Mississippi Charity Horse Show JACKSON, MS-The 83rd Annual Mississippi Charity Horse Show was held in Jackson Mississippi at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center. The three night horse show was held March 28, 29 and 30, 2013. The judges for the show were Steve Beam, Jennifer Bingham, Derek Bonner, Dickie Scrivner and Robbie Spiller. Three judges were selected for each class. Everyone really liked this judging approach. The Show benefited the Children of The Blair E. Batson Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Southern Hospitality was as always, with a crawfish boil and live auction on Saturday as well as the breakfast served each morning. The fun Margarita Meet and Greet was a huge hit as well. There was a large turnout with over 500 entries. Finishing the show up with all the honors was Puttin Cash On The Line with Jimmy McConnell in the irons for Molly Walters of Rancho Mirage, CA. This duo won the Stake class by Unanimous decision as well as the Five & Over Stallions 15.2 & Over class by Unanimous choice on the judge’s panel. John Puckett aboard A Showdown for Double B Farm was reserve in this great class of four top entries.

Detha Yoder was all smiles when Laura Waites took her photo with her SCOOP Then and Now ad at the Mississippi Charity Horse Show.

THE SCOOP congratulates all the winners from the Mississippi Charity Horse Show and was glad to showcase your champion in our publication. Make plans to attend Next Year’s Event and visit their website for more information at www.mscharityhorseshow.com.

The Scoop For The Walking Horse Industry TWHBEA Enjoys Successful Equitana Lewisburg, TN - The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) was, once again, honored to present our great breed at Equitana. Held in March 16th - 24th in Essen, Germany, Equitana remains the world’s largest fair for equestrian sport. TWHBEA has attended Equitana each time it has been held over the past 20 years. Over that time, interest in the Tennessee Walking Horse has grown. At the same time, word of the breed has spread so that now, instead of asking for basic information about the breed, fair goers are asking for test rides and more detailed descriptions of its capabilities. At this year’s event, the Tennessee Walking Horse was exhibited three times each day, each time in a different arena. In addition, the breed booth was visited by countless fair goers. A number of people became new TWHBEA members and breed literature was distributed all around. “TWHBEA was thrilled to participate on one of the world’s largest equine stages and showcase our great horse. This opportunity was made possible through our association and membership with USLGE and our strong European membership,” states Owners/Exhibitors/International Vice President Jason Bachert. Special thanks to all of the volunteers that made TWHBEA’s presence a possibility. Monique van der Putten, Katrin Marg, Katja Alberts and Denise & Russell Keyser exhibited their horses while Nadine Moser, Claudia Willems, Ulrike Munnes-Jugert, Tom & Steffi Jörres, Denise DeNie, Fons Dingelhoff, Meike Obermann, Kristin Vahrenbrink, Lena Wiese, Maryan Zyderfeld, Bärbel Ossowski, Christina Schmilz, Karin Sclater and Christian, Heike & Franziska Gebhard manned the breed booth.

TWHBEA to Institute Unfortunate Decrease in Employee Compensation Lewisburg, TN - Due to drastic reductions in revenue, all employees of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ And Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) will endure a decrease in their compensation of at least 20%. Starting April 26, 2013, the Association will no longer operate on Fridays. “I am very sorry that we are forced to make this change as it affects each and every one of our very loyal and dedicated employees as well as our members and those wishing to conduct business with the Association. We know that a Friday closing will negatively affect some of our members, and we deeply regret that inconvenience. Our loyal staff will now be processing five days work in four days at a substantial reduction in pay. We are so disappointed that they must endure this hardship.” states TWHBEA President Tracy Boyd. The decision to have the Association close on Fridays was made because, historically, Fridays are the slowest days for customer and member activity. The across the board 20% cut to employee compensation will produce a savings of approximately $115,000 that will work to offset the reduction in income that TWHBEA has been experiencing over the past several months. In addition, two employees will begin a two-day work week which also contributes to the $115,000 annual savings. The Association’s Executive Committee will meet to discuss additional ways to offset expenses during a planning session prior to the May semi-annual International Board of Directors meeting.

the 34th Annual International Performance Show MURFREESBORO, TN-April 6, 2013 was the date that the Walking Horse Owners Association set up for their new date for the 34th Annual International Performance Show that was postponed last fall. The Miller Coliseum was home to the International horse show and the WHOA staff and Tommy Hall did an excellent job putting on a first class show. The judges for the Performance show were the Honorable Tommy Howell of Shelbyville, TN, Bill Bobo of Shelbyville, TN and Paul Livingston of Church Hill, TN. To show at the International the riders must obtain a WHOA card or have a WHTA Trainers license. One neat thing the Novice division at the Internationals show isn’t just for the show season, but its anyone who hasn’t won a Blue ribbon in 2012 or 2013 which made it a little more exciting for people to compete to earn the blue. The Amateur Fine Harness division started the night off with the Head family taking home the blue with Extra Good Looking with Donna Head at the whip. Also The Head’s carried the blue back with Gold Poison in the Amateur Owned and Trained ranks. Allison Thorson showed her spectacular Championship style to claim the Equitation division blue with her equine mount Santana’s Renaissance Man. The Amateur Show Pleasure class was a large class of great horses and Raining Gold with Heidi McWilliams topped this division. Star and Wilsene Moody-Kwok showed off this flashy style by exhibition to the blue in the Amateur 50 & Over class. Laraine Rosbury and Gen’s Black Diamond were the Amateur Park Performance Champions for Maple Crest Farms. The Show Pleasure Open class was won by the gorgeous gray horse Straight Line with Charlie Green up for very proud owner Carolyn DeLeon. The final class of the evening was called to the arena and everyone was excited to watch the stake horses compete. The winner of the International Performance Show Walking Horse Stake Grand Champion was It’s My Main Man with Winky Groover in the irons for Rising Star Ranch. Reserve was Jose’s Dr Pepper with Charlie Green for owners Don and Lucky Collins.

He’s My Main Man and Winky Groover were the International Grand Champions Stake winners for Rising Star Ranch.

Yeah Now....Yadkinville, North Carolina YADKINVILLE, NC-The Rowland McLauglin benefit show was held at the Yadkinville North Carolina Lonestar indoor Covered Arena on March 30, 2013 at 4:00pm. The weather was perfect for all the great horses and owners to come together to compete in the first North Carolina horse show. Lonnie Messick of Murfreesboro, TN was the honorable and popular judge. One of the main memories of this show will be by John and Ann Callicutt’s son, Luke, with a great personality, as he carried his camouflage Easter Basket, hiding eggs for all the children and adults to find, and then they got to hide them so it could be Luke’s turn. The last class, the Walking Horse Championship Stake was soundly won by the Baucom entry, Double Bogey Blues, owned by Buddy Stasney. This is an outstanding, bold going horse. The people would also like to thank Buddy for making a tremendous donation so that the Yadkinville show could take place. Buddy has been an instrumental ambassador to the Tennessee Walking Horse Industry making it possible for owners and riders to have the opportunities and place to show. Along with other individuals that donated to the show for a great benefit. John Weihl won the raffle and with his usual generous way donated the winnings back to the show. World Champions, Reserve World Champions and other marvelous horses competed in the Yadkinville show, to give the audience an exciting set of horses to see and judge. Thanks to everyone for coming to Yadkinville and making it a great success! THE SCOOP was honored to attend the first show of the season for North Carolina and looks forward to helping NC horses, riders, owners and trainers advertise their champions throughout the 2013 show season.
