Car shows return NORTH DURHAM: ‘Tis the season to be a classic car enthusiast, with the return of two popular weekly cruise-ins to the area. The Cruisin’ Classics Car Club is back up and running, celebrating their 25th anniversary this year on Tuesday nights at Port Perry’s Emmanuel Community Church (1680 Reach St.), starting at 5 p.m. through to the season ending Appreciation Night Food Drive in support of Operation Scugog on August 25. The Bonner Boys Uxbridge Cruise In returns to Elgin Park on Thursday, May 21, running from 4:30 p.m. to dusk every week, featuring food vendors, music, prizes and a 50/50 draw.

Remember the Blackstock & District Lions Club’s annual Car Show on Saturday, May 31, starting at 9 a.m. You’ll nd us at the Blackstock Fairgrounds and there will be signs along the major routes directing you. If you are bringing a classic vehicle, the admission fee is $5 per vehicle. Spectators are free. Our Lions will have the food booth set up, so you are in good hands. The 9th annual Walk for ALS is being held once again at the fairgrounds in Port Perry on Saturday, June 20. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. onward, with the 5k
walk itself beginning at 10 a.m. Following the Walk, our Blackstock Lions will have the barbecue on and will provide refreshments as well. Watch this column for more details to come. Also on Saturday, June 20, is Port Perry Lions 16th Annual Soapbox Derby. You’ll nd them set up on McDonald St. from the high school running west toward the bottom of the hill.
