Jose Revival and Casey Wright won the Walking Horse Stake class for owners Bill and Debbie Woods. SHELBYVILLE, TN- On Thursday, July 22nd, the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association held their annual Summer Sizzler Horse Show at the Calsonic Arena. The show was divided in two sections. The early afternoon Halter Show was judged by Newton Parks and the Evening Show was judged by Jamie Bradshaw. This show set the tone for a very competitive summer weekend for the industry’s top Walking Horses. The stallion divisions were strong, as well as, many other classes. Wining the Two Year Old Stallions was Gin’s Slingblade with Rico Bravo in the irons for Jerry Stephens. The Three Year Old victors were Honor And Salute and Tyler Baucom for Kerry DeArmond, while Link Webb directed Dixie Road to the Four Year Old title for Kilgore and Barnes. The final class had two entries that competed for the Walking Horse Grand Championship. Wearing the roses on the final victory lap was Jose Revival and Casey Wright. Bill and Debbie Woods own the champion. The reserve award went to Jimmy McConnell and He’s Whiskey Cavalier for the Meadows and Myers partnership.

Lewisburg Show Celebrates

LEWISBURG, TN- The Marshall County Horseman’s Association hosted the 45th Annual Horse Show on Friday, July 23rd. This event was held at the Marshall County Expo Center. Eight Riders’ Cup classes were offered. Show ofﬁcials consisted of Wayne Dean and Herb Miller- show chairmen, Freda Dean- secretary, James Elliott- farrier, Chip Walters- announcer, Brian Peery- organist and the Honorable Scott Beaty- judge. The show ended with the Walking Horse Championship. Really Coach and Incredible Machine competed for the coveted title. Really Coach and Rodney Dick took home the top prize for owners Denny Russell and Carol Missildine. Edgar Abernathy and Incredible Machine took the reserve award for owner Linda Stewart. The Scoop congratulates all of the Lewisburg champions.

Joe Pa Crowned King

of the Red Carpet PULASKI, TN- The historic Red Carpet Show of the South took place in Pulaski on July 24th. Mike Hilley marked the cards. The host venue was the Giles County Agriculture Park. The Rotary Club of Pulaski hosted the horse show and this year’s event marked their 81st anniversary. The first class of the night was the All Day Pleasure class. Winning the blue was WhitLei Green with A Wicked Bond. The final class of the historic show was the Walking Horse Championship. Four talented entries answered the gate call. Winning the coveted title was Joe Pa with Winky Groover in the irons for Brian and Tanya Strickland. Since this crowning moment, Joe Pa is now owned under a new partnership of Brian and Tanya Strickland and Shane and Veronica Porterfield. Joe Pa has won blues this year from the WHTA Trainers’ Show, the FAST Spring Showcase and now the Red Carper Show of the South. Winning the reserve award in the Walking Horse Championship was Hey Tomcat with Jamie Lawrence in the irons. Rounding out the top three was Gin’s Shadow with Jimmy McConnell. The Scoop was delighted to capture your special memories in the winners’ circle.

BAILEYTON, AL- The Roger Latham Memorial Horse Show took place in the picturesque southern town of Baileyton, Alabama on July 30th. The host venue was the Baileyton Park. Walking Horses competed while the Honorable Amber Zahnd served as judge. The Park Performance Amateur class was the show’s largest division. Taking top honors in this great class was Me And My World with Anna Bigham in the irons. The Walking Horse Championship welcomed two entries. Riding out with the top award was He’s Pushin The Dollar with Steve Beam up for Bob and Roxy Cole. The reserve award went to The Yellowstone and Jamie Lawrence for owner Kay Easterling.

Walking Horses Visit NEWPORT

NEWPORT, TN- The East Tennessee Walking Horse Association Ladies Auxiliary Horse Show was held on July 31st. Mike Sims of Shelbyville, Tennessee judged the event. Walking Horses and Racking Horses filled the arena throughout the night vying for the blue ribbon. The three largest classes were part of the pleasure division. The Racking Trail Pleasure crowned Dangerous Duchess and Chelsea Harvey as the winners. The Trail Pleasure Amateur champions were Pistol’s Seniorita and Monica Tipton while the Go As You Please champions were I Am Fine As Crystal and Monica Tipton.

I’m Sky High and Brandon Ailshie won the Racking Specialty Action Stake class for owner Greg Kaiser. Miss Empty Pockets and Cindy Bryant claimed the reserve award. The Walking Horse Stake class had two entries. The winning entry was Cash Agenda and Chris Helton for owner Al Morgan. The reserve award went to Ice Cold Gold and Allen Abee for owner Tom Shipman. The Scoop congratulates all of the Newport winners.

SPOTLIGHT Brother and sister Daniel and Aubrey Schmidt are the children of Courtney West and grandchildren of Larry and Elsie West. They have happily go en horse fever that was naturally passed on to them from their grandparents and mother, all who have been active equestrians at some point. It is always a pleasure to capture a photograph of these youngsters. They are always happy and smiling because they love the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. Daniel’s 2021 youth contender is Generated By Folsom and Aubrey, who started her show career this year, rides Tejano. Good luck to Daniel and Aubrey as they continue showing!

Bill and Debbie Woods are certainly no strangers in the Walking Horse industry. They are associated with many great horses like I Am Lady Wolf, I Am March Madness, I Am Angelique and this year’s World Grand Champion contender, Jose Revival. But the one most recognized is Three Time World Grand Champion I Am Jose. Bill and Debbie Woods are two of the kindest and most genuine people in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. The Scoop is very thankful for every opportunity to advertise their lineup of outstanding champions.

Finley Brooks has had quite the year with some outstanding rides. She has entered the ring five times winning three blues and one reserve. Her equine partners are Martinis At Seven and Cash Reaction. She and Martinis At Seven won the Trail Pleasure Youth division at Manchester, Tennessee and Waynesville, North Carolina. Her most recent win was at the TWHBEA Summer Sizzler with Cash Reaction in the TWHBEA/FAST Youth Medallion Canter Performance class. The Scoop congratulates Finley and we wish her continued success.

SPOTLIGHT Chester and Debbie Marbry’s smiles say it all. Tennessee Walking Horses make them very happy. This couple has made some great memories throughout the years. 2021 is proving to be a stellar year for them, as well. Slingblade, She’s Worthy Of Honor, Twenty One Gunn Salute, TN Lineman and Deal With It have provided the couple with some beautifully colored ribbons, most being blue and red. It is always a pleasure to chat with Chester and Debbie in the winners’ circle. The Scoop loves advertising for this awesome couple.

If you’ve ever seen Brenda Marmon at a horse show, odds are you have seen her faithful canine companion, Bridge , following her. Brenda has been showing horses for years and she is quite an equestrian. This year, her lineup has included some great horses like Knock Knock, Master Of Design, Jose’s Bambino and Record High. She is pictured with Jamen Smith. Brenda recently shared the reins of Jose’s Bambino at the Horse Play Kids Show in Manchester, Tennessee. The two celebrated together a er Jamen won the blue. The Scoop is always delighted to showcase Brenda’s champions.

Howard and Briann Eastridge are always proud of their horses. They own It’s Grey Goose, He’s Southern Rock, Honor And Obey and Twisted With Honors. Howard and Briann are tremendous ambassadors for the Tennessee Walking Horse industry. They have owned and shown horses for years and can be seen supporting numerous horse shows throughout the show year, even when they aren’t showing. That is true dedication and support! Furrs Community-Robert D anny G attis, 74, departed this life for his life eternal on Monday, August 2, 20 21 from his beloved farm/ residence in the Furrs Community of Pontotoc County after an ex tended illness. A big ole fellow with a generous and spirited soul, D anny loved the land and outdoors, his horses, his antiq ue cars, his hot rods, trucking but most of all, his family which were the light of his life. D anny was born on November 2, l9 46 in Tupelo to the late Robert ( D oc) G attis and Keron Hutcheson G attis. He grew up here and graduated from Bass Memorial Academy in Lumberton, MS. D anny continued his studies at ICC and attended Mississippi State U niversity afterwards. He married Barbara Rainey G attis in Pontotoc on October 3, 19 81. The open road was always a pull for D anny and he spent 57 years of his life in the trucking industry. At his death, he was the owner/ operator of D iamond G . D anny loved fast cars and was a drag racer in his younger years. He was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association, the Racking Horse Association and the Spotted Horse Association. A grateful family ex presses their love and appreciation for his life and ex tends a special thanks to the Swing bed staff at Pontotoc Hospital and to Kindred Hospice for the ex cellent care they gave their husband, dad and Papaw. Ste e ohe o ﬁ t n B o owe n ee e o n e on D anny is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara; son, Stephen Tidwell of Furrs; daughter, Stephanie Elliott and husband, J ames of Tuscumbia, Ala. his grandchildren, Meagan Cade ( J erry) of Caledonia, Ms. , Morgan ( Kaleb) Holt of Mellwood, Ar. , Chris Elliott ( Kailey) of Tuscumbia, Al. and Cindy Elliott of Corinth. his great grandchildren, Maddy Tidwell, Kenslee Holt and Bentlee Holt and one on the way, J onAlex Cade. ; his sister, Susan Allday ( D evon) of Montpelier, Ms. his nieces and nephews and a host of friends all over the country and other near relatives. Pallbearers will be Stephen Tidwell, J ames Elliott, Chris Elliott, Kaleb Holt, J erry Cade and D evon Allday.
