T.L.C. In-Home Supportive Services “Improving the quality of life one day at a time” By Christina Reed, The Hired Pen Eastern Sierra, CA—The region's growing need for in-home assistance and companionship is being met by a newly opened, women-owned business in Bishop, and T.L.C. In-Home Supportive Services is now serving the communities in the Owens Valley from its storefront. Business partners Jessica Ainscough and Tawni LaFrombois currently have a team of seven trained and flexible women who can provide clients and family with a variety of services, in-home, and the goals of the team members are to help people of all ages enjoy living at home, and they “strive to have continuity in care,” Ainscough says. “Improving the quality of life one day at a time.” T.L.C. In-Home Supportive Services' team members provide respite for family care-givers, temporary care assistance for vacationers, grocery shopping, errands, doctor appointments, activities, and “we are capable of putting together 24-hour care in a one or two day time frame,” Ainscough notes. Cinthia Garcia, Belen Flores, Ashley McLaughlin, Amber Thomas, Stephanie Kidd, Gloria Bever, Morgan Wilder, and office manager, Amber Harper, join Ainscough and LaFrombois at T.L.C. In-Home Supportive Services, which is a “self-made” business in the supportive services industry. The 14 team members are private contractors, and they have business licenses, are live-scanned for the California Department of Social Services, have CPR and first aid training, and have general and liability insurance. Some of the staff are CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants), and the team also works with the local doctors, nurses, and hospitals to provide clients with on-going care needs. “I started this business for the right reasons” “Six years ago I had a thought, a vision. I wanted something special for our geriatric community, something where we could provide a true quality of life, build connections, and true longlasting relationships with what we call 'Our people,'” Ainscough writes. “I started off with one client, what a blessing she was in so many ways. I was able to hire two women also truly unbelievable gals. Through this client, we received our second, through word-of-mouth, where our reputation grew to be kind, loving providers.” Ainscough adds, smiling from the newly-forming office, “I started this business for the right reasons.” “The rewards are different for each client and care giver,” LaFrombois says about her involvement in the business partnership, and she and Ainscough have had an enormous sense of satisfaction watching the fledging business take off, from the ground,

“Six years ago I had a thought, a vision... I wanted something special for our geriatric community...” up. LaFrombois is the bookkeeper, and she has also been a care giver with Ainscough. The grand opening behind them (June 25), both Ainscough and LaFrombois are pleased with the increasing staff and new clients. Loyalty to the community is a very important aspect of business, and Ainscough says, “I appreciate the loyalty from the community.” Friends, family, former clients, and new faces were present with the business' formal introduction, and Joel Sharp, Joshua Peters, Shawn Petty, Brian Chamberlain, and Manuel Ruiz were T.L.C.'s supportive services on that big day. Everyone seems to have embraced the business' motto, “You have two hands. One to help yourself, the second to help others.”

Devon Mathis, Inyo County’s representative in the State Assembly, toured Northern Inyo Healthcare District on Friday. In meeting with the district’s leadership, Mathis got a first-hand look at the advances the District has made in improving access to modern technology and provider services during the last year. NIHD Chief Executive Officer Kevin S. Flanigan, MD MBA, led the 45-minute tour, showing Mathis the 25-bed critical access hospital, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Services and the Rural Health Clinic. Mathis was shown the new da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system and given details on the Infusion Center, Breast Health Center, CAREShuttle transportation program and the future Pharmacy. Also joining Assemblyman Mathis for the tour were Pete Watercott and John Ungersma, president and vice president, respectively, of the NIHD Board of Directors, as well as NIHD’s Chief Operating Officer Kelli Huntsinger. Mathis and the NIHD leaders discussed the state of healthcare in rural California and the nation over lunch at Perry’s Italian Café. Dr. Flanigan stressed the importance of developing partnerships between rural healthcare providers and state officials while Huntsinger discussed challenges smaller facilities face in meeting some state mandates. Watercott and Ungersma urged Mathis to champion legislation that would reduce the cost of expanding healthcare and help make employment in rural areas more attractive to physicians.

Sportsman’s Corner by Duane Rossi
FAMILY AFFAIR Deer hunting was a family affair. Everyone in the family would go; mom, dad, cousins, aunts, uncles- everybody went. This is one of my fondest memories from deer camp, back when I was about 14. I slipped out of camp a little before day light and ran into a buck right out of camp. My dad and uncle helped me drag it back into camp before breakfast. The deer were starting to move and nobody was in a hurry. Momma was scrambling eggs, biscuits were baking in the dutch oven, and the coffee was boiling over the fire. It started to snow a little, and everyone was enjoying the fire. Two cowboys rode in, looked at the buck and said, "Yeah, we know him. He was kind of a cripple. We had to throw rocks at him to get him out of camp." About that time, we heard three shots. That had to be my brother. The cowboys said, "Yeah, he's probably lost, you better go find him." We got teased over everything you can possibly be teased over. I guess that's called harassment these days, but we knew if they didn't like us they wouldn't even bother to talk to us. Dad asked the cowboys, "Have you seen Lauren Catchet?" "Yeah, we had dinner with him yesterday, he had a sage hen cooked up in a dutch oven, sure was good. He was leaving this morning, heading out over high meadows, loggings flats, and was taking the herd down Big Pine Canyon." Other hunters would wander into camp from town, Momma would feed them. They were drinking coffee and other refreshments found in deer camp. About that time, my twelve year old brother came in with blood up to his elbows. He had just shot his first buck. The cowboys jumped on their horses and went out to help him bring his deer in. They hung the bucks up on the big rocks at Lone Tree Springs and skinned them out. Dad took a small saw to cut their ribs out, rubbed them with onions, salt, and pepper and laid them beside the fire to cook. It was starting to snow a little harder, and everybody huddled closer to the fire. We all had venison ribs to chew on. Next morning, mom said, "Okay, you boys got your bucks. Get back home and get to school." When we got to town, the word was already out. The whole town was proud of us. Harry Mendenhall wanted a couple chops, Annie Jefferson wanted bones, and Claude Salazar wanted the neck to make chili. I took a front quarter to Rob and Emma Harry. Emma jumped up and invited me to the help myself to the cooked pinenuts she had been shelling, and headed to the kitchen with the meat. At school on Monday morning, the faculty gathered around. Two of my teachers were hunters and wanted to go out hunting with me next weekend. They hinted that we might get to sneak away from school a little early on Friday (you bet). These are the fond memories of an old man looking at the mountains, wondering if he'll ever draw another deer tag. Or worse yet, if there will be very many deer left in the next few years. Sportsmen and women, we are losing our wildlife. Sponsored by Reagan’s Sporting Goods www.reaganssportinggoods.com
The Use of Mind
by the Rev. Walt Sharer Minister / Practioner-Bishop Church of Religious Science
Consistency of Thought In many articles and lessons the idea of prosperity and its benefits have been discussed. We have established how the development of an idea, the thoughts which arise and the words and actions that follow form the basis of the spiritual prototype on which the manifestation appears, but it cannot be emphasized to much the importance of consistency of thought. I have heard or read many spiritual mind treatments on the subject of prosperity. One of the bases for treatment is to accept your request as an already accomplished fact, yet, so many of these writers run out to buy lottery tickets to achieve their quest. First of all, I am not against the lottery, however; if you are using treatment as a vehicle to establish a consciousness of prosperity, you have no need for a lottery ticket. Judge Thomas Troward warned us about developing opposing spiritual prototypes. They cancel each other out. Either you will rely on God, or on the lottery to bring you wealth. Some have said that somebody has to win, and that is true, and then they add that it could be them. Without realizing it they have gone from a sure thing to a game of chance. When we treat we know the answer is already present. We accept our good now, not in the past or the future. The past is over and the future is yet to be written. The eternal now is ever-present. As a matter of fact, living in the now is living in eternity. If our prayer or petition is for future growth, it cannot appear in the now, but in the future. A horse may move to get the carrot, but he would stop if he got the carrot. We are not horses. Through the use of mind we can enjoy the carrot; its taste and texture, even before we have it. The desire for wealth and the desire for prosperity is not always the same. A person of little means can have a sense of fulfillment with a sunrise or sunset. Being prosperous is the wholeness of the moment. It could be, but is not limited to having money or goods. When questioned about what individuals would do with the winnings of the lottery, most refereed to who they would give or donate some of the winnings to? Buying friends is not friendship. The Real need in your life is to accept yourself, even with all the warts, as the inheritor of the kingdom of God. The Bible tells us we were made in the image and after the likeness of God. When God spoke things happened. When we speak we set the same mechanisms in place. Creativity fills the picture we have presented to it. God doesn’t decide who gets the goods and who doesn’t; your own input to the Mind of God does. The fluidity of thought allows for diversity, but keep your resolve constant, and don’t create opposite ideas in mind. God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
