April 23 – 29, 2020

Local event planned for Child Abuse Prevention Month On Friday, April 24, 2020, the Inyo County Health & Human Services will be recognizing Children’s Memorial Day. Annually, Inyo County sponsors a Children’s Memorial Flag Raising Day. However, in light of the current pandemic, we are encouraging residents throughout the county to stop at 10 am to take a moment of silence for those children we have lost to violence and abuse. The Children’s Memorial Day was established by the California Assembly in April 1997, which formally declared the fourth Friday in April as a statewide annual observance day: on the fourth Friday in April every year the Children’s Memorial Flag is to be flown statewide in memory of the thousands of California young lives lost to violence in the previous year. Inyo County is committed to promoting and developing the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and to maximizing the potential of every child in Inyo County by supporting healthy child development, and by surrounding children with positive relationships and experiences they are more likely to grow into confident, caring and productive adults. The people of Inyo County believe in the celebration of life, diversity and hope for the future through our children and deplore and condemn acts of violence committed against the children of our community.

Wear Your Masks Out in Public Essential workers and health care providers are being asked to wear masks when out in public, or with the public, by the Mono County Health Department, and Inyo County's Public Health Department, as of April 16, 2020. Cloth face masks are for the protection of everyone, especially the 20 to 25 percent of senior citizens living in our three counties.

Take Out Dining and Dessert Options Continue in Towns While we can't socialize, right now, in restaurants like we have in the past, we can still get excited about having a dinner and desserts, which give us something to look forward to. Enjoy the many flavors and colors of Hing's Donuts in Bishop, CA (760-872-4369) and bring home a family dinner from Bishop's El Pollo Loco (760-875-1708), which will inspire the taste buds, and bring smiles to the family's faces.

The Use of Mind

by the Rev. Walt Sharer Minister / Practioner-Bishop Church of Religious Science

Creative Living Billions of years ago the earth was quite different than we behold it today. Life as we know it couldn’t live in a molten environment. It would be many, many years before even a semblance life emerged. And when it got started, it exploded in a proliferation of life. There seemed to be many resets and adjustments along the way, but here we are. Countless species flourished for a time and marched into extinction, only to be replaced by adaptive new forms of life. The Laws of nature seems to manage the life cycle of its creatures. Only mankind, of all the life forms on earth has the capacity to destroy his habitat or the whole of earth. Man can make the world uninhabitable all over again. From slings, rocks and arrows we have developed weapons beyond imagination. The industrial age has produced stifling pollution in some of the major cities of the world, Class warfare has led to genocide and elimination of whole segments of populations. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer almost seems like a natural thing, but it doesn’t have to be. Animals of all kinds are born into a world they must adapt to very fast in their early development. This they must do to survive. They do not create their environment; they live in it. If the environment changes, they move if they are able, or go the way of extinction, like so many that have gone before. Along came man; we will not debate his evolutionary rise to his current status. From the first hunter-gatherers to civilized (or maybe not) village people, their were continual improvements to their living conditions, tinkerers, inventors, scientist and the like were continually coming up with new and innovative ways of doing things. Why is that, you might ask? The answer is, unlike our animal and plant neighbors, we have a creative mind that not only creates what we consciously desire, but takes the direct impress of our thoughts and acts upon them. Our subconscious mind is the creative avenue of mind. There are no secret hates or hidden wants that can be kept from the subconscious mind; it is always churning out the directives we each give it. Many have feigned ignorance of their own creative power, but it is what it is. Each of us has created the world we live in, which includes that which you would prefer to be without. Our life is a mirror of our mental state. The beauty of being creative is that we can create remedies for those things unwanted. So how do you see well where evil appears to be? Jesus told us not to judge by appearance, but by righteous judgment. Genesis 1:31 says, “And God saw everything he had made and called it good…” “God if thou seest God, Dust if thou seest dust.” When we bring a light into a dark room, where does the darkness go? The darkness neither came nor went. It was merely a condition. Each of us carries our light with us. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” No darkness need linger. Take your light into the world and let the appearances fade out of sight. Bring your goodness, truth and beauty into everything you do. God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
