NOTE FROM THE CURATOR:
One of the programmatic threads we love to follow through the Art of Performance Series is that of artists using the vernacular or thematics of the Circus arts in contemporary performance. As part of our focus on artists from the Francophone world this season, and in celebration of World Circus Day (April 20!), we are delighted to bring Les Deux de Pique to Sarasota. We believe all artists whose work intersects with Circus should visit The Ringling at some point in their lives, and hosting them within our season in live performances and in our community is part of our mission. Bon spectacle!

byLes Deux de Pique
Meet Grace and Kevin GoldenCrust, French-Canadian snowbirds who are setting up camp in your neighborhood! These contemporary nomads invite you to experience their grandiose show staged in front of their mobile home. Overflowing with good intentions and ambitions, they have created a comedic smorgasbord of unusual talents, personal development, and the wonders of the sea, featuring sets and props originating from the most prestigious flea markets. The GoldenCrusts are where circus, love, and humor meet.
Co-directed by Tamara Bousquet, Nicolas Boivin-Gravel and Philippe Trépanier, The GoldenCrust family welcomes you into Grace and Kevin’s colorful world. The GoldenCrust family is all that, and more!
Professional RV campers, Kevin and Grace Bacon-GoldenCrust travel the countryside in their motorhome sharing their humor and day to day adventures with their fans through social media.

ABOUT US
Les Deux de Pique translates as The Two of Spades.
1. Found in a deck of 52 cards, the two of spades often has the lowest value in any game.
2. A term used to designate someone as simple-minded, and a little silly.
Usage note: most often used as a negative connotation.
As a creative team, Les Deux de Pique creates a charming mix of love, excess and ridiculousness. They promote the circus arts through creation, presentation, and production of their unique shows specializing in clowning. Largely inspired by observing the physical and emotional gestures around them, their work reveals beauty in that which is exaggerated as well as withheld.
A couple on and off the stage, Tamara Bousquet and Philippe Trépanier have been performing and creating circus shows for some of the largest companies in the world for more than 15 years. A few notable companies they have performed with include Cirque du Soleil, Cavalia, The Seven Fingers, GOP Variety Theatre (Germany), and Palazzo (Germany/Austria).
The GoldenCrust Family was created in 2020, with the support of the Canadian Council for the Arts, the Quebec Council for the Arts and City of Montreal Council of the Arts.
This production is almost entirely self-contained, traveling with a colorful RV that serves as the set of the show. It reflects our desire to make the work accessible to all audiences. Since 2020, La Famille GoldenCrust has been performed in public parks, parking lots, school yards, and festivals throughout Canada and the United-States in cities and small villages alike.
They also sign the creation of two original shows: Clip!, a solo show starring Philippe Trépanier, has been performed more than 250 times throughout the world.
Additionally, they’ve performed a Canadian tour of their duo show Trattoria, created with support from the Province of Quebec and the City of Montreal Councils for the Arts.

The Ringling is an extraordinary center of art and culture engaging with the local, state, and global communities, and is accessible to and inclusive of all.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The Ringling respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the traditional Homelands and the ancestral territories of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, as well as the ancient tribes of the Calusa, Uzita and Tocobaga. We also acknowledge the local freedomseeking community called Angola, and the people later known as Black Seminoles. We honor the resiliency of Indigenous communities, and we extend our gratitude as we live and work on their Homelands. We pay our respect to the Elders, both past and present, who have stewarded these lands and waters through generations since time immemorial.
