A Strong Need For Cash….In Tunica! The Tunica Fall Classic Horse Show was held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 through Saturday, November 10, 2012. The show was held at the Paul Battle Jr. Arena in Tunica, Mississippi. The show was a partnership of The Celebration, FAST and the Walking Horse Trainers Association. The show was affiliated with the SHOW HIO. The presence of the USDA was there for all three nights of competition. The show started each night at 6:00 P.M. promptly. This year’s show had a whopping 535 entries. The official show host hotel was Gold Strike Casino Resort. Wednesday night prior to the show, the horse show hosted an Exhibitors Party at the Gold Strike Casino from 7-9 pm. It was held upstairs and everyone enjoyed visiting one another to kick off the start of a great show and enjoy appetizers and the cash bar. On Thursday night the performance and pleasure classes combined raised a total of $1,950 for Breast Cancer Awareness. The Judges for the show were the honorable Jamie Bradshaw from Union Grove, Alabama, Bill Cantrell from Phoenix City, Alabama and Larry Wheelon of Maryville, Tennessee. The ring masters Mark Ellis, Diana McMurtry and Mike Farley assisted the judges, while Paddock Master Mark Thomas kept the horses moving in a timely fashion. The announcer Mark Farrer did a great job announcing the entries to the ring and Organist Chase Williams kept the tempo upbeat. Mike Inman was the show manager while Connie Allen and Margaret Eakin assisted as being show secretaries. Center Ring Coordinator Gloria Ellis and Office Manager Dee Cantrell helped to make the show a success. Show photographer Shane Shiflet caught all the action shots in center ring and Clay Avent was on hand to assist as the show farrier. The Premier Sponsorship included ringside tables and dinners each night that consisted of Jambalaya one night, Fish Fry including yummy catfish and steaks for the final evening. There were three special exhibitions to break up each evening’s competition. Thursday night, Dale Watts showed off the reigning Three Year Old World Grand Champion, Jose It Ain’t So, for owner Deborah Williams. Friday night, Nine Gold and Michael Wright showed off. Their championship was for owners Dr. Bill and Denise McMillian. This duo was the Two Year Old World Grand Champion at the TWHNC. On Saturday night, Miss Lilly Waites took a spin on her World Grand Champion, Prime Poison, for her home town state. The show started its 62 class event with the Model class winning this class by unanimous decision was Trigger Treat presented by Jeff Givens for proud owner Jo Ann Dowell of Canton, Ohio. This gorgeous gelding recently won the East Tennessee Fall Classic and the South Carolina Championship show in Clemson, South Carolina leading up to this premier show. There were several unique classes at the show that aren’t at your every Saturday night horse show those were the FAST Walking To End Breast Cancer Performance and Pleasure class, the Mississippi Owned Specialty class and the Andy Adkins Memorial Youth Specialty Championship class. This year the Youth Championship class was given in memory of Andy Adkins and each entry was given a Boston Red Sox hat to wear in honor of Andy. Another special thing was that the officials, judges and center ring staff also wore the hat during this special event. To make this class even more unique, Buddy Stasney donated $50.00 to each juvenile rider. A very special and proud supporter of the walking horses, Terry Click of Memphis, TN, was delighted to donate an extra $500.00 to the Andy Adkins Juvenile Championsip winner and another $200.00 to the winning trainer. The reigning Youth 12-17 World Grand Champions, Pushing That Jazz and Robert Cortner won this prestigious title. The final class was called to the ring to vie for top honors in the Walking Horse Stake Class. Four top entries made the gate call as announcer Mark Farrar announced each entry. Buddy Stasney donated the Stake Class entry fee for the first twenty entries. Leaving the ring with the blue and floral horse shoe and the honor of hitting the jackpot in Tunica, was A Strong Need For Cash with Michael Wright for owners Jim and Jeannie Roberts. This small bay stallion always is a crowd favorite and he showed off his championship ways to claim top honors. Reserve in the class was World Grand Champion, He’s Slim Shady and Jimmy McConnell for proud owners Bill and Karen Bean of Horsin’ Around Ranch. THE SCOOP was proud to be on hand to capture everyone’s blue ribbon candids and celebrate the big wins. Whether you won a blue or just enjoyed your time playing on the slot machine, Tunica was a great place to get away, especially with horse show friends. GENERATOR’S FREEFALLING AND JUSTIN TAYLOR END THE SEASON IN BLUE RIBBON STYLE! RICHMOND, KY – The Madison County Horse Show was held at Madison County Fairgrounds in Richmond, KY on November 3, 2012. As four o’clock rolled around, trailers started pulling in from all over Kentucky. Familiar faces could be seen all across the fairgrounds and, as the show got underway, the familiar sound of Shannon Perkins on the organ filled the indoor arena. The announcer, Danny Reynolds, called a total of 144 entries to the gate. The East Tennessee Trainers Association Horse Show

The East Tennessee Trainers Association held their 9th annual horse show at the Great Smoky Mountain Expo Center in White Pine, TN on November 2-3, 2012. The show started on Friday night at 6:00 pm and on Saturday night at 5:00 pm. Both nights the show had a 15 minute break. On Friday night the Stick Horse class was presented in the ring for all the entries to get a Ribbon. On Saturday night the Lead Line Class was presented for all the young ones to claim their blue ribbons. The show had 48 classes packed with great competition along with 16 of the classes being Riders Cup Classes. The judges for the two night show were Dean Byard, Bill Cantrell and Allen Foreman. The photographer to capture the winning action shots was Natasha Douglas, she was assisted by Ring Master Darrell Gillian. Doug Trent was on hand as the farrier on call. John French Brantley was the organist and he kept everyone upbeat with great tunes. Show Manager Lisa Anderson has been the show secretary since the beginning and the trainers really appreciate the time and effort she spends in making the show an amazing event year after year. This year the show was affiliated with the SHOW HIO for the very first time. In addition, the show was affiliated with the ETWHA and the NCWHA for the points system. Many people helped the trainers as well as the show secretary. Lisa Anderson and the trainers wish to thank these people for their efforts and for making the show a success, Linda Wheelon, Sandy Epling, Debbie McGill, Tami Triplet, Rousty Rouse, Dee Cantrell, Hayley Baumgardner, Lisa McKay, Kim Derrick, Regina Gregg and the other center ring volunteers. The Costume Class was a huge hit and Miss Tori Baxter and friend were the class winners representing the Wizard of Oz theme. The classes were exciting. The final three classes were really special since they featured some hard working individuals. The Grooms Class and the East Tennessee Ladies Auxiliary Class led up to the final class. The Groom’s Class had more cheers and applause than any other class of the weekend! First in this fun class was Stepping John with Adar Serrano for owner Charles Garner representing Chris Pickle Stables. The final class of the evening was called to the gate on Saturday night with five top entries making the gate. Winning the stake class by unanimous decision was Jose’s Don Julio with Brent Coburn in the irons presented by Winding Creek Farm for proud owner Fred Randolph. Reserve in this great class was Naples Ritz with Scott Beaty riding for the Fred Allred family. Congratulations to the winners at the East Tennessee Trainers Show and to the Trainers for having a great show. For more information visit THE SCOOP’s free website at www.thescooponline.com.
