A Full Hand Helps the Fairgrounds 2022 First-time off-road poker run puts ante towards fairground’s improvements By Christina Reed The Hired Pen

Bishop, CA—Play all day in and around Bishop, CA, at and for the Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds (Inyo, Mono and Alpine Counties), on Saturday, August 13, when there are two events for visitors and residents to take part in, for the benefits of a couple of regional favorites. The Fairgrounds stay busy year-round, and Eastern Sierra and California-based, iconic events take place here, including the world-famous Mule Days (Memorial Day Weekend), the California State High School State Rodeo Finals (June), Fishing festivals (year-round); and the traditional Tri-County Fair (coming up, September 1-4), which highlights the local talents of our exhibitors, and draws thousands to the Destruction Derby (a major fundraiser for the Bishop Volunteer Fire Department). And, keeping the fairgrounds going, and a vibrant event center, is a full-time endeavor for all of the residents of the Eastern Sierra.

Ante Up for the Fairgrounds and Hit the Off-Roads of the Tungsten Hills The first event is totally about putting the proceeds towards arena improvements for the Tri-County Fairgrounds. Cap Aubrey, heading up the event, says the inaugural Off-Road Poker Run, which starts on Saturday, August 13, at the Millpond Recreational Area, will benefit the fairgrounds in several ways. While you ante up for the Off-Road Run through the Tungsten Hills, near Bishop, you can picture your winning hand helping pay for an updated sound system at the fairground’s arena. Or you can imagine yourself entering the Tri-County Fair’s Powder Puff Destruction Derby, with bigger prize winnings. And, you can four-wheel through the Tungsten Hills, picking up your next poker card knowing you are helping support the important California State High School Rodeo Finals next year. Aubrey notes the Off-Road Poker Run is about 27 miles long, and should take about three hours to complete. You’ll definitely need a 4 X 4 vehicle, or ATV, or motorcycle, or? But, not a street vehicle. You’ll start your ride at Millpond Recreational Area, you’ll get a poker card to start your hand, then you’ll make three more poker hand stops in the Tungsten Hills, and return to Millpond Recreational Area for your final poker card. Best hand and worst hands will receive cash prizes, as well as a 50 / 50 drawing, a raffle, food and beverages (food vendors) will be available. Pre-registration at the Fairgrounds is $50 (per car) and registration at Millpond on the day of the event is $75. You’ll get one poker hand, and six raffle tickets. 2018 RAM TRADESMAN, Crew Cab,4x, 6 cylinder engine. Has 84,000 miles, very good condition, includes ARE camper shell.
