Members of the North Carolina Walking Horse Association enjoyed a fun day on March 5th when the association held their Sneak Preview and Fun Show. Chad Adams marked the cards for the event that welcomed 10 classes. Four of those classes boasted five or more entries. Those wellattended classes and their winners included Country Pleasure Keg Shod Amateur English (A Dirty Deal with Dean Crawford), Country Pleasure Keg Shod Amateur Western (A Dirty Deal with Dean Crawford), All Day Pleasure (Miss Dixie Line with Pat Ireland) and Trail Pleasure Amateur Western (Retribution with Gerold Ross).

SCKWHA AWARDS BANQUET
The 44th Annual SCKWHA awards banquet was held at the beautiful Barren River Resort in Lucas,KY, on March 12,2022. There were over 170 in attendance on a cold and snowy night. But the weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit for fun. The night began with a delicious buffet provided by the Lodge. The excitement began with a VERY successful auction that goes to support scholarships of several youth members. Next were the highly anticipated awards which were handed out in many categories. The trophies were lovely and appreciated by all. Special recognition was paid to Rodney Dick and 2019 WHC I’m Mayhem. Also receiving recognition were two well known horse enthusiasts. Kent McGary and Julie George were inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Sportsmanship awards were given to: Juvenile 11 & under, Brooklyn Jones and 12-17 Harper Grider; Amateur, Deedy Whittamore; Professional Flat Shod, Jason Crawhorn; Professional Performance, R.M. Kelley. A first time award this year was the Horseman of the ear given in honor of longtime member and supporter of the SC WHA etty ailey. This award went to the very deserving Spencer Benedict. SHOW PRESS RELEASE MARCH 11, 2022 The SHOW Rules Committee was recently forwarded a question regarding the equipment allowed in the pleasure divisions. The re uest came about from a uestion at the SHOW udges training on March , . As a result of the uestion the following rulebook clarification was recommended by the SHOW Rules Committee to the SHOW Executive Committee. The addition was passed by the Executive Committee and will be ratified by the full board at the next called meeting Effective Immediately (March 11, )Pleasure Division Pleasure Horse Tails The use of faux tails weighted and non-weighted shall be acceptable. The use of a tail tie shall be acceptable with the following stipulations. 1. Tie must be applied after DQP inspection . The material used in the tie must not be visible 3. The tail must lay in a natural position not pulled forward between hind legs. The combination of tie and faux tail will not be allowed.

COWGIRL UP FOR MISTI BENEFIT - PRESS RELEASE In the truly epic fashion that horse people understand, an across-the-board effort of the horse community is coming together to support one of our families in need. Through the combined efforts of the SSHBEA, TWHBEA, WHOA, PWHAT, NWHA, NSSHA, WHTA, WHT Auxiliary and SSHBEA Auxiliary, the horse industry is gathering and supporting the Dickie Gardner Family with Cowgirl Up For Misti. Misti was diagnosed with COVID 19 on December 27, 2021, and was admitted to Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee, on December where she stayed for five weeks. She had blood clots in her lungs and suffered and continues to suffer severe complications from the CO ID virus entering her brain. Treatment will be a long process, and the timeline for recovery is unclear. She will continue to have many doctor visits for the foreseeable future to further her recovery. The family owned and operated Dickie Gardner Stables has been a leader in all aspects of the industry for many years. The family, along with customers, log hundreds of miles each year to compete and support all factions of both the Spotted Saddle Horse and Tennessee Walking Horse business. The kickoff event for the Cowgirl p For Misti enefit will be held on Friday, March , , at the TWHBEA Auditorium in Lewisburg, Tennessee at 6:00 p.m. Happy Hour with cash bar will be followed by a delicious meal served by The Rowdy Ranch Catering gang. OBITUARY- GUS “JACK” RICHARDS JR. Gus “Jack” Richards, Jr., age 91 of Shelbyville, Tennessee passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022. He was born on January 9, 1931 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Gus Sr. and Georgia Mae Richards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Rebecca Mills Richards and children Tami Richards, Jackie Richards, and Gus “Trey” Richards III. He is survived by his children Willie Richards, Georgia Richards and Troy Richards; several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; and a large, loving extended family.

Jack was a loving, hard-working family man. He was kind, patient, and a man of his word. Everyone who met him immediately fell in love with his friendly spirit. From a young age Jack was a farmer, and was a farmer his whole life. He was known for growing turnip greens, okra, and lettuce, among other vegetables. He also loved livestock, especially horses and later in life, goats. In the early 1960’s he began raising and training Tennessee Walking Horses. He shared that love of horses with his children, and they carry that legacy on today. Jack loved his life on the farm, and would spend his relaxation time riding around on his John Deere tractors. He also took an interest in working with special needs individuals and providing them with work and mentorship on the farm. Jack was known and loved by many, and he will be missed greatly. A visitation took place on Thursday, March 17, 2022 and a graveside service followed in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. The Scoop will miss visiting with Gus in the winners’ circle and at horse shows.; We send our warmest condolences to the Richards Family.

CONYERS, GA The Southern Belle can officially mark their first ever event as completed and successful. This inaugural horse show took place on March 10th-12th at the Georgia International Horse Park, the venue that was constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics that took place in Atlanta, Georgia. Jason Bachert served as judge for the 216 entries that competed for top awards. Thursday and Friday evening ended with new Maiden Maturity classes. These were created for horses that were showcased previous years in the International’s Maiden class. Thursday’s finale was the Riders’ Cup Country Pleasure Five & Under Maiden Maturity class. Winning that honor was BP’s Captain Jack Sparrow and Victoria Kalosis. Friday evening’s final class was the Riders’ Cup Trail Pleasure Five & Under Maiden Maturity class. Mischief Managed and Jim Potter received Judge Bachert’s first place tie for owner Mag Ranft. Saturday morning kicked off with blistering cold weather so show organizers announced that exhibitors did not have to wear show attire and could show in warm clothes. After a day of outstanding classes, three Best in Show divisions ended the three-day event. Ferdinand and Alainna Sharp took home the blue in the Best in Show Youth class. Winning the Best in Show Open Two-Gait class was BP’s Captain Jack Sparrow with Victoria Kalosis in the irons for owners Beth and Sarah Beth Thomas. Claiming the show’s final award in the Best in Show Open Three-Gait class was the duo of Classically Dangerous and Alex Sinden for owner Carolina Caraway. The Scoop was delighted to capture some wonderful memories and we congratulate each winner.

e Wins the Roses
J osh Watts and F orm A Line wore the roses at this year’s H eart O’ Dixie Showcase af ter making the blue ribbon ride in the Walking H orse Championship f or owners Chris and Ann Mills.
PHILADELPHIA, MS
The Heart O’ Dixie Spring Showcase took place on March 11th & 12th at the Neshoba County Coliseum. Tennessee Walking Horses and Racking Horses filled the arena for the two-day show while the Honorable Dan Waddell marked the cards. The classes were large, competitive and showcased some very talented horses. Four classes had five or more entries. Those classes and winners included Racking Specialty Action Amateur (1st- Almighty Jose & Henry Jenkins), Riders’ Cup Open Specialty (1st- Stamper & Jamie Lawrence), Riders’ Cup Show Pleasure (1st- Hard Eight & Lake Weaver), AOT Specialty (1st- I’m Into Cash & Newton Parks). The final two classes of the show were the Racking Specialty Action Stake and the Walking Horse Championship. Jamie Lawrence and I C Ritz were the only contenders in the Racking Stake. Roy Wester owns the Racking champion. Four entries answered the gate call in the Walking Horse Stake. Claiming the top prize was Form A Line with Josh Watts in the irons for owners Chris and Ann Mills. The Scoop congratulates each Heart O’ Dixie champion.
