, Elina Smyth and Jessie Gerits - ‘Perfection’ What exactly is perfection? A look at the impact of plastic surgery in our modern day quest for beauty and ‘perfection’.

Nicole - Women, not objects In this talk Nicole exposes us to the objectification of women in the media, and in society in general. A passionate argument for the case that “women are people too!” and that they shouldn’t be treated as second-class citizens.


Marissa - The sexuality exception Marissa provides examples of where people are bullied because of their sexuality and argues that this should never be allowed.

Yoo Hyun (Kevin) - Should video technology be used in professional football? Kevin shares his detailed knowledge of where referees have got it wrong with football judgements, making the case for the use of video technology to help keep the game fair.

Ayushi - Technology in schools A plea for greater use of iPads and laptops in schools, arguing that they’re creative, efficient and fun - and that student learning will improve by making more use of them.

Reese - The terrors of terrorism “There is one thing that people seem to overlook. The only true constant, the one common denominator seems to be the topic that most haven’t addressed: the children.” In this talk Reese urges us to look at terrorism again, focusing on the impact it has on young people. Ross - How ancient civilizations created many modern day conveniences Rome set the foundations for some of the most-used modern day conveniences. In this talk Ross uses his knowledge of history to share what we should be thanking our ancient ancestors for.
