Ramadan etiquette for nonMuslims Since Ramadan is a time of piety and high religious consciousness, it would be considerate for nonMuslims to adapt their lifestyle during the month as well. Here are a few tips to follow during Ramadan: •Eating and drinking in public is banned in some countries like the UAE during Ramadan, and strict penalties are levied on those who break the rule. Most eateries are closed during the day for the month, but some restaurants do offer delivery services.

•Avoid eating or drinking in front of colleagues who are fasting in office. •Do not get into arguments with those who are fasting; be patient and show consideration for the long hours of fasting. •Dress and behave modestly, avoiding animated behaviour that could cause offence. •Try to understand Ramadan better by involving yourself in the spirit of the month. Saying 'Ramadan Kareem' to Muslims and attending a fast-breaking feast, or iftar, would be appreciated by most Muslims.

•Do not play live music as it is banned through the month. •Shopping malls and supermarkets are expected to be open late at night. •Since cultural consciousness is also high during the month, Ramadan can be a good time to connect with the local and Muslim cultural scene by attending the various musical and social events, as well as trying local and regional cuisine that is popular during the month of fasting.

•Arabic speaking non-Muslims wishing to learn more about the region and its people will notice that Arabic television channels change their programming to a new schedule dedicated for Ramadan, when some of the most popular celebrities in the Arab world feature in some of the most-watched soap operas, historic series, as well as religious, cultural and musical shows.

Who is Joana ? in her own words :

-Dreams Colors and Glitter“Since I was a little girl I have always been in love with makeup, I used to watch my mom for hours apply lovely and colorful eye shadows on her eyelids and I remember thinking that I wanted to do that in the future and be pretty just like her , She was my muse!!! My fascination with makeup grew up when I reached puberty and I know my mom and aunts probably won't remember this but I used to steal their lipsticks and play with them a lot. Lol I have ruin tons of makeup palettes, shadows, glosses, looks and so on, but I also have found lots of new and wonderful techniques that have helped me achieve amazing results. I guess the best secret to learn something is to practice a lot and continue to inform yourself of new ways to do things. So now that I have some years of experience playing with colors and brushes I think is time for me to move on and help a lot of people find love for makeup, because makeup can transport you to wonderful places. You can become whatever you want to be, Geisha, Pop artist, Style icon, Movie star, Fafi girl. There are no limits. Working successfully with colors requires a little bit of passion and of course knowledge, having the knowledge about how color works and how to complement your complexion is what you are about to learn.

Beauty Tips

“In the magical world of makeup not only is important to have the right tools and cosmetics available, you also need to understand how the light helps to change the colors and influenced your thoughts, emotions and actions. “

Colors affect us in numerous ways, both mentally and physically .A strong red color has been shown to raise the blood pressure, while a blue color has a calming effect .Being able to use colors consciously and harmoniously can help you create spectacular results. 14 Issue 4

Elements.

Chroma/intensity—The brightness

Before learning about color theory, there are several elements to understand before getting into the aspect of makeup : pigmentation, the three dimensions of a color, color harmonies and color reflectiveness .Understanding all these elements is essential because they will determine and play a very important role in makeup color trends.

Pigment. Pigments are colorful substances that absorb, reflect and transmit certain wavelengths of light and this makes them appear "colorful "They can be naturals or synthetic and both types of pigments are used in cosmetics .All forms of makeup, be they water-based, oil in water, waxbased, cream, stick, cake or mineral contain pigments. Some types of pigment materials are permanent where the colors last with the same intensity for a lifetime .Other types will fade over time .A pigment material is actually insoluble and sits within a liquid instead of absorbing into it .This helps it produce an extra richness of color.

The

three

dimensions.

The second element of color theory to understand involves the three dimensions of a color that will help us to describe more accurately the colors.

Hue -.The name of the color, such as red, orange, yellow or green

15 Issue 4

or dullness of a color, or the measure of a color’s strength or purity; its saturation.

Value -.How light or how dark a color is, corresponding with its position on a scale that runs from black to white with all shades of gray in between. All colors have a gray value, as if seeing the same makeup or picture on a black and white television .The value of a color gives depth and dimension to what you see .It provides contrast, light against dark .In makeup, colors must be selected carefully so they don’t all have the same gray value, as that would result in your face being uninteresting, washed out and lacking in definition and nonverbal communication.

Color harmonies or chords. The word harmony refers to a collection of parts that are aesthetically pleasing to the senses of sight, sound, touch, taste and smell .In the world of color, color harmonies are a collection of colors that are pleasing to the eye and can inspire many emotions, like placid or exciting, cool and refreshing, warm and exhilarating, tantalizing and sensual. Color can be your most powerful design element if you learn to use it effectively . There are five basic color harmonies used :analogous, complementary, monochromatic, achromatic and triadic.

Analogous.

Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel .They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs . Choose one color to dominate, a second to support .The third color is used (along with black, white or gray) as an accent.

Complementary. Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example :red and green .) Complementary colors are tricky to use in large doses, but work well when you want something to stand out .

Monochromatic. The monochromatic color scheme uses variations in lightness and saturation of a single color .This scheme looks clean and elegant.

Triad .A triadic color scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel . Triadic color harmonies tend to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated versions of your hues .To use a triadic harmony successfully, the colors should be carefully balanced let one color dominate and use the two others for accent.

Color reflectiveness. The final element of color theory is color reflectiveness .There are six common types of reflectiveness to be aware of :

Matte—no shine, can be opaque or translucent Shiny—a gloss look Metallic—highly reflective, bright, not see-through Opaque—not see-through Translucent—lightly fogged, barely seethrough Transparent—see-through, such as glass

The color wheel.

The color wheel or color circle is the basic tool for combining colors .The first circular color diagram was designed by Sir Isaac Newton in 1666.

The color wheel is designed so that virtually any colors you pick from it will look good together .Over the years, many variations of the basic design have been made, but the most common version is a wheel of 12 colors based on the RYB (or artistic)color model.

Achromatic .Gray, white and black are Achromatic colors

16 Issue 4

Warm and cool colors

• • • •

The color circle can be divided into warm and cool colors . Warm colors are vivid and energetic, and tend to advance in space. Cool colors give an impression of calm, and create a soothing impression. White, black and gray are considered to be neutral.

Tints, shades and tones. If a color is made lighter by adding white, the result is called a tint. If black is added, the darker version is called a shade. And if gray is added, the result is a different tone.

Tints -adding white to a pure hue: Shades -adding black to a pure hue: Tones -adding gray to a pure hue: Color can inspire emotions and memories, send signals and convey information—it can be quite a powerful force. Learning about the elements of color theory, as well as the theory itself, helps you harness this power and direct it in the best way possible.

What eyes can transmit.

Not only eyes are the mirror of the soul, they are the most important thing in your face, Eyes are the feature in your face where people is going to look at when they talk to you and you can say a lot from the makeup you choose to apply to your eyes. Every woman should know how to apply eye makeup to correct and emphasize her natural beauty and feel more attractive, so that is what we are going to learn in this chapter.

Brows. Brows are the part in the face that a lot of people tend to ignore, and that is something that you should really pay attention because the brows accentuate the eye expression, they can make you look more polished and also they can frame your beautiful eyes. They are lots of brow shapes you can choose between, but the most important thing is to never fall completely in the style tendencies because sometimes a poorly shaped brow can darken and obscure the eyes or create a perpetual unwanted expression, So it is vital to choose a shape that will compliment and accentuate YOUR eyes. Before randomly plucking brows or slathering on hot wax, what we need to do is examine your natural brow shape and take note of which aspects you don't like. Is the hair too long and bushy? Are the brows too thick, or too close together? Are the ends ragged and blunt? Is the hair sparse and patchy? Defining the problem is the first step toward correcting it with a new shape.

Here are some kind of brows you probably are familiar with:

18 Issue 4

Creating a new shape . There are several ways to create new eyebrow shapes along with different products designed to help women groom their own eyebrows .If you have never shaped your brows before, however, it may be best to visit a beauty salon or a professional for consultation and recommendations, also a licensed cosmetologists will be able to perform the treatments as well if desired . Instruments . There are many different tools that can help you create perfect eyebrow shapes .Different women prefer different methods based on their personal beauty habits, experience with shaping brows, time, and patience .  Eyebrow wax: Both hot and cold waxes operate by adhering to the hair so it can all be removed simultaneously .This method is one of the fastest for creating new eyebrow shapes, but it can be difficult to control, particularly for a novice.  Tweezers :Are the most basic piece of eyebrow shaping equipment, tweezers are perfect for removing stray hairs that aren’t effectively trapped by wax or other treatments, as well as touching up the look to keep it smooth and elegant .Tweezing an entire new shape can be tedious, however, is the best way to get rid of all the unwanted hair.  Eyebrow stencils: These pre-waxed strips are already cut into perfect shapes, and users simply apply them, let them set, and remove them quickly .There are a large variety of stencils available, but be sure to choose ones that compliment your face shape, features, and eyes .  I recommend you to use the tweezers because is the best way to have precision at removing the unwanted hair, but before that I need you to follow this tip to give a perfect shape to your brow . Preparing the brow .The first thing to do is to brush your brows to give them shape and shine, then you should get a cotton ball with a little bit of antiseptic and apply it on the brow to desinfect the area. Before plucking imagine this points on the picture above:

Your eye brown should not excced the area between point a and b.

19 Issue 4

The inner edge of the brow should vertically align with the side of the nostril . The arch of the brow should be naturally over the outer third of the eye .You need to look straight ahead to align the arch with the iris(colored portion of the eye).

The outer edge of the brow should align with the corner of the eye and should not extend to the temple .You can create an imaginary line between the side of your nose to the outer corner passing over the end of your eye to see what you should remove. And finally the inner and outer edges should be horizontally even .Look at the a and b points to have the idea. Symmetry is critical between both brows to prevent a disproportionate appearance .Another tip is to start remove hair in a small lines to avoid removing too much hair and double check frequently during the procedure because you don't want to create false expressions.

Correcting Eyebrows. Eyebrows can be easily damaged, and eventually, shaping may no longer be necessary as continually plucked and stressed follicles cease growing hair (even after a first treatment, it may take up to two months for the hair to regrow .)On the other hand, this can be a problem if you decide to change your brow shape or accidentally make errors when initially shaping the brow .One of the ways you can temporary correct an improper shape that has been over-shaped and if you don't want to wait until the hair grows back, is to only imitate the hair by drawing it in :eyebrow pencils, gel, powder, or shadow can be used, but it should be as close to the natural color of the brow as possible.

Avoid shimmery products that would draw attention to the correction .You can also apply hair grow products and even get some fake eyebrows(yes like wigs and hair extensions)particularly if the damage is severe. Proper eyebrow shapes are more than a simple facial feature :they highlight the most dramatic and expressive part of the face :The eyes, and they can instantly establish an individual’s personality .By choosing the proper shape, creating it carefully, and knowing how to correct potential errors, women can easily have the brow shape they’ve always admired. Eyes. There is a great amount of potential for enhancing what is unique about your eyes .But the first thing is to identify the specific shape of your eyes to know what kind of techniques you need to apply to bring out their beauty. The skillful application of eye makeup is an art .Eye makeup can help you express your feelings, your mood and your sense of style.

20 Issue 4

Eyes shapes. Wide apart eyes. You can visually reduce the range between your eyes if you use more intense eye shadow colors near the inner corner of the eyes. That will make eyes look closer together.

Close set eyes. Close set eyes are those narrower than one eye width. To enhance this eye shape you should apply eyeshadows of darker colors starting from the middle of your eyelid to the outer corner and using more mascara on the outer corners. Almond eyes. This are the most common eye shape and this eyes calls for creativity, you can make them look deeper and more intense. They have the perfect proportions, any eye technique will work here. Small eyes. They are proportionally smaller in comparison to the rest of the facial features. To enhance this shape of eyes line upper and lower but never inside. Use pale, shimmery eye shadows and curl, curl, curl your lashes, that will help you a lot. Prominent eyes. This shape of eyes tend to dominate the facial features. The eyelids are too pronounced. Try not to apply shimmery shadows because they will accentuate shape of the eyes. Hooded eyes. The natural crease in this eyes shape is not seen, so that is why you should play more attention to your eyebrows highlighting the brow bone and also lining the bed of the lashes to create an alluring shape. Deep set eyes. If you have this shape, try to choose light eye shadows, this would help to make your eyes appear visually bigger. Also line upper and lower lids (never just upper) and if you use darker colors blend the darker shade up and out.

Oriental eyes. The depth of this eyes can be increased by applying light colors on your lids, also the dimension can be increased by applying eyeliner as close as possible to the lash line. Black mascara and black eyeliner are the best for enhancing your eyes.

21 Issue 4

Bigger eyes. Dark shadows can make your eyes visually appear smaller, while light shades, on the opposite, can make them look bigger because light colors can attract more light into your eyes and they will seem wider. So be careful when you create smokey eyes with darker colors, because you can end with the contrary effect of what you really want. In fact, if you want to have very big eyes, never line the inner edge of the lower lashes with dark colors, because it would make them smaller, instead a very known trick is to apply white pencil liner to the waterline to make them pop. Also for a big dramatic eye makeup, be sure to curl your lashes and use tons of mascara or falsies to open them up.

Arabian make-up

best know for its dramatic emphasis on eyes and lips. This particular makeup style consists of dark and dramatic eyes, bronzer and bold lip colors. While many individuals believe that the goal of wearing makeup is to subtly emphasize your features, Arabian makeup takes a much bolder approach.

How to get the Arabian style Make Up The Arab women have extraordinarily beautiful eyes. They love to apply a lot of kohl primarily for protecting their priced assets apart from helping them look awesome too, in the deal. You hardly come across a girl who doesn’t have sharp features which is basically why they are so popularly known in the fashion and the beauty world as well. For the Arabian eyes, all you need to do is use a lot of black eye shadow and kohl to help accentuate your assets in such a manner than they actually stand out on your face. Remember to keep your cheeks and lips nude so as to help brighten them further more. For the Arabian look all you require is a black or a dark brown eye shadow, a kohl pencil and some mascara. To begin with, wash your face with cold water and a mild soap or cleanser. Then, dab dry to prepare your skin for the perfect exercise of eye make up that you wish to do on it. Now take a foundation that suits your skin tone and begin blending in to your derma. Once you have done that be sure off dabbing off the excess cream so that your face doesn’t end up looking flaky and over made up. Slowly, begin giving your lids the black shadow strokes to make them look nice and dark. Then apply the kohl on the inside of the lower lid and finish with the mascara on both the upper as well as the lower lashes for a thicker look.

Double rainbow eye tutorial

35 Issue 4

We all watched and laughed at a man's reaction to seeing a double rainbow. Rainbows can be quite a breath-taking sight, and the only thing more gleeful than observing a prismatic half-circle in the sky is wearing one on your lids! Here's how you can achieve the rainbow effect any time, any day! You will need eyeshadows in the colors of the rainbow - yellow, red, pink, blue, green, turquoise and purple will all work. You don't need all 7 colors - 3 or 4 should be enough. For this look, we will be using Magic Dusts in Circus Girl, Lime Criminal, Shoe Addict and Primadonna. Prep your lids with eyeshadow primer for maximum brightness and long-lasting results. Apply Circus Girl with a dense, short-bristled brush on the center of the eyeball. Pat Shoe Addict on outer corners (don't worry about it being perfect) and finally, Lime Criminal into the inner corner and into the crease. Blend the colors together with a fluffy brush in a back-and-forth motion until seamless; avoid overblending, you want the colors to still pop! Apply Primadonna under the eye as close to the lashes as possible.

36 Issue 4

Smudge indigo-blue or purple pencil on the waterline, under lower lashes and close to the top lashes if you want. Don't have a purple pencil? No problem! Use any black eyeliner and lightly pat blue or purple eyeshadow on top of the line with a tiny brush the waxes in the pencil will hold on to the color. Finish off with 2-3 coats of black mascara - our favorite is Maybelline Falsies Volume Express. Rainbows come out after the rain, so dewy complexion is a-must! Apply liquid foundation onto moisturized skin and skip setting powder - you want that healthy sheen to show through! If you use a highlighter, dab in a thin layer onto cheeks on the ridge just under the eye, under the brow and on cupid's bow. Keep your blush within the neutral family. Since the eye is so dramatic, keep the lips neutral - the best way to showcase bright eyeshadow! Any nude lipstick will do, or you can even make your own color by dabbing some foundation onto the lips and topping it off with lip balm or clear gloss. Voila!
