AAA-Automobile Club of Southern California New faces to get you places
By Christina Reed The Hired Pen Eastern Sierra, CA—The only local branch of the AAA, Automobile Club of Southern California, is a neat and tidy brick building on West Pine Street, in Bishop, CA. This office covers one of the state's largest and challenging areas in the Eastern Sierra side of California, from Lancaster, CA to the Nevada state line, and offers all of the traditionally known AAA products and services, as well as serving the northern Eastern Sierra's, “most rural” clients in the state, says Sherry Wilkinson, Bishop's branch supervisor, and 26-year employee of the AAA's remote office. People travel to and from, and through the Eastern Sierra, and AAA has been a bridge to some benefits of the membership of this international business. AAA assists travelers, international visitors, and residents with current and flexible services, products,
Bolt of a colt for the Cup
The unbeaten Bolt d'Oro will look to strike in this year's Breeders Cup at Del Mar on November 4. Scintillating thus far in his three wins, this two-year old hopes to use the Breeders' Cup Juvenile as his next stepping stone towards an appearance in the 2018 Kentucky Derby. After winning the Frontrunner Stakes at Santa Anita on September 30 with a lightninglike move in the stretch, Bolt has owner/trainer Mick Ruis excited about this colt and the Cup. "I haven't seen too many like him over the past 20 years," says Ruis, a San Diego native. "He's got a high cruising speed like his father and we think he has the versatility to win from anywhere. It's a very exciting time for us, but we are taking things one day at a time.We love Del Mar and so does he as he has won twice there." The mile and a sixteenth Juvenile will be run on the main track at the Seaside Oval and has a purse of $2million. (photo by Benoit, reporting by Danny Brewer)

The benefits of having in-hand maps, written / printed information while traveling (in areas with no cell phone reception, GPS, or limited internet) in many of the world's places can't be understated. Bishop's AAA office is a place to explore travel, historic sites, and fun spots to take kids and pets. “There is a new edition of the road atlas,” Wilkinson notes as she describes the classic road guide. “We have a beautiful book on the Civil War, by the Smithsonian.” There are children's travel books, popular movie characters, and a book on traveling the US with your pets. International travel remains a big dream, and AAA provides a network of travel agents to assist with many of the aspects of AAA's local office, in Bishop, CA, offers a variety of traditional products going to and from abroad. The Use of Mind
by the Rev. Walt Sharer Minister / Practioner-Bishop Church of Religious Science
The Rainbow Bridge I begin this article with a disclosure, I am a died in the wool pet lover, and as long as I remember I have had pets in my life and home. It has been a major heartbreak when one of my pets died. It is never easy when you lose a family member, however; when I encountered the poem entitled “The Rainbow Bridge,” I was comforted, if not consoled. For those not familiar with the poem; it refers to a bridge, overshadowed with a rainbow. This bridge leads to a beautiful and scenic landscape, which the pets cross over at death. They are restored to health and are able to play and enjoy while they await our arrival, and when we cross over the bridge, we are reunited for the rest of eternity. For those Bible scholars among us, I know there is no Rainbow Bridge or even the mention of pets, unless it was the donkey that carried Mary to Nazareth. In a way, the story is kind of sappy, but I for one love it. Some might even equate it with a fairy story, but is no more a fairy story than some faiths teach. We are told all kinds of ways God decides who goes to Heaven and who goes to the other place. What is missing is what happens once we get there, if indeed we get there. At least I know that my pets and I will have fun together, all the days long. We could discuss and debate what happens after our departure from this plane until we are blue in the face, and never touch on what is vital right now is living, and living well. We had a resident in my little town that loved dogs, but she developed an allergy and couldn’t have one in her home. Her husband, knowing her love for dogs, brought her a ceramic, life size dog, which she proudly dis played in her front yard. It gave her so much joy to have a beloved pet again that nobody even came close to remind her that her pet was made of clay. It says in the Book of Genesis we are to take dominion of the earth and all the creatures within it. It does not say we can’t enjoy or cherish them. I know there are many people without pets, and I don’t know how they do it, but I wouldn’t want be without my buddies. There is nothing in the good book that says we aren’t supposed to enjoy ourselves or look to fantasy to enrich our memories. Jesus said, “It is done unto you as you believe.” I would rather believe in the rainbow bridge than I would that God would condemn his creation. This life is for living, not for dying. Let us enjoy with every opportunity. If a dog or kitten warms your heart; get to a shelter and adopt a friend for life. All an animal like a dog, cat, and hamster wants is to be loved, and we are no different. I’ve has so many pets throughout my life I’m going to have quite a crowd on the other side of the bridge. God is Love and Loving You Right Now!

Sportsman’s Corner by Duane Rossi
NATIVE RAINBOW TROUT When I was running the pack station at Tunnel Meadow Air Camp a man flew in from New York he worked for the FBI and He was a avid fisherman. He booked float plane trips into lakes in Canada. He came to Tunnel Meadows to catch large golden trout. The largest golden in the area are in Fungston Lake on the Barrell Plateau. Its a long ride from the pack station to Funston Lake; but, we got an early start and arrived at the lake before noon. The man used a Mepps spinner and claimed it was the most productive spinner he had ever used. He started catching golden trout immediately running about 14 to 16 inches long. When I told him it was time to start back to camp we loaded up and headed back. There is no trail from Rocky Basin Lake to Fungston Lake; but, you ride right by Rocky Basin to Funston Lake. When we got back down to Rocky Basin he asked me if he could make one cast into the lake. I said, Okay; but, one cast and one cast only because it was getting late. It didn't take him long to put his rod together and cast his Mepps spinner out into the lake. He immediately hooked a nice trout. When he got the fish on the bank the man went nuts. He claimed it was the most beautiful trout he had seen in his life. He photographed it, he caressed it and he might have even kissed it before he returned it to the lake. The trout was about 14 inches long and it was what the old timers called a native rainbow. Spawned and raised in ice cold mountain water. This type of fish has a steel blue back, a pure white belly, light yellow fins and blood red stripe on his sides from his gill to his tail. When Reed Watson had his small hatchery on Big Pine Creek he raised some of these fish. He called them Eagle Lake Strain rainbows. I occasionally catch a small one while fly fishing in Big Pine creek, I do believe that they once had escaped from Reed's pond because I had never seen one there before. The next time I catch on I'll take a picture of it and post it in one of my articles. Sponsored by Reagan’s Sporting Goods www.reaganssportinggoods.com
