No Waves? No Problem!
JETSURF HOUSTON now open on Clear Lake
the next generation of extreme watersports has arrived in texas By John Ennis bringing an option for those looking to surf but unable to find any waves to catch. introducing the JetSurf, a lightweight, carbon-fiber, motorized surfboard capable of attaining speeds of 37 miles per hour. think personal watercraft crossed with a wakeboard, a skate board, add a hint of dirt-slinging, engine-buzzing motorbike, and then multiply it. JetSurf boards, which contain a hide-away removable gas tank and high-performance miniature engine, were developed in the Czech Republic in 2010 by the renowned team at mSR engines, a company with a rich history of race technology, extreme precision and highperformance engineering. utilizing mSR’s special new breed of high-powered and lightweight racing engines, JetSurf motorized surfboards have become the worldwide, industry standard for a new and exciting era of extreme water sports.
although huge in asia — the top market internationally is tech-savvy Seoul, South Korea — europe and australia, JetSurf dealerships in John Ennis photo america were limited to miami and New york JetSurf Houston owner Jordan Davlin City until recently. But that changes this month as the veteran-owned JetSurf houston becomes the newest accredited JetSurf dealer and certified JetSurf academy playing a pivotal role in supporting the u.S. brand expansion of the Czech-based company. located in Seabrook’s endeavour marina along the north shore of Clear lake, JetSurf houston will offer sales, premium board rentals, demos, lessons, group classes, technical support, repair, and specialized training services for new and experienced JetSurf riders in the state of texas. although the waterfront factory showroom and headquarters is located on Clear lake, JetSurf houston will have a presence in galveston, lake houston, lake Conroe and the surrounding areas where watersports are popular. JetSurf houston owner and certified trainer Jordan Davlin wowed crowds late last month with futuristic-looking, on-the-water demonstrations reminiscent of an episode from the Jetsons tV show during the texas outlaw Challenge.
Davlin returned to the houston area after a stint serving his country in iraq, studying small business with entrepreneur concentration at utSa and running a small promotional and marketing company. Davlin is excited about introducing this cutting edge product to houston and the surrounding area and believes Clear lake is the perfect place to base his operations from. one of the key aspects to Davlin’s business will be the JetSurf houston academy.
“JetSurf has quickly grown to become the world leader in producing the fastest, lightest and most dynamic craft for this unique and rapidly-growing sport of JetSurfing,” explained Davlin.

The Garage Bar and Grill Gears up for a Fundraiser & Revs up for the National Acts Coming to Their Stage
By shawn Domingues
Sitting on 10 acres in alvin (1755 hwy. 35 North Bypass Road) the garage Bar’s giant red tin building has become the home away from home for many people from different neighborhoods in the surrounding cities and from all walks of life. it’s a ginourmous neighborhood bar that’s part sports bar (with extra-large hDtVs), part pub (with a pool table, dart board, 20 draft beers on tap, and a corn hole setup out back), part family restaurant, part live music venue, and part biker bar (with a large, brick, covered parking area out front for motorcycles).
Built from the ground up and conceptualized by a “gear head” who takes the love of classic american cars to never-before-seen heights, the garage Bar parks an american classic car, smack-dab in the middle of the over-sized, warehouse-like interior, two-stories up, on top of the first floor bathrooms. yep. iNSiDe the bar. a genuine, authentic american classic car. Never mind, the “hoW in the world did y’all get that car up there?” question that first-time visitors inevitably ask, another great question is, “Who keeps parking their car up there?” a different classic car is displayed every month and donated by regular customers and/or classic car aficionados. this month, it is a silver ’67 Chevelle. the garage and hot-rod theme is carried throughout the bar, with a vintage gas pump, checkered flags, license plates and other clever car-related details displayed throughout the enormous space.
the cocktail menu includes items with creative names like, “Route 66 Black Cherry limeade, gojo Cosmo and Knuckle Buster margarita; and the expansive food menu has sections like “Start your engine” for the appetizers, “tune ups” for their sandwiches and wraps and customers can “get Fueled up” with entrée selections like their Smothered Pork Chops, Stuffed Chicken, 10-ounce Ribeye or Chicken Fried Steak. the desserts are listed under the section labeled “Finish line,” of course. Customer favorites include the Steak Peppers (juicy jalapeños loaded with ribeye steak, topped with four cheese stuffing and broiled to perfection), homemade Boudin Balls, Broiled meatballs and New york Strip Steak. But, according to long-time customer, Ray Daugherty, “Believe it or not, my favorite thing on the menu is the Frito Pie.”

Salud! Margarita Specials and More in July at Las Anitas By sarah Piña
During the hot days of summer in texas, there’s simply nothing better than an ice-cold beverage to cool off, with great food as a bonus! For 17 years, las anitas (formerly Casa anitas) in Seabrook has been offering up quality drinks and mexican eats—and during the month of July, margarita specials will be running all month!
“During July, we’ll have three different sizes of our top shelf margaritas on special,” said Carlos zuniga, who has been the manager of las anitas since its inception. Some of the many flavors include mango, strawberry, sangría, piña, prickly pear, blue curação, melon, and more. “We also will continue to have happy hour every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with specials on margaritas and beer, too,” he added.
to complement the great summer specials, las anitas will continue to serve the quality mexican cuisine that patrons for almost two decades now continue to return for, in addition to some new favorites.
“our customers always tell us there’s no other chile gravy like the one we use for our enchiladas. also, our fresh salsa is made daily, and we’re always told that they can’t find another salsa like this one anywhere else. i think one of the things that sets that apart is that we toast our chiles,” he said. “our Pollo Diablo has really been a hit as well,” he added, referring to the popular spicy, bacon and jalapeño wrapped grilled chicken dish with topped with grated cheese and a cream sauce, accompanied by fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, mexican rice, and slow-cooked charro beans.
as if great drink specials and amazing mexican food weren’t enough, las anitas will also have live guitar music on their flowerlined, picturesque patio on various upcoming weekends this summer.
las anitas is located at 4624 NaSa Parkway in Seabrook (next to arlan’s market). their hours are monday through thursday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (closed Sundays). For live music and other specials, check their Facebook page, as it is continually updated. So head over grab a cold one, enjoy a nice lunch or dinner on the patio—and when you go, tell them the SCeNe sent you! ¡Salud!

THE GARAGE: Continued From Page 14
the garage is the local hangout for those in the alvin, Santa Fe, Pearland and surrounding areas, and the regular customers are the type of people who pull together to help those in need. With a genuine concern for the people in their communities, the regular customers stepped up to the plate without hesitation when, on the day of the Santa Fe high School shootings, manager Deanna luprete decided they should throw a benefit for the victims and their families.
“i had no idea the event would grow exponentially to this magnitude. i just knew we had to help. Santa Fe residents are our closest neighbors, and i wanted to do something to show our support for the families who suffered through such an unimaginable tragedy,” said luprete. Benefitting the Santa Fe Strong Fund and Santa Fe texas education Foundation, the fundraiser and bike run (motor variety, of course) will take place Sunday, July 15. all bikes are welcome and a police escort will be present; sign up begins at 9 a.m. the band line up includes: Promising lies (School of Rock students), turning Point, David Joel, hourglass, Vince King (elvis impersonator) and headlining will be Santa Fe native, Pee Wee Bowen.
“i have done many, many fundraisers over the years,” said Bowen. “of course, this event is very special. all my children went to school in Santa Fe in the ’80s. i worked with 4h, was on the galveston County Fair Board for many years working with Santa Fe youth.” he added, “When i first heard of the shooting, i was one of the folks that thought this would not happen to us. i was upset about Florida shooting; however, this one hit home plate. my band made a huge donation memorial Day when i performed at haak Winery,” said Bowen, “Sante Fe is no longer a small town, she now has to deal with big events (good or bad). this is a challenge that has brought her back to a small town relationship again – to survive and unite with god’s help.” the benefit has been garnering a lot of interest and record numbers are expected to attend the family-friendly event. in addition to the impressive live music line up, there will be a bounce castle, games, BBQ, raffles an auction and more. t-shirts will be available and many students have already volunteered to help; the high school’s culinary art students will be helping with the food. mark your calendars and get out to garage Bar to show your support for a community who has endured a terrible tragedy.

FOLLOWING A DREAM Featured Artist: RAY HEARD
Ray heard loved art since childhood; yet, it wasn’t until age 28 that he saw his first art gallery in laguna Beach, California.
By Kelley Dawson
heard visited many galleries while living in California. Full of inspiration, he thought, “i can be an artist.” heard told, “i started painting in my spare time, evenings, weekends, any time i could get.”
ten years later he moved to oklahoma to live at his grandparents’ home. the move allowed heard the opportunity to paint all day. “it was a small Cowtown. Nobody buys art,” he shared. heard traveled to sell art in places such as Colorado. he also learned custom framing and photoshop for restoring photographs. “it kept me going,” admitted heard.
he disclosed he spent years living the “Van gogh” life. though not wealthy or well-known; heard asserted, “i stuck to my dream. all the years practicing painting, i was able to learn several styles and techniques.”
he uses brushes and palette knifes to generate various works of art from Van gogh style to realism. then heard wanted to find a gallery and live again at the beach. he ventured to galveston. he met a landlord whom gave him a break on rent to get started. “it’s been seven years now,” declared heard. “i paint local scenes, places, beach life. People think my gallery pieces are created by four or five artists.” heard informed he learned to paint at the beach and tries to emulate the colors of the galleries in California. “i just love those colors,” he expressed. “the bright colors go best with beach homes. i found my spot. it’s a wonderful place to be, and galveston has treated me well,” heard said. he paints mostly with oils. he has mastered his own creation of “liquid glass” paintings that resemble stain glass on canvas. heard revealed, “it took many, many years to work at the secret mixture of mediums to hold shape. it’s a good place to use the word awesome. it makes you stop and just stare.”
he won’t yet share his secret. heard quipped, “you’ll have to wait for the book.” he also makes his own prints. his customers are compelled to touch the liquid glass prints because they look so much like the original. “i had to put up a barrier,” he proclaimed.

heard described how painting makes him feel, “it’s hard to explain and put into words. the right brain doesn’t have language. i see shapes and colors. it is a rush of excitement and kind of trance of concentration.” he further defined right brain and left brain, “to paint a chair, i look at shapes not just the arm of the chair.” When heard teaches class on ‘how to see like an artist’ he instructs not to draw or paint a chair or subject but to paint the spaces between the subject or to even paint upside down. he assured, “you will have a great looking chair.” heard’s diverse works are captivating. his expert strokes and brilliant use of negative space enhance each painting. the bright, radiant colors are perfectly captioned in his word “whimseacal.” heard stated, “i see myself and others who dedicate their life's work as ‘an artist's artist;’ meaning that it's not a hobby or a bucket list item. We have truly followed the dream at all cost, dedicating life to creating beauty for ourselves and others to enjoy.”

Clear Falls high School (CFhS) Knights sailors Katie mcgagh, Dutch Byerly, matthew morrell, Cade morrell, Noah zittrer, asher zittrer, Phillip adams, zane Rogers and Wylie Rogers recently traveled to San Diego to compete against the 11 other high school teams that earned a spot at Nationals. the San Diego yacht Club was the selected venue by the interscholastic Sailing association to host the high School team Race Nationals for the Baker Cup.

LAKEWOOD YACHT CLUB 281-474-2511
"the racing area was set right off Shelter Point, an easy spot for families and friends to follow racing, and very close to the floating dock where coaches and sailors would work to get some wins in," reported lakewood yacht Club (lyC) Coach Bernat gali. "Conditions were beautiful with clear skies and temperatures in the 60's, and the wind speed was excellent, but the race area made racing challenging, with strong currents coming from all over and power boating wake affecting every race. With the race area being so close to shore, geographical wind shifts were part of the game plan, and unexpected puffs changed the strategy while racing on several occasions."
CFhS had a great first day, despite some trouble getting off the start, and finished the first day in 3rd overall, qualifying for the gold Fleet and earning the right to fight for a spot on the podium. the last day rose with light winds, and although they displayed great racing skills against some of the best teams in the country, the Knights lost the battle for third at the very last run to finish 4th overall. Congratulations to all the winners. Point loma high School, locals out of San Diego, won their second high School Nationals in a row after Fleet Race Nationals with a clean score of 17-0. antilles high School from uSVi claimed second while Christchurch high School from Virginia beat CFhS for third overall.

already the most respected speedboating event and destination in texas, if not North america, the 11th edition of the Texas Outlaw Challenge was even bigger and better than ever before with more excitement, speed, boats, public events and on-the-water action.
New this year was the addition of the international Outboard Grand Prix (iOGP) racing circuit which brought their dynamic style of Formula one ChampBoat Series racing to Clear lake. this style of powerboat racing proved exciting. the boats’ design might be similar to indyCar, but there are many aspects from other forms of racing, including stock car, motocross and even airplane racing incorporated into these Formula one ChampBoat races. they race right off the dock as drivers sprint for positioning as they reach the first turn. the boats turn on a dime, run 18 wide and fight for every inch and every corner generating gforces of up to five times standard gravity in spots. adding to the excitement for the finals on Sunday were windy conditions that challenged the drivers and even resulted in one boat catching air on a turn before imitating a submarine. Winning the first ever iogP texas outlaw grand Prix was greg Foster in the Dillard Financial Solutions boat. Winning the National Champion Shootout was the new huski Chocolate mti catamaran which clocked out at 164 miles an hour on the 3/4 mile course.

Hammerfall @ Scout Bar
LOOSE NOTES: Continued From Page 33
TOuR sTOP CLeAR LAKe - and in June, we caught hammerfall, a Swedish metal opera band with an underlying influence of Viking somewhere in the mix. thomas Wilson did a masterful job booking this band as their final show in 2018 North america as these fun loving guys clearly let it all hang out. in the words of frontman Joacim Cans to the house of dedicated fans, “We are simply a bunch of old men that enjoy rocking!” the sound knob that night at Scout Bar was dialed in to “big arena.” i love the way hammerfall rocks it – tight and crisp… they bond with their fans better than many and even invite fans onto the stage for a roll behind the mics. their fans have important roles in their show and respond smartly on cue. the show took place on a Wednesday evening. We rocked are tails off and left energized for the rest of the month, easy. Scout Bar…. Where else? TO The PRess - When you read this, i hope you and yours were able to work the Fourth of July into a two-weekend event. the center of the SCeNe universe will be taking focus on the garage Bar & grill where “gobs” of big things are happening on the schedule. We’ll be looking forward to catching up with you out in the sun, on the water, and in the many cool hangouts we’ve got. See you out there!
Bryan Shayne: Continued From Page 46
“We play anywhere between 150 and 200 shows a year now, between solo acoustic shows and whole band shows. We do covers, but many originals as well. i’ve written every song, with a vision of what the album would sound like,” he said, referencing his forthcoming album in the next year. Four of Shayne’s singles have already had success with radio airplay, with one in particular titled “everything i Need” landing in the top 20 of the texas music charts. and area residents have the privilege of enjoying these hits and more from Shayne and the band’s shows at several places around town this month, including Crazy alan’s Swamp Shack (7/12 and 7/25); t-Bone tom’s (7/17); monkey Bar (7/20); Railean Distillery and Buccaneer Bar (7/28).
“i really love playing at so many places in the area. at Crazy alan’s i sort of feel like the Norm of Cheers, and at t-Bone tom’s i feel like i’ve integrated into the trop-rock group, especially with one of my songs called ‘margaritas make Babies’ which is always fun to play and very Buffett-like,” he said. So what can a first-time Bryan Shayne attendee expect from a show?
“if you come to a band show, you’ll like the fact that it’s songs you like, and at either show, it’s really a fun time for everyone,” he said. “So come out, support local live music and keep coming out, so we can keep doing what we love to do! Just come and enjoy yourself!”
Catch Bryan Shayne next on July 12 at Crazy alan’s Swamp Shack in Kemah, with dates in the area throughout each month! For future shows and updates on Shayne and the band, make sure

Shaman’s Harvest: Continued From Page 47
“it was during that time we got a call from Nickelback and started playing arenas every night. We spent that summer and fall in every major city in the u.S. and Canada opening for them and for Daughtry,” he recalled. Now, the band is back headlining a tour in 2018, which will bring their unique sound back to Scout Bar in July.
“it’s hard to describe the sound. We don’t really fit the format of modern rock. We’re more of a Southern roots-y band, and you’ll hear several different genres on one record. We all have different styles, and all those things come together and make our sound what it is. it’s blues, but can also rock it hard. We don’t do it intentionally; it’s just how it comes out. We’re really just a dirty, Southern, bluesy rock band,” Fisher said. So what can first-time attendees of a Shaman’s harvest show expect?
“most of our fans are covered in sweat from yelling and dancing by the end of the show. expect it to be loud, hot, and sweaty!” Fisher laughed. Shaman’s harvest headlines Scout Bar on July 23, along with opening acts Royal Bliss, Shaving Susie, and the unknown Brothers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; show begins at 7 p.m. grab your tickets early from www.scoutbar.com – and when you go, make sure to tell them the SCeNe sent you!

LOOSE NOTES: Continued From Page 34
it was a Sunday afternoon, and we scored some really good live music taking it south into Bacliff where we checked out the action at Noah’s ark and at Katie’s. overlooking a breezy galveston Bay, mark lum was performing something different, and it was at first hard to place before reading up on his new mantra, “live to play from now on… No more playing to live!” People, there’s a difference. this music “had heart”... Mark Lum @ Chatting with mark Noah’s Ark during the break, we spoke of the many musicians who have left the area seeking their fortunes and fame, and conclude that the area is ripe for the taking. he shared his desire to see who’s around town and start up a band. Folks, this could get good… Stay in tuned….
Down the street at Katie’s, we stopped in to check out the Sunday open mic hosted by James Wilhite and scored a copy of his new CD Shadow man. James has always played the various genres over the years with an unmatched zest and in recent times, has taken his music deep into the land of Blues since relocating into the inner loop – Shadow man is his 12-song compilation of this journey into the Blues and it blisters. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Roger tausz at Bong island Sound with graphics and layout by guy Schwartz (South by Due east). helping out Wilhite on this project is a Who’s Who of local musicians we’ve heard of over the years on the SCeNe - too many to properly mention here so score yourself a copy of Shadow man before they’re sold out for your collection, and play it when you need to blow your guests away. got it? During break, James told me he’s already looking forward to his next project which should be “lots of acoustic”… until then... - Continued on Page 32

David Joel @ Jackie’s Brickhouse
last time we caught David Joel was as a soloist at Crazy alan’s Swamp Shack. We were impressed back then with this product from Beaumont and he said he had a full band that comes along when the gig pays enough. Wow, does he have a full band and the SCeNe was Jackie’s Brickhouse, where things have been mixing well. David plays a mean electric lead lick and is a master at reading what the crowd, giving people what they’re wanting. With Big texas recently shutting down, big stage country was the call and Jackie’s Brickhouse was the SCeNe.
Bay Area Houston Idol @ Jackie’s Brickhouse
in addition to taking on the honky tonk hole left with the departure of Big texas, Jackie’s Brickhouse once again hosted the Bay area idol series. emcee for the event was the ever classy mama Cass who has provided the means for aspiring vocalist of all types in our area for as long as i’ve known her. in her words, it’s all about “the muSiC, the muSiC, the muSiC.” Very wise words! the final results are elsewhere in this issue, but based on the fine semi-final talent we enjoyed, i’ve no doubt this year’s winner is a powerhouse.
Back on the subject of Country music, we stopped by Scotty’s Pub on the Bay to catch up with the galveston Bay Parrot heads honky tonking things up with time in a Bottle on the stage and local guitar hero, Randy hughes filling in on lead - all of these good on their own and this evening, a pleasing and surprising well mixed night! an unexpected and cool surprise! Cheers! Time In A Bottle Summer’s here and Scotty’s Pub @ Scotty’s Pub on the Bay Open Mic on the Bay is one of the cooler @ Vino e hangouts we’ve got happening – a good thing to know. Speaking of cool hang outs…. Formaggio We stopped in to check out Vino e Formaggio in June and am pleased to report that this place has what this area has been needing for a while - a quiet cozy comfortable hideaway to have intelligent conversations with a wide selection of fine wines, beers, and appealing snack trays. this is the ideal spot to get away from it all, rendezvous with friends, go over a business deal, or to work on that next novel. the acoustics at Vino’s is well suited for live music. musicians can check out greg Stephens open mic sessions every Wednesday. Chatting with veteran musicians in the area, it’s venues like Vino e Formaggio that the area sorely needs. Check it out and mark this place on your route... to be continued…

Donnie Stimson benefit
this is one talented band that i’m very impressed with. all of the players are talented musicians putting on a well-done gig and one i’m declaring SCeNe Party Ready. Book ’em! Perennial People’s Favorite, andy and the Dreamsicles, bent the fun needle as usual with guest fill-ins Fred linton and michael Flores raising the rumble bar in a modularly tight fashion. Perhaps the funnest treat of the day was gene Rutt and the return of the Kemah Bums to the stage. the area can use more Kemah Bums – they’re good for the spirit!
AROuND The hORN - and with that, we enjoyed an evening with the Jonas lorence Band, a nice and loud three-piece group, at t-Bone tom’s in June. lorence is a local hometown product who ventured to austin to hone his craft, and brought his band home to share their totally “up” sound. i found the music bright and refreshing, something that hopefully we’ll get a chance to hear more of. on the stage, it was easy to see these guys having bona fide Jonas Lorence Band @ T-bone Tom’s fun, which carried into the music and to the dinner crowd nicely. Keep your eye out for Jonas lorence for the next time they come this way – your ears will love you.
over on the Boardwalk has been the annual Rock the Dock Series, an event notorious for routinely packing the courtyard. We stopped by to catch Best of Both Worlds, a Van halen tribute Band along with over a couple thousand in the crowd. Frontman, Jeff Vandenberghe, did a great job in the roll of both hagar and Roth. From the reactions of the audience, the fidelity to the cover songs matched up well and to listeners delight, the set list was pretty much one album at a time of Van halen’s entire collection. Perhaps most striking were those in the crowd who were reliving the good times of the day – these were those who were clearly having the most fun. good live music can do that to people... - Continued on Page 34

Favorite Texas brewed beer? Favorite non- Saloon Door Brewing Texas brewed beer? My favorite beers that I didn’t make are probably the Martin House Salty Lady, first gose I had and it got me started on my trek into sours, and the Odell Elephant IPA, the first best IPA I had playing darts with my dad.

Your favorite beer to brew and/or your favorite beer that you brew? I really like experimenting and brewing up new stuff. Our rotating seasonal IPA spot is always fun to come up with and do something I haven’t done before with a style that I like to both drink and brew.

What beer styles or classifications do you feel could possibly be overlooked by local beer enthusiasts? It feels to me like pretty much all the praise is over the latest extreme thing in a beer, which I get, I am a fan of bold flavor. But I do think that leaves a lot of solid, classic styles off people’s radar. A malty and sessionable beer like ESB is great when you don’t want to wreck you palate with hops or your stomach with sweet, sour, or booze.
Describe a Bucket List setting or event where you hope to enjoy a beer one-day? I would love to go to the bigger beer festivals. I’ve never been. GABF and Oktoberfest in Germany are definitely on my beer bucket list.
Describe your favorite setting or event which you have enjoyed a beer? It’s hard to beat Dungeons and Dragons and Beer.
The last and/or most interesting job you held before becoming a professional brewer. I am a mechanical engineer by training and worked in oil and gas out of college before making the switch into beer.
Words of advice to anyone hoping to turn their passion of brewing and beer into a career. Be ready to sweat, and clean everything. “The state of the Texas craft beer scene is Mind blowing. It’s crazy and awesome how many new and fantastic beers are coming out. We’ve got a long way to go before catching up to what everyone else considers the beer states, but we’ve got the room for it and every day turns out another great addition to the scene.
Favorite perk and least favorite aspect of working in a brewery? The best thing about working in a brewery is making the beer. I’ve always enjoyed making things from my first LEGO set, to pinewood derby, shop class, camp fires, and now beer. The worst part of working at a brewery is the blanket of humid heat that is Houston weather 10/12 months. Like most places, our production has no climate control, so it’s fans and Gatorade all day.
If you had to start working in one other brewery starting tomorrow which brewery would it be and why? If I had to start somewhere else, I’d go out west somewhere. I got a taste for dry climates in college and I’m always tempted to go back to the desert when Houston shows off how much of a swamp it is.

PiRATes NiGhT - and did the great folks at Railean Distillery and Buccaneer Bar let it all hang out. Nearly the entire house Bilge Pump’s @ Railean Distillery & Buccaneer Bar was in full Pirate regalia, and if i were to guess, all had descendants who were on Jean lafitte’s payroll. ;-) on this evening, the Bilge Pump’s “full” band were in town, on the stage, attracted and entertained even the steadfast blues rockers with and evening of bawdy and delightfully bright ballads well past the curfew hour. We partook of the refreshing fresh powerful punches still working our way through the entire menu of libations and cheered on those who have completed the entire Railean cocktail menu. this place has one of the best air conditioners in the area and has always been on the list of fun stops of the month. Why not? seAs The DAY - it’s no secret that i like benefits and in June was a dandy for one of the areas all ’round good guy, Donnie Stimson. When it comes to live music, you can tell a lot about the band by who gets out of the house to see the show. For benefits, it’s the same way, and wow! Did the people come out! the organizers and supporters answering the bell was our first give away and topping the day off were live auction action pushing matters well into five figures. a fantastic job by Bryan Bobb and the Dirty ol geezers deems mention for cooking up the BBQ plates. these folks are serial supporters of good causes. Cheers! the live music was magical! Local Music Spotlight: By sarah Piña
those familiar with the local music circuit certainly recognize the name Bryan Shayne as a staple in the scene, one who has been entertaining area crowds both as a solo acoustic artist and a full band for several years now with his original country songs and his own spin on other favorites. What they may not know about, however, is the interesting road that brought him here.
Bryan Shayne Vince King

after some time living in mississippi and serving seven years in the air Force, Shayne began playing the casino circuit with famed american R&B, soul and gospel singer Percy Sledge, which later led to a development deal with Warner Bros. however, life ultimately led Shayne back to texas, where he has been playing in the area for the last several years, both as a solo artist and a five-piece band. the current lineup includes Shayne (vocals, acoustic guitar, lead guitar, harmonica); lee hernandez (drums); Steve Shirk (bass); John musachia (fiddle); and David Weinzappel (steel/lead), and Shayne and the band have achieved success on many levels during these past years.

SHAMAN’S HARVEST Returns to Scout Bar, July 23
By sarah Piña
Van Wilks
Saturday, July 14 T-BONE TOM’S
So many bands begin in garages and basements amongst friends, with dreams of making it “big” one day. For Shaman’s harvest, however, this dream became a reality.
What started as a garage band in mid-missouri in the late ’90s has grown into a headlining band who has since signed with a major record label, released several albums which have spawned various hit singles, and has toured extensively all over the country and Canada with major national acts.
“We were a band that come together in high school, in Jefferson City, missouri. it was something that ended up developing really quickly. We started playing at several places in the area on the weekends, covering things like zeppelin and hendrix, because that’s what we grew up listening to and what we had learned how to play,” said matt Fisher, bassist and vocalist for Shaman’s harvest.

We were so green and came out with a completely different outlook on what the music business meant, so around this time we had a shift in members,” Fisher said. the current lineup includes Josh hamler (guitar/vocals); Fisher (bass/vocals); adam zemanek (drums/vocals); Derrick Shipp (lead guitar/vocals); and Nathan hunt (lead vocals/acoustic), who in 2012 was diagnosed with throat cancer.

“We ended up signing a major record deal with a european label, and we were their first band they signed from the u.S. this kept us on the road nonstop through 2016, and we became headliners nationally in smaller venues,” Fisher said.
