State mandates visitation, operational changes at NIHD

Visitors must show proof of vaccination or undergo COVID testing By Christina Reed The Hired Pen

A steady rise in COVID-19 cases across the state has led the California Department of Public Health to issue public health orders that will affect visitation and operational policies at Northern Inyo Healthcare District for the foreseeable future. State Public Health Officer Dr. Tomás J. Aragón said these orders are designed to protect vulnerable patients in healthcare settings, ensure that healthcare workers are themselves protected, and encourage vaccinations to end the pandemic. Effective today, Wednesday, Aug. 11, the first order requires the following from all visitors so they can access NIHD’s hospital building: • Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Bishop, CA—Monstrously fun evenings are in store for people who head over to the Tri-County Fairgrounds to see the Hot August Nights Monster Truck Jam, August 20-21, from 7-10 p.m. Some of the country’s top-name competitors and athletes will compete under the lights in the Main Arena, and WGAS Motorsports promises to bring some of the most extreme events to the Eastern Sierra. Join in cheering on Metal Mulisha, Fitz Army Riders, Immortal ATV Riders, and check out the monster trucks on display, including Playing for Keeps, Enforcer, Wicked Strong, T-Maxxx, Trouble Maker, and Double Trouble, plus the Extinguisher monster truck.

Deegan’s kids, daughter Hailie, 20, is a competitor in the NASCAR truck series driving the Number One, Ford F-150; Hudson “Huckson” and Haiden also compete in motocross series across the country. Off-road drivers in the Metal Mulisha crew include Matt Buyten and Todd LeDuc. Metal Mulisha made its debut in 2011, and even Hot Wheels toys have a version of this massive truck. The Metal Mulisha truck was originally a Ford F-150 (yeah, hard to imagine), and the crew outfitted the truck with 66-inch wheels (that’s five-footnine inches tall), and dropped in a 540 cubic inch Merlin engine. Many distinguished titles have been bestowed on the truck, including World Champion in freestyle (2014), and Monsters Jam World (2015). No doubt, this massive truck adds the WOW to freestyle events.

Metal Mulisha’s roots go way back to the late 1990s, when Brian Deegan, age 47, involved since age 17 in motocross, put the truck together to compete. Deegan is well-known for his 13 X-Game medals, and he and Travis Pastrana The Fitz Army Riders are a freestyle battled it out during these X-Games motocross team, and they’ve hooked up to become one of the most recognized with Metal Mulisha in the past, includnames in off-road and freestyle moto- ing performing on America’s Got Talent

shows. Jimmy “Jammer” Fitzpatrick, owner of Fitzland in the Inland Empire, is frequently seen flying 80 feet in the air, and it’s nothing new to this freestyle motocross rider to hit big air, and let go of the handlebars midair, or complete entire back flips on the bikes. Performing these feats that defy gravity, the motocross acts make you catch your breath a lot...exhaling, happily clapping. Part acrobat, part extreme sports developer, part off-road enthusiasts, part X-Game athletes, and totally a must-see to believe performance. Fitzpatrick started off wanting to be a high diver, and his ability to flip motocross bikes around in the air, like toys, really speaks to his being an agile “athlete” deluxe. His Fitz Army Riders include Jeremy Twitch Stenberg, Tyler Bereman, Axell Hodges, Todd Potter, Vicki Golden, Fred Kyrillos, Kenny Bell, Cal Vallone, Destin Cantrell, and Brian Deegan. And, amazingly enough, Fitzpatrick makes red wine from his 54-acre vineyard / race course / wedding venue, while perfecting his 160-foot jumps out back at Terre de Fitz. LOL!
