Signs of Spring 2020 Communities and businesses “doing the best we can� velopes to participating restaurants, and with the purchase of food or drinks at your restaurant, locals can ask for a “Golden Ticket.� The restaurant will give the customer ONE “Golden Ticket,� and winners can contact the City of Bishop to get their prizes. Restaurants only need to be willing to pass out the tickets when locals purchase food and ask for a ticket. The Bishop Twin Theatre, a landmark in downtown Bishop, is inspiring the residents to thank our essential workers, and they are offering grab and go fresh popcorn, Thursday-Sunday, from 3-6 p.m.The theatre originally opened in 1929, and it was a “twin the-

atre� by the 1970s. Recently, the Bishop Twin Theatre underwent major renovations, making it a real treat to enjoy the big screens. Currently closed, due to the coronavirus, it will reopen, when we can all get together again.

By Christina Reed The Hired Pen Eastern Sierra, CA---Signs of spring are emerging, and some much-needed rain and snow is helping to ease the lower precipitation measurements from this past winter. People are staying at home, and families are riding their bikes, at safe distances, in their neighborhoods for exercise. There are also businesses in every community doing their part to keep spirits up, with Bear Hunts going on in many towns up and down the Owens Valley. Residents are propping up cute, cuddly bears in their windows, and neighbors are waving to locals and our medical responders.

In downtown Bishop, the Bishop Twin Theatre changes its marquee each week, with words of inspiration, and the City of Bishop is supporting local restaurants through the Community Challenge. Brittany Rossi, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Bishop, through the Community Services Department, says this second challenge has a “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory� theme, with “Golden Tickets.� Rossi says the idea is to get locals to get drive thru / take out / delivery from participating restaurants, and customers have a chance to win a prize when they purchase food or drinks. The City of Bishop is promoting this through Facebook, website, and local media. The City of Bishop will give tickets sealed in en-

The second Community Challenge in downtown Bishop is going to feature a “Golden Ticket� at participating restaurants, when customers buy food and drinks. Prizes are redeemable through the City of Bishop.The first Community Challenge in Bishop featured inspiring and thoughtful rock painting by kids / families to eventually build a Kindness Rock Pathway in the Bishop City Park, when we can get together again.
