Inyo County Teachers Take Center Stage in Fundraiser

ZRcP [ )RcP £ ?NG John Camphouse (left) and Bill Schuck (right) initiated the “Join Our Campaign to Honor Our Teachers and School Staff” fundraiser. Donations can be made to the project until May 7, 2021. Photo by The Hired Pen Eastern Sierra, CA—Inyo County's teachers are the focus of a large fundraising effort, put forward by John Camphouse and Bill Schuck, and the hope is to raise enough funds to give $40 to each educator. The “Join Our Campaign to Honor Our Teachers and School Staff,” is ambitious, but the funds are coming in, says Camphouse, and it is the goal to have the funds by May 7, 2021, in enough time to distribute the gift cards and certificates to the teachers at the end of the school year. Camphouse and Schuck recognize how difficult the past year has been for educators, and they decided to create a fund for teachers about two months ago. “This has been an incredibly difficult year for parents and children, businesses, medical personnel, teachers and students. Everyone is exhausted. In reflecting on this, those of us at the several Methodist Churches in the Owens Valley have been led to take some specific action to honor and thank our teachers and staff at all of our public schools. While this effort is started by the Methodist Churches, we do hope that many individuals and organizations will join us,” states the press release. “All the funds raised will be distributed and we will make every effort to provide equal amounts to each teacher and staff person. We have chosen to give to those in education throughout Inyo County and to include Edna Beaman Elementary,” the press release goes on to say.
Gift card or certificate redeemable at local businesses will be given to teacher / staff person. “And the goal is to have gift cards, totaling at least $40, for each teacher / staff member. The organizers ask that all donations be made by check more easily to equalize the gifts for each recipient. Businesses will not be asked to donate cash or gift cards; the organizers want to help local businesses which have also struggled in the last year. The project seeks to thank more than 400 teachers and staff throughout the county,”Camphouse notes. Just a few weeks into the fundraising efforts, there has been a “very good response,” Schuck says. “This is a very
tight community,” and is good at “addressing needs.” Camphouse adds, “We've had a wonderful response from the schools. Both pleased and grateful.” Donations may be made by check sent to: Bishop First United Methodist Church, 205 N. Fowler St. Bishop, CA 93514. The canceled check will be your receipt. Phone number at the church: 760-872-7701. Donations should be made by May 7, 2021, to allow enough time to purchase gift cards and certificates. Other organizations interested can contact John Camphouse at email (church) office@bishopumc.org or johncamphouse@gmail.com. Or call 760-873-8354.

Mining Exploration threatens Long Valley Voice your concerns by May 6, 2021 to Stop the Proposed Project Proposed mining exploration threatens the future of the scenic, economically, and ecologically important Long Valley area in Mono County and the Sierra Club Range of Light Group is encouraging local Eastern Sierra residents and organizations, as well as those that recreate in the Eastern Sierra, to speak up. Concerned citizens have until May 6, 2021 to participate in the current 30-day public scoping period for the proposed Long Valley Exploration Drilling Project proposed by Kore USA Ltd. (Kore Mining). Kore Mining proposes to construct a total of fourteen drilling pads, measuring 30 feet by 50 feet each. Access to these drill pads will require re-opening roughly a third of a mile of road for the duration of the project. Impacts of this proposed project include: local quality of life, tourism, air quality, noise pollution, decimated habitat of local flora and fauna (including endangered sage grouse and local deer). The impacts of the exploration might be only the beginning, however. If the company finds a sufficient quantity of gold to mine, that activity could affect important habitats, create long lasting water pollution issues, and forever scar Long Valley. If you live, work, or recreate in the Eastern Sierra and have concerns about the impact of this proposed project, or the prospects of larger scale mining in this scenic and important landscape, we encourage you to submit your comments by May 6, 2021 and ensure your concerns are included in the Inyo National Forest’s analysis. Let Inyo National Forest know you oppose categorical exclusion and request that Kore Mining provide an environmental assessment. Only those who provide comment by May 6, 2021 can continue to participate in the conversation of the proposed project beyond that date. If the project becomes a categorical exclusion there will be no other time to participate. Submit comments electronically at the USFS website: https://cara.ecosystem-
management.org/Public//Co mmentInput?Project=59294 If you cannot submit your comment on the project website, contact Colleen
Garcia, Minerals Program Manager by email at colleen.garcia@usda.gov and/or by phone at (760) 920-0285.

The Use of Mind
by the Rev. Walt Sharer Minister / Practioner-Bishop Church of Religious Science
The Manifestation of Spirit We have come a long way in the past three weeks, but we have really only come to know how Infinite Intelligence working through Divine Wisdom progresses from the germination of idea or thought by means of Spirit, proceeds through the creative medium of Soul and ultimately comes to this week’s final part of the Trinity; Body. Body means the entire manifestation of Spirit on all planes. The Body is distinguished from idea, in that the Body is seen while the idea is not. The physical Universe is the Body of God- the invisible Principle of all life. In this Cause and Effect Universe, the Body is always the effect and never the cause. As all begins with Mind, which receives the life giving energy of Spirit, then is acted upon by the creative energy of Soul, and finally manifested as Body; we can begin to see how the original thought, be it positive or life enhancing or negative or unhealthy, can and will influence the condition of the manifestation. Psychology has shown that psychical (or subjective) disturbances produce physical reactions in the body. The body is the objective manifestation of a subjective mind and consciousness. Simply put, if we desire to be well and happy, our mind must be peaceful and harmonious. My teacher often said that the body is like our report card. Since the body is never cause and always effect, sickness and disease must emanate from a causative realm of fear or lack, loss or limitation. Spirit of Itself is formless and is not subject to time and place. We, on the other hand must have form to function on this plane and we deal with time and space on a regular basis. Time is merely when and space is where. Time is the past, present and future and space is where it all happens. Time and space are our reference points, but since Spirit is Omnipresent (ever present in and through all things) there is no limitation of time or space. Spirit is ever in the Now. When you pray or treat for a healing of mind, body or affairs, you are requesting an immediate answer and that’s what it will be. The answer to all prayers is within the prayer itself. In Religious Science we often hear the phrase, “Thoughts are things.” This may be a new concept to wrap your mind around, but it is important to note that your thoughts are the blue prints for what will appear in form. God said, “Let there be light, and there was light.” Made in the Image and after the Likeness, we too have the power of thought and word. This should cause some trepidation to be cautious with our thoughts and words. What you are speaking about, you are bringing about. Alchemists of old stated that everything is formed from the same substance, which they called ether. “Things which are seen are not made of things which do appear.” As the idea of a plant is contained within the seed, the ethers come together to bring about the form. We are forever herding ethers into the form we are bringing about by our thoughts and words. Wouldn’t it be nicer if we centered on the lovely? That would be Heaven on Earth. God is Love and Loving You Right Now!
