The B edford County A griculture Center was the host site for the 22nd A nnual L iberty L ions Club Horse S how that took place on F riday, J une 1 8 th. R uss Thompson marked the cards for the 3 0 classes. S how M anager P aul G ambill was please to report 1 20 horses were entered. The young stallions’ classes were ﬁerce, and each division welcomed the largest classes of the night. The R iders’ Cup Two Y ear O ld S tallions had six entries. Tanner B urks directed The Te as Shade to the blue for owner Shane orterﬁeld. A Shade f Jose and Tyler Baucom won the reserve award for r. and rs. ric Lackey. Terry anier’s entry, P atrick M ahomes, claimed top honors in the R iders’ Cup Three Y ear O ld S tallions class with Tyler Baucom in the irons. inky roover and Chaotic received the red ribbon for owner Judy Case. inning over the crowd and the udge in the iders’ Cup

F our Y ear O ld S tallions class was the duo of D ix ie R oad and L ink Webb. R iding to the reserve pri e was Chad ay aboard Curly Bill for owner Sherri ollack. The Amateur ive ver ares eldings division was another large class with horses that have won numerous titles, collectively. iding to the blue was ebbie ichler with her e uine partner, ndercover Boss. ising Star anch owns the champion. r. Jim Baum directed ocket Time to the reserve award for owner Lisa Baum. The ﬁnal class was the alking Horse Championship. The horse show’s grand ﬁnale was q uite magical for L isa M cM ahan. J immy M cConnell directed her entry, M agic’s ure it to the final award and the tri colored ribbon. Barron and Bill Callaway received the red ribbon for owner us ing. The Scoop commends the Liberty Lions Club for hosting a wonderful show. Congratulations are ex tended to each new champion.

OBITUARY - SANDRA HALL S andra E laine Wallace Hall, age 6 9 , entered into rest on Thursday, J une 1 7 , 2021 , with her family by her side. F uneral services will be 4 : 00 P M F riday, J uly 2, 2021 , at Z oar U nited M ethodist Church ( 28 4 2 Z oar R oad, Cheraw, S C 29 5 20) by P astor B illy J ack J ohnson, with remarks by family friend, M ark F arrar. A Celebration of L ife was held on F riday, J uly 2, 2021 , at allace arm ( Shiloh Acres oad, Chesterfield, SC ). Sandra was born ecember , , in Chesterfield, SC, the daughter of the late o ier and oye allace. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, attended ingate College, and received her bachelor’s degree from L enoir- R hyne U niversity. I n 1 9 8 4 , S andra started S andra . Hall hotography, speciali ing in e uestrian events across the country. She involved her whole family and passed down her passion for horses. Her efforts not only helped the industry over the years but her ex ample of tireless enthusiasm and positivity for the horses and people she loved will be remembered by all. Her love for the horses, coupled with her involvement with the U nited P rofessional Horseman’s A ssociation ( U P HA ) and the A merican S addlebred A ssociation of the Carolinas ( A S A C) , reaches back many years. S he was inducted into the 201 6 U P HA Carolina’s S addlehorse Hall of F ame and received A S A C’s L ifetime A chievement A ward in 201 8 . S andra was a lifetime member of Z oar U M C where she served on the O utreach Committee and was a member of U nited M ethodist Women. S andra had a true servant’s heart, always giving and ex pected nothing in return. S he was dedicated, outgoing, and approached life with a smile. Her legacy will live on, not only through the sel ess e ample she set but also through the memories she captured in millions of photographs. “ Well done good and faithful servant… come and share your M aster’s happiness.” M atthew 25 : 23 n addition to her parents, Sandra was also preceded in death by her brother, o ier ranklyn ( F rankie) Wallace, J r. R aymond Huey “ B uddy” Wilhelm J r., age 7 0, of P etersburg Tennessee, passed from this life M onday, J une 21 , 2021 , at M aury R egional M edical Center. B uddy was born J uly 1 0, 1 9 5 0, in New Hope, A labama. He was the son of the late R aymond Huey Wilhelm S r. and D orothy V irginia B uford Wilhelm. He was a lifelong farmer, raised on his family’s farm in the B elfast Community where he loved hard work, walking horses, and the farm life, raising beef cattle, working hay and spending time with his family. He was a member of Tennessee Walking Horse B reeders’ and E x hibirors’ A ssociation and M arshall County F armers CO - O P S urvivors include: loving wife of 5 0 years, V ickie L ynn P ickle Wilhelm; Children; R ichard ( K ristin) Wilhelm of S helbyville, and L ori ( Tant) M ason of B elfast; sister, A nnette R odgers of L ewisburg; brothers, M ike Wilhelm of M urfreesboro, and J ohnny G lenn Wilhelm of P etersburg; grandchildren; Cali, and K ate M ason, Hunter and G race Wilhelm; also several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held on S aturday, J une 26 th at R ound Hill Cemetery in the Belfast Community with r. OBITUARY- JOYCE JOHNSON M rs. J oyce M alone J ohnson, a resident of M urfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away on S unday, J une 1 3 , 2021 at the age of 8 9 . M rs. J ohnson was born on F ebruary 1 5 , 1 9 3 2 in S mithville, Tennessee. S he was a daughter of the late E rnest M alone and Claudia G rooms M alone. A lso preceding her in death was her husband, retired A merican A irlines Captain, Charles R . “ Cotton” J ohnson and a sister, J udy M alone Cox . M rs. J ohnson pioneered the S tewardess Corp with A merican A irlines and later moved to Chicago as Chief S tewardess between 1 9 5 2 and 1 9 5 7 . S he was also very active in her community. M rs. J ohnson served as D irector of the Housing A uthority in S helbyville for ﬁve years and served the city of the Shelbyville on the Beer Board. rs. Johnson earned her realtors license and worked for 25 years, becoming P resident of M iddle Tennessee B oard of R ealtors. S he was also an active member of the K iwanis Club where she served as P resident. M rs. J ohnson is survived by daughter, L esa Charlynn ( Char) J ohnson of M urfreesboro, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews. The family will hold a private service at a later date. The family re uests memorials in rs. Johnson’s memory to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The S coop sends our warmest condolences to Char and her family.

Debbie Smothers and Bourbon N Blue won the Classic Country Pleasure E nglish Amateur class.

Storm Chaser and Lynn M acGregor took the blue in the Riders’ Cup Lite Shod Canter class.

The Classic All Day Pleasure Youth AOT class champions were Just Charlotte and Laura Gilliam. Philip Gilliam also collected a blue with Just Charlotte in the Classic All Day Pleasure AOT Five & Under class.

I n the words of the great D avid Williams, it was a “ Camp of Champions.” The reality is this group of girls is a mix ture of world grand champion, world champion and novice riders. There are kids that have been showing their whole lives and some that are j ust beginning. The camp consisted of three fun filled days incorporating camaraderie with real life horse ex periences. E ach day the youth riders were lunging, riding, bathing and clipping horses. D ay one , the crew headed to R ising S tar R anch. D avid Williams gave the girls a tour where they met several stallions. They also got to observe the vet checking mares. The highlight had to be the photo shoot with the great J ose J ose. What a true gentleman! ! A trip to the movies to see “ Cruella” completed the day with some time for the girls to get to know each other on a more casual level. D ay two, after more riding and lessons, they held a D Q P clinic. E ach participant was instructed about the importance of the D Q P and how to take their horses through the process. They ended the day with hot dogs and a pool party! D ay three, they took a trip to E q uiknox F arm where they didn’t j ust get to watch their trainers take a spin on the famous r. Heisman but they got to ride a padded horse themselves This was a first for some of the youth riders and one of their favorite parts of camp! E ach daily ex perience included the importance of promoting our great breed. The traditions of the Tennessee Walking horse are like no other. I n order to continue these traditions, we must continue to educate our youth. With the hustle and bustle of showing, the time for actually getting to know each other can be a real struggle for our youth. These kids are all part of the JLS team but often find themselves competing against each other! A n ultimate goal of this camp was to allow our riders to ex perience each other on a more personal level and enj oy their horses. Not unlike other goals set by the J L S team, this ex ceeded all ex pectations. The camp participates included K ylie D uvall, R aigan and J acalyn G ardner, R iley G regory, Taylor Harvey, Caroline and Carson S ells, and A bi and L ex i S mith. They would like to thank J oe L ester, Crystal D eputy, and especially B ailey M omb for presenting them with such a wonderful opportunity!

S he is an apprentice in a new initiative collectively sponsored by the Tennessee D epartment of A griculture, The U nited S tates D epartment of A griculture, The U .S . L ivestock G enetics E x port, I nc., and the Tennessee Walking Horse A ssociation. elfi will spend the month getting instruction, while working with Laurie Toone, owner of Circle T S tables in S helbyville, TN on further development in the natural gaits of the Tennessee Walking Horse. With the knowledge gained in the 1 - month program that began J une 8 , 2021 , she can offer the growing number of TWH M ex ican owners and ex hibitors’ ex pertise to competitively develop their horses and increase the demand to purchase and import highly trained registered Tennessee alking Horses. f you see elfi, please say hello and give her a warm welcome!

DANDRI DGE, TN- The 4 5 th Annual Chestnut Hill Charity took place on June 25 th and 26 th. The picturesq ue town of Chestnut Hill welcomed some of the leading contenders in the Walking and Racking industries. The Honorable Gary Wayne Smith marked the cards.

Kara Graham and I’m Dix ie Blue won the Lite Shod Plantation class.

The Walking Horse Championship had one horse to enter the ring. Cash Agenda and Chris Helton were in blue ribbon form as they claimed the title for owner Al Morgan. Two entries answered the gate call in the Racking Specialty Action Championship. K ing Of K ool and Bryan Barnhill claimed the top prize for owner Lyn Lewis. The reserve award went to He’s Buck Wild and Chelsey Harvey for Franklin Harvey. The Scoop congratulates all of the Chestnut Hill Charity winners.

Stanford Welcomes Charitable Show

STANFORD, K Y - The Walking For Hope Horse Show was a charitable event that took place on Saturday, June 19 th at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Stanford, K entucky. The 3 3 classes were judged by Chad Adams. Show management was pleased to announce 9 0 recorded entries.

Stacy Jacks

The largest classes of the show welcomed ﬁve entries or more. They were the Amateur 15 .2 & Under class and the Three Y ear Old class. Sherry Bonner and World Series hit a home run in the Amateur 15 .2 & Under division for owner Paul Bertram. The reserve award went to Lane View’s Master and Lexi Grabowski for owner Travis Wiley. Coach Bella and RM K ellett claimed top honors in the Three Y ear Old class for owner Charles Gleghorn. Ryan Blackburn directed 10 Carat Charlie to the reserve title for the Woody Woodruﬀ Family. The Walking Horse Championship welcomed two entries. A Big Honor and Ryan Blackburn were crowned the champions for owner Dwight Hopper. BEYOND THE RING with JoAnna Mitchell

JoAnna’s first show was in a Lead Line class in Arab, Alabama on Late Night Delight, a horse borrowed from a friend. She doesn’t remember much about the night. However, one thing that sticks out in her mind was she had to coach her dad (who was at the lead) about what he needed to do. At the young age of six, she received her very own horse named The Ra e. As the years went by, Joanna continued working hard, becoming the skilled rider she is today. In 2019, she received her first blue ribbon at the Roger Latham Memorial in the Youth 12-1 class on Busy Line. This horse is still carrying the family to the winner’s circle. JoAnna and Busy Line recently claimed top honors in the Show Pleasure class at this year’s West Georgia Charity. Other contenders owned by The Mitchell Family are Tha Pink Panther and Master Of The Ritz. JoAnna has made many wonderful memories showing horses, but she fondly recalls her favorite being at the 2021 Southern Championships when she and Tha Pink Panther won their first blue ribbon as partners.

Dungannon Welcomes Horses

DUNGANNON, VA- The Mountain States Horse Show took place on June 12th at the Scott County Horse Park. The Walking Horses and Racking Horses competing for blue ribbons were judged by Mike Carter. Numerous exhibitors collected more than one win at this show. Collecting two blues were Chelsey Harvey, Tim Towns, Lilly Horne, Eric Johnson, Amy Brumley, Anita Bradshaw and Taylor France. Chris ahnd was the big winner of the night, making three victory laps. One of those wins took place in the ﬁnal class, the Walking Horse Championship. Zahnd directed The Coach’s Son to top honors for owner Brock Wampler. Receiving the red ribbon in the Walking Horse Stake was Jazz’s Magic Man and Brandon Givens for owner Steve Davis. The Winﬁeld Riding Club hosted the West Virginia Summer Classic for Walking, Racking and Spotted Horses on June 18th & 19th. This horse show was a Triple Point Show for the Appalachian Walking/Racking Horse Association (AWRHA). Becky Barnes, Kemp Martin and Donnie May made up the judges’ panel. Show management reported 341 entries. The big winners of the two-day show were Chelsey Harvey and Caroline Stanley. H o s t s I n au g u r a l S h o w LITTLE ROCK, AR- The very first TWHBEA Razorback Classic was held on June 19, 2021 at the Barton Equestrian Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. This horse show had two sessions: a morning session with ten classes and an evening session with 31 classes. The Honorable Tom Kakassy served as the judge. Show Manager Margo Urad was pleased to announce 82 entries were recorded for the inaugural event. The Country Pleasure AOT class was one of the largest of the horse show. Finally Midnight and owner Abby White received top honors. The reserve award went to Puttin’ On The Jazz with owner Johnny Taylor in the irons. Other large and competitive divisions were the All Day Pleasure Youth class and the Country Pleasure Amateur class. Taking the victory lap in the All Day Pleasure Youth class was I’m Pocahontas with Corbin Curlee in the irons for owner Abby Curlee. Second place honors went to The Sky Ram and Amelia Canfield for owner Kara Canfield. Abby White directed her entry, Finally Midnight, to a second blue ribbon after winning the Country Pleasure Amateur class. Ritz’s Playboy and Ginny Tanner claimed the reserve award for owner Barbara Chapman. TWHBEA is the force behind the Youth Medallion classes. Incredible Wolf and Corbin Curlee took the top prize in the TWHBEA/FAST Youth Medallion Canter Pleasure division for owner Rick Roberson. Corbin Curlee also claimed the top award in the TWHBEA/FAST Youth Medallion Canter Performance division. This win was aboard Bull Durham for owners Phillip and Abbie Curlee. The final class of the event was the Walking Horse Championship. Two entries answered the gate call. Edgar Abernathy directed Incredible Machine to the win for owner Linda Stewart. TWHNC RELEASES FINAL SCHEDULE The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration formed a committee in late 2020 to help prepare this year’s class schedule. This group carefully reviewed former class schedules, past participation and considered recommendations given by the public. The ﬁnal class schedule for the 83rd Annual Celebration has now been released. Serving on this committee were Jennifer Bingham (chair), Nathan Clark, Howard Hamilton, Justin Jenne’, Laurie Toone, and Amy Trimble.
