Here are several establishments who are already preparing to make this Valentine’s Day memorable and delicious. If you are looking to incorporate some whipped cream, maybe a crispy pastry or some gooey chocolate goodness into your Valentine’s Day plans, we’ve already done some research for you. To follow is a quick list of some attractive options for you and your Valentine. Cuban Bread Pudding at South Shore Grille. Soft and creamy with Chocolate Eruption from Mackey’s rum sauce. Mmmm! Allegria Wine & Cocktail Lounge will be serving a Coeur a la Creme over Raspberry Coulis, perfect for couples. Barbed Rose Steakhouse & Seafood Co. will be featuring their Banana Fosters Bread Pudding. I relieved invaluable training there for five years and developed my traditional sushi skills from head chef Holi, an experienced chef from Tokyo, Japan. After that I transferred to four different restaurants including stops in New York and Ohio. Each place had different styles and offered different and valuable experiences. I first became a head chef at Ohio Samurai three years ago. I have established my style from the stops I’ve made. Specialty: Good preparation and maintenance of topquality fish. Fresh fish for Sushi is the most important for taste! Signature Dish: CHITSURU LOVE BOAT is my favorite dish to create and make here. Because it’s a combination of so many different kinds of fresh and cooked fish and my special rolls. It’s also a combination of both traditional and modern-style sushi. It’s a good choice for both Sushi fans and those who never have tried sushi before. Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack spices up their menu By Adam Donaghey Boudreaux and Thibodeaux have been working hard over at Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack. The upstairs deck is temperature controlled, perfect for all the intense weather we've been having in the Clear Lake Area recently. You can't get a better view of the Kemah Boardwalk Marina anywhere else in the area. And most importantly, a barrage of new menu items are coming this February. On the horizon for spring, when the weather settles and live music starts back up, you might see the two cousins swinging hammers, building a brand new outside kitchen for boiling crawfish and smoking Alan's famous oysters! The Swamp Shack's humorously named menu items add a fun, swamp-like atmosphere to the dining experience. But clever names don't adequately describe the satisfaction in each savory bite! Due to popular demand, additions will include some old Seabrook Beach Club gems, along with several mash-ups of current crowd favorites and some exciting new items to fill out the menu. Swamp Shack's burger menu is getting several major additions. Prized among patrons, Alan's mouth-watering ground beef burgers are infused with fresh ingredients, creating a uniquely enjoyable taste. Two of the most popular burgers on the menu, the Swamp Hog – a beef patty stuffed and cooked with bacon – and the Water Moccasin – a beef patty stuffed and cooked with jalapeños – have been swamptastically combined to create the colossal “In-Breed” burger. Another exciting addition is the Alligator burger – a beef patty stuffed and cooked with tenderized chunks of real alligator meat. By Domino Taylor On the heels of the History of Seabrook book, a new venture is in the works to preserve our Bay Area/Clear Lake history. With the aftermath of Ike and so much destroyed, many are reclaiming the old photos and actually doing something with them and doing some great with all the old photos and interviews, hence the Images of America, the history of Seabrook. (See Dec. 2010 Arts column). Now we can add another dimension to the history recording, a movie. Residents and visitors can now preview an exciting new Seabrook oral history project called Voices By the Bay. She has now been interviewing people for more than a year. “After witnessing the loss of homes, pictures and documents as a result of Hurricane Ike, I decided that Seabrook’s oral history needed to be preserved and archived, sooner rather than later. Everyone I've interviewed has one comment in common‘Seabrook was a great place to grow up!’” said Tisdel. Among the many fascinating stories of hardship, survival, sacrifice and fun, their voices tell of watching crabs and water moccasins fighting it out in the swirling waters below the floors during a hurricane, hitching up a mule team to pull those model Ts out of the mud on Todville Road, flounder gigging with

lanterns on the bay, and colorful stories of the old Maribelle’s. This small town is still about shrimping, fishing, boatbuilding for work and pleasure, sailing, swimming, cool bay breezes with pelicans, seagulls and more! “No one tires of the sunrises, moonrises and sunsets over Galveston Bay; this is still a fabulous place to grow up and grow old!” said Tisdel. There is also a separate educational component for schools that includes lesson plans to help youngsters archive interviews with their family members and help them understand what they can learn from their family history. Seabrook has had its name for well over 100 years, but since it was incorporated late in 1961, it will be celebrating its official 50th Anniversary, later this year. A community celebration for Voices By the Bay is planned in Seabrook later this summer, to present the program to the residents. More details about this will be forthcoming. “This has been a great learning experience for me, an opportunity to meet wonderful and fascinating neighbors. I feel fortunate to be able to do this,” added Tisdel. Donations to support funding for this project are encouraged and can be made through the same link where the preview is posted. Karen Tisdel is an American History educator and is passionate about capturing oral histories from Seabrook’s older residents. She is working as a production assistant with Windward Media, who recently did the documentary – “Galveston-Gateway on the Gulf” for Houston PBS Television. “This is my first foray as an independent, but with plenty of great help to keep me focused, this will be fun and exciting. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to share “Voices of the Bay” with the community.” The production team is Emmy award-winning documentary producers, Richard Coberly and Veronica Veerkamp of Windward Media. They have written, directed and produced a wide range of projects for broadcast and non-broadcast audiences, including, travel, promotional, educational, multi-media presentations and Emmy award-winning documentaries. Slade Lewis (Lewis Jewelers): The reason I am going red for women is for my mom and all of our close friends and clients who fill our community with great things every year who live with heart disease. For men this is usually something we talk about SLADE with our friends and physicians, but with women – for whatever reason – it is put on the back burner. We need to do a better job of getting the word out that yearly check-ups on the heart are just as important as any other check-ups women get on a yearly basis. Many complications due to heart disease can be headed off early by paying attention to every day signs that usually go unnoticed until it is too late. Even recent studies have shown that something as simple as bad breath can be an indicator for heart disease. Making more women aware of these indicators and more, can help prevent major operations and even deaths. It is up to us to chip in and get the word out. David Johnson, O.D. vation is his mom. His mom had been in good health most of her life until one afternoon about a decade ago when she started experiencing this burning sensation in the middle of her chest. She chalked it up to heartburn but was concerned a lit- KEVIN tle due to the fact that she had never had heartburn before. A friend of hers called that afternoon and she described the pain to her friend. This friend told her to go tot the hospital because it sounded like she was having a heart attack. His mom argued at first, then decided it would be better to go. She drove herself to the hospital and they took her right in with no wait. The doctor confirmed she was indeed having a heart attack. She has had a pacemaker for the past 10 years and is in great health now. CPT Christopher Ploss (US Army Reserve): I am going red for women for two special ladies in my life. The first is my step-grandmother who had to undergo several surgeries for ventricular tachycardia – a condition where there is a very fast heart rhythm that originates from one of the ventricles. The second, I haven’t met yet is Frances Field’s mother. She was a victim of CVD and had to undergo a bypass surgery. Both of these women are CHRIS CHRIS now doing great thanks to everyone who helps fight in this cause. heart disease. KREWES INTO KEMAH mardi gras parade & carnival SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2011: Kemah Parade starts at noon; Kemah Carnival immediately following at T-bone Tom’s Krewe du Lac and The City of Kemah present the Ninth Annual Krewes Into Kemah" Parade and Carnival on Sunday, March 6. The 2011 theme is “Pirates of the French Quarter.” Vehicle line up starts at 11 a.m. on Harris Street in Kemah behind T-Bone Tom's. The Children's Walking and Bike Parade lines up in the parking lot behind the Kemah Visitors Center at 6th and Bradford Streets. The parade rolls at noon. Individuals, schools, groups and businesses are encouraged to decorate trucks, cars, floats, golf carts or organize walking clubs. The parade winds through the streets of Kemah while merry makers have a great time throwing beads and loot to the crowds. The route begins on Harris Avenue, to 7th Street, Kipp Street to 8th Street and back to Harris. Spectators stand or bring a chair, pick a spot and have a front row seat. Participation and admission are free! The post parade "Kemah Carnival" is from noon to dusk at T-Bone Tom's. T-Bone Tom's has a full menu and a cash bar available, not to mention the ever-popular crawfish. Live music by Ezra Charles, a family-friendly costume contest, facepainting, Arts and Mardi Gras market, and a Pirate Ship moonwalk will round out the afternoon. Krewe du Lac Announces Royal Court Krewe du Lac recently announced the Royal Court for the 2011 Mardi Gras season. Crowning of the King and Queen was held at Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack in Kemah during the annual Kings Cake Party on January 9. The 2011 season has officially begun! The King is honored for his service to Krewe du Lac and the community. King Peter D. Kinser, a resident of Old Seabrook for 21 years, fits the bill. King Kinser earned his Masters in Theatre and has worked in education for 15 years. He also founded Farpoint Theater where he remains artistic director. "Being King of Krewe du Lac is like a dream come true. This a wonderful group of friends to celebrate with," Kinser said. Holding to tradition the Queen is selected by finding the toy baby in the King's Cake. Amal Shafek, the lucky lady, had just moved to the U.S. just a week prior (following her marriage to Michael Chesser). Queen Amal was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and has her B.A. in Architecture. Since 2007 she had been the assistant editor of Magaz Design Magazine in Cairo, Egypt. Ladies of the Court for 2011 are Tammy Mosley, D' Anne Conrad, Michelle Patrick and Lauren Kirby. On the Water LAKEWOOD TO HOST BAY CUP I ON MARCH 5 Lakewood Yacht Club Race Committee Chairman Dwight Bengtson recently announced that the 2011 Bay Cup I will be held on Saturday, March 5. This race is open to the public and race registration can be handled online at Lakewood’s website: lakewoodyachtclub.com under the racing button. “This is the first of a two race series which features long distance racing in Galveston and Trinity Bays,” explained Bengtson. Bay Cup II will be held on Sat., Aug. 6. with both races having multiple legs which total about 30-40 nautical miles. Overall trophies will be presented for the two race series at the conclusion of the Bay Cup II in Aug. Bengtson related that the club will continue the Cruising Non-Spinnaker and a Cruising Poleless Spinnaker Classes as they were popular with racers last year. Other classes will be One-Design, PHRF Spinnaker and Non Spinnaker, ORC Club Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker, Shorthanded Offshore Sailors (SOS), Women Crewed and Multihull. A minimum of five boats constitutes a class. In addition to the long legs which will take boats into Trinity Bay, the course will present a navigational challenge. The entry fee of $55 will include post race activities the evening of Sat., Mar. 5, with a steak cook-out by the pool and musical entertainment in the club’s lounge. Photos of the day’s race will be shown on the lounge’s plasma television for all

Last week I flew home from Chicago, while most of my friends and colleagues were flying home from Salt Lake City. Although I missed all the hubbub that was the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, I was lucky enough to be a part of a truly inspiring and rewarding experience. All that, and I still got to go sledding! Frank V. Ross, a completely selftaught filmmaker, has made seven movies in the Chicagoland area. Not only does he write, direct and edit his own films; but oftentimes he's one of the lead actors, he runs sound, and up until his last few pictures, he's operated his own camera. Essentially, he's a one man movie making machine. He’s also waited tables for more than 10 years and has no idea how to do anything else. I first met Frank after a screening of his fifth film, PRESENT COMPANY, at the 2008 South By Southwest Film Festival. I was impressed with his ability to capture working people in real situations in an interesting way. Maintaining that balance between real people and the characters they play is key when creating a narrative meant both to convey the real world and to entice its viewers. Additionally, I'm fascinated in Frank's remarkable ability to play jokes on his viewers and get away with it. He’ll often use suspense in humorous situations throughout his films to build the interest of the audience and then offer no real payoff. The audience will go along with it, oftentimes knowing they’ve been duped, because of his keen ability to distract and redirect. As I read the script for AUDREY THE TRAINWRECK (our first collaboration), I found myself consistently amused, expecting something to happen and then chuckling when it didn't. Frank even blatantly adds a title card, displayed after the main title while a supporting character has a tire blowout, that reads: “Or... These Things Happen in

Threes.” Maintaining a pleasant vibe and keeping it fun for the audience, we ultimately get a payoff at the end – albeit, a non-traditional one. In Frank's latest incarnation, TIGER TAIL IN BLUE, he ups the joke’s-on-you ante. The film will thoroughly confuse some audiences, and they'll be constantly trying to figure out what's going on. Whether or not the confusion over something so simple actually matters in the grand scheme of things is up to them. That being said, when discussing filmmaking over a glass of Scotch one evening, Frank said, “Movies aren’t a painting that you can stare at and make your own conclusions.” The endings don't change, and the viewer can either accept that and go along for the ride, or not. Some of the highlights in Chicago included reading an infamous John Wayne interview from a 1971 edition of Playboy Magazine, sledding down a hill on a snow shovel, Drew falling down the hill with all the sound gear (unscathed!), sausage and peppers, stares I got when I whipped out my koozie, realizing that I really enjoy slate jokes, laughing at how much fun it really is to count down the New Year over and over again in the middle of January. What do you wear to work? Do you wake up each day and throw on an outfit to get you through the day or do you consciously pick out your outfit based on your ambitions with your job? What is appropriate for corporate wear? What if you are an artist? Why do they say, “dress for the job you want, not the job you have?” Let’s hash out some of these lingering questions and get to the basics about how you should really dress for work. The goals of dressing for work are essentially the same across the board. No matter if you are in the corporate world or in a more artistic setting you should desire to project an image of confidence, self-esteem and competence. You should appear polished, strive to have your clients trust your taste, and have them feel that your instincts and are in their best interest. I am reminded of many a young salesman who approach me with that very-large-oversized-humpty-dance style suit jacket and I instantly am turned off. The lack of concern about appearance, or visual representation makes me feel as if they either don’t believe in what’s being sold – or that nothing HAS been sold at all! Business, business casual and corporate can all fall under the same umbrella of suits, pantsuits, blazers, slacks and pencil skirts. These are all-American business staples that should be stocked in every closet. The must-haves are various pieces in shades of dark colors. Even color selection makes an impact in the sense that navy colors convey a sense of trustworthiness and honor while black is chic and polished. Grays and camels come across as very conservative and neutral. Bright colors are more daring and in the business world can come across as too distracting, while in the interior design arena, say, the right choice of color and pizzazz can come across as perfect! I firmly believe in dressing for the job you want – just don’t overreach. Your superiors know how much you make, and if you are wearing something you shouldn’t be able to afford it implies you can be careless with money.

But the effort of finding a tailored jacket and smart slacks, no matter the brand, will not go unnoticed by your boss. I remember when I was first starting my career as a platform artist back in the early ’90s. I went to the year-end Versace sale and found a beautiful $1,500 blazer on sale 90 percent off! I wore the jacket often with colorful button down shirts and slacks. And even though the people below my level did not know the value of the blazer, the people above me did and felt as that even though I was young, I did care enough about the image I was projecting and where I hoped my career would take me. When you are first starting your career you don’t have to make a huge investment, just invest in the right pieces. Stone Descent Is “Seizing The Day” By Rhonda Meredith Time is a subjective thing. It moves either fast or slow. At least it feels that way. Local metal band Stone Descent has been around for about two years now, but it wasn’t until the past six or so months, that time has seemed to be on fast forward! First off, the member lineup has stabilized with “Louisiana born now League City native” Brad Mangrum on vocals, Fred Owens on drums, Tony Salisbury on bass, and Jason Herman and Adam Rumbut on the guitars. The founders Owens and Herman met while working out at an area YMCA. A friendship formed instantly as the pair bonded over music. Next they brought in Rumbut and Salisbury. Salisbury, also a Louisiana native, referred the band to Mangrum and the rest was history. The band pulled together pretty quickly and Stone Descent won “The Battle For America” band contest. And recently, they have been hard at work recording a three song EP demo that’s so fresh - it’s still hot out of the oven. Stone Descent has an “old school” metal sound to me. (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest) Brings back the memories of big hair and screeching guitars! The look of the band doesn’t reflect it, but the sound does. The songs on the EP were written by Mangrum. Writing music has been therapeutic since the loss of his five year old daughter in a car wreck. The song “Dazed” reflects how he feels in the world. “Yesterday’s Dead” is about moving forward and letting go of the past. And “Seize The Day” reminds people to be who they are and live your life true to yourself. Mangrum is quick to add that people should relate to the songs in their own way though.

Jeremy Bradshaw: The Bay Area’s Hidden Gem By Rhonda Meredith

wanted to play the drums. Growing up in Dayton (Texas), he would “air drum” and beat on anything he could. His childhood memories are remembered fondly, and he recalls listening to classic rock growing up. RUSH is his all time favorite band while David Gilmour (vocals and guitarist for Pink Floyd) is his idol. When Bradshaw set his sights on an Alvarez acoustic guitar, he bartered for it by painting the store’s sign. Artistic by nature, he likes to draw and even became a tattoo artist at one point. When he got that guitar, two words seemed to come to mind rather quickly to those around him. Those words were “natural ability.”

It’s a Tuesday night at Dempsey’s Pub in League City. You hear the glasses clatter, can participate in the friendly chatter and see Jeremy Bradshaw setting up to play his acoustic show. About 9:30 p.m., the TVs go quiet and as I look around, I notice the crowd has seemed to have gotten larger in the past 30 minutes. Bradshaw gets situated on a barstool placed center stage and some Dempsey’s regulars go up to him and say hello. They bring beer and spirits and you hear “Cheers!” and laughter. A single fret board, a classic acoustic guitar, a microphone and Bradshaw... It’s a simple setup for sure. Cue the introduction and start the first song. As Bradshaw sings and plays The Eagles “Hotel California,” you realize that what you are hearing is unique. Yeah sure, it’s a cover song, but when Bradshaw sings, it’s like it’s “his,” and he owns it.

Around 15 years old and beyond into his “better” years, Bradshaw dabbled in bands like Nostalgic Front, Organized Confusion and a cover band called Undesided (nope, that is not misspelled!)

He makes it look effortless and easy, even though I know it isn’t. But I do know the sound is very pleasing, though, and I also know that those who come into Dempsey’s on a Tuesday night are in for a treat. While he performs mostly covers, the real gems are the original songs. They can be described as melodic and ambient. With or without a song title, with or without actual lyrics, it’s best to pay attention to the way they are performed. I swear Bradshaw almost goes into a trance…something like a “happy place.” He says his lyrics come from “small-town inspiration.” Early on, Bradshaw

Bradshaw has a supportive wife named Tisha. He says without her being his No. 1 fan, he wouldn’t be performing music. There are five Bradshaw children –Garrett, Bridgett, Savanah, Jaden, Alston and a grandbaby named Autumn. His family lives around the Bacliff area and are close. For 16 years, Bradshaw worked overseeing the I.T. department for an environmental company until he was laid off. The family struggled as he looked for work for more than a year. But as fate and/or luck would have it, the “music thing” worked itself out. Bradshaw says he feels fortunate to be able to be a full-time musician and make a living. It’s hard work, but a labor of love. Just recently, Bradshaw pulled together a bass player and a drummer. The trio will be making public appearances really soon. No official name yet. That will come. The main thing is bringing the music to the audience and fans the right way. Bradshaw wants the “goose-bump factor” when you listen to him and the band perform. By his own admission, the stage shows are “nothing fancy” and “as real as possible.” He smiles and said you may even find him barefooted sometimes and quite possibly “a kid may dart across the stage.” Yep – one of his kids! Dimitri’s Rail: “Wake Up” Houston! By Rhonda Meredith In January, Houston’s own Dimitri's Rail hit the number one spot nationwide on Clear Channel‘s New Music Chart for unsigned artists in the Alternative Rock music genre. Congratulations are in order for the band members: Sean Harrold (lead guitar), Mike Maloney (drums), Paul Ehmer (vocals, rhythm guitar), Eric R. Dockery (bass.) Dimitri’s Rail has been around the music scene for a decade now and has evolved over the past few years to become an outstanding live band. They have been a 94.5 Texas Buzz featured band at Scout Bar and nearly blew the roof off during that performance. Their debut CD “Seasons of the Weak” was originally released in 2003 and then re-released in 2008 independently. It was produced by the original line up of the band and recorded at the renowned Sugar Hill Studios. In 2010, Dimitri’s Rail signed a deal to release an EP titled “Wake Up” with Universal Music Group/Fontana in association with Desert Highway Records/IndieExtreme for distribution. And, oh my goodness, “Wake Up” is phenomenal. Frontman and founder Ehmer shares this with The Scene Magazine, “We had started recording the project and it was half way done when our guitar player at the time walked out on us at a gig. The meaning is – “Someone's path through life, what they go through as time goes on, reflections on things in the past and moving forward.” Currently Dimitri’s Rail is moving forward in the studio. They are in the process of recording their second full length album with producer Daryl Youngblood at DuoTone studios and hope to be finished by March. Then it’s off to perform in Austin at SXSW, followed by local, regional and out of state tour dates. One to note on the calendar is April 16th. When I listened to the EP’s songs, the first thing that came to mind was “quality”. The band has been around, paid attention, and obviously has fine tuned a formula that works. The title song “Wake Up” rolls like a freight train musically. It has a hard and heavy guitar break that would get anyone pumped for that last mile on their exercise run. “Never” is melodic with a touch of a southern feel. The “Never going to change me” in the lyrics takes it to an anthem status. The rock fist can still pump the air, but just to a little slower beat. “Paint Me” has an Alice In Chains feel to me. I like that band too, so it’s all good. And while the guitar shines on all the songs, it just seems to particularly stand out on this song. Then there is “Foo.”

Who Is I.D.R.? I Don’t Recall. By Rhonda Meredith There has been a lot of buzz lately about I.D.R. Literally. The band was nominated in the “Best New Band” category for the 2010 Texas Buzz Awards this past December. And for good reason…I.D.R. rocks. It was on a cold January night that we caught up with I.D.R. at Pulled Nerve Productions in Webster. Usually after the typical pleasantries are said and done, an interview will take place. But I.D.R. is different. It never felt like an interview. “What you see is what you get,” said I.D.R. front man Roy Hockenberry. And what I saw was a group of guys (five to be exact) who had spent a full day at work, and now here they were at 9 p.m. ready to lay down drum tracks for their debut CD. Actually only one was going to lay drum tracks, but the other four were there in support. You get the idea. I had cheated and researched what the name I.D.R. stood for, but asked anyhow. I am female, and that’s what I do… Honestly, it wasn’t a trick question, but Alex Slay, an (infamous) area drummer who was at the studio shook his head. “I asked that question before, and they said I Don’t Recall. So, I asked again, and they said I DON’T RECALL. Man that was messed up!” It was kind of funny really. Bass player Brett Cardiff agreed, “We get asked that a lot and of course we say, “I Don’t Recall” and people look at us strangely. Really though, we came up with the band name the morning AFTER we spent the night BEFORE thinking up band names… and we couldn’t recall any of them!” So, in a nutshell I.D.R. stands for I Don’t Recall. Anyhow, that was a year ago and the name I.D.R. stuck. During 2010, the band has been working on original material. Their songs have been coined (by me) to be “Southern Punk Metal.” I love the fact I can understand the words Hockenberry is singing. He told me there is no processing on the vocals and less effects than most. He means it when he says, “less is more.” Mark Davis walks in now and says hello. He is I.D.R.’s cofounder (along with Hockenberry) and the lead guitarist. I wanted to know if I.D.R. had any pre-show traditions and Mark raised a bottle (yes, a bottle) of Wild Turkey and smiled. I will say that no actual turkeys have been hurt prior to or after an I.D.R. show. Also, one band member (I won’t say which one) offered up they had spent an hour watching Forrest Gump before

I.D.R.’s last show. Life is like a box of chocolates, I guess… Maybe it’s Run! I.D.R. Run! I kid! I kid! These guys are the coolest. They are funny, open and honest. It won’t be until maybe late spring or summer that the CD gets finished. There is no timeline, no rush to get out anything that isn’t the band’s best. Hockenberry says, “If we are going to do this, we are going to do it right.” That was the philosophy in forming the band, too. Rounding out the lineup is drummer James McComb and second guitarist Jeremy Peoples. Now James and Jeremy seem like the quieter band members. I could be wrong on first impressions, though. But a birdie did say that after two beers, James is – and I quote – “toast.” Ok, back to talking about the CD. It’s going to be good. Personally, I absolutely love “2012” and “Gasoline.” They make me think of Skynyrd really. The influence is there. The songs are up on I.D.R.’s Myspace page. Well, previous versions are up. I.D.R. is working with Benji Bordelon of Pulled Nerve Productions and getting their sound just right. Hockenberry says he is excited to work with Bordelon. The small recording atmosphere and Bordelon’s years of recording experience is a good fit for I.D.R. Even Pulled Nerve Productions co-owner Cynde Ferris was on hand during I.D.R.’s studio time. The band has universal appeal, puts out good music and is definitely here to stay. Next up I.D.R. will be performing at Warehouse Live on February 13. Check them out on Facebook! T-Bone Tom's: A Kemah treasure since 1974 By Adam Donaghey February 1 marked the twelfth anniversary since Barry Terrell took over ownership of Kemah staple, T-Bone Tom's. Since then, Barry's expanded the restaurant year after year. Due to his foresight and good judgement, T-Bone Tom's has become a local favorite for outdoor live music, down home cooking, incredible steaks, burgers and barbeque. If I'm in town, I'm in Tom's Backyard on Monday nights (after 5) for 35-cent Wing Night and $6 domestic pitchers – hey, I'm a cheap date. So, catching up with Barry on a Monday seemed fitting. We splurged and had a round of St. Arnold's Winter Stout. A seasonal full bodied beer (it's certainly not $6 a pitcher; but well worth the price), it'll be gone by the end of February. I managed to stave off my hunger a bit in order to hear about the structural history of Tom's Backyard. A new concept beginning in March to start your week off is Country Fried Sundays, live country music from 5 to 9 p.m. with the likes of Sheila Marshall and Chris Johnson & Cheap Whiskey. But the night life ain't all that's on the menu at T-Bone Tom's. Known for its reasonably priced, scratch-made lunch specials, the restaurant serves up some of the best comfort food in town. How long have you worked there? I have worked at Floyd’s for 3 1/2 years! Worked at both locations (Webster & Pearland.) What’s it like? I love it! It’s a great bar crowd and I know 80% of my customers by name. What is it about bartending? I have worked in the kitchen, been a hostess and a server…all good, but bartending lets me be myself. What is it about bartending the customers don’t know? It’s a therapeutic relationship. Signature drink? Bloody Mary. Let’s talk about “Office

Space” and “Waiting…” “Waiting” hurt the restaurant industry as a whole. The servers in “Office Space” wore flair and that’s a good way to express yourself. Any tips worth mentioning? Yes! I received a $300 tip one night. And another night I met Clay Walker and received free show tickets! (Thanks again Clay if you’re reading!) When not bartending, I am… DJ’ing around town! Who inspires you? My mother Linda. She passed away five years ago. She was the strongest person I know and a fighter.

SCOUT BAR to host a range of national acts to Clear Lake in coming months Nickelodeon's Drake Bell & Disney's Emily Osment to perform all-ages show at Scout Bar Tuesday, March 22 By Rhonda Meredith Tickets are on sale now for the Drake Bell & Emily Osment tour. It’s an all ages show at Scout Bar on Tuesday, March 22 with doors opening at 6 p.m. In fact, Clear Lake is only one of three stops the tour is making in Texas! The other two stops are Corpus Christi and Dallas. Neither of those makes sense to travel to when we have a premier venue right here. So don’t wait to get your tickets. Get them now! Thomas Wilson, the owner of Scout Bar, is excited to bring this opportunity to the community. “This show is something fun for the parents and kids. We have had tremendous success and support in the past with the (American Idol alum) David Archuleta shows at other Scout Bar locations. I am excited to be able to seize the opportunity and broaden Scout Bar’s format as well.” I had to press Wilson for the real reason… “Drake Bell plays Indie rock music, and I like it,” laughs Wilson. There you have it! There has been a lot of talk about this tour and it’s sure to be a good one! Both Bell and Osment have built a huge fan base with their TV and musical careers. What you may not know is before Bell became a successful actor as one of stars of Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh”, he co-starred with the one and only Roger Daltrey of The Who

in the 2001 movie “Chasing Destiny.” Daltrey is credited for having taught Bell how to play the guitar. He has received nine Kid’s Choice Awards and released two albums. His third album is due out this year.

Osment has been a media darling for some time now. She was Hannah Montana’s best friend on the Disney Channel’s hit series for five years and won a Teen Choice award. Her highly anticipated debut album “Fight Or Flight” was just released through Wind Up Records. Opening the show is a pop band from New Jersey called Action Item. You may have heard about them opening for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez! Your family doesn’t want miss this. Scout Bar typically isn’t open on Tuesday nights, but is making an exception for this show. It’s a safe environment for all who attend and you’ll be talking about the memories for a long time to come!
